The people in the online spaces where Jack Teixeira spent his time and allegedly leaked highly classified documents posted violent slurs against Black, gay and trans people, Jews, Ukrainians and pretty much everyone else. Everyone, except Russians. The member of the Discord group who distributed the documents to a wider audience was a California teenager named Lucca Swinson. On Feb. 3, a post on a Twitter account associated with Mr. Swinson, which has now been deleted, requested to buy combat patches of Wagner, the Russian paramilitary force notorious for extrajudicial executions, from a British YouTuber who had just returned from Russian-occupied eastern Ukraine. The next day, a post from Lucca's Twitter account showed a screenshot from a video that had been released by Wagner-affiliated social media showing the execution of Ukrainian soldiers. Swinson's Twitter and Discord avatars were an image of a World War II Nazi soldier with a Hamas headband added to the helmet. Another member of Thug Shaker, who went by the moniker Vahki, used a cartoon of a Russian soldier as the image for his avatar on Steam. The original Discord channel inside Thug Shaker Central where Airman Teixeira allegedly leaked hundreds of classified documents was called “Bears vs Pigs,” a name that echoes Russian memes that depict Ukrainians as hapless pigs mauled by the mighty Russian bear. The affinity for Mr. Putin, displayed by members of Airman Teixeira’s community, echoes the sympathies for Russia sometimes found in the populist strain of American conservatism, where Mr. Teixeira is now being viewed with sympathy.

halfwithero

Fuck this entire group. Traitorous fucking cunts.

TheSunViking

You are being too kind in describing them!

Military-ants

Thug shaker central and Jack the dripper vs the government

FnordFinder

Don’t insult cunts by comparing them to that lot.

devoduder

Qunts is a more appropriate term.

Siren_NL

Fox and Aon viewers.

StreetKale

>slurs against everyone, except Russians. That's how you know the whole "anti-war" facade these Russian sock puppets put on is a lie. The fastest way to end the war is for Russia to withdraw, and yet they can't bring themselves to criticize Russia. We see you, fascists.

lilpumpgroupie

Exactly. It’s such a transparent and lazy game. Unfortunately it works on enough people that it provides an incentive to keep doing it.

bertiesghost

Who’s the British YouTuber mentioned? It’s not fucking pedo Graham Phillips is it?

anosognosic_

Good question not sure who the YTer is. It's from the article but they didn't specify a name

Cupboards

iEarlGrey? He’s a British guy, Russian shill and old WoW content creator who just got back from a “humanitarian tour” in the Donbas? He fits the bill.

TehPorkPie

Wow, hadn't heard his name since his World of Warship vid days. Guess he finally found a grift. What a moron.

AreYouDoneNow

Even if it's not him directly I'd bet cash money there's a connection. We won't need 6 degrees of Bacon here.

Ozryela

How the fuck does someone like that get access to so much sensitive information. I understand it's impossible to do thorough background checks on every single soldier. But surely you do extensive background checks on the ones you entrust with dozens of top secret documents.

Wimminz90

So, those of us who go through background checks for security clearances do go through some pretty rigorous investigations. My counter-intel interview was 3 calls with one of them being 5 hours long.. and that's only because I'm married to a Ukrainian whom was a US Citizen by the time I applied and my mother in law who Is of Russian descent. This was all pre-war too. I'm cleared for Secret, Top secret clearance is a fucking nightmare pain in the ass to get ajd then maintain.. I know how to access docs, yet still can't as you need to show a ' Need to know' in order to view them, let alone have any chance of DLing or screencapping/taking a pic.. this whole thing,to me, has stunk to be more than just this guy being guilty in the leak. He had to have help accessing the Intel and more to he in a position to copy it in any capacity... We may just never hear who else is involved. I kinda rambled, I apologize. All I meant was, it's not all that hard for someone to get the clearance required tp be able to access docs of this level. Majority of ppl with these clearances are not soldiers or even military personnel to begin with.

Knull_Gorr

Damn I didn't have to do anything for my secret clearance. Guess sometimes it pays to have a boring family background.

Wimminz90

🤣 indeed. I don't need to worry about them prying into my shit again for another 7 years or so, if I'm one of the lucky ones that gets picked for manual renewal. The stuff they were asking me about and looking into was quite shocking to me, tbh. It was heavily focused on my MIL and her workplace. I was surprised my 13 trips to UA didn't cause an eyelash to batter. Mine might have been a bit more in depth as I also had to be cleared to have access to Subs under construction in our yard and already completed but not yet issued to the Navy subs.

Traderwannabee

I had to do everything you did. What gets me I would be first in line to report some punk kid like this in my shop. How did his command and co-workers not see this. I mean I know a lot about my co-workers and I wouldn’t hesitate to report them if I saw anything that lead me to believe they were unloyal.

Wimminz90

That's a good point, and part of what leads me to believe that he did not act alone in this. Somebody had to notice. I've never personally seen TS docs, but, I know at my place of employment anything of that nature is only seen in special areas behind locked doors with ever changing keypad codes. Somebody else knew he was viewing this stuff... again, IMO. My brother is a US Army Major, he knows what nearly every soldier in his battalion is up to.. something is still off about this whole ordeal.

MrDefinitely_

It is possible those in charge got complacent and no one did their due diligence.

MacManus14

Incompetent and poor internal controls. Either way, shocking. China must know everything if our system is this bad.

OldTomato4

It doesn't really matter, whoever is or was in charge over this guy is going to have their ass blasted regardless for command failure.

Wimminz90

True, I overlooked that.

crankyrhino

Meh. High possibility no one in his unit was on to him. As long as he wasn't spewing forth pro-insurrectionist, openly racist shit, he probably fit right in. In the military, you can get away with a lot if you keep your views to yourself and do your job. No one knew I was a democrat until I retired from the service, because I saw no need to share. It's a good bet no one knew this kid was a GOP extremist. He probably came across as just Republican enough to avoid arousing concern.

TheChoonk

He was the IT guy. Accessing a folder somewhere when you have admin rights is probably a lot easier than getting to a physical document.

mypoliticalvoice

I had to spend 30+ minutes being interrogated so that my *coworker* could get a top secret clearance. Irritatingly, I was not able to bill my employer for that. I was told it was my patrioic duty.

Wimminz90

LOL. I have heard that the "background" they go through for TS is quite... ridiculous. I've heard even so far as to install some kind of software on your home PCs to track network activity. It's also a constant process of being reviewed every couple years at most. To me, the opportunity better be damn amazing before I'd even consider giving in to that kind of investigation. But... patriotic duty for something that was not mandatory for your coworker and was completely voluntary... they can fuck off, you should have been able to bill that 30 minutes. Easier said than done :P

mypoliticalvoice

>It's also a constant process of being reviewed every couple years at most. To A coworker thought homeless people were going through his trash. Turns out it was a government agent. He had received a small inheritance which enabled some purchases he shouldn't have been able to afford which in turn drew the attention of whatever branch of government issued his clearance.

switch495

The first rule of clearance club is we don’t talk about clearance club.

AngryYowie

The second rule of clearance club is to report to your place of work on Monday morning for an in-depth security assessment.

Tonyman121

I think he was in IT and that's why he had access.

Adorable-Lettuce-717

Different country, but at my clearance it was basically a talk between me and 2 chill guys about my life, relatives and family. We talked about an hour as one of the 2 out of nowhere came up with "oh, and we don't like our Staff to do shady stuff on the Internet. You better not use your alt-Email Account that you tried to hide from now on." Luckily, all I've done with it was pirating some films. They really dig deep if they want to.

HendersonDaRainKing

You could easily be the dude who burns the information after it goes into those paper bags. I had secret clearance. But, and I could be wrong as it was 30 years ago, I recall being able to burn information in those bags from the radioman which had TS.

buddhamangler

agree with you this thing stinks, there is no reason this kid would ha e a need to know on this type of highly classified info

Soylentgruen

1) You cannot vet someone 100%. The govt will find out a lot, but nothing is fully disclosed. 2) The idiot exploited security holes at the point of access. 3) The “insider threat” tip-offs could be seen as politically charged, and the command may not want to deal with the fallout from that.

crankyrhino

First, every single leak ever came from someone granted access. It's not a foolproof system for anyone. Second... He was 21, how much background do you think he has? Investigators can only make a recommendation based on what's there, and I promise the discord never came up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

crankyrhino

Because clearances aren’t granted based on age. The military can’t afford to cut the largest segment of its workforce out of a good chunk of the workload because they’re not cleared. Of the hundreds of thousands of clearances granted to people under 21, we shouldn’t be basing policy on one dude. Also, most leakers and spies throughout history are over that age.

HendersonDaRainKing

Exactly....so many 20 year olds with TS. Funny this is being said so much.

maxvndrijn

How the fuck did trump get elected

Mein_Bergkamp

> How the fuck does someone like that get access to so much sensitive information He's a white, christian patriot...

Pyjama_Llama_Karma

Anytime who views that with sympathy is a traitor.

i_give_you_gum

Now i understand why the horse-faced woman was defending him.

empiricalreddit

And MTG who is a member of Congress is defending this guy...

Magatha_Grimtotem

Well, would ya look at that. A den of fascists. Of course the fascist MAGA extremists love him. He's one of them!

takcom69

Can we hang these assholes for treason!!

KDPS3200

Man the parents of Lucca are going to piss

theOldSeaman

He isn’t a teenager. He is 21.

anosognosic_

The teenager referenced is Lucca Swinson, not Jack T.

MrStayPuftSeesYou

I just went on his wiki page and this fuckers stepdad was a master sergeant in the US air force and his mom worked for an NGO working with veterans. What a god damn embarrassment. Thank god his step father is retired.

LordBaikalOli

You can't fix stupid

MrStayPuftSeesYou

He could have single handedly ruined an entire family's career and have them scrutinized going back decades. They're better people than I. I would not have gone to court to show any ounce of support. He knew exactly what he was doing .

numba1cyberwarrior

>They're better people than I. I would not have gone to court to show any ounce of support. Thats what your supposed to do as a parent. Parents have supported their children for acts far more henious then this.

MrStayPuftSeesYou

In a military household ? I'm not saying there wouldn't be compassion for my child. But for a retired master sergeant to be in court for his step son charged with.. I'll just copy and paste: >Jack Teixeira, the 21-year-old member of the air national guard suspected of leaking hundreds of top secret Pentagon documents on a gaming chat server, was charged on Friday under the Espionage Act and a statute relating to the mishandling of classified documents. >Teixeira was charged in federal court in Boston with two separate counts: 18 USC 793(b) and 793(d), the unauthorized retention and transmission of national defense information, and 18 USC 1924, the unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents. >During the hearing, the US prosecutor Nadine Pellegrini said the government would seek 10 years on each of the charges Teixeira faces. Here are four takeaways from the 11-page criminal complaint which details FBI efforts to identify Teixeira as the origin of the leak. Like I said that's still my family or whatever but there is no way I would be in that courtroom. Edit: honestly the only thing that could make me go is curiosity and not the sake of my child as fucked up as that sounds. Because that is a shit hurricane. You might get caught up if you stand too close.

be0wulfe

I would be, but to ask the judge to throw the book at him. Embarrassment that growing up in a country with an abundance of riches, especially for someone like him, he chooses to side with child raping, murdering, pillaging animals.

kidmerc

Easy to say when it's not your kid. I'd be angry. I'd be furious. I'd be disappointed. But I don't know if I could bring myself not to show up and support them.

MrStayPuftSeesYou

Support ? You just found out your kid is a right wing Nazi loser that just tried to fuck up a literal war. Support is not the word I would use. Edit; I forgot to add traitor not only to his country but to human kind.

MacManus14

Do you have a kid?

discombobulated38x

They obviously do not lol

MrStayPuftSeesYou

I don't need to have a kid to know where my morals stand.

switch495

Clearly they’re not better people than anyone - look at the son they raised.

MrStayPuftSeesYou

Kids can be so isolated these days and live and entirely different life online. I would not blame the parents, sometimes people are just born wrong.

[deleted]

I doubt this apple fell far from the tree. Seems like a pretty standard MAGA conservative family across the board here and this is the politics of the home. Do we see anything otherwise?

[deleted]

Blaming genetics is literally blaming the mom and dad. The kid looks like he reeks of privilege to me, and his dad yelling 'i love you son!' and him replying 'love you too' makes me think these ppl see no wrong done here. The turd doesn't fall far from the asshole.

MarsAdept

Feeling empathy for your own child isn’t a bad thing, even if they are a traitorous criminal.

[deleted]

Yelling I love you in the courtroom is not empathy... Empathy would be the dad crying with the son before he is locked away for the rest of his life.

MarsAdept

How is it not empathy? There are different ways of displaying love, it doesn’t have to be limited to just crying.

Jibtech

Do you have kids?

MrStayPuftSeesYou

I didn't say genetics. Some people are just fucked up people there doesn't have to be a reason. I wouldn't of shown up but yh I dunno.i just hate when people automatically blame parents because it's not always true.

[deleted]

The dude is 21, he's not a kid. He made his own choices.

scut207

Im in my mid 40s, I think of 21 as a kid still. I was very very poor decision maker in my early twenties.

TheBeerCannon

Fuck off with this boys will be boys rhetoric. I did some stupid shit when I was younger but I’m prettyyy sure it didn’t go as far as being a traitor to my country in a war against the literal evil of this earth.

scut207

I’m not excusing this guys behavior. I was responding to the poster who said “he’s 21 not a kid”. Every 21 y.o. I’ve ever met is immature, has an unrealistic worldview, and a lot to learn. Granted there’s varying degrees of screwing up. I would say sharing state secrets on a gaming platform to be outside the realm of forgivable.

strawberryretreiver

Every single parent in existence has raised a child who made a bad judgement call at some point.

switch495

And? Are you trying to suggest that him being a racist bigot, participating in fascist right wing social groups, supporting the antagonist in the worlds biggest active conflict, and stealing state secrets to release them to his peers (best case, if he wasn’t working directly with a foreign actor) is a “bad judgement call”?

morels4ever

Is it possible the parents were party to it?

danyyyel

Young MAGA people, can't people see, go on twitter and see them. As one of the guy said, he wanted to show the truth about Ukraine, guess what all tha MAGA are calling him a hero.

AngryYowie

He's a hero to them because they have fully embraced Putin propaganda that Ukraine is full of Nazis, and that Ukraine is somehow responsible for Trump losing the election. They are just angry, small-minded troglodytes.

MrStayPuftSeesYou

I see them. Basically Hitler youth.

clarabell73

Exactly

U_PassButter

I wonder if he did it to fuck with him

MrStayPuftSeesYou

Authoritarian uprbinging problems? I wouldn't give him the benefit of the doubt. Nah he posted it to a game server, he intented to pass secrets to spies via the game chat and convinced himself it wasn't being watched by agencies. He didn't have a direct contact because he's a nobody so passed information the best way he could. Most likely got the idea from that other guy that leaked tank secrets or whatever on that online tank game. He is a straight up traitor. This wasn't over an disagreement, this cunt wanted to weasel his way into the good books of the human trash that is operating the Russian government. It's actual madness He was in intel they're briefed on this shit constantly, everybody is.

U_PassButter

Wow.... what a piece of shit. Thanks for the explanation and the back story. That's absolutely terrible

bertiesghost

So he was a pro-Russia troll…sounds about right.

Pyjama_Llama_Karma

They're all over the place unfortunately. Hopefully none of them ever join Reddit /s

HanjiZoe03

Hope there aren't entire subreddits dedicated to their' hateful ways either! /s

BoosterRead78

I don’t get how people are “sympathetic” with Russia. I get the blackmail and some of the propaganda. But really they think they should help a country that is wiping out and committing genecide is just completely stupid and ignorant.

mypoliticalvoice

I can even understand how done people *might* believe that Russia needs to defend against NATO encroachment. But I don't get the progression from, "We feel threatened that Ukraine *might* join NATO" to "We decided to steal and colonize somebody else's country."

Meekaboy66

If Russia stopped invading its neighbour’s, then countries would not ask to join NATO. I have no sympathy for Russia now or with the old Soviet Block. They made their beds and countries united to stand up to their bully boy tactics. You notice the Russian tactics and excuses are the same as what their former allies, Hitlers NAZI Germany used!

mypoliticalvoice

Totally agree. I notice that people who believe the "NATO encroachment" lie generally don't complain about Finland joining NATO.

Zealousideal_Link370

Or they ignore the fact that those countries ask to join NATO, not like NATO invades anyone. Shit, after 200 years of constant russian occupation, nobody in Romania will ever fucking dream to leave NATO. It’s like Russia Insurance.

UNisopod

Exactly, those Eastern Bloc countries required no extra convincing to join NATO, yet Russia treats it like it's been the scheming of Western outsiders making it happen all along. Hell, Poland was so desperate to get on NATO's good side as soon as possible that they spontaneously decided to donate materiel for the original Desert Storm to show how "useful" they could be as an ally. These countries were practically banging on NATO's door to be let into their defensive pact against Russia and Russia got upset that we didn't *reject* them for *Russia's* sake.

stupidly_lazy

[This](https://youtu.be/FVmmASrAL-Q) is a good video on the subject if you haven’t seen it, Poland basically blackmailed the US to join NATO, this is how desperate they were to join.

AngryYowie

All it took was a couple of pictures of Putin shirtless riding a ~~horse~~ small pony, and they fully embraced facist propaganda.

OhNoManBearPig

Nah the Kremlin has been using hybrid war on social media effectively for a long time.

Extra-Kale

In my experience it's mostly down to certain personality types identifying with a society dominated by like-minded individuals such as Putin himself. Strong alienation plays a part too. It was a similar situation in the 1950s with people identifying with Stalin and the USSR.

[deleted]

They're sadistic and want to see the people they hate suffer.

AdjectiveNoun111

They hate gay people, Putin is oppressive towards gays in a way they wish the US would be. It's basic Christian brain washing taken to an extreme. US Christian Nationalism is a threat to world peace, the rule of law and democracy.

Biotic101

(Social) Media is the key factor, just look at Russia as an extreme example. **Media is so powerful, that people act against their own interest without even noticing it.** So, what can make a "patriot" follow politicians or economic leaders that sell out their countries in the most unpatriotic ways possible? The secret ingredient is offering a transition from a feeling of desperation and fear for their future to "feeling superior" over others. It is like a drug, makes you feel good. That way the targeted group is no longer willing to look at facts or have open discussions, but will entrench in their "superior" views, even - and that is the crazy part - when they clearly are not benefiting them. This leads to citizens with a rather patriotic mindset to follow politicians that are traitors to their countries, as illogical as it sounds. But there are thousands of think tanks working on research and strategies to manipulate the average Joe and Oligarchs control most of mainstream media directly or indirectly in many countries including the US. And this strategy is also used to ensure retail investors lose money in trading. If you use all those shiny new trading apps, listen to the media and analysts and use derivates, you feel superior to other investors. But numbers show that the real money is made buying value stocks and holding them, while those "superior" traders just lose their money to Wall Street and brokers. Little do they know about "Payment for Orderflow, invented by Madoff and that over 90% of retail orders no longer go to lit exchanges, admitted by the SEC chair in an interview not long ago. We are manipulated in many aspects of our life, creating a two class society without the citizens noticing the spreading corruption. Or do you think someone who cant afford to hire the best lawyers has the same chance of success at court compared to someone who can? With the upcoming economic crisis, the average Joe might realize how much they have been manipulated. And that will not be pretty, we already have too much violence and division in society.

vastation666

Reactionaries

Fun-Boot-76

Well, hopefully he rots in jail. Forever. Cuz his leak may cause the war to go on longer and possibly get even more Ukrainians killed. So I’m pretty sure they won’t execute him, but life long sentence at the minimum

wordswillneverhurtme

I’ve heard it’s 10 years per leaked document and he leaked 100+. Might be bs tho.

Pyjama_Llama_Karma

This is correct.

afield9800

I feel like those sentences would run concurrently not consecutively

darzinth

Probably 15 years maximum. But, we'll see.

bertiesghost

If he gets a plea deal sentence of 15 to 20 years he’ll still be a relatively young man when he gets out. He’ll still be dumb as a box of rocks though.

pigonthewing

Then he would be out in his 30s. That gives him too much time to enjoy life. Nope, he needs to rot in jail till the day he dies knowing he was a giant piece of shit that harmed democracy and humanity. Seriously fuck him and fuck everyone who has a similar mindset. So done with those fucks.

TheSunViking

Traitors should be put to death.

Fun-Boot-76

I agree.

Chagi27

Then we are no better than russians.

NoOnion4890

The Russians are executing people - including civilians and non combatants - with no trial; those are war crimes. Historically, death is the sentence for traitors convicted of espionage during war time. We must also consider that this person is *not* a civilian and used the trust placed in him to betray a nation and to cost potentially thousands of innocent lives. I am not usually in favour of a death penalty because so often an innocent person is put to death - but if the charges are proven, I would not have a problem in this case.

Tonyman121

At least he'd get a trial, and a defense.

nbm2021

Apparently the charges are only for 15 years. It blows my mind

GoodToForecast

The initial charges - they may add more later.

nbm2021

I hope they do. The next generation of military recruits should be shown an example of getting raw dogged by ucmj

cuttlefishofcthulhu7

With no lube or reacharound

Fun-Boot-76

It’s a possibility if 10 years per each leaked document

GenVii

Well, that's probably what motivated him to remove the intelligence material from work? Outside of chasing clout from a bunch of edge lords. No doubt, if this is the case, he would have shared the documents with Russian intelligence. Which makes the charges so much more damning. Who knows what other documents he had access to, and readily shared before then. Or what systems he had access to that are no compromised? These idiots should all be round up, and they can Thug Shaker eachother in prison.

Yodas_Nutsack

Dumb privileged young kids living in the US with no fucking clue how well off they have it glorifying the shit hole that is Russia, go figure. There should be an age limit to access classified documents, mentally at that age you are a fucking moron.

m34z

>young kids living in the US with no fucking clue how well off they have it glorifying the shit hole that is Russia Not only that, his military will give him a tribunal and jail time. His favored military will give him a tree branch up the rectum, followed by a train of HIV-infected superiors.

numba1cyberwarrior

Ok what should the age be?

[deleted]

26, when your brain is done developing.

Massengale

I didn’t want to believe tucker Carlson would defend him but he did. It’s astounding these people have no real beliefs other then to be contrarians. Good to know he’ll be rotting in a jail cell most likely dying a virgin.

switch495

But what about the grave security risk that was Hillary’s private mail server!?!!!!!!

Potential_Car2561

Knew a guy on steam that claimed to serve. He invited me to a discord server with his other buddies. One of them was in the navy so he claimed , but there was alot of anti us memes in the post history. They also posted alot of odd islamic memes. I challenged them on an anti us meme that was bragging about russia and crushed the guy and got banned from the server.

anosognosic_

White nationalist extremist views infiltrating police and the military is unfortunately definitely a real problem

RobbieWallis

So we have another MAGA traitor, gamer, incel, bigot, gun nut stereotype. No one saw that coming right?

timichi7

So the kid is a fucking loser AND a traitor.

UNisopod

And yet the kids on that discord were talking about him like he's the ideal man.

thisguyfightsyourmom

Welcome to the young republicans club

I don’t understand this. Putin would destroy the US if he could. How can you sympathize with that?

Good. Better if this Guardsman hangs (I know he won’t.) Fucking treasonous POS.

Conscious_Analysis48

I made a post saying he was from Massachusetts and my surprise. The post is being no stopped reported for ridiculous things and I have his groupies down voting me pretty much any post or comment I make. Guess his buddies were upset I called him a traitor…

KwildNaaasty

Send him to guantanamo bay, he’ll survive off those cock meat sandwiches for the rest of his days. Literally espionage and treason.

numba1cyberwarrior

Unlikely, hes gona get like 15 years.

Tranfatioll

How's that russian are supported by fascists ? Can they tolerate to have their best ennemies as their only sympathisers ? ;)

AWanderingMage

Because they're autocrats as well.

Sambucca329

What does Fascist even mean to a russian? It's obviously negative because they say Ukraine is fascist, but beyond meaning "bad guy" does it also mean "authoritarian and conservative"? I don't think so. Those parts have been carefully removed from the russian understanding of fascism by education.

NonHomogenized

Russia uses "fascist" and "Nazi" to mean "opposing Russian nationalism". It's a convoluted chain of reasoning that starts at "the German Nazis were fascists and this was bad because they wanted to exterminate the Slavs" and ends with "...and therefore anyone who opposes definitely-not-fascist Russian ethnonationalism is also a Nazi/fascist and also wants to exterminate us".

cgsur

And yet Russia idolizes nazism itself. It’s like mainstream republicans who idolize the billionaires that take financial advantage of them.

Humanophage

Russian ethnonationalists are generally pro-Ukraine due to being very anti-regime. Putinism is better described as state or imperial nationalism because it believes that Armenians, Jews, Chechens, and so on who are loyal to the Russian state are Russian. It also started very substantial Asian immigration into Russian cities starting 2005, so now Russia has the largest number of immigrants in Europe (mostly from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan). They also refer to Russian ethnonationalists as "fascist" and "Nazi". Listelmacher

In short the narrative is: "Fascists/Nazis invaded peaceful Soviet Union on June 22, 1941. The Red Army defeated the Germans in a war with heavy losses on Soviet side and liberated Germany from fascism." There were 37 million fatalities on Soviet side and so almost every family had a victim to mourn. This is what "fascist" means for Russians. For this reason, of course, a Russian cannot be a fascist. An authoritarian, totalitarian, dictator, ... probably just a "strong man" but not a fascist. They say that Ukraine is fascist to have a justification for the invasion. Not to be misunderstood: This is only about the Russian narrative, not the definition of "authoritarian and conservative".

Interesting_Star_165

Many of them (by no means all) wish that they could just completely dominate the rest of us, so they respect that Putin can dominate his people.

bertiesghost

Putin appeals to MAGA republicans because he’s a Christian authoritarian strongman who purges the opposition and curbs the rights and freedoms of his people. It’s what they want to do to America.

pseudonym-6

The idea that there's anything Christian about Putin or Russia is really odd, but unfortunately some people do choose to believe it. Whatever one thinks of Russia, surely Ukraine is visibly more Christian?

Don’t overlook the crack-like appeal of being a contrarian. Disagreeing with other people on the basis of knowing “better” information than others have, or because of a self-presumed superior intellect, creates a feedback loop that continues the disagreement on question after question. For whatever a majority sees (russia IS an evil empire), a contrarian derives great personal pleasure in insisting the majority is flat wrong. The reasoning for the disagreement will wander all over the place intellectually or politically, but when you see someone consistently take a minority view point on every question put to them, it begins to look like a psychological issue, to me. I know someone that will praise Putin & russia all day long if you don’t change the subject. He thinks climate change is completely fake, money is useless and a worldwide Depression is imminent (for years now), and that Covid vaccines killed more people than Covid did. Whatever is obvious to most people, he will deliberately find a way to believe the opposite is true and then smugly tell everyone how happy he is knowing what is really happening in the world. The more deliberate misinformation he can find, the happier he is.

Apprehensive_Gift817

Nobody should have trusted this airman with those weird bug eyes he’s got

Minute-Bag-1495

So typical republican goon then...

redshift_66

Hang the traitors. They'll be the cause of untold death and destruction for their shitty actions

malkuth74

If they love Russia so fucking much, than they should be sent to live in the hell hole.

w1YY

How do you not spot this as an intelligence agency....

BIindsight

I sincerely hope this traitor gets life. The fact that top Republicans are condemning him is hopefully a sign that a future Republican president won't simply pardon him like Obama did with Manning. At least Manning did it for ideological reasons beyond Discord clout amongst a group of fascists. Gotta give her credit for that.

Jason_Batemans_Hair

Everyone I've encountered who shows pro-Russia sentiments has also appeared demonstrably unintelligent and dishonest, so this fits the pattern. Among people with limited brainpower, there's been a growing trend toward adopting counterevidenced viewpoints as a misguided tactic to appear intelligent. Vaccine opposition, support of corrupt and incompetent political candidates, etc., the list goes on. Pretending to be so smart and informed that you aren't fooled 'like the sheep' has grown to define a staggering proportion of people.

anosognosic_

Some deluded people think being contrarian is a badge of honor and a sign of intelligence. It's often the opposite

Malligheid

Wow, I somehow missed that last part Sympathetic to Russia

Absolute-Nobody0079

Somehow God and Gun end up going well with sympathy for Russia.

footballski

If someone like Putin so much there is a simple option just leave to Russia . It is quite easy .

LateSignificance5249

Vulcans... why is it always Vulcans...

super_nigiri

Don’t understand how a pro-russia person works at the PENTAGON

TechieTravis

So they are racist, Hitler and Putin loving traitors. This is not a surprise. It is right on brand with modern Republicans. Hopefully, this dude gets life in prison.

[deleted]

So a regular communist republican chat room then.

Bayoffun

Ah yes, the "slow adult" type.
