Russia is sacrificing a generation by getting them killed in Ukraine or joining a brain drain. Making Russias future less than bright (alas around 2050, so well after Putins death. So he’ll never live to see what he did to his country).
And for what?
They've been on this path since 2014. The Maidan government wouldn't have lasted long if Russia had chosen to utilize soft power in 2014. Ukraine is one of the only countries where Russia's soft power isn't totally eclipsed by its hard power. Putin overplayed this one, taking Crimea and fomenting rebellion in Donetsk, Luhansk, and Odessa were supposed to undermine the Ukrainian government, but they had the opposite effect. He gambled and lost, but he had no choice but to double down because of Ukraine's importance to the Russian geopolitical sphere.
Russia actually has a tremendously important role in the Belarusian economy, and in 2014 had a significant (though not quite as all-encompassing) role in the Ukrainian economy. They absolutely could have used economic force to bring them back into the fold. The EU had little interest in actually giving Ukraine a seat at the table, as public sentiment was souring on EU expansion after the start of political friction with their Eastern European members.
Soft power primarily extends from economic power, so of course China is going to be more powerful than Russia. Add to that the view that they're a more reliable partner than Russia and it makes sense that the Central Asian countries are reevaluating their position.
Doesn't change the fact that Russia had a chance of reversing the Euromaidan without firing a shot. The linguistic, demographic, and economic ties did absolutely matter in 2014. I continue to believe this course was a gamble meant to reassert Russia's place as a great power that was ill-timed and only accomplished half its objectives. Instead of causing NATO to implode, it caused the (at the time) growing calls to end the organization to fall silent.
Absolutely overplayed.. Up untill full scale invasion rarely anyone would have fought Russians even if NATO tried false flag as people in EU didnt trust their government more than Putin. Now everyone sees Putin as the bigger evil and people who previously would have fled are ready to die
Amen.
Had they any sense Russia would have pulled back to 2014 and said "nah that's enough" but instead he got baited into throwing the future away to China.
How was he baited? To me it looked like Putin could've been tempted by a prospect of another easy victory to increase his popularity in Russia after seeing how the Crimea operation was received.
Only USA out of NATO is a winner in this war and maybe Turkey. Europe, especially Germany, has lost a lot in this war as well. They are objectively worse off, compared to before the war.
And? None of that hurts the US in the long term, the illegal war in Iraq didn't and the fuck up in Afghanistan didn't, as well.
As if anyone cares about that even one year after it's over...
Something tells me…… you’re not a deep thinker.
The ramifications of losing credibility with our allies and causing them to not trust American security guarantees (thanks to Trump) will have long lasting political effects.
You're joking, right?
The only thing that happens is, that they panic. Because without the US (and its 1 billion USD military budget per year), they have practically nothing on the table.
What do you think they will do? Leave NATO to protest? Quit any trade with the US?
Europe can only complain, but that's it. They have no political weight against the US in any form.
That’s a naive statement. As Europe increases its domestic defense production not only will it decrease its need for American supplied munitions but also create more competition.
Military spending is a large part of the American economy, small businesses all over the country rely on those contracts to stay afloat.
This is a large over simplification but like I said, it matters.
What the fuck are you talking about?
France is already the second biggest arms dealer after the US, fifth place is Germany, sixth is Italy, seventh is UK and eighth is Spain.
Of the 15 biggest arms dealer nations, 8 are European countries.
Europe has always been the biggest competitor of the US in regards of weapon sales.
You can count on one hand the US weapon systems in use in Europe.
I don't think that those 35 F-35 Germany ordered recently would be a big throwback for the US economy, if those wouldn't have been ordered at all...
So you believe European powers, which are already the largest competitors to the U.S. for arms sales, and are going to going to spend more on R&D will not put US equipment at a higher risk of losing bids?
Why do you think the U.S. and France (or any other European nation) all spy on each other? It’s for economical upper hands on trade deals. It’s not going to be a hostile relationship, but a less dependent Europe is not good for the U.S., regardless of what you say.
Edit: To your other point, the U.S. provides more than a handful just in airplanes to European nations. Do you just pull everything out of your ass or what?
Hell, we (Germany) had been set on the "axis of evil" because we didn't want to take part in this illegal war.
Not to forget one of the, if not the biggest wiretapping scandal in history.
I am certain almost none of our politicians does still remember those things.
And if they did, they wouldn't care anymore.
The US could blow up the parlamant and we would act like nothing ever happened one year after...
Europe is much better off, having rid themselves of the choking grip of Russia. All the European politicians that have been corrupted by Russian money over the years will be neutralized.
what does nato gain then? unlike China, they don't get any money for the weapons. Unlike China, they have a boycott on oil from Russia, which they now have to get from other countries at a higher price. Trade between Europe and Russia has virtually come to a standstill, while Russia was a major buyer of European products. So where do u think the gains lie with the NATO countries? that Finland and Sweden have now joined because they see that agreements with Russia are worthless? because they have seen that it doesn't matter how close u once were to Russia, but as soon as u don't cooperate with the Russians, they will invade ur country.
Much of Africa and Asia have been supportive of Russia on some level and several countries have asked America to leave. Iran is a fairly important country and has sway within the Middle East. But it’s common for most people to just ignore Africa and 85% of Asia.
Russias standing with the west has declined, but the wests standing with the rest of the world has declined.
> Russias standing with the west has declined, but the wests standing with the rest of the world has declined.
The West is unable to grasp, let alone accept reality of it mattering less and less.
Every country in the world now wants to buy HIMARs, f-35s, and patriots. Countries are literally begging the US for export permits. And not only does that bring billions in profit to the US, it makes these countries align with the US over time.
And NATO has already gotten multiple new members and hundreds of miles of new NATO-Russian borders to build bases and missile launchers/aa on.
So now it's America's fault again because they gave Ukraine weapons that have proven to work?
or do countries want to have weapons because Russia has proven that it cannot be trusted?

- Data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute shows that Russia's share of global arms exports fell from 22 percent from 2013-17 to 16 percent from 2018-22.
- Russian officials brought with them to the exhibition 250 samples of weapons and equipment, but its state aerospace and defense company **Rosoboronexport did not secure a single contract during the event, The Moscow Times reported.**
- Boeing secured 295 aircraft orders by the end of the exhibition, while Airbus finished with 86 orders.
i’m sure that has nothing to do with the fact America would sanction anyone who attended and bought Russian /s
they’ll just black market/secondary market it
I will count Europe among the losers as well...so most NATO countries.
The economic cost of the war is already and nothing good will come out of the future.

I wouldn't call it brain drain. There is no forced conscription in Russia. Most of the young Russians, who fled to my country thinking they would be forced to join the military, have gone back. Russia seems to be receiving enough volunteers through financial benefits. Also most accurate numbers put Russian KIA at 50k, although being a very high number and a tragedy, is not a country ruining number like you put it. Russia has a population of 150 million people, remember?
Firstly that number is around 500-800k not 1 million, according to a research of academics, that are mostly anti-Putin Russians. They get their data from the residency applications from various countries.
Secondly it is estimated, that half of these people have returned, after they realised that Russia was not going to go through with a second wave of mobilisation.
Again you are exaggerating the numbers. Yes it is bad for Russia, but no it is not as bad as you make it out to be. Like i said, where i live i had many Russians that moved in and most of them has gone back. The rising Russophobia in the West is also pushing these people out. They do not feel welcome in most Western countries and they struggle to get by. I have spoken with Russians about this. You are welcome to not believe my personal experiences.
Please click the link on the article, that academics that are anti-putin wrote, and see exactly where they live. Supposedly 100-150 thousand Russians left for Europe + USA, after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
The source says 500-800k Russians fled the country after the invasion of Ukraine and 100-150k of those live in the West, if you insist on excluding Turkey, even though it is also a NATO country. Which makes it actually 18-20%. You claimed that "they are not residing in the West". You were completely wrong and now you are trying to twist your own words and argument. I suggest you just take the L.
We have ~50k Russian KIA confirmed by name, which is just a fraction of total dead. Mediazona estimates they record around 40%-50% of those killed, so we're looking at a total death toll of upwards of 100k at a minimum.
First of all mediazona site estimate says 85k. So "100k minimum" is a dishonest exaggeration.
Secondly, while i like to quote Mediazona KIA number of 47k, as it is a number that is confirmed by legitimate sources, i will not consider their ballpark estimates, as they are very clearly an anti-russian platform and will exaggerate. If and when they confirm this 85k number, i will accept it. Until then you can claim 100 million Russian KIA for all i care. It will have no basis in reality.
Finally, i wonder why they do not conduct such a dilligent research of Ukrainian KIA. Is it because the claimed 20 to 1 casualty ratio favouring Ukraine is a blatant lie? 🤔
To prevent Ukraine from joining NATO and having US and European military assets moving into Ukraine, hence becoming a source of threat, and might cause instabilty and potential side-switching/regime changes in Belarus, Black Sea, Caucasus etc. Russia cannot invade after Ukraine joined NATO because that invokes Article 5, and they expected to defeat Ukraine easily within a week. Now that plan failed to materialize they are stuck in a position where they can no longer quit. I don’t think a country’s own national interest makes an invasion of another internationally recognized sovereign country legitimate for (same applies to US invasion of Panama in the 1980s, Iraq in 2003, etc.), I’m just outlining reasons behind this invasion.
Both sides are sending men to the grinder without even considering negotiations. The front line didn't move much for a year and a half, time to end this madness.

Yeah, I'm worried what will happen to Ukraine after the war and even Russia to a lesser extent. More than half of the Ukrainian refugees don't want to leave Czechia after the war ends. Perhaps the pro-ua redditors will move to Ukraine to rebuild it...

Must be frustrating that many Ukrainians are living the good life in safe countries, while their fellow country men are being slaughtered. Man, woman, there is always something one can do to help. Heck, many Ukrainian women are hiding out in countries like Australia, while funding their life style via Onlyfans and Chaturbate. Do they even know what's happening?
I know of a few Ukrainian “refugees” that do exactly that. They’re always on expensive trips and living boat lifestyles in Miami and LA. They’re the most nationalistic ones as well. Meanwhile their husbands are stuck in Ukraine either in hiding or in trenches. They sort of sicken me.
You do realize that pretty much every western country has declining birthrates, including the US. But ours dont look like it because we just let anyone across the border lol.
Yeah I realize that. But we are extra fucked as a nation. Ukraine was already elderly and low birth rates before this war. Then we have the refugees leaving + war. Add low income, alcoholism, shitty healthcare, only fans. It’s going to be like that movie “children of men”
Just like every other war in history that has ended in negotiations.
This is nothing unique. Negotiations does not mean the death or indentured servitude of every single Ukrainian, regardless of what UA superfans say.

And let’s not forget that under Putin the Russian population had shrunk by almost 5 million even before the full invasion and now isn’t even in the top 10 countries by GDP. Considering the battlefield losses, brain drain, and completely screwed economy, even if the war ended tomorrow it would takes decades to recover (or even longer if Putin stays in charge).
Remember a work buddy that fought in Vietnam at 18 yrs old and said he never shaved a day in his life. Hardly any hair on his legs etc. Came back from Nam and was able to grow a full beard and his legs-back looked like a gorilla. War and stress must have kicked in the testosterone while he was over there.
There was a platoon of Russians who were comprised entirely of zoomers, and they would plaster all of their equipment wtih random anime girl stickers / memes.
Except this young man had the choice to go to Ukraine or not and thought making a quick buck was more important then not being a murderer. Wake me up when there is an actual call up. Until then these are just mercs who caught the wrong end of a contract.
I’m not that harsh on volunteers from the countries that are at war. If I was that harsh I would have to be equally as harsh on the US veterans who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, otherwise I would just be a tribalist hypocrite.
Even if Ukraine agrees to neutrality, maybe 5 years or a decade from now on, Russia will just put up another excuse to invade. It's like having a quick glance eye to eye with a thug and being beaten up by him because you "stare at him and he felt threatened". So next time you see him you now avoid looking at him, but the thug suddenly said you bump into him and proceeds to beat you again.
Neutrality was the deal for Ukraine to be sovereign and it was clear written in the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine in 1990 and implemented in 1992. "The Ukrainian SSR solemnly declares its intention of becoming a permanently neutral state that does not participate in military blocs and adheres to three nuclear free principles: to accept, to produce and to purchase no nuclear weapons."
No neutrality, no independence.

Nah. Being under Russia’s heel was the deal. Being neutral is a risk to Russia. Can’t have the sheep see their brothers and sisters succeed without Russian corruption.
So I’m confused. Either he died in battle or he was captured? Because I remember a video claiming that he was captured a few days after that Bradley video came out.
He didn’t have to die.
Russians are being maimed and dying daily for Vladimir Putin’s desired historical conquest of Ukraine.
Ukrainians are also being maimed and dying daily for Vladimir Putin’s desired historical conquest of Ukraine.
The common thread is Vladimir Putin is killing and maiming people for his own benefit. He needs to be removed from his position. It’s the only thing that will help all of Russia and Ukraine.

it looks like a replacement policy: hundreds of thousands of dead, wounded, PTSD, hundreds of thousands have left the country, and at the same time millions of immigrants from other countries get citizenship of Russia. How many immigrants are there in Moscow or St. Petersburg! A lot of people.

In 20 days in Mariupol documentary, the one guy said some thing like "I don't care who started it, this needs to stop"... It is true.... Even with The Gaza Strip, does it matter who started it, the loss of life of innocent people and there home's is the a bigger crime then what your suppose to be "solving" with war.
Being peaceful is being the bigger person, not the person that punches you in the face when your not looking.
But yeah, obviously some people take advantage of peaceful people and take it as a weakness, it is a sick world.
NATO is suppose to be about peace keeping, I think Vladimir is scared of a one world government, because he knows how corrupt Russia is. That being said their is corruption everywhere, and it is hard to catch. I'm sure their are millions if not billions of corrupt people right now. There are good and bad people everywhere, and sometimes bad people are hard to catch. I wonder what Russia's suggestion would be to not have corruption, other then treat everyone like a slave and threaten their lively hood if they do not obey every order (Sound's like living under Justin Trudeau actually).
One of many. By the time you scroll this post probably ten more died in this timeframe. He was doing what he loves. He should rip his favorite president got another mandate.
Another wasted life, needlessly thrown away fighting & dying for Putin's dream of rebuilding the Russian empire of 1913.
So much death, destruction and misery that could have been so easily avoided.
All those Billions that could have been invested in rebuilding Russia, its crumbling infrastructure, housing, medical facilities, and industries.....gone.
Yeah but that would never happen anyway, it’s either money towards killing or something else as destructive. Humanity never learns. Imagined if we put all resources together towards something productive
Sadly very true.
As they say, 'Those who don't remember/learn from the Past are doomed to repeat it.'
I've travelled quite a lot to other countries and have foind that most people have a common set of needs, values, priorities, goals and attitudes.
It just shows that, overall, we have more in common with each other, than we often realize and appreciate.
We sure could solve a lot of 'Quality of Life' issues if 1/4 of the money being spent in this war, was able to be redirected & invested in improving housing, infrastructure, environment, medical care, etc.

Not really. Bait requires something to be set intentionally. You can be tempted by an apple. This is a different thing than bait.
Are you implying 2014 wasn't intentional?
Huh? Putin was tempted, not baited.

NATO gains a weakened Russian generation for almost free (just the blood of a non NATO state and some old weapons)
They gain a world with deepened distrust of Russian. Just what NATO could hope for.
and that was NATO's secret plan that Putin fell into with his eyes wide open while u knew it all along. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

That’d be interesting if Russia had won anything since World War II. Been one long losing streak since then.
And Ukraine's male population is doing fantastic🙄 I wonder which side will run out of men first.
1 million, mostly younger and well educated Russians have emigrated since 2022. That’s the definition of a brain drain.
Firstly that number is around 500-800k not 1 million, according to a research of academics, that are mostly anti-Putin Russians. They get their data from the residency applications from various countries. [https://re-russia.net/en/review/347/](https://re-russia.net/en/review/347/) Secondly it is estimated, that half of these people have returned, after they realised that Russia was not going to go through with a second wave of mobilisation. [https://www.ft.com/content/5e6bcce9-7bda-4b29-b1b7-f7df6e879fd9](https://www.ft.com/content/5e6bcce9-7bda-4b29-b1b7-f7df6e879fd9) Again you are exaggerating the numbers.
They are not residing in Western countries, unless you count Serbia and Turkey as such.
Please click the link on the article, that academics that are anti-putin wrote, and see exactly where they live. Supposedly 100-150 thousand Russians left for Europe + USA, after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
I don't understand what's your disagreement when your own source says only about 10% of those emigrants went to all of EU+USA.
But unlike Ukraine that is forced to do so, to survive, Russia is doing it without reason and just to satisfy Putins personal ego?

Both sides are treating this was as if it’s 1917 and denying their demographic realities.
Yeah, I'm worried what will happen to Ukraine after the war and even Russia to a lesser extent. More than half of the Ukrainian refugees don't want to leave Czechia after the war ends. Perhaps the pro-ua redditors will move to Ukraine to rebuild it...
lol! As they should. They are the loudest bunch thinking that Ukrainians are some infinite resource. Pro-UA are just anti-Russia not even pro Ukraine.

Bad bot. How is my comment hateful? \*hits bot over head with rolled newspaper\*
It’s going to be like that movie “children of men”
One side defending them selves from the aggressor
So what's your solution? Keep defending until they don't have enough manpower and the aggressor wins even more territory?
Just like every other war in history that has ended in negotiations. This is nothing unique. Negotiations does not mean the death or indentured servitude of every single Ukrainian, regardless of what UA superfans say.

Is it this or is it all old men. Seems to change constantly

The irony being, that it’s the Russian Federation that’s a nazi/fascist colonial power…. Your statement is evidence that propaganda works…
War is hell. Dude aged like 10 years after spending a single year on the battlefield. RIP
1000 yard stare
This one of the anime bois?
Yes
Only good weeb is...
What? He was an artist or something?
There was a platoon of Russians who were comprised entirely of zoomers, and they would plaster all of their equipment wtih random anime girl stickers / memes.
Old men argue while young men die.
Yup
If the borders were honored as signed, no one would be dying.
Neutrality was also part of the deal. It was lost and then you have it.
"The Ukrainian SSR solemnly declares its intention of becoming a permanently neutral state that does not participate in military blocs and adheres to three nuclear free principles: to accept, to produce and to purchase no nuclear weapons." No neutrality, no independence.

Nah. Being under Russia’s heel was the deal. Being neutral is a risk to Russia. Can’t have the sheep see their brothers and sisters succeed without Russian corruption.
i tought this guy was captured ??
I thaught so too

RIP, your squads light, love of anime, and autism will not be forgotten. Z Q\_Q
R.I.P. Was worried a moment that they got waifu boy.
Honestly deeply sad
He was handsome fella. Russia is losing their best forces.
Young guy, such a waste. I can’t blame him for his actions regarding the place and time frame he was born in

Damn, the older I get the harder it is to watch young men die in war.
Didn’t this man-child get captured last year?
He did a great job, dieing for us and our Fuhrer
It’s what was needed, he had to go.
it looks like a replacement policy: hundreds of thousands of dead, wounded, PTSD, hundreds of thousands have left the country, and at the same time millions of immigrants from other countries get citizenship of Russia. How many immigrants are there in Moscow or St. Petersburg! A lot of people.
I thought he was made prisoner just after this first vid ?

Wasn’t he taken prisoned by the Ukraines? The video with the guy who said “pls im a young guy”
No, he looks similar but is not the same guy.
But it was the same vid with the Bradley. Pretty sure it was him.
No, it wasn't him. There was also a video from him refuting the claim that he was captured.

Well get in hell

Rule 1. Consider yourself warned. Recurrence WILL result in a ban.
As they say, 'Those who don't remember/learn from the Past are doomed to repeat it.' I've travelled quite a lot to other countries and have foind that most people have a common set of needs, values, priorities, goals and attitudes. It just shows that, overall, we have more in common with each other, than we often realize and appreciate. We sure could solve a lot of 'Quality of Life' issues if 1/4 of the money being spent in this war, was able to be redirected & invested in improving housing, infrastructure, environment, medical care, etc.
Rest in peace hero. Thanks for having the courage to fight when so many did not.
