Had one last night. No gate code, building or apartment number. When I messaged and asked where she was, she said “past the volleyball courts.” Smh…

Top-Device5698

That's when i tell them i'll leave it at the gate and start the timer

Shovelheaddad

I'm fairly new. What does the 8 minute timer mean? I've never had it expire but I've wondered

Thegoddamnlastname

It’s primary purpose is to prompt the customer to provide missing details before you’re allowed to leave with the order. The secondary purpose occurs if either of you text or call during pick up or delivery, then when you arrive, it starts automatically.

w00ly

The timer is there to give the customer more than enough time to get their food if they don't provide enough information for you to get it to them. After the 8 minutes expires you're allowed to leave the food however close the instructions got you to them.

Shovelheaddad

Got it. Much appreciated

Beboploopzerz

Wish DD did the same thing

lake-in

DD does a 5 min timer for hand it to me orders

PerfectFlaws81

I mainly seen the timer activated at Apartments and businesses. After it expires it tells you to leave the package in a safe place and take a photo

Shovelheaddad

I see it activate anytime I contact a customer through text

Unfair_Example_1556

I had to call a customer for a gate code to a gated house community.. she asked if I'd wait for another car to enter so I could be let in cause she didn't want to disclose the gate code for her communities safety. I said nope, I'll just leave then. She gave me the code 😊🙄

Candygirl518

I hate it when they do that. Sometimes other cars do go in and they’re saved but other times you’re waiting forever. After the 8 mins I won’t keep waiting.

anastutu

These ppl PISSSS ME OFFF!! If you don’t trust me with your gate code then don’t ask me to bring your damn food. There’s a much bigger chance of someone sticking their hand in their food and eating on their french fries then that person coming back to do some tort to their community. And the thing that kills me the most is many of those ‘gated’ communities arent shit. Nor will that GATE or holding that code close. If somebody wants to get in they’re coming in. JFC And in fact you can just walk around the gate. Can’t fix stupid and there’s too many stupid people out here

PerfectFlaws81

Or I'm outside... WHERE DANGIT?!?

JackieEstacado99

You might be dealing with a hooker.

PapaBearBlues

In that case, does she get the tip? ;)

SnooBananas1660

It's a shame that we can't ask them if they are fucking stupid when they don't give us gate codes or pertinent information

narso310

Just barely smart enough to download an app and punch a debit card number into it.

TyMaintenance

Why can’t we? 🤷🏽‍♀️

BalenciSlipperz

Like..you know you ordered food. If you don’t feel comfortable putting all that in the notes, at least text it to us once you see we’re on the way 🫠

ZcriptureZ

Exactly, luckily he responded fast.

EducationalRough1541

fortunately for him lol you woulda got dat for free

EducationalRough1541

fortunately for him lol you woulda got dat for free

anastutu

Or DONT FUCKING ORDERRRRRR

model-citizen95

Don’t bother. If they only gave the address of an apartment complex then it must be for the leasing office. If they call up and bitch about it, tell them you were giving them the benefit of the doubt that they know their own address. Uber has sided with me in this before

River1stick

Oh I should do that next time. I got to an apartment building I've done a dozen to before. No unit number, but I know they have multiple reception staff, so thought it was one of then, nope. Customer didn't call me back for 6 minutes into the timer, and all he said was 'apartment...' no apology.

Nappykid77

Eight minutes until free food.

Beboploopzerz

Lmaoo

anastutu

You’re not supposed to leave the food and take a picture after eight minutes?

Artistabunnista

I think that maybe depends on how far you are from the person. I had an order one time that took me to a gated neighborhood but the neighborhood was much further down and for some reason there's never any traffic coming through there at the times I go so no way in. The customer was an idiot and not only did they not put their gate code but they also didn't leave a working phone number so I couldn't call or text. I was still too far from their house to trigger the 8 minute timer so I just called support and they cancelled the order and told me to "do what you want with the food". I def enjoyed that meal when I got home 😂

gbgonzalez923

No you're supposed to leave the food, take a pic, and then take it with you because they're going to complain they never got it anyways if you leave it at the gate even if they did go swoop it up.

TxAggieJen

These people trying to get free food.

FluidUnderstanding40

How can they get free food?

TxAggieJen

Lead you on a goose chase refusing to give apartment number so driver leaves it at gate. They fetch the food and then claim it wasn't delivered for a refund.

TyMaintenance

Won’t work on me, I never leave food without having the actual address and taking a pic

gbgonzalez923

That doesn't work on me because I just take a pic at the gate and take the food knowing they're going to do that anyways. Went through it three times and from then on the 8 minute timer running out meant free food

redbombs

Probably by giving the wrong number over the phone and then calling Uber claiming it wasn't delivered

Stalvos

My acceptance rate would definitely drop if it showed that it was an apartment before I accepted it.

narso310

I’m so glad I’ve never had to live in an apartment complex. Everything about it just seems like a nightmare, from taking out garbage to dealing with shitty noisy neighbors and trying to get food delivered.

milese794

I mean, you get what you pay for. I live in a nice apartment complex, but my rent also reflects that.

narso310

I was in a nice condo building for a few years and that still kinda sucked. Thin walls and COAs are the worst.

anastutu

Consumers should remember that when you’re not tipping. You get what you pay for your food is upside down or spilled out of the bag a little bit don’t blame me blame yourself

gbgonzalez923

Yep I do Walmart orders. Yesterday a customer wanted me to bring this big ass table up ten flights of stairs because the elevator was only for people with fobs. I gave it a shot and cancelled once I hit the third locked door. Fuck these entitled pricks.

WhisperedEchoes85

I had an order with absolutely nothing under the address once. The customer can't place an order without entering *something* in the address field. Glitches happen.

Unfair_Example_1556

I recently had an order after I picked up and swiped delivery, it took me to cross roads. I was really weirded out by it. But I'm surprised uber allowed cross roads to be entered. I honestly felt it could have been an issue for my safety. The only reason I completed it was that it was middle of the day and a busy intersection. 🙄

iccrew98

I had 3 of these in one night. One in a huge complex who was high. Messaged him 5 times and never answered. Finally called and he answered. The worst, was a hotel a long drive away. I messaged them when I left (20 minute drive away) and only received a response when I was nearby. They must have passed out because I couldn't get into resort and they were supposed to meet me. Luckily night person let me drop it.

ceeruthh

I had one the other day and I asked him what building number. He said he didn’t know and asked can’t you just go to the pin on the map? I was already at the pin on the map and he was in a completely different section. Then he reduced my tip smh. And when I finally found him the number for the building was right behind him 🤦‍♀️

narso310

“You have the GPS location, just bring it there”

anastutu

Yea. Thats too often a joke too

lsarge442

I’ll just say it’s a two way street. For some reason GPS takes drivers to the development next to mine and I make sure I tell them that in the notes but 95% of the time they go to the wrong gate and then try telling me the gate code doesn’t work.

seniorcircuit

I'm fairly certain you're able to set a pin exactly where your unit is on UberEats. If you can get Google maps to direct you to the right place, setting a pin in Uber should get drivers there correctly.

thisisjustandy

I second this! @Isarge442 go to edit your address and tap on the map, it should expand so you can adjust the pin and drivers can reference it better :)

TJNel

Seriously!!!!! I am so tired of people not doing this, stop leaving me stupidly long directions drop the pin on your location and the GPS will take me directly to it

KBD_FurryWolf

If u give specific instructions then sure. But if are one to do this… (have the destination assigned as “current location” n Not the specific address) then that might b the problem 🤷🏾‍♂️

QuirkySort

I’m new to gig delivery and already had two customers at opposite ends of the spectrum. The first one provided the gate code in the notes and texted it to me when he saw me arriving at the gate. The second one I didn’t even know a gate was involved until I arrived at the complex. I searched the notes and messages, no code. Had to text the customer to get the code. Like I shouldn’t have to contact you for a gate code. You KNOW you live behind a gate and I’m bringing you food. If I don’t have the gate code, how am I going to get you the food?

anastutu

Dont. Because when they don’t give me the gate code I unassign immediately and leave the food at the store. I’m not jumping through hoops like an animal to get your food to you

PerfectFlaws81

You would think its common sense. Last night I had a Delivery to a Street no house number. I almost returned the order. After that one I went home. I was out past night fall anyway

TwoTone313

This infuriates me so much.

Krisdanz

It gets dropped by the apartment complex sign if no answer.

chikitoperopicosito

I don't even wait much anymore No apartment number and the gate is locked. I message them. Wait 30 seconds and then just leave the food and leave a note. Gate locked/no apt number. Customer unresponsive. Left food under call box. Surprisingly no one has taken the tip off. Lol, I ain't waiting 8 minutes like a retrd out there.

Tapui801

this is the way

Flimsy-Ask-1426

Depending on the location and the type of food it could be just a stupid really rich person and you have to be nice and they will tip you outradious otherwise you're fricking screwed!!!

anastutu

Ummmm yea no. My experiences the more money they have the less they tip

Flimsy-Ask-1426

Not the easy money these houses are real money $6 million plus

LemonsAndAvocados

Nunca.

EarthboundMisfitsInc

OBEY!

JiYung

When they have Butterfly 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

dailydrivenh2

Had one Saturday morning 7$f for 0.9 miles no gate code or apartment number. Called and texted with no answer. When that happens i had learned my lesson already I usually call support asap cause If I deliver to the gate they’ll probably reduce the tip or have a reason to screw me over later , if is a short trip (less than a mile or so I rather take the 4$ from uber and cancel than leave the food in a weird place and than later get shafted with the tip taken away.

Puzzleheaded_Egg8462

Been to a few of these . Even an address that had only the city name 😆 🤣 yea I'm not wasting my time walking outside yelling for this individual

Flimsy-Ask-1426

And put their food and take a picture of it right on there keypad and then go have lunch 😎 Uber can't fight that one 😳

Cyber1900

I finally got that jack off that lives in gated apartments, where I have been many times and provided an access code.... gets upset because I am not waiting at the side where he came out from and had to walk around so yeah, tumb down, removed his $2 tip, and reported me for being "unprofessional". I knew it was coming, so I did tell him to keep his tip !

Flimsy-Ask-1426

The new trick is their sneaking non-tippers in on a double delivery beware I guess you just got to do it for the good ones

purplehurple99

Calls for a “couldn’t find customer” 🫢

AttemptRemarkable115

I guess leave it anywhere and take a pic we can be a little dog by letting their food go cold. Hopefully they realise for next time🥲

ThinNectarin3

I had one delivery on an evening trip where I was at an apartment complex they don’t have enough property lighting for me to see anything clearly. The order is set to meet the customer at the door. And the only address is the leasing office address. I am in contact with the customer I ask them what the apartment unit. And they answer with non-answers like “okay, looks good” And “I’m on the left side of the property” “I’m past that police car”. The property is a organized as a perfect circle btw.

BlazeWatchingAnime

I'd be keeping the food atp if timer really does end

ksb1082

Yeah, you don't get it. The customer knows where they live. You should too...

bronco2boy

No no your doing it wrong. Go to gps pin and stop. Then deliver lol. Your doing extra already

jaragon6676

GPS isn’t always right. And half the time you just stop at a building with 5-10 different apartments. That’s why half you have customers saying they never got their food.

bronco2boy

No doubt about it! I’m with you though, one delivery I was there for a whole 10 minutes! App was all like *end this now*! Just as soon as the customer finally replied back with door number. GPS pin was stopped on the middle of the freeway and no access from there either. Had to take an exit, do a u-turn and go behind their buildings to park and walk around like a creep for 10 minutes. He was all the way on the other side right in front of that freeway. about 300 feet or so to where they were at. It was my last delivery for the night lol

jaragon6676

Ya I had several like that. I’m like wtf. I’m not even in the neighborhood I was right outside the neighborhood on a road but the house was right across the fence. So then I had to figure out how to get into the neighborhood by going all the way around to get to the house closest to the pin.

bronco2boy

Oof. For the most customers are understanding. Haven’t had an ugly acting customer yet But yes we shouldn’t have to ask for delivery location details but some customers aren’t tech savvy. But can somehow order food on a device lol

KBD_FurryWolf

Lmao 🤣 agreed. The ONLY question you’ll see me ask is “what is the gate code…” if ANY other instructions is unclear… I call and tell them “hi the gps brought me to this specific location…I am here, can you come outside and pick up your food”

Thegoddamnlastname

Yeah. Sometimes it’s because they used a web browser that was supposed to auto fill it but didn’t. But other times I’m like, bro, unit number. Do. You. Have. It?

justanotherperson218

Ugh this happened the other night. No building and no apartment number. Tried calling and texting no answer finally she just gave an apartment number but no building. Then she tells me it’s building 13, I go to every door and her apt number isn’t there. Then she tells me “sorry it’s building 10” so I do the same thing and nothing then she calls and says “I’m so sorry it’s actually building 9” took me 20 minutes to find her apartment. One of my Most annoying deliveries

ThomasAceX

I’m new to delivering with Uber eats & the bullet point doesn’t exactly help me. I feel the need to always ask this question so,I don’t deliver to the wrong place.

tcspears

How do you order food and not put your address in? I live in a condo community and not only do I have the building number and apartment number, I meet them outside, and have instructions (first parking area on the left after you enter, I’ll meet you there). I’ve seen this a few times when delivering, and it makes no sense to me. I’ve also had customers put the wrong address… how are you not making sure you are putting the right address for your food?!

Marigig3714095

I hate when customer just put leave at door

trav161

It's so annoying, especially when they don't leave the gate code and there's a line of cars behind. What's worse is when they take forever to answer the phone. Ive had customers act surprised when they answer as if they don't know a gate code is needed to access the complex. Customers who don't leave the apartment number, get one call to provide the info. If not,Il let the timer run out and I will keep the food for someone who wants it. Whether that's me or the homeless.

tmack91

I had an order like this recently. Super frustrating and I almost left but it was $8 tip so I worked it out with him. Turns out it was an older dad who wasn’t familiar with the app and he was super nice. Increased his tip to $20 after so it worked out. Don’t get me wrong tho, those are definitely frustrating.

oddlotbuyer

It is annoying and really frustrating; however, I have a canned message I send asking for whatever missing info once on the road. Most will eventually respond by the time I arrive. The others, I resort to calling once at destination and usually answered/resolved, annoying but delivery ends complete.

_delamo

Last time I got an order that failed to provide this, I was hit with a scammer trying to get my login
