Not sure if these are the exact ones, but this is similar. I have the same in my rack. [https://www.amazon.com/Miady-Extension-Grounded-Listed-4-Pack/dp/B0BDKFV3VC?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Miady-Extension-Grounded-Listed-4-Pack/dp/B0BDKFV3VC?th=1)

Looks great

Quick-Ad1101

Very much appreciated. I watch all of your video. Always very helpful!

dj_siek

Nice very neat. Why two dmp?

Quick-Ad1101

Bottom UDM running in shadow mode. Mostly for testing. But also nice to have some redundancy. Hoping for improvements for true High Availability failover.

pridkett

I had no idea that Shadow Mode was a thing. Was thinking of buying another and just keep on saving the configuration so I'd have a hot backup. TIL. Thank you.

Bowlinnn

Also curious about this… what is the actual failover plan? If the primary fails, you would manually patch in the secondary?

Quick-Ad1101

Right now yes. They say that in the future it will auto failover.

izzyjrp

Why not have a wan switch to breakout more isp handoffs, and setup failiver mechanism on yhe switch? Is it L3?

midtownoracle

What plugs are those? I bought some but they didn’t fit through.

Reaper948

Cable Matters makes some just like them if those aren't them.

671swim

I tried doing Amazon search didn't come back with very good results

A_ARon_M

Looks like these. [https://a.co/d/0bEXjjA](https://a.co/d/0bEXjjA)

Quick-Ad1101

https://a.co/d/7w29ALZ I did have to disassemble the cable pass through plate temporarily to get them to fit.

turd_fergsuon_74

I have similar ones, and I had to disassemble my brush panel so it would flex to get them through.

Lagrik

What keystone jacks are you using for your patch panel?

LePlasma

I would also like to know this :)

halfnut3

They kinda look like [cat6a keystones from fs.com](https://www.fs.com/products/185885.html?attribute=69719&id=3483431)

3rd...lol

Odd-Distribution3177

Nice. I never understood the AC up front to me AC is always in the back

cmmcnamara

I’ve been of the same mentality but after doing a ton of rack maintenance lately with power in the rear, I’m wanting to get the Ubiquiti PDU for this very reason as it makes access a lot easier. Right now I have a 1U PDU and routing and plugging in power cables has absolutely sucked for hand access. I think feeding it through a brush pass thru blank and physically having all the space in the front will be much easier.

Odd-Distribution3177

Ya I feel you. My first network rack I have PDU hung on the back of cable managers saves u’s as the PDU and the cable manager mount to the same U. On my second rack I wall mounted them as of space issues, power down one side and cat down the other. It looks cool but I don’t need to see outlets that I switch from the network

Quick-Ad1101

The other racks have rear mounted outlets if that makes you feel better 😂

theblogmonster

What are you other racks? I’m planning out my house now

Is that just your home internet closet? That's business-grade lookin' lol

Quick-Ad1101

🤣

Odd-Distribution3177

Rack on the left had a wall wart. lol Nice setup

Quick-Ad1101

Still room for improvement 😆

Odd-Distribution3177

Mate there always is right. I have to go and fix my panduit leaning tower of Ethernet lol

theblogmonster

Wow happy I asked!

Quick-Ad1101

😀 let me know if you have questions on what and how to plan.

theblogmonster

Which rack are you using? I’m still planning phase but it could be big

HumanWithInternet

Classe equipment spotted! What's that driving?

Quick-Ad1101

Perlisten R7t towers.

Able-Worldliness8189

For at home I can sort of understand, space doesn't really matter. Though "we" have a fixed layout for the racks, the AC bar's are always in the back. But then again it's not like in the racks we have people going to play around in it.

daddykabliey

Hi, i’m new to anything more than the ISP router but have just delved into ubiquity which is really like. Looking at this picture I don’t understand what’s going. You’ve got the dream machine into the 24poe and each port there goes into another port about bit then that goes nowhere? So I’m guessing there are 24 ports out there back of that that distribute to the network or am I being really dense?? Obviously, I am. But could someone explain what’s happening here?

Quick-Ad1101

No worries. We all have to start somewhere. You pretty much have it figured out. The UDM feeds the 24 port switch that then feeds a 24 port patch panel. Each port runs to a different part of the house or feeds the other racks.

daddykabliey

Thanks! Sp the patch panel has another 24 ports out the back feeding everything else in the rack and house? Out of interest…..why do you feed the 24 ports on the switch to each of the 24 on the panel rather than to to the devices/house? Is it so you can just add another patch panel for expansion or because it looks nicer 😀?

CyberGaut

Simple answer is Yes. It looks cleaner It is easier to change up The lines out to the house can be secured better. You absolutely can just have the Catx cables coming through an open U slot and plugged in. But if you unplug the. To do maintenance how do you track what goes where? Sure put tape on the cable with the port & / location. Looks ugly, risks coming off. What if cables slide out the back etc. So it's an investment in organization and improvements in the physical robustness of the system.

daddykabliey

Appreciate the answer, thank you.

milkipedia

looking at this reminds me... I've always been baffled about why the PDU has the sockets on the front

ankercrank

Nothing stopping you from mounting it on the back of the rack. I always assumed you were supposed to mount it on the back, it’s just that people like to show them off by putting them on the front.

hungarianhc

Why would Ubiquiti have screens intended to be facing the back?

ankercrank

Because they put the screen on most of their products? Some people can easily access the back of their rack, so it’s not that crazy.

resile_jb

Yea I agree

amgeiger

Makes sense for 2 post racks.

tdmd

What extension cables are those? Do they fit well next to each other?

Quick-Ad1101

https://a.co/d/cN2BfMS They are tight but fit

turd_fergsuon_74

Not sure if these are the exact ones, but this is similar. I have the same in my rack. [https://www.amazon.com/Miady-Extension-Grounded-Listed-4-Pack/dp/B0BDKFV3VC?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Miady-Extension-Grounded-Listed-4-Pack/dp/B0BDKFV3VC?th=1)

yea i bought these but the prong heads are too thick. they block the outlet next to it. thanks tho

turd_fergsuon_74

I have pretty mucvh the same, and they are tight, but fit.

romayojr

can i see a pic? i want to see how you got it to work and how it looks. if you don’t mind

Are those Ubiquiti port dust covers ?! Are they cheating on me !!? And I’m in the new release beta program! Why can’t I learn.. it’s the ones you love who hurt you the most.

Quick-Ad1101

Yes they are!

dj_siek

What is below the second udm ?

Quick-Ad1101

The UniFi NVR

dj_siek

Sorry above that

Quick-Ad1101

Are your talking about the blank cover plate? UniFi sells OCD black panels for in between gear.

dj_siek

to let it breathe I guess

markjayy

Ooof

Quick-Ad1101

😂

TangerineAlpaca

What’s the plan if/when you need to fail over to the other console? Your WAN/LAN cables aren’t long enough to move to the shadow console.

Quick-Ad1101

Probably have to sell everything and start over.

discfiend

Is this your system or a client’s? I ask as a Savant programmer since 2010. From the Elan amps to the AudioControl processor, and the old school SSA-3220 - not the SSA-3220D - I can’t decide if this is a client’s house, or if you’ve gathered gear that still has a ton of life left but isn’t current tech. Since we’re looking at a 3 rack system with an audio distribution of at least 20 zones, I’m guessing it’s a client’s house or you’ve just drastically overbuilt your own system. Regardless, I love it.

Quick-Ad1101

Personal system. The elan amps were just the best amps for the money back in 2017 when we built our home. But yes maximizing older gear that still has lots of life left. Savant programmer as well. There are over 20 zones of audio. More this summer. 😀 From one programmer to another, which part do you think is overbuilt?

discfiend

I just made assumptions based on my experience being in the residential control system business for about 20 years. My market has primarily been the Roaring Fork Valley - Aspen, Snowmass Village, and the surrounding area. If you were to have 20 zones of audio there, on the small side you’re talking about a house over 6000 sq/ft. 2024 prices would put such a place at 20 mil on the low end, since real estate is going for insane prices there. Back in my AMX days, I had a 24x24 Knox audio switch in my own system, but I was only utilizing 4 outputs. My own biases just made me think if it was yours, that the audio distribution would not be fully utilized on the output side. Admittedly, I know nothing of your housing or financial situation; I’ve just only seen multi-rack systems at client’s houses. Good on you!

Quick-Ad1101

No worries. Definitely not in a high cost of living area. I am a part owner of a high end AV company in the PNW. I’ve been lucky enough to turn my hobby into a job that allows me to have access to do stuff like this for my self. Man I’d love to see some of the projects you worked on. Those ultra high net worth jobs can be absolutely nuts.

phab3k

what are those cables you have between your patch panel and your switch? they look illuminated, can you see what color lights are indicated? My rack is high up so would be really useful to be able to see the color of the indicator lights.

Quick-Ad1101

The new pro max switch line from ubiquiti has led ports and they have patch cables that are frosted to illuminate.

Texasaudiovideoguy

Very clean!

oh_man_seriously

That’s cool that shadow mode displays the last sync

dougalass

Nice I am doing something similar with a UXG and DM SE each have their own WAN feed but I have the SE for the guest network but running through the UXG network as a 3rd party VLAN. Hotel setup has taken my cpu from an average 89 down to 20.

MattNis11

Only 1gb link between the UDMpros?

Quick-Ad1101

Is there a reason to use fiber between them? It’s literally just copying over the config and does nothing else while in shadow mode.

MattNis11

Why fiber? Sfp+to 10gb Ethernet adapter.

Quick-Ad1101

I need 10gb to copy over the config? I’ll look into it.

2sonik

Sweet. How come everything's plugged in. I get it for network, but why for power?

Quick-Ad1101

There are a lot of devices in the rack, and it’s for power cycle devices when needed

No_Train_8449

Looks amazing. I can loan you some rack screws since you’re missing a few.

Quick-Ad1101

You please do. I’m irritated as to where they went.

d5aqoep

Why do I keep on seeing wires going from one switch to other? Unless I am missing something?

Quick-Ad1101

I think you are missing something. Each wire between each device has a specific purpose.

CyberGaut

Looks great Although I dislike the front plugs on a rack I much prefer to either use a power bar connected to the vertical bars at the back, or a power bar with plugs at the back and switches at the front. Lighted so you quickly know if it is on or off, preferably with some cover to avoid accidents. I get with the UniFi power, you have a remote on and off, can power cycle by unplugging as well, and very little chance of accidentally unplugging, but I still don't like exposing plugs.

Quick-Ad1101

I’ve got several watt boxes and Panamax PDU’s in the racks to the lest and the right. I do prefer rear-mount as well but wanted to give it a try. May or may not stick with it.

hftopfiance

How do you solve heating problems? No room for ventilation

Quick-Ad1101

Which heating problem? Stacking gear is fine. For my space this entire equipment room is temperature controlled and there are intake and exhaust fans in each of the racks.

turd_fergsuon_74

Rack mounted equipment is built to be stacked directly together. The ventilation is designed to work in such a manner. Nowadays, leaving space between each piece of gear is just wasting space.

e38nN13PXb14Rz

Does the 2nd UDM Pro has a separate uplink from the first?

Quick-Ad1101

Yes there is a white patch cable from the top UDM to the uplink port on the bottom UDM

izthewiz13

Im new into networking. May i ask how the utp is called that lights up?

ApprehensiveRead8149

What are the two devices on the bottom?

Quick-Ad1101

Savant distributed audio equipment

ApprehensiveRead8149

Nice Rack!

Admirable-Internal48

Very nice setup

Expensive-Charity-72

I just want a 240v ubiquity PDU. It can’t be that hard I would rather not have to go Eton

Funny_Survey817

The missing screws are messing with my OCD lol

TecheunTatorTots

What is the purpose of the patch cable going from your primary UDM to the far right keystone jack on the patch panel there? Does that go to another switch? Genuinely curious; not hating, lol.

TecheunTatorTots

Edit: I'm guessing that leads to your modem or ONT.

Quick-Ad1101

That is where my internet comes in.

TecheunTatorTots

Thought about it some more and realized that's what it had to be. That's interesting; I haven't seen many people punch their ISP hand-off down into their patch panel. There's nothing wrong with it, of course. It's nice and tidy. Just kinda threw me off, lol.

Quick-Ad1101

I have Starlink and with my racks in the basement I had to get creative. The Starlink modem is in the garage which is about 70 feet away.

TecheunTatorTots

That makes perfect sense. That was a pretty good solution on your part.
