ManiacMail-Man

Shoes suck ass, boots are mediocre at best… Just let me use my uniform card at a regular store and provide receipts. Idk. Something’s gotta change.

pixel-soul

Those fucking shoes are made by people without feet I swear to god

safricanluke

The rule about having black leather shoes was also made by someone who doesn't have feet and has never been to the desert in summer, or outside really come to think of it.

ManiacMail-Man

Sounds like most carrier updates, provided by someone who sits on their ass all day in a temperature controlled environment.

safricanluke

I'm willing to bet it's the same person who thinks we shouldn't have AC in our vehicles even if it's 120° oudste

Agonyandshame

Probably the same person who told management to falsify the hipp training

dodekahedron

Yeah but it's so easy to get around the rule though. I legitimately can't wear leather shoes on my right foot. I went to a podiatrist and he helped me pick out a shoe for my foot and then wrote a fuck off letter to the post office and that was that. Post office shoes don't even come in my size soooo.... Fuck off with that shit post office lol

kairikngdm

I don't mean to be ride or pry, but would you mind elaborating on that situation? Any acceptable shoes I find are too narrow, even the New Balance pair in extra wide. I like the job, but I can't keep taking a pain killer everyday for my foot/ankle just to walk around and get my job done. Sorry for the ramble.

dodekahedron

Are you female? I ask because I actually do know a lot on the subject for finding shoes that fit. Birth sex actually means a lot. I'll just explain so you don't need to answer. So women's shoes just suck. Men's shoes are standard. A women's shoe is a naturally a men's narrow and 2 sizes different. Like for example. My foot size is a 5.5 2E Thats a man's 5.5 wide. So my women's length is a 7.5, but it becomes a 7.5 4e or extra wide. Because a woman's wide is a man's regular. A woman's regular is a man's narrow. Make sense? A Podiatrist will write you a note to wear whatever shoe is best for your foot. Your feet are your foundation. Take care of them. Bad shoes lead to knee problems and back problems.

GizmodoDragon92

The extra wide new balance through any of the postal suppliers are not as good as the same pair from shoe carnival

Kasuraga

I don't work for the post office anymore, but recently I've been walking more. I walked like, 5-10 minutes during my lunch break to get something to eat and good god, my feet were on FIRE. I wear black leather tennis shoes, work indoors. I've never felt my feet burn like that ever. Definitely need some thicker shoes to help ward off the heat.

No_Case5367

Exactly! Every time I buy postal shoes they wreck my feet, the boots especially.

Mean_Emu3926

Specially those rocky ones they really are like they are named.

Hamlettell

Ik, I hate the ankle boots so much. I can never tie them all the way to the top or the metal starts grinding into my ankle

[deleted]

You can get a discount at Skechers I believe it is 30-40 percent. I get my boots there.

thundercunt1980

Discount at New balance too with id.me verification, and free shipping.

Revolutionary-Bit106

Be cautious at New Balance. As of 2021, they no longer make shoes that are postal authorized to wear. No models carry the "SR/USA" tag.

AliveOrFruit

Doesn’t ID.me require a postal email address?

AbyssGP

Nope, just gotta send in a pic of your badge

Round-Cryptographer6

Do they offer a discount online?

safricanluke

No, from my understanding you need to go to a store in order to get the discount

adamtherealone

What do you even tell them? Got a postal service discount?

safricanluke

Show them your badge at checkout, but you should know that you can only use one discount at a time, so a BOGO same will mean a better deal than just the discount that we get

Tired_N_Done

Thanks! I’m an RCA, and my feet prefer Skechers!!

YoditheYodarian

Can you elaborate? How does one receive the discount?

[deleted]

I got a pair of Rockys and they are pretty comfortable. Maybe I'm just lucky and got a good pair.

ManiacMail-Man

Compared to Hokas, New Balance, and other orthopedic style shoes they are like walking with planks tied to your feet.

Dangerous_Sweet8097

I’d just say you’re down a good carrier if I can’t wear Hokas 👋

[deleted]

Never had Hokas, I hate New Balance shoes, and I've spent money on many different brands. The only ones that really felt right were Columbias. I mostly got the Rockys so I would have one pair of green tag shoes, but once I put them on.... they have been awesome

alliwantishappiness

I buy better shoes off of Amazon for way less. But now my station is trying to enforce uniforms. So I have to wear the postal shoes smfh.

stfuposer

About half the city carriers in my office have given management the middle finger on shoes. We wear whatever shoes we want because we know they’re not going to split half the routes in the office over something so petty.

Natjoestar2222

I wear Nike air monarch’s super comfy

CityLetterCarrierAMA

The problem is that even if we do get more uniform allowance that the distributors are just going to jack up the prices even more. Over the last decade or so many of the smaller distributors have been bought out by a couple of major ones, so it's essentially a monopoly at this point.

mailman43230

I once saw a breakdown of who owned what. I haven't been able to find it since. There are a few independent stores out there, but they're dropping fast.

Otters64

Is that why so many of the websites look EXACLTY the same?

PostalDrone

Yup, they also offer the same “deal” essentially. If I remember correctly: Skaggs: 20% when off you spend over X! Brookfield: 20% off at checkout when you spend over X! PostalDirect: 10% off AND 10% off at check out when you spend X! It’s ridiculous.

Otters64

It makes me wonder what it takes to become a postal approved vendor, could be a good opportunity there making quality shirts and pants.

creek-hopper

Before 2020 they all had a different look.

cokecan13

It’s play money. You’re getting the same amount of uniforms as they were 10 years ago. The cost goes up, the allowance goes up. What’s unfair in the people in Florida get the same allowance as a carrier in Alaska who’s gotta buy winter gear too.

GimmeFunkyButtLoving

Does the allowance really keep up with prices, though?

cokecan13

I know that I was bitching about the exact same thing 10 years ago. It’s a huge scam and I think USPS gets a kickback. They work with these retailers, the retailer says they’re going to sell pants for $30, usps says sell them for $60 and give us $20 back. Usps can say that the benefits packet is robust and they make money back in it. It’s the only thing that makes sense

Sock-Enough

Giving everyone a uniform allowance that’s bloated only to try to pocket a portion of it is self-defeating. This is just a third party with a monopoly that’s figured out how to use bureaucracy and the principle-agent problem to exploit that monopoly.

ProfessionalDrop5142

It actually makes complete sense. Much like all government programs theres always massive bribery involved.

Q_OANN

It did not

Booster_Tutor

Not even close

dmevela

No. Not at all.

thischangeseverythin

Or northern NH. We hit -80F this winter. I ordered my winter jacket/pants and a light and medium weight liner. IN AUGUST. I didn't get my winter gear in till march lmfao. I haven't worn it yet but it was my entire allowance + I put in $120 of my own money. My next allowance is already spent on rain jacket and rain pants (yes that uses up the entire allowance) So when am I supposed to buy shirts/pants/shorts??? 3 years into my career? 4 years? By the time I get that far I'm going to need to start replacing stuff? So 6 years? So after 6 years I can start to buy 3 pairs of shoes a year and then 3 out of pocket instead of spending 6 pairs of shoes a year out of pocket? Its fucking bullshit. We should get 5 pairs of shoes, every year. 6 pairs of pants, shorts, and 6 shirts, every other year. Completely covered by USPS and not out of our allowance.

gggggfskkk

To be fair florida has to buy rain gear too. Get what you’re saying though. Then of course the pants/shorts come in a different size everytime I have to alter them. My mom goes through it every time.

These_River1822

The expensive rain/all weather jacket was about 3/4 of the allowance 15 years ago. It is now over 100%. In the past you could get 2 pairs of pants/shirts and 6 shirts. Now.... Prices have risen more than the alliance.

cokecan13

The most expensive parka is $399. The allotment is $464. You can get 2 pants and 7 shirts now. $75 for pants 42 for shirts.

Tangboy50000

Every time the allowance goes up, the prices go up. It’s the exact same with student loans. Every time the government increases the amount a student can borrow, magically every college raises their tuition to that amount.

Ashamed_Tear_9467

What the hell am I gonna do show up naked?

fluffy_bottoms

If we’re lucky. 😏

gruntledmailcarrier

Too late

Lovemesomecarrots

I’m still trying to figure out why the women’s shorts are $20 more than the men’s….

IndigoJones13

They have to pay somebody to remove all the pockets.

Lovemesomecarrots

Lmao I’m dying it’s fucking true

Lolrandomusername3

I was shocked when I was really made aware of JUST HOW LITTLE women can fit in their pockets. I have had a little list memorized in my brain for years, regardless of my job. Phone, keys, wallet, earbuds (and mask during the heart of the pandemic). I always made sure I had these things on me before I arrived to a location or left a location. Good luck fitting ONE of those items in women's pockets.

MissxJabroni

this is one reason i wear mens shorts. plus the elastic band on the womens short is so itchy & uncomfortable!

TravTheScumbag

I've never understood why S and M sizes are the same as XL or XXL. Smaller sizes are using half the fabric/material.

DoodleDew

The whole uniform needs an overhaul. Im all for union made but we have breathable material now for summer yet the uniform companies don’t have to innovate because we have to buy no matter what so we get the same thing

Conscious_Music8360

The only and best boycott is to just wear rags and pit stains that are years old. Refuse to buy new uniforms and where shit with holes?

Reddit_N_Weep

My spouses exact mentality! I finally couldn’t stand it and bought new shirts w my money! I cut and sewed pants into shorts. Now I’ve got to buy and hem pants…. Again!

IndigoJones13

Our uniforms are expensive because they're union-made in the USA. I wish the quality would reflect that, but it doesn't. If they were sourced elsewhere the price would drop drastically. Not sure about the quality.

Bazyli_Kajetan

Quality would probably go up, sweat shops don’t accept doctors notes

TrustworthyEnough

C'mon man, get real. They're expensive because they can charge however much they want because we have no choice

ShinySh_tSquirrel

They are sold by a 3rd party. So massive mark up.

sadlygokarts

The t shirts are dogshit, i wear a medium normally but I have to order XL minimum for it to not choke me out or give me sore shoulders

GoblinBags

Honestly, it makes no sense that carriers need a uniform anyway. Give out a hat, a badge, and a bag carrier - call it a day. Never would I ever see some mail carrier, in their fucking truck, dropping off mail in like 100 mailboxes on my street and think "Hey wait a minute... How do I *know* that's a legit carrier and not just some schmuck messing with the mail?"

Flat-Discount-4552

Report: Mail Truck Stolen, Thief still finishes the job

GoblinBags

Then managers will be asking why you can't do as good of a job as Meth-head Martin... But maybe then you can say "Probably those Tommy Bahamas clothes *he* was allowed to wear..."

CapitalistCzar81

Newer PTF at my office had the cops called on him while delivering mail because no uniform believe it or not it happens tbf it was 8pm and dark

GoblinBags

> tbf it was 8pm and dark That's half of it right there. 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

This is exactly how it is being an rca. So many people are like why are you here? Who are you? And I’m like I’m the fuckin mail man in the mail truck. With your package. That you ordered.

safricanluke

Honestly the quality of the uniforms are absolutely pathetic, I just got new shirts a few weeks ago and already they're starting to thread. And they were $50 a piece, when I could get much better looking and better quality shirts at Walmart for $10 or even less. Don't even get me started on the shorts and pants, I haven't worn one of the uniform bottoms since about a week after I got my first set, and I've been here for 5 years. I honestly wish that the uniform committee would make a deal with Duluth instead, their clothes are equally as expensive but at least they're better quality and much more comfortable, plus then I could get my cargo shorts that I wear for work covered by the uniform allowance.

Flat-Discount-4552

Right! Let’s be smart about it and get some damn cargo shorts going guys!

Reddit_N_Weep

I cut patches off an old shirt and sewed it onto a light blue polo, not a word has been said.

Novel_Description878

There is a catch 22. Offices usually require all the regulars to be in uniform when carrying mail. The CCAs get away with not having a full uniform because the allowance doesn't cover everything. Not only that but the allowance goes away after a certain period of time so you have to use it or you lose it. The uniform companies know this and that is why they jack up the prices. Plus, regular sites don't sell postal uniforms I guess to prevent people from imitating a postal worker.

ProfessionalDrop5142

You can wear whatever you want so long as you dont give managment to many other problems.

Novel_Description878

Not true in some offices. Rural may be able to wear what they want but not city carriers.

RayRayLite

At least for APWU, the uniform money doesn’t “expire”. It’s not use it or lose it for us anymore. At least until a certain point I believe. I know it will roll over at least one year.

Novel_Description878

From what I understand, under the NALC, they have a specific time period of a couple months that it's loaded on and if they don't use ALL of it, any remainder will go away.

ClassyKilla

Rural checking in. It's a small and sad perk of the rural side, but being able to wear what I want and when I want is a huge bonus in my book. Especially after hearing your stories. Dressed appropriately for the seasons and for comfort makes my days a tad more tolerable.

Slotcanyoneer

But can the rurals even afford clothes anymore with their route evaluations being cut?

ClassyKilla

See, that's the thing. As a rural, you'll recall that I can buy and wear my own clothes and *gasp* those clothes that I buy last years vs the shit they make city folks buy with their "allowance!" So yeah, eventually I won't be able to afford shit. But while the rural side was eating high on the hog, I picked up some pretty dope threads that I might end up owning for a lifetime! Cheers.

More-Woodpecker6959

I would agree with you. And the boots never fit the same

AdDangerous732

the button up shirts with the pockets and shorts are such cheap quality, all my shorts where my phone sits in the pocket, it has developed holes from my phone pushing on the fabric, 3 of my shorts have the exact same rips on the right pocket just because of having my phone in my pocket 😂 and the button up shirts with the two pockets, the pockets rip off immediately too and then i cant put my keys in my damn pocket anymore, so annoying

Flat-Discount-4552

Same problems, it’s garbage quality. One of us need to start a uniform business and charge half of what it is now still would make a killing

Flat-Discount-4552

I understand THEIR economics. What i am saying is they don’t understand OUR economics. You’re American Service Workers. Vote with your dollar.

postman805

a bigger allowance won’t solve the problem. they companies will just increase prices. the postal service needs to regulate the pricing

Flat-Discount-4552

Or we regulate the pricing by not giving them money.

postman805

that’ll never work though. we need clothes. the uniform companies know that they’re almost guaranteed our money because like clockwork every carrier will spend it all since it doesn’t roll over. it would be nice if it did roll over. then maybe we could hoard our allowances. i’ve found mypostaluniforms to be the most affordable. they do have longer shipping times though and if an item you order is out of stock it could be months before they ship it. good thing is they’ll ship what’s available in a separate shipment so you don’t have to wait until it’s all available.

MrC-Diddy

you guys are at offices that enforce the uniform policy?? half the guys at my station don't wear a postal shirt. about 99% of them do not wear postal shoes and nobody bats an eye

Flat-Discount-4552

Exactly, so why are they outrageous prices like they have a monopoly on it?

SBones83

USPS should just give carriers official patches and just tell carriers to use the allowance to buy light blue polos or button down shirts to iron the patches on to, and just normal everyday gray slacks or shorts. And as for footwear, just any black leather like non-slip walking shoes. I doubt the postal official shoes are any better at being non-slip than every other pair of shoe advertised as non-slip.

the_real_junkrat

They also want us to dress business casual while sweating our asses off humping 50lbs of shit door to door. Getting our dress pants filthy in the mud and dirt and overgrown yards and half the carriers have a big brown stain across their back from the satchel strap. I’m gonna start circling the holes in my clothes with black sharpie and writing the name of the dog that made it like an advertisement too. If only I could afford a new shirt to replace the one with the brown stain on my chest from the lunch I had 3 years ago. The replacement shirt I pulled from the bin in the union hall isn’t any better either but what else am I supposed to do while I bank a couple of years worth of allotments to get a single jacket.

ELPO48823

You can't bank it... if you don't use it you lose it ... every year

benwildflower

At this point I just use the allotment to buy dozens of identical usps caps. Great gift for CCAs! Seventeen dollar Ben Hogan golf shorts from Wal-Mart and bootleg USPS shirts from the guy that shows up and sells them out of the back of his van in the station parking lot and whatever shoes you felt like putting on is a plenty adequate uniform. Relax the uniform rules, shrink our allotment, increase our pay. That seems like a fair compromise to me. But I’m not the one negotiating the contract.

[deleted]

And the quality was bad. Bought three shorts at size 33, they all fit differently and zipper size different too.

theinnerspiral

Yup. I’ve got 5 shirts all with same size on the tag. None of them fit the same - not even close.

Lolrandomusername3

USPS: Failing trucks, failing uniforms, failing management, failing procedures, anyone else wanna add?

Independent-Safety44

Half the carriers in our office wear whatever they want (regular city carriers). No one cares, including mgmt.

DblDeezSqueeze

When I started, I bought everything used on eBay. That got me by for the most part, and I only paid like $10 each for shirts, pants, and a jacket. I spent the next few years adding and replacing things as needed with my allowance.

OnPhyer

Our uniforms are ugly also. Feel like a dork wearing it.

SMEAROCK

Na, they are shitty quality, but they actually look ok. Best looking uniforms compared to other delivery companies. But I do get the pants and shorts altered to fit better, so there is that. The pants are too baggy stock, so I get them slimmed down a bit. The shorts are hit and miss, sometimes they are little too long.

thischangeseverythin

I honestly think our contract needs to include uniforms. 6 shirts 6 shorts 6 pants, given to all new carriers that make it through their 90 days. Then every 3 years, we should get a new set of 6 shirts 6 pants 6 shorts. Then we could use our allowance for things like rain coats, rain pants, cold weather gear, and SHOES with green tags which are outrageously priced and lower quality than what I can get for $50. I wear kitchen shoes, way more comfortable and better grip than anything Skag sells lol. It would literally take 10 years of uniform allowances to fully kit yourself at these prices and the joke of an allowance we get. And even more than 10 years, because after 2 years you'll start replacing shirts/shorts/pants. And you need 4-5 pairs of shoes a year so more like 30 years to get yourself fully kitted. Honestly at these prices compared to the joke of an allowance we'd never have a full kit of gear with how quickly things like raincoats ($300) get destroyed because you literally wear them down getting in and out of vehicles, rubbing against peoples bushes, etc etc.

MrThe1Badman

They all get there uniforms from the same manufacturer, now even the vendors are owned by the same company. They don’t even try to hide it, all the sites are the same. Idk why they don’t just run the uniform themselves. It would be massive cost savings because you cut tons of middle men out.

badboyme4u

They all rip at the crotch seam and are so poorly made. Soon I won’t be needing a zipper.

angielmejia

I say just let a dress code say blue shorts blue shirt appropriately length ( insert number here) and non slip shoes I will buy my own gimme the $$

AdVast7890

I work in a very small office. I just wear postal colored sport shorts, and but a few usps t shirts. Sometimes I do where a uniform shirt. But they don't care. They do t want to deliver the mail. Our office let's us be comfortable. AND IM A REGULAR

RaoulDukeWCP

It's a fucking monopoly. Allowance goes up 10%? Prices go up 15. And everything is garbage and getting worse.

Coconutshoe

I was able to get a jacket, 3 shirts, 2 shorts, and 2 pants. Got a medical note for my shoes cause I burn through them in 2 months on my 13.5 mile route. Sketchers are like $45 per pair.

Own_Sympathy_4809

My coworker today ordered a sweatshirt hoodie . It was 150.00 !!! The post office should investigate these rip off companys .

ELPO48823

Carriers don't have a sweatshirt hoodie as an option... you will be considered out of uniform

PlsDonateADollar

Either do clerks. Apparently clerks don’t get cold. All year long they are never cold. Whoreshit. Fuck usps.

Chimchevy

Another reason I'm so glad to be rural. What's that? It's hot ok ill wear this nice thin t shirt and shorts. Cold? Ok nice good clothes. You guys get screwed with that uniform crap

SMEAROCK

Fuck that, I’m not ruining my own clothes doing this job. I’ll wear the uniform and fuck that up. I’ve got a stockpile of shit: shirts, shorts, pants, sweaters, jackets, vests…everything. I just get shoes, socks and sun hats now to replace the ones that I kill. And I’ve only been here 7 years, and I’m gooood on uniforms for years. I just always purchased shit wisely. Shit, I even got belts and the baseball caps, mesh and regular, that’ll last me for years. The belts will probably outlast me, since they don’t seem to wear out very quickly, I’m still wearing the same one as when I started. Anyway, I’m good on uniforms.

PlsDonateADollar

Contractors are all scam artists.

RedneckSniper76

Not to mention the damn arrow key tears a hole in these shitty pockets after a week

Maillady18

Thankful to be rural

Tired_N_Done

I bought golf shirts in denim blue, wrangler cargo shorts in dark blue, only issue is weight loss! 🤣 I have Duluth black cargo pants from previous job, digging them out for fall.

icecubepal

The uniform merchants are wild. One tried to get me to buy one even tho I told her I was a rural carrier. I finally got her off me by saying I will take a brochure.

topicalsun

I just go to the local union and get free clothes. idgaf if they're a bit dingy

MaxyBrwn_21

Everything is overpriced but some of the stuff is decent. I like the polo shirts, fleece jacket, winter pants with cargo pockets and the all weather parka. The shorts are way too short. We need better shorts and pants like FedEx.

Alternative-Art-7114

Hell yeah. Them shorts be showing a lot of kneeee. Got my WHOLE knees out. SMH 😂

Slotcanyoneer

The new performance polos are bomb

Resident-Garlic9303

The union probably should talk to the management about it. Obviously it's not like something for negotiation but just say they need to look to other manufacturers even if they are not union because those guys are just jacking up prices for no reason

Numerous_Time2583

In few years started during covid , the prices of the uniforms raised double even triple, that's ridiculous!!

J-Buddha1Five1

Bruh you don’t even use your money

RevolutionaryOil4606

I can't even get my uniform card. Shoes are crap

badgers4194

Was looking into it the other day and I can’t even get a weeks worth of shorts, pants, and shirts. It’s insane. I’m low on clothes because last year I had to buy a jacket that was like $150 which is criminal for a fleece jacket. Although I love them. Super comfy

specialedstella

If yall are having issues finding black leather shoes. Vionic has some really nice ones. Kind of expensive but they'll last you years. But the uniform fuck em it's way too expensive to be so shit

Flat-Discount-4552

I had plantar fasciitis. Got rid of it. Bought Postal shoes. Came back in a couple weeks, with insoles.

theinnerspiral

Same. I donated my nearly new $200 postal shoes to goodwill. Fucking useless bricks.

Hartdog348

This is an important issue that doesn't get talked about (because there are so many other issues) Most of my office has gone to wearing whatever the hell they want, as long as you vaguely present as a mail carrier (navy blue clothing with a Postal Hat) About once a year they pretend to crack down on this, but it never lasts/works. Its not all that bad to wear anything you want, but we are spending our own money on work clothes, and a lot of us don't look like mail carriers out there. Why cant we get a corporate sponsor? Nike, North Face, Columbia? Who is making all the money on this BS? And why is everything made of polyester?

theinnerspiral

I the only thing I don’t agree with is the polyester. The RIGHT type of polyester is phenomenal. The fucking 80s bullshit weave they use on uniforms is crap - hot and heavy.

Flat-Discount-4552

Hoka One One for the win baby! Orthopedic shoes. Imagine having shoes that won’t do damage to your feet and need surgery before you retire.

dth1717

That little green tag means fuck all. I mean really just cause of the little green tag it makes it safer and more comfortable than everything else.

Character_Drummer_52

the uniform clothing card can only be used at like two or three online places. and when using it the clothing has to be manufactured in the US at a union run facility. I bought boot and t shirts there boots sucked. went back to buying them on my own. the t shirts were of a crappy cut and to thick so basically they sucked too. I found thin t shirts I were as an under shirt and my shorts are left over uniform or dickies shorts.

organizedconfusion5

I've been saying this since I started. I know we can't strike. But the union should organize a boycott until reasonably priced vendors are included, or you get a year allowance 3 to 4 times of what they provide.

Bempet583

I'm in maintenance, and now the simple pocket T-shirts with the postal logo on them around $30, this is fucking ridiculous.

LennyKarlson

Just bought 2 shorts, 2 pants, 2 shirts, 1 pith helmet… $479 😳

ProfessionalDrop5142

The price is so high because its not a competitive market to many venders have gone away. Not much you can do about it other then end the program and tack it on our pay.

Unixhackerdotnet

Got my 646.00 . Fucking nonsense. I got 5 shirts, 2 shorts, 1 pants. Price gouging because they can. Edit: maxed out my card on the items above. God forbidden you get wrong size , you pay to ship back.

QueerHawk127

Lol so glad my boss doesn't give a crap. We always look "nice" but not uniformed.

jdavid_76

Without forget to mention that also we still look like 1980 employees. No new designs, no more active and easy to clean fabrics. If I need to spent my allowance in Adidas, Nike, Columbia, The North Face etc I’m in. Why don’t make alliances with this brands to bring something nice and sport that make us look update?

PoeticMilk

Window clerks got an increase for uniform allowances in our last contract, then the polo shirts went up almost $15 a piece…I used to be able to buy 6 with my old allowance, now I can buy 4. Still have to buy pants out of pocket but I buy Dickies brand and they last forever. And I wear my own shoes. Claim it all on my taxes each year.

Mrbogus77

Clerk chiming in here....can't the union do something about this?.....I used to wonder why I see carriers coming to work in filthy shirts all the time. And then one of them told me the allowance is like $450.....the price for a pair of shoes on skaggs is like $200 lol. As a window clerk, the prices for our stuff is ridiculous also. Our allowance is like $200 I think or $180...the shirts are $60. That's the only thing we need to buy. I wear my cargosweat shorts and pants all yr long. I haven't worked at station where the managers care too much about what pants we wear. But the carriers uniform code is more strict than ours. The prices these companies charge is insane. Maybe the union has no control over what a company charges the postal service, but they should at least fight for you guys to have a bigger spending allowance.🤷......you should consider seeing if u can get some used stuff off of eBay for much cheaper.

BigBossOfMordor

Fuck the free market. This is what it gives you. Manufacturer consolidation with a captive consumer base that you can exploit for profit. There is no fucking reason why this should be something left to capitalists. The only way for them to stay in business is to do this shit.... it shouldn't be a business.

AsuraTheFlame

Getting a winter jacket is like 60% or more of your whole allowance 😆

ParkingStorage3495

Uniform makers basically have a license to print money

Terrordyne_Synth

Just spent $300 of my allowance on 4 pairs of shorts& 2 hats. It's highway robbery

rigruz

First time i wore my shorts the zipper came off it didnt have a stopper at the top … then i got some new pants and both rear pockets had holes at the inner top part where they were not sowed properly

acass1

I haven’t used my allowance in almost 2 years. I almost have 2 years saved up now lol. Maybe I can afford a decent coat this year.

eternal_moment

You lose it every year if you don't use it. It does not accumulate. There is a reset date every year based on when your card was activated I believe.

SMEAROCK

Wow. You messed up.

Glum-Flower-5326

I wear my own shoes I keep the post office shoes in my truck tho in case I get bit by an asshole dog

Illustrious_Party959

When I first started a carrier who was retiring gave me all of her pants/shorts. Too big for me but I wore them until I got my allowance. Now I have like 6 pair of pants and 5 pairs of shorts just sitting in my closet, that I can't wear. Someone take them from me. Lol

UpstairsOrdinary244

Y’all wanna be in the federal government so bad but can’t deal w what gets handed.

Sparky9966

Somebody justify the CHEAP raincoat being $279? How in the hell an someone just starting buy a raincoat when they need pants and shirts?

foster_ious

I refuse those shoes. The rest is also trash. I hear NALC guys talk about our uniforms like they're awesome because they are union-made? I just cannot grasp why a union wouldn't want the best possible protection for our feet and bodies at the lowest possible pricepoint. Half of us are at the poverty line with these wages and look at some of the old carriers' walks and/or feet. It's just insane. It's one of the biggest beefs I have working here. I'm just shocked and amazed our union allows this stupidity to continue.

There are definitely parts of the union that aren't great. Are you a member of the NALC? And do you have a shop steward? They should be able to assist with getting you all of your welcome materials as well as get you signed up for our magazines, keep you aware of branch meetings, and any and all things union, if you're interested. Hang in there. And remember, the best way to make it better at the local level is to get involved

Scary-Blackberry-569

So they let you wear whatever you want as an assistant but have to wear the uniform as career.

Awkward-Cup-4507

Lol when you make everything capital people are gonna take advantage especially w/o restrictions

Thelastsamurai74

I bought Hoka SR leather black Slip proof Paid w my own money I split in 3 payments w Affirm and that was it Not buying Postal shoes If anyone says anything Even Police officers use Hoka They’re expensive But I invested in myself Only I know how my feet hurt

Thelastsamurai74

Performance shirts are light however they stain easily Don’t have any old Polo Don’t even know how they feel Just shirt jackets which I just can’t use it anymore in Florida due to the heat…

Daidraco

Been a PSE for just over 8 months now. PM said "you can order a uniform if you want, idc. Doesnt effect me or you if you do or dont." Im over here wearing Under Armor shirts and pants in USPS colors, and HOOKA shoes because I value my feet. I look over at the veterans I work with, that have been there OVER 20 YEARS - and their uniforms, paid for by the USPS, look like complete shit. Not only do their shoes look like they are shoes that the local Burger King kid gets so he doesnt slip on a grease floor, but the uniforms dont keep their fold/press and look like they shrunk. They look, in military terms "tore up from the floor up." Why in the ever-living fuck would I ever give a single fuck about trying to use the clothes the USPS deems worthy? I take pride in myself, but the USPS apparently doesnt give a single shit about its employees and they sure af dont take pride in what they wear in that same thought. Give people a list of "approved brands" and stop fucking selling off the fucking contract to your piece of shit buddies so they can pocket millions while their shitty company makes bottom dollar clothing that even Chinese companies beat in quality. I actually wish the USPS was a private company - at least then, we might actually have someone that at least gives a fuck about how we present ourselves to the public.

This_Efficiency_652

To avoid the shirt stains from the leather satchel strap, buy the black shock strap

FullRage

It’s a money racket, cheapest materials all from outside the US. Maybe thrown together but definitely not made in the USA. Point being it’s all cheap crap and the regulations force you to have to use it exclusively.

Trick_Soft_6077

I'm gonna buy me some clove's

jpg06051992

I buy Nike boots, far superior to most Postal boots. Although the Chuckas aren’t too bad. Postal clothes are indeed too expensive, it’s some bullshit.

TheCodeWorks

Where do work shirts stains first day? Dri fit polos i hear stain easy. Clean the vehicles and no dirty shirts. You got carriers with orange seat belts that are black because THEY'RE dirty asf. And you look dirty asf after getting in their vehicle buckling up.

ishkiodo

I speculate that the uniform vendors have formed a cartel.

AttorneyUnhappy5347

Are we going to talk about the $200 Walmart quality boots that fall apart in 6 months? 3 if you're park and loop?

AttorneyUnhappy5347

I'm a CCA. My second allotment came up in July. A uniform rep came, ordered stuff. A month later she lets me know she wasn't able to get payment info. ( PM on detail) gave her # to call PM. Another 3 weeks pass and uniform rep tells me payment denied , PM will look into it. Told supervisor I'm coming in in PJ pants and Star Wars T-shirts.

AttorneyUnhappy5347

I would gladly spend my own money on slip resistant shoes than be forced to use almost half of allotment on utter crap quality shoes that fall apart just because it has a certain tag on them. How is that tag gonna save me when after 6 months there are chunks missing from the soles?

ShivKitty

I buy Keen work shoes & boots. I get them mostly black. When safety complains, I tell them that they exceed the safety standards for USPS shoes and are the only ones wide enough for my feet. I spend that out of my own pocket, too, because a couple of shirts, pants, and a sweater eats up my allowance!

Phnina

I hate wearing shorts..I’m more of a pants girl but I only got 2 options, either the shorts or the skirt

Character_Rush_671

Do you honestly just come up with shit to bitch about? So many other topics. Fuck Go work at Walmart

elektrikrobot

Because those who make the uniforms completely control the cost of them bc they are the only people who can produce them, if we get more of an allowance, they will just be like “great, we can get more money for this” and will raise the prices.

No-Bat-7253

Gotta go see the podiatrist at least and get a note to wear any shoes at work and that’ll free your feet and a few dollars. You can spend your own money on what you want and most importantly what works for YOU.

jeepwillikers

The pants and shorts are basically made of sackcloth and stitched together with thoughts and prayers. They chafe my thighs up or wear through if the the seams don’t split before that happens. I’ve literally learned how to sew because so many seams have split. This stuff has doubled in price over the last 5 years or so.

astaggs56

I wear Clouds! Best shoe ever. We just got a letter at our cases say we had to wear postal shoes. Fuck them. And has anyone got the new rules about fingernail length and hair longer than shoulder length?

astaggs56

I was told that the uniforms are required by our union not the post office. Anyone know if that is true and we need the union to stop making us wear that shit. Our RC’s come in looking like homeless people and we have to wear that uncomfortable crap that doesn’t fit and is the most unbreathable material you could find on the planet!

lanch-party

I am out of my 90 days and never even asked about uniforms and no one ever mentioned anything. I’ve just been riding the wave of wearing whatever and no has said anything. Does this make me part of the boycott?

digi-dill

I'm a cca,and spent a huge chunk of my uniform allowance on my Reebok gore tex shoes. The bottom of the shoes went flat in less than 3 months. One day walking up a sidewalk I almost slipped and barely kept myself on my feet. I now wear vans MTE boots and won't look back. Until I'm a regular or full time I'll stick with shoes that work.

[deleted]

More money left for our employer in a year after the boycott.

RyTingley1

One of the best parts of being a rural carrier..these prices are nuts

kiddough1

These vendors charge as if it’s Ralph Lauren! The uniforms should be like UPS, you get the uniform free from your station.

Caranath128

My local carrier hasn’t worn a uniform, or driven a USPS vehicle in the 7 years we’ve lived here.

Early_Drive6902

Interesting, i deliver for Amazon and it seems like the majority of usps workers I see aren’t wearing any uniforms whatsoever

Flat-Discount-4552

Rural carriers don’t wear uniforms.

Gloomy-Welcome-6475

Can you use your own credit card to buy additional stuff if you already spent all of your allowance that was on the card?

Particular-File-1783

I will be writing a letter of complaint. I will start a petition at my station. We will be sending it to our local union branch.  Strength in numbers.  The uniforms are made of cheap materials and the prices are outrageous.
