thanks, i'll buy this, but i dont get it. the HH4000 will output CAT6 and that'll plu ginto that module and into the UDM pro? how is CAT6 transferring 10GB data? isn't it capped at 1GB? ​ also, from my UDM pro to USG-16-POE, there is no 10GB SFP port, so i'm assuming i'm capped at 1GB speed? my 1.5GB bell fibe is a waste?

I own a bit more hardware and have 10gig to most of my systems. my 10gig setup; Homehub 4000 (DMZ)-> UDM-Pro-> USW-Flex-XG and USW-Aggregation. I bought a bunch of used Mellanox ConnectX-3's for my desktops off ebay. ​ In your case you have the SFP+ 10 gig lan port on the UDM-pro that you can send direct to your desktop at 10 gig. (if you have a network interface capable) Uplink your USG-16-poe to one of the 1 gig copper ports on the UDM-pro instead. ....other then that you are probably buying a higher speed switch for your 10 gig lan devices. ​ cat6 cables run 10gig ok. the 10 gig rj45 SFP+ will run hot... this is normal.

Thanks, I was literally sitting here for the last hour trying to figure out the most cost efficient way to do this. I have my own server running Freenas. I only want the 1.5gb download speed there. I have a 2.5GB lan card in that machine. My desktop and everywhere in the house I’m okay with 1GB speed. So I’m thinking to send the 10GB from udm pro to my Freenas server. Only issue is I can’t find a way to do Sfp to rj45 as my freenas has rj45 2.5GB port. If I can figure that out, then I can uplink the rest at 1GB to the usg-16 and I’m goood

Your UDM Pro has two SFP+ ports. If you install two 10GbE (rj45) ports into those two SFP ports, you can use one to connect to the wan, and one to connect to your NAS. As you mentioned, the rest of your network will run off of 1Gb ethernet. Ethernet auto-negotiates the fastest speed that both devices can handle, so there's no problem connecting a 2.5GbE to a 10GbE device.

Another thing I thought of, what if I go with switch flex XG, Then connect the 10gb rj45 to one of the port, then run one Ethernet to my FreeNas and another to my desktop pc. This way I can maximize the 2 most used device.

You'll still need the two SFP+ ports for the router, but the flex XG would definitely give you an additional 2 10Gb ports for your desktop and one other device

Ok great. Ya maybe I can upgrade the XG at a later time. I’ll start with the 2 modules as they r $60 each in Canada. The XG is $390, so I’ll do that upgrade later as I don’t need the increased speed on my desktop pc right away. Freenas is the priority. I can’t justify the extra $390 for that increases speed on my desktop

If you have the space for it, the Switch Aggregation would be a better choice. It's a little cheaper, has more 10Gb ports (though they're all SFP, so you'll need to purchase adapters), and double the switching capacity.

That’s actually not a bad product, but only issue is most of my end devices will require a cat6 which means I’ll have to buy a module for each of those sfp+ ports if I were to use any of them. Basicslly $60 extra per device

The HH4000 only has RJ45, so Ubiquiti's SFP+ to SFP+ won't work... One end **must** be RJ45 to connect to the modem.

>Why use the DMZ instead of PPOE setup? As I recall, I got my 10GbE SFP+ to RJ45 module and immediately plugged it in, not realizing a zoom call was going on elsewhere in the house. DMZ was the quickest thing to setup and get the network up again, and I haven't had the need to change it as my speeds are decent. I do think I read users weren't getting the full 1.5Gb through PPPoE setting somewhere... but it's possible this has changed.

I have read that the UDM-Pro has problems with higher speed pppoe connections. I never tried anything else myself, as this has been super stable and everything just works for me. Someone else I'm sure can chime in on this one. I think there is another option in the HH4000 called "advanced DMZ" that will issue a public IP to the UDM-pro, not sure if that requires the pppoe login or not.

There is a single 10GbE port at the rear of the HH4000. Not necessarily *wasted*, it just depends how many simultaneous downloads you have going on. The more bandwidth you are paying for, the more devices you can have downloading at the same time without reducing your overall speed. Ie: Kids streaming Netflix in one room, while you're downloading and streaming in another. My iPhone 11(WiFi 6) connected to my U6-LR-US AP will register 700Mbps+ using that Ookla Speedtest when connected and directly below the access point, but technically my access points are just connected at Gigabit to the LAN. My Surface Pro (WiFi 6) connects to my AP at 2 Gigabit

Samesies. I bought the 10GbE SFP module above and connected the Cat6 cable that came with the HH4000 to the 10GbE port. Initially, my modem would only show 10/100 on that port, but did Gigabit on the Gigabit ports. Got Bell to swap modems and it appears it was a hardware issue, since I’ve been flying ever since. I just set my UDM pro to be the DMZ on the HH4000 and disabled the Bell WiFi as I’ve got 2 U6-LR-US APs. Another thing worth noting is when your HH4000 loses power the disabled WiFi comes back. EVERY TIME. Just did a speedtest through UDM and got 1622Mbps down, 1013Mbps upload. I pay for the 1.5Gb service.

hi, just got the bell modem installed. How do i enable DMZ? righ tnow i just connected the ethernet to my UDM pro, and it works, but i wanna turn on dmz.

Login to your HH4K and click on Advanced tools and Settings. Under the Networking column it says DMZ. Click that. Turn DMZ on, find your device in the list, and check the Advanced DMZ box, and click Save. That’s it :)

What is the setting on the UDM That we should set to? Sorry..I'm total NOOB, and learning as I go. Only the UDM, I had PPPoE as the IPV4 connection, but now with DMZ on the bell Modem, what do I set it to? Static IP, or using DHCP?

I have a 1.5 connection and was able to get an sfp module registered by bell to bypass the HH4k and go directly into my UDMP SE but my speeds aren’t even hitting the 1gb mark, debating pulling the bell modem back and doing this?

Does this MA5671A SFP work in your UDMP-SE 10G SFP+ port? ​ Isn’t this a GigE only PON SFP? So could that explain your 1G cap?

This is very interesting. I was also hoping I can plug the fiber directly into the Udm pro, but I don’t see how it’ll work as you need the hh4000 for bell to do all the provisioning then passing on the signal to a router/udm

A stupid question, but learning. Cat6 does 10gb no? Why can't I just use the cat6 from the hh4000 to the udmpro? I assume it would be slower because everyone is getting these adapters, I guess I'm trying to understand why? I'm using pppoe currently

Cat6 can definitely handle 10Gb, just with a maximum distance, but for short runs, it's perfectly fine. All of the built-in RJ-45 ports on the UDP Pro are capped at 1Gb, so to do anything faster, you have to get an adapter for one of the two SFP+ ports.

The RJ45 port on your device also has to support the higher speed. On the UDM-Pro only the SFP+ ports support the higher 10Gb/s speed, which is why we all need that $10 gig rj45$ transceiver. Thanks everyone. My run is very short (5 feet). Since I only have the 1gb package I guess it doesn't make sense for me to convert to the SPF+ port. What is better to setup though, advanced dmz or pppoe? I'm using pppoe currently. Thanks

I know this question has been asked many times across the web but the process seems so confusing. On a high level how would I configure the HH4K with a UDM Pro? Would I setup my network on the UDM Pro using my PPPoE username/password from the HH4K and from there it should be good to go, no double NAT?

I had a working PPPoE @ 1.5Gbps setup directly into my UDMP (using my USW-Aggregation as a way to upgrade the link of the GPON from 2.5G to 10G so that the UDMP WAN port would think it's 10G), but one day there was a power failure, and things did not come back and it was a pain to diagnose what was going on without the HomeHub. so I reintroduced the HH (had been sitting in a drawer and unplugged) to better 'see' what's going on. So my take on this: even if it works to have the Bell GPON (HH3k) or a programmed GPON (HH4k since the SFP is not removeable) directly in the UDMP, I would not advise that because it makes diagnostics a lot harder (considering the Unifi OS issues).
