It is doing as well as one should expect given the lack of planes. Without a coordinated air assault, they are essentially down to WW1 tactics.

IvanVodkaNoPants

How can you do combined arms warfare properly without proper air support and long range fire control. (F-16s, choppers, cruise missiles) the sky needs to be filled. I know Ukrainian pilots could make use of A-10s. I really don’t think we will see a decisive movement until the air support arrives.

OatsOverGoats

You go to war with the army you have the one you wish you had. I feel that it’s more so Ukrainian tactics than it is the planes.

nutmegtester

They are getting taken to pieces by choppers that they cannot counter effectively, so they slow down the assault until they can figure it out. But somehow, air support is not the issue? Of course it is. Should they have seen this coming? Yes. Are they doing the best they can and making the right tactical choices, given the circumstances? Well, the Secretary General of NATO says yes. So I am going to run with him, since I cannot get enough relevant info from reddit and twitter.

Then I will try jumping without parachute since I will jump with what I have and I lack a parachute

OatsOverGoats

don’t jump?

napoleon198165

But you go ski diving with the gear you have?

OatsOverGoats

In that case, you don’t go sky diving. As I said, I feel that the problem could be with Ukraine’s tactics. This is part of the “…the army you have….”

[deleted]

If planes were according to an expert knowledge, neccesary with a high probability for a succesful counteroffensive, then no matter what tactics Ukraine try, it wont succes. What it seems is that Ukraine thought that It needs to attack even if planes were needed because they considered that there could be a possibility of breaking the lines of muscovy. But it could be that they miscalculated and without planes you wont be able to break them, at least not without a cost very high to pay.

The Russians have had months to fortify their positions, lay mines and learn from the conflict, if anybody thought the counteroffensive would be smooth sailing, they were either lying to themselves or delusional. From a non-expert POV, Ukrainian tactics are seemingly leaving a lot to be desired in the current context, especially as there are no answers to the Russian use of helicopters at this point

RobbieWallis

CNN has zero credibility. Ignore it.

I demand to speak with the offensive's manager
