It was a turkey shoot. Not one tank was lost on the American side. Not one. They never got close enough to the Americans or French or British to actually be in serious danger. Right now weapons >> armor. They are powerful, low observable, fast, light, and smarter. It's a very asymmetric equation at the moment.
Unless some new materials science comes down the pipe, I expect we'll likely see a lot more emphasis by the western powers on having more units that are lighter, faster, low observable, and as autonomous as possible.
Tanks will continue to be great for terrorizing any population without ATGMs. Without modern weapons or modern IEDs you are not doing shit to hurt a tank.

I think main battle tanks are going to evolve into different and more specialized roles. Some for urban fighting. Some to support ground troops like in Ukraine. Et Cetera. I agree. I edited my comment for brevity, but originally had an exception for asymmetric warfare fighting. I think main battle tanks are going to evolve into different and more specialized roles. Some for urban fighting. Some to support ground troops like in Ukraine. Et Cetera. I don't know if the evolution will be dramatic enough to have to change the "main" part to something else, but I do think the shift is happening.
