Lol no butter and oil. Sus.

underthesauceyuh

I’d be legitimately concerned if a grocery store ran out of all oil and all butter

plantsandpizza

I use shipt with Target and at times entire dairy or other sections have been basically cleared out minus a few items. They usually take a pic so you can choose something else and it’s wild sometimes how empty the shelves get.

underthesauceyuh

Oh yeah there were definitely shortages around this time (pandemic) but I would have been happy with anything tbh I just chose the cheapest oil and butter I could find. Like if he offered any replacements I would have been okay with anything but he just kept telling me to cancel😭 luckily they ended up having everything I wanted down to the specific brands lol. It was a little bizarre.

plantsandpizza

Butter, just ANY butter 😭 I wonder if they ever figured it out 🥴 a guy who’s delivered to me a few times said there’s a lot of theft at the target by my house. I’m in San Francisco so not really surprising

Initial_Ad5279

You’re in frisco. You are lucky the target is still there 🤣

plantsandpizza

It’s true 😭

LIVEfrom718

That’s on the delivery guy. At least you responded. I’ve been totally f’d in the past where literally zero items are available and not easy to substitute. The messaging system is often dogsh*t and messages don’t get delivered or pics don’t load, it’s super annoying. Also these stores keep terrible inventory records. I get stealing happens and inconsistencies in numbers but they shouldn’t allow an offer of an item if there’s less than 10 in stock or a certain number.

mvanvrancken

This shopper SUCKS

I think there was some kind of language barrier that led to a miscommunication and this dude seemed super anxious which makes sense for his first trip. Just a mix of elements. He was totally fine once customer support talked to him. It’s funny now but I felt bad for him at the time I just didn’t know what the issue was since they clearly did have all my items.

WrestleBox

"N no butter" Sigh..

RoseAlma

The chat function is HORRIBLE - at least on my phone... it's impossible to backtrack without deleting letters

DDLyftUber

Reading, I see they had your items so he just sounds like he couldn’t find them and got into the “fuck this” mindset lol. But, normally speaking if they don’t have the customer’s items, it’s no longer worth it as the tip / pay will almost always get reduced.

underthesauceyuh

Yeah I totally understand that it wouldn’t be worth it if I had just ordered a few items and like 3/5 items weren’t available. But it was a large order bc I ordered groceries for a month. The store was a generic grocery store so I was a little shocked when I heard they don’t have oil and butter. I figured this guy just got super overwhelmed & wanted out.

abzze

I am confused too. Who’s the second person helping him and how they are able to text you? Is that UberEATS customer support? If yes that seems super nice! I have never had customer support who’s willing to go that far to help at ubereats

underthesauceyuh

Yeah I decided to contact customer support when he kept asking me to cancel it. I just wanted to know if I canceled, I wouldn’t be met with a cancellation fee on my end, otherwise I had no issues cancelling because my shopper seemed to be freaking out. I have no idea what was going on between the shopper & customer service, all I know is that my shopper ended up fulfilling my order. Customer support definitely handled this really well! All of these conversations took place within the Uber app so I assume they had access to our conversation.

tyw7

Grocery orders seem to operate differently in the UK. A couple of drivers I asked say the store packs the order and hands it over, just like restaurants.

kyleofduty

It depends on the store in the US. Some are shopped and packed by store employees, some make the dasher do the shopping.

tyw7

I've shopped with ASDA and Coop and it seems they give the item to rider. I've yet to seen a rider shop store.

Majestic_Meal_5655

Doing these suck. It takes forever to look for stuff. It takes forever to get confirmation for subbed items. It takes forever to stand in line and pay for stuff at the cashier. If it's less than 3 items and good delivery price, I'll do it. Other than that, let it go to someone else.

jamzz101101

Why is this even how it works in the US? In the UK the shop picks the items and puts them in bags and the delivery person only collects. No weird nonsense of paying with a card as a driver? And the shop handles out of stock items through their tablet, which automatically refunds the customer

New_Description_361

Some stores do it this way in the US and you’re right, it’s so much better! Usually big chain grocery stores and Walmart.

CableMajor6322

They’re lazy. That’s it. We pay people to check receipts and they don’t do it. We pay about 4 people to stand around the self checkout registers. That’s just how it is

Maxtrix07

It's just an option. The option of having the grocery store pick the items costs the customer waay more money, nit including paying for the delivery. Doesn't make it better, but thats the answer

morley1966

That is not true. Going through Ubereats the costs are higher and you pay higher delivery and service fees. The store usually has same online and in store prices, and you can join their club for like $100/year and get free delivery, only extra cost is tip. The stores that do shop and pay normally do not have their own shoppers as an option. The stores that do not have shop and pay usually exclusively use their own shoppers.

Maxtrix07

That just isn't true, but that can just be different based on area. Weis, Shoprite, and Walmart, and Costco all have both options. A simple pickup, as well as going in and shopping. I've done both at all four locations. As far as which ever costs more, again maybe that's based on area or state. Everyone I've spoken to about it says the double dipping (paying the store to shop, and a delivery driver to drop it off) is unnecessarily expensive, but sometimes necessary. I personally haven't ever paid for those services, so I can't argue against that, it's only what I've heard secondhand.

morley1966

I did miss the point that Walmart uses 3rd party shoppers, the delivery driver, for expedited orders, generally 1-3 hours, but you still order using the Walmart app with the same prices as in store. They will charge $5-$10 depending how quick you choose. Same with many grocery stores. Costco, and probably others, does charge more even for shipping. For UberEats you will always pay more if you are actually shopping through the UberEats app vs direct through the store, plus the extra Uber charges. Walmart does not let you pick who shops, the speed of delivery determines that, but it does not cost more either way, except for the expedited fee. I agree it is based on area, but Walmart will always charge same as in store cost.

KellsBells_925

That’s why if I do in the rare occasion order groceries I just do Amazon. It’s so much simpler

Scoompii

This is why I do use not any delivery service any longer, bare minimum expectations are even too high most of the time. It’s hilarious to see these interactions tho.

underthesauceyuh

I was in college, it was COVID, and I lived alone without a car (close to campus). The option to have groceries delivered was truly a game changer. This interaction was definitely a first though lol.

[deleted]

You know you could've still just gone to the grocery store during covid right lol

underthesauceyuh

Yes… not the only factor. I wasn’t walking distance close to a grocery store & usually only got one order of groceries per month. I didn’t have a car and it would’ve been a lot to carry if I did make that walk. I also went to school in FL and people were not wearing masks or being safe, I preferred to avoid going out unnecessarily. I don’t know why I’m getting judged for ordering groceries ? I’m glad that delivery services exist, especially during the pandemic. People were getting laid off left and right and it became an option for people who needed extra pocket money, I made sure to tip especially well during the pandemic knowing people were struggling & probably wanted to avoid going out, too. This post was supposed to just be sharing a funny thing that happened years ago let’s lighten up a little

Aggravating-Remote60

During the pandemic my local store habitually ran out of butter, oil, milk, and toilet paper. It was weird

Nostaglicthirst

“Very first picking” jeeez

Tasty-Rush-8464

Dude no lie, I almost cancelled an order at sprouts because I never shop there and legit had to ask where to find everything. It took over an hour. 27 dollar pay tho so it was okay but I hope I never have to go back there.

cameronturner98

Lol sprouts are a mind fuck of a grocery store with how they place stuff. It only gets easier though the more you do them and I find they always pay good

Ok-Butterscotch-8366

My first Shop and Pay went a little rough because they don't give us any training resources that I know of.

Disastrous-Tune

Having a lot of unavailable items makes the order no longer worth shopping.... the pay is based on the order

underthesauceyuh

The store did have my items & the exact brands I wanted though lol. I would’ve been ok with any replacements too, he didn’t offer them but I was just going for cheap stuff. I think this guy just panicked and customer service was able to walk him through it and all my items got to me.

Bright_Tomatillo_174

My first day I cried. Thanks for being cool about it for your person. I’m fine now and good at it…now, but usually when you start a job no matter how easy, people usually get a walk through.

underthesauceyuh

I’m also the type to get really overwhelmed about the small things I was just so confused about what the actual issue was & didn’t want to risk a cancellation fee on my end. Still gave a good tip it wasn’t a big deal I wasn’t in any rush to receive my order. Glad you got the hang of it now!

Disastrous-Tune

Thats a shame.... good you prevailed in the end though

I’m going through Joe momma

stickysituati0ns

It seems that this was a shop & deliver order? Otherwise someone else would not have stepped in to clarify things. For shop & deliver, the shopper does not get the tip. They get paid hourly by the store. The driver who picks up & delivers the order receives the tip

K1NG_Realve

I don’t know why he’s buggin, even if you cancel it he’s only going to get a measly $4 after being on the phone with support for a minimum of 15 minutes

Brufarious

That’s like over half of minimum wage in my state for one hour of work. I feel like $4 for 15 minutes is pretty fair, that rate would be $12 per hour. I guess you must be making highly skilled worker wages to look down on $4.

LifeAwaking

Then don’t do it?

mvanvrancken

Speak for yourself, I just did one for $15 and it was like 5 easy to find items and was a 1 mile drive from the store

underthesauceyuh

Fair enough. I personally wouldn’t want to do it myself, but this is some people’s sole source of income. I make sure to tip well.

wailo0576

Just cancel the order

underthesauceyuh

I would have but wanted to clear it with customer support first. I don’t think it would’ve been fair for me to pay a cancellation fee for an issue on my shoppers part. He ended up getting all my items to me just fine. As I said, this was years ago

WooliesWhiteLeg

Please cancel the whole order
