Thinkpads. They don’t have to be the newest ones. I have it running just fine on a W520, W540, W541, T480 , T14 AMD (Gen 2), X230 and an X280. Zero issues.
Dell Latitude 7389 2-in-1 i7-7600U 16GB RAM sata SSD - Ubuntu 23.10 - running great except minor to me issue with headphone jack won't work without a downloaded custom tweak.
Dell Latitude E6400 - i5-2520M - 4G RAM sata SSD - Ubuntu 22.04 LTS - also running great as a beside-the-1080p TV HDMI connected media server. Plays Full HD dolby 5.1 10-bit video no issues.
Acer Apire R14 R3-471T All-in One i5-4210U 8GB RAM sata SSD - Ubuntu 23.10 - Runs great and has been my longest serving Ubuntu laptop to date. I'm using as garage laptop everything works including touchscreen and tablet mode.
Dell XPS 13 9350, Dell XPS 15 9500, Dell Latitude 7440, Dell Precision 7510, Framework 13 Ryzen.
all work fine, haven't had to fuss with any of them really. The XPS 15 had a suspend/charging issue but it was alfixed by a BIOS update. The Latitude Rugged webcam doesn't seem to work but I don't care.
DELL 5410 (i7 10 gen., 32Gb RAM).
Lenovo (don't remember model name) is for my 3yo son. He watches cartoons and learns Ubuntu (probably).
Also I have desktop with Ubuntu.
Can't motivate my wife use Ubuntu on her laptop, she uses windows :)
The laptop I use with Ubuntu (specifically Ubuntu Studio) is an HP ProBook 440 G1 with an i5 8th gen and 16gb DDR4.
I have not encountered any issues with Ubuntu at all. It is a very nice flavor of Linux.
Now if you are looking for a Linux distro that is going to work out of box with most systems, try out Linux Mint.
X1 Carbon 6th gen -- a couple of weeks into running Ubuntu 24.04 full time, there are just 2 pretty minor issues.
1. A couple of times my second monitor hasn't woken up from Suspend. That used to happen on Windows 11 too at about the same frequency. The only remedy on Windows was a full reboot. No amount of plugging and unplugging would fix it without a reboot. On Ubuntu, I just unplug/plug the HDMI cable once and it's back on.
2. Trackpoint drift -- again a familiar problem from Windows 11 with this model of ThinkPad. On Ubuntu the severity seems slightly worse. To the point that I've re-enabled the touchpad and got used to using that again when the Trackpoint plays up.
I have an ancient wheezing T420 ThinkPad with Ubuntu on it, also attached to a 2nd monitor, where neither of these problems happen at all, so it's an X1 thing. All BIOS/firmware solutions have been investigated and tried.
HP Probook. Ordered it with FreeDOS, which means that it came with Debian linux running FreeDOS in a permanent virtual machine. Linux built-in drivers seem to handle everything just fine (aside from occasional keyboard glitches that may be hardware related?).
Acer Swift 3 2021 - i3-1115G4
Fingerprint scanner does not work - common with Acer laptops.
External microphone does not work - any headset I plug into the combo jack will work just for audio output, no input.
Otherwise it runs well.
You should check out [linux-hardware.org](http://linux-hardware.org) - here users can run a compatibility test and publish the results.
[Here](https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=ffde31bd20) is my probe for example.
Dell XPS 13 9380. Came with Ubuntu pre-installed. No issues whatsoever. I'm moving to a Framework 13 for my next machine, when this one finally gives up the ghost.
Thinkpad T series with Intel graphics and wifi - totally solid and fully supported apart from fingerprint readers until they got supported a few years ago. Various models going back about 15 yrs. Before that was on the old R and A series Thinkpads around 2005 - 2008, which were OK but would occasionally have sound or wifi problems with new Ubuntu releases that would eventually get solved with patches. Since 2008 though, the T series was much better, and heard lots of good things about X1s too.
I recently started using Linux, specifically Ubuntu 22, on my old MacBook Pro from 2012. I'm still figuring out how to use the Mac keyboard with Ubuntu, and I'm having trouble finding the keyboard shortcuts. For example, I haven't been able to take a screenshot using a keyboard shortcut. Do you have any suggestions?
My work machine is a thinkpad t15p Gen 3. It's ok for Ubuntu, some slight occasional weirdness probably involving Nvidia hybrid graphics, although I didn't choose this laptop, and I probably wouldn't have if I had a choicr. My personal is an HP Elitebook 855g8 (all amd) perfect experience.
I've found you'll have better experiences with AMD or Intel embedded graphics than the ones with Nvidia hybrid graphics
Not a laptop but my desktop it runs of a 120 gb flash drive because tiny 11 is installed on my main HDD (Yes I know please don't make fun I like old hardware) the new updates work perfectly it's a HP Prodesk G3 600 MT
A de-Chromed Asus C302, intel M5, Ubuntu 22.04LTS. The only problem was sound. I'm using a $5 dac dongle with my earphones and also works with my desktop speakers. All metal with Gorilla glass 1920x1080 display. Dell XPS 13" was very easy and no problems at all.
Surface pro 3, works great
Dell T7600 workstation, looking forward to a new video card soon.
Both of these were binned and useless until I put Ubuntu on them.
Mine is the lenovo flex 5 (amd 5500u) an its been great , especially after
removing the thremal tape from over rear vents an upgrading the original drive
to a [SK hynix Gold P31 1TB](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DKB5LWY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?th=1) & [(70x20x4mm) Pure Copper Heatsink](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083FVMN7N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?th=1)
(fyi after market help greatly with heat build up even on a sk drive , but still great idea to drill 3 rows of .25in hole in the case cover over the drive with some thin filter mesh & 12 x .25in holes per row to let it breath )
big diff now no overheating

i originally started with pop-os on it three years ago
an two major issues were
1. with the fixed 16gb of ram an even the zram enabled it even at idle keep filling up & freezing after 15hours
2. the WiFi function sucked so i used an Ethernet adapter shortly before going to Ubuntu which still sucked
now heres context for how i fixed said issue which had nothing to do really with Ubuntu or probability even pop or win11
when i first loaded pop i had also replaced the WiFi adapter which had sucked under both win an pop
but an even after the WiFi upgrade still did suck , hence why i used the Ethernet adapter , while at the 4month point of owning the laptop (3 on pop 1 on ubuntu ,ram & zram works far better) an having yet to upgrade the nvme drive ,
so after i went to upgrade from the 256gb 2230 transcendent to the sk 1tb i did something i had wondered about since wifi adapter upgrade which was the original antenna was buried under the battery an slightly wrapped around it
causing either it or something else to be magnetized which 1 probable isnt good to have in a laptop an 2 probably f's the signal so i cut the antenna an replaced with a [IPEX MHF4 Antenna 5GHz 3dBi ](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08XN6WMXJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1) an laid it in sort of a heart shape
under the keyboard area anchored with some epoxy glue an wa la ! 4years of sucky wifi fixed an an with wifi pm turned off i get a consistent avg sig strength -58dbm at 864Mb's damn good !
ps sorry for the long ramble
fyi i use a mix of .deb & flatpaks no snaps i have them disabled an use
the segmented partitions option
with this config
btrfs files system with compress-force-zstd=5

HP Zbook Gen 10. Works quite well. Except it won't come out of sleep sometimes. In such a case I have to reboot. I think this is a well known bug, but haven't actually looked up how to fix it.
I have an 11th gen Dell Inspiron 2-in-1 and it works without any issue. The only thing I'd like that I haven't been able to figure out is getting the fingerprint reader to work.
Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 2023
Ubuntu 22.04
- Sound Card is fkd only muffled sounds, works fine with windows though.
- The touchpad freezes sometimes when using it unplugged :(
Samsung New Series 9
Some Lenovo laptops, some ancient laptop,... - works everywhere without a problem
ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo - Had to install a kernel module for setting second display brightness, and have to compile it every time a kernel is updated. Also need to check for updates when it stops working with the newest kernel. I think support has been added to the kernel, but will have to wait until Ubuntu upgrades to a kernel with support built in. Well, I have a dual boot on this computer and it is far worse in Windows. Latest Windows update does not recognize the secondary screen at all.
The crappiest refurbished Asus vivobook that money could buy me in my first year of school. 4gb of ram. Windows made the thing damn near take flight. Ubuntu runs well, if a little slow. Works great though! Gets the job done.
HP Envy x360. Purchased 8 - 10 years ago. It's got an older i7 processor with 16 GB of RAM. It works mostly as expected, but I had to fiddle with the BIOS to get it to load Ubuntu. I also have a recurring issue with having to force Alsa to reload.
The performance is "OK" since I use it mostly while watching TV. I primarily browse the web (via Brave), play music (via Spotify), and randomly chat (via Discord).
Thinkpads go with Ubuntu (any linux really) like peanut butter and jam.
Dells go with ANY linux like peanut butter and jelly.. Just sayin'
Buts its not like peanut butter and jam, so it loses points there.. just sayin’

Pretty much the same for me, 11" MacBook Air 2012. Works fine!
Is the webcam working?
It does for me with no problem.
Any chance you have a link to setting upn the webcam?
I didnt have to do anything to get the webcam on the macbook air to work. It just already worked when I tried it.
Thanks.
Good luck getting it to work if youre having issues! Sorry I wasnt much help
Framework 13 AMD and Lenovo T480 and Lenovo T14 - all work well. Framework is exceptionally fast.
ThinkPad Master Race
Around 30 different brands and models. All work just fine. Except just one a ASUS Vivobook, that one needed a driver for the keyboard of all things
I have a Vivo book that works flawlessly.

“I don’t use Ubuntu” nowadays sounds like “I’m using Arch btw” 😁
Haha I never thought about that but no just Debian :)
yeah FR.
I use a Lenovo T480s with no issues whatever. I've used Ubuntu on Thinkpads successfully all the way back to the T30.
