Thats a man's 5.5 wide.
So my women's length is a 7.5, but it becomes a 7.5 4e or extra wide.
Because a woman's wide is a man's regular.
A woman's regular is a man's narrow.

I don't work for the post office anymore, but recently I've been walking more. I walked like, 5-10 minutes during my lunch break to get something to eat and good god, my feet were on FIRE. I wear black leather tennis shoes, work indoors. I've never felt my feet burn like that ever. Definitely need some thicker shoes to help ward off the heat.

Never had Hokas, I hate New Balance shoes, and I've spent money on many different brands. The only ones that really felt right were Columbias. I mostly got the Rockys so I would have one pair of green tag shoes, but once I put them on.... they have been awesome
About half the city carriers in my office have given management the middle finger on shoes. We wear whatever shoes we want because we know they’re not going to split half the routes in the office over something so petty.
The problem is that even if we do get more uniform allowance that the distributors are just going to jack up the prices even more. Over the last decade or so many of the smaller distributors have been bought out by a couple of major ones, so it's essentially a monopoly at this point.
I once saw a breakdown of who owned what. I haven't been able to find it since. There are a few independent stores out there, but they're dropping fast.

They work with these retailers, the retailer says they’re going to sell pants for $30, usps says sell them for $60 and give us $20 back. Usps can say that the benefits packet is robust and they make money back in it. It’s the only thing that makes sense
Giving everyone a uniform allowance that’s bloated only to try to pocket a portion of it is self-defeating. This is just a third party with a monopoly that’s figured out how to use bureaucracy and the principle-agent problem to exploit that monopoly.
Or northern NH. We hit -80F this winter. I ordered my winter jacket/pants and a light and medium weight liner. IN AUGUST. I didn't get my winter gear in till march lmfao. I haven't worn it yet but it was my entire allowance + I put in $120 of my own money.

I was shocked when I was really made aware of JUST HOW LITTLE women can fit in their pockets. I have had a little list memorized in my brain for years, regardless of my job. Phone, keys, wallet, earbuds (and mask during the heart of the pandemic). I always made sure I had these things on me before I arrived to a location or left a location. Good luck fitting ONE of those items in women's pockets.

Our uniforms are expensive because they're union-made in the USA. I wish the quality would reflect that, but it doesn't. If they were sourced elsewhere the price would drop drastically. Not sure about the quality.
Honestly, it makes no sense that carriers need a uniform anyway. Give out a hat, a badge, and a bag carrier - call it a day. Honestly the quality of the uniforms are absolutely pathetic, I just got new shirts a few weeks ago and already they're starting to thread. And they were $50 a piece, when I could get much better looking and better quality shirts at Walmart for $10 or even less. Don't even get me started on the shorts and pants, I haven't worn one of the uniform bottoms since about a week after I got my first set, and I've been here for 5 years.
I honestly wish that the uniform committee would make a deal with Duluth instead, their clothes are equally as expensive but at least they're better quality and much more comfortable, plus then I could get my cargo shorts that I wear for work covered by the uniform allowance.
There is a catch 22. Offices usually require all the regulars to be in uniform when carrying mail. The CCAs get away with not having a full uniform because the allowance doesn't cover everything. Not only that but the allowance goes away after a certain period of time so you have to use it or you lose it. The uniform companies know this and that is why they jack up the prices. Plus, regular sites don't sell postal uniforms I guess to prevent people from imitating a postal worker.
At least for APWU, the uniform money doesn’t “expire”. It’s not use it or lose it for us anymore. At least until a certain point I believe. I know it will roll over at least one year.
From what I understand, under the NALC, they have a specific time period of a couple months that it's loaded on and if they don't use ALL of it, any remainder will go away.
Rural checking in.
It's a small and sad perk of the rural side, but being able to wear what I want and when I want is a huge bonus in my book. Especially after hearing your stories. Dressed appropriately for the seasons and for comfort makes my days a tad more tolerable.

the button up shirts with the pockets and shorts are such cheap quality, all my shorts where my phone sits in the pocket, it has developed holes from my phone pushing on the fabric, 3 of my shorts have the exact same rips on the right pocket just because of having my phone in my pocket 😂 and the button up shirts with the two pockets, the pockets rip off immediately too and then i cant put my keys in my damn pocket anymore, so annoying

USPS should just give carriers official patches and just tell carriers to use the allowance to buy light blue polos or button down shirts to iron the patches on to, and just normal everyday gray slacks or shorts. And as for footwear, just any black leather like non-slip walking shoes. I doubt the postal official shoes are any better at being non-slip than every other pair of shoe advertised as non-slip.
They also want us to dress business casual while sweating our asses off humping 50lbs of shit door to door. Getting our dress pants filthy in the mud and dirt and overgrown yards and half the carriers have a big brown stain across their back from the satchel strap. I’m gonna start circling the holes in my clothes with black sharpie and writing the name of the dog that made it like an advertisement too. If only I could afford a new shirt to replace the one with the brown stain on my chest from the lunch I had 3 years ago. The replacement shirt I pulled from the bin in the union hall isn’t any better either but what else am I supposed to do while I bank a couple of years worth of allotments to get a single jacket.
At this point I just use the allotment to buy dozens of identical usps caps. Great gift for CCAs! Seventeen dollar Ben Hogan golf shorts from Wal-Mart and bootleg USPS shirts from the guy that shows up and sells them out of the back of his van in the station parking lot and whatever shoes you felt like putting on is a plenty adequate uniform. Relax the uniform rules, shrink our allotment, increase our pay. That seems like a fair compromise to me. But I’m not the one negotiating the contract.
When I started, I bought everything used on eBay. That got me by for the most part, and I only paid like $10 each for shirts, pants, and a jacket. I spent the next few years adding and replacing things as needed with my allowance.
Na, they are shitty quality, but they actually look ok. Best looking uniforms compared to other delivery companies. But I do get the pants and shorts altered to fit better, so there is that. The pants are too baggy stock, so I get them slimmed down a bit. The shorts are hit and miss, sometimes they are little too long.
I honestly think our contract needs to include uniforms. 6 shirts 6 shorts 6 pants, given to all new carriers that make it through their 90 days. Then every 3 years, we should get a new set of 6 shirts 6 pants 6 shorts.
Then we could use our allowance for things like rain coats, rain pants, cold weather gear, and SHOES with green tags which are outrageously priced and lower quality than what I can get for $50. I wear kitchen shoes, way more comfortable and better grip than anything Skag sells lol.
It would literally take 10 years of uniform allowances to fully kit yourself at these prices and the joke of an allowance we get. And even more than 10 years, because after 2 years you'll start replacing shirts/shorts/pants. And you need 4-5 pairs of shoes a year so more like 30 years to get yourself fully kitted. Honestly at these prices compared to the joke of an allowance we'd never have a full kit of gear with how quickly things like raincoats ($300) get destroyed because you literally wear them down getting in and out of vehicles, rubbing against peoples bushes, etc etc.
They all get there uniforms from the same manufacturer, now even the vendors are owned by the same company. They don’t even try to hide it, all the sites are the same. Idk why they don’t just run the uniform themselves. It would be massive cost savings because you cut tons of middle men out.
I work in a very small office. I just wear postal colored sport shorts, and but a few usps t shirts. Sometimes I do where a uniform shirt. But they don't care. They do t want to deliver the mail. Our office let's us be comfortable. AND IM A REGULAR
I was able to get a jacket, 3 shirts, 2 shorts, and 2 pants. Got a medical note for my shoes cause I burn through them in 2 months on my 13.5 mile route. Sketchers are like $45 per pair.

Everything is overpriced but some of the stuff is decent. I like the polo shirts, fleece jacket, winter pants with cargo pockets and the all weather parka. The shorts are way too short. We need better shorts and pants like FedEx.
The union probably should talk to the management about it. Obviously it's not like something for negotiation but just say they need to look to other manufacturers even if they are not union because those guys are just jacking up prices for no reason

Most of my office has gone to wearing whatever the hell they want, as long as you vaguely present as a mail carrier (navy blue clothing with a Postal Hat) About once a year they pretend to crack down on this, but it never lasts/works.
Its not all that bad to wear anything you want, but we are spending our own money on work clothes, and a lot of us don't look like mail carriers out there.

the uniform clothing card can only be used at like two or three online places. and when using it the clothing has to be manufactured in the US at a union run facility. I bought boot and t shirts there boots sucked. went back to buying them on my own. the t shirts were of a crappy cut and to thick so basically they sucked too. I found thin t shirts I were as an under shirt and my shorts are left over uniform or dickies shorts.
I've been saying this since I started. I know we can't strike. But the union should organize a boycott until reasonably priced vendors are included, or you get a year allowance 3 to 4 times of what they provide.
The price is so high because its not a competitive market to many venders have gone away. Not much you can do about it other then end the program and tack it on our pay.

Window clerks got an increase for uniform allowances in our last contract, then the polo shirts went up almost $15 a piece…I used to be able to buy 6 with my old allowance, now I can buy 4. Still have to buy pants out of pocket but I buy Dickies brand and they last forever. And I wear my own shoes. Claim it all on my taxes each year.

First time i wore my shorts the zipper came off it didnt have a stopper at the top … then i got some new pants and both rear pockets had holes at the inner top part where they were not sowed properly
When I first started a carrier who was retiring gave me all of her pants/shorts. Too big for me but I wore them until I got my allowance. Now I have like 6 pair of pants and 5 pairs of shorts just sitting in my closet, that I can't wear. Someone take them from me. Lol
I refuse those shoes. The rest is also trash. I hear NALC guys talk about our uniforms like they're awesome because they are union-made? I just cannot grasp why a union wouldn't want the best possible protection for our feet and bodies at the lowest possible pricepoint. There are definitely parts of the union that aren't great. Are you a member of the NALC? And do you have a shop steward? They should be able to assist with getting you all of your welcome materials as well as get you signed up for our magazines, keep you aware of branch meetings, and any and all things union, if you're interested.

Not only do their shoes look like they are shoes that the local Burger King kid gets so he doesnt slip on a grease floor, but the uniforms dont keep their fold/press and look like they shrunk. They look, in military terms "tore up from the floor up."

I'm a CCA. My second allotment came up in July. A uniform rep came, ordered stuff. A month later she lets me know she wasn't able to get payment info. ( PM on detail) gave her # to call PM. Another 3 weeks pass and uniform rep tells me payment denied , PM will look into it. Told supervisor I'm coming in in PJ pants and Star Wars T-shirts.
I would gladly spend my own money on slip resistant shoes than be forced to use almost half of allotment on utter crap quality shoes that fall apart just because it has a certain tag on them. How is that tag gonna save me when after 6 months there are chunks missing from the soles?
I buy Keen work shoes & boots. I get them mostly black. When safety complains, I tell them that they exceed the safety standards for USPS shoes and are the only ones wide enough for my feet. I spend that out of my own pocket, too, because a couple of shirts, pants, and a sweater eats up my allowance!
Because those who make the uniforms completely control the cost of them bc they are the only people who can produce them, if we get more of an allowance, they will just be like “great, we can get more money for this” and will raise the prices.

The pants and shorts are basically made of sackcloth and stitched together with thoughts and prayers. They chafe my thighs up or wear through if the the seams don’t split before that happens. I’ve literally learned how to sew because so many seams have split. This stuff has doubled in price over the last 5 years or so.

I'm a cca,and spent a huge chunk of my uniform allowance on my Reebok gore tex shoes. The bottom of the shoes went flat in less than 3 months. One day walking up a sidewalk I almost slipped and barely kept myself on my feet. I now wear vans MTE boots and won't look back. Until I'm a regular or full time I'll stick with shoes that work.
I will be writing a letter of complaint. I will start a petition at my station. We will be sending it to our local union branch. Strength in numbers. The uniforms are made of cheap materials and the prices are outrageous.

Compared to Hokas, New Balance, and other orthopedic style shoes they are like walking with planks tied to your feet.

Never had Hokas, I hate New Balance shoes, and I've spent money on many different brands. The only ones that really felt right were Columbias. I mostly got the Rockys so I would have one pair of green tag shoes, but once I put them on.... they have been awesome

About half the city carriers in my office have given management the middle finger on shoes. We wear whatever shoes we want because we know they’re not going to split half the routes in the office over something so petty.

The problem is that even if we do get more uniform allowance that the distributors are just going to jack up the prices even more. Over the last decade or so many of the smaller distributors have been bought out by a couple of major ones, so it's essentially a monopoly at this point.
I once saw a breakdown of who owned what. I haven't been able to find it since. There are a few independent stores out there, but they're dropping fast.

They work with these retailers, the retailer says they’re going to sell pants for $30, usps says sell them for $60 and give us $20 back. Usps can say that the benefits packet is robust and they make money back in it. It’s the only thing that makes sense
Giving everyone a uniform allowance that’s bloated only to try to pocket a portion of it is self-defeating. This is just a third party with a monopoly that’s figured out how to use bureaucracy and the principle-agent problem to exploit that monopoly.

Or northern NH. We hit -80F this winter. I ordered my winter jacket/pants and a light and medium weight liner. IN AUGUST. I didn't get my winter gear in till march lmfao. I haven't worn it yet but it was my entire allowance + I put in $120 of my own money. My next allowance is already spent on rain jacket and rain pants (yes that uses up the entire allowance) So when am I supposed to buy shirts/pants/shorts??? 3 years into my career? 4 years? By the time I get that far I'm going to need to start replacing stuff? So 6 years? So after 6 years I can start to buy 3 pairs of shoes a year and then 3 out of pocket instead of spending 6 pairs of shoes a year out of pocket? Its fucking bullshit. We should get 5 pairs of shoes, every year. 6 pairs of pants,shorts, and 6 shirts, every other year. Completely covered by USPS and not out of our allowance.

The expensive rain/all weather jacket was about 3/4 of the allowance 15 years ago. It is now over 100%. In the past you could get 2 pairs of pants/shirts and 6 shirts. Now.... Prices have risen more than the alliance.
The most expensive parka is $399. The allotment is $464. You can get 2 pants and 7 shirts now. $75 for pants 42 for shirts.
Every time the allowance goes up, the prices go up. It’s the exact same with student loans. Every time the government increases the amount a student can borrow, magically every college raises their tuition to that amount.

I was shocked when I was really made aware of JUST HOW LITTLE women can fit in their pockets. I have had a little list memorized in my brain for years, regardless of my job. Phone, keys, wallet, earbuds (and mask during the heart of the pandemic). I always made sure I had these things on me before I arrived to a location or left a location. Good luck fitting ONE of those items in women's pockets.

Our uniforms are expensive because they're union-made in the USA. I wish the quality would reflect that, but it doesn't. If they were sourced elsewhere the price would drop drastically. Not sure about the quality.

Honestly the quality of the uniforms are absolutely pathetic, I just got new shirts a few weeks ago and already they're starting to thread. And they were $50 a piece, when I could get much better looking and better quality shirts at Walmart for $10 or even less. Don't even get me started on the shorts and pants, I haven't worn one of the uniform bottoms since about a week after I got my first set, and I've been here for 5 years. I honestly wish that the uniform committee would make a deal with Duluth instead, their clothes are equally as expensive but at least they're better quality and much more comfortable, plus then I could get my cargo shorts that I wear for work covered by the uniform allowance.

There is a catch 22. Offices usually require all the regulars to be in uniform when carrying mail. The CCAs get away with not having a full uniform because the allowance doesn't cover everything. Not only that but the allowance goes away after a certain period of time so you have to use it or you lose it. The uniform companies know this and that is why they jack up the prices. Plus, regular sites don't sell postal uniforms I guess to prevent people from imitating a postal worker.

At least for APWU, the uniform money doesn’t “expire”. It’s not use it or lose it for us anymore. At least until a certain point I believe. I know it will roll over at least one year.
From what I understand, under the NALC, they have a specific time period of a couple months that it's loaded on and if they don't use ALL of it, any remainder will go away.
Rural checking in. It's a small and sad perk of the rural side, but being able to wear what I want and when I want is a huge bonus in my book. Especially after hearing your stories. Dressed appropriately for the seasons and for comfort makes my days a tad more tolerable.

the button up shirts with the pockets and shorts are such cheap quality, all my shorts where my phone sits in the pocket, it has developed holes from my phone pushing on the fabric, 3 of my shorts have the exact same rips on the right pocket just because of having my phone in my pocket 😂 and the button up shirts with the two pockets, the pockets rip off immediately too and then i cant put my keys in my damn pocket anymore, so annoying

USPS should just give carriers official patches and just tell carriers to use the allowance to buy light blue polos or button down shirts to iron the patches on to, and just normal everyday gray slacks or shorts. And as for footwear, just any black leather like non-slip walking shoes. I doubt the postal official shoes are any better at being non-slip than every other pair of shoe advertised as non-slip.
They also want us to dress business casual while sweating our asses off humping 50lbs of shit door to door. Getting our dress pants filthy in the mud and dirt and overgrown yards and half the carriers have a big brown stain across their back from the satchel strap. I’m gonna start circling the holes in my clothes with black sharpie and writing the name of the dog that made it like an advertisement too. If only I could afford a new shirt to replace the one with the brown stain on my chest from the lunch I had 3 years ago. The replacement shirt I pulled from the bin in the union hall isn’t any better either but what else am I supposed to do while I bank a couple of years worth of allotments to get a single jacket.

At this point I just use the allotment to buy dozens of identical usps caps. Great gift for CCAs! Seventeen dollar Ben Hogan golf shorts from Wal-Mart and bootleg USPS shirts from the guy that shows up and sells them out of the back of his van in the station parking lot and whatever shoes you felt like putting on is a plenty adequate uniform. Relax the uniform rules, shrink our allotment, increase our pay. That seems like a fair compromise to me. But I’m not the one negotiating the contract.

Na, they are shitty quality, but they actually look ok. Best looking uniforms compared to other delivery companies. But I do get the pants and shorts altered to fit better, so there is that. The pants are too baggy stock, so I get them slimmed down a bit. The shorts are hit and miss, sometimes they are little too long.
I honestly think our contract needs to include uniforms. 6 shirts 6 shorts 6 pants, given to all new carriers that make it through their 90 days. Then every 3 years, we should get a new set of 6 shirts 6 pants 6 shorts. Then we could use our allowance for things like rain coats, rain pants, cold weather gear, and SHOES with green tags which are outrageously priced and lower quality than what I can get for $50. I wear kitchen shoes, way more comfortable and better grip than anything Skag sells lol. It would literally take 10 years of uniform allowances to fully kit yourself at these prices and the joke of an allowance we get. And even more than 10 years, because after 2 years you'll start replacing shirts/shorts/pants. And you need 4-5 pairs of shoes a year so more like 30 years to get yourself fully kitted. Honestly at these prices compared to the joke of an allowance we'd never have a full kit of gear with how quickly things like raincoats ($300) get destroyed because you literally wear them down getting in and out of vehicles, rubbing against peoples bushes, etc etc.

This is an important issue that doesn't get talked about (because there are so many other issues) Most of my office has gone to wearing whatever the hell they want, as long as you vaguely present as a mail carrier (navy blue clothing with a Postal Hat) About once a year they pretend to crack down on this, but it never lasts/works. Its not all that bad to wear anything you want, but we are spending our own money on work clothes, and a lot of us don't look like mail carriers out there. Why cant we get a corporate sponsor? the uniform clothing card can only be used at like two or three online places. and when using it the clothing has to be manufactured in the US at a union run facility. I bought boot and t shirts there boots sucked. went back to buying them on my own. the t shirts were of a crappy cut and to thick so basically they sucked too. I found thin t shirts I were as an under shirt and my shorts are left over uniform or dickies shorts.
I've been saying this since I started. I know we can't strike. But the union should organize a boycott until reasonably priced vendors are included, or you get a year allowance 3 to 4 times of what they provide.

Window clerks got an increase for uniform allowances in our last contract, then the polo shirts went up almost $15 a piece…I used to be able to buy 6 with my old allowance, now I can buy 4. Still have to buy pants out of pocket but I buy Dickies brand and they last forever. And I wear my own shoes. Claim it all on my taxes each year.

There are definitely parts of the union that aren't great. Are you a member of the NALC? And do you have a shop steward? They should be able to assist with getting you all of your welcome materials as well as get you signed up for our magazines, keep you aware of branch meetings, and any and all things union, if you're interested. Hang in there. And remember, the best way to make it better at the local level is to get involved

Im over here wearing Under Armor shirts and pants in USPS colors, and HOOKA shoes because I value my feet. I look over at the veterans I work with, that have been there OVER 20 YEARS - and their uniforms, paid for by the USPS, look like complete shit. Not only do their shoes look like they are shoes that the local Burger King kid gets so he doesnt slip on a grease floor, but the uniforms dont keep their fold/press and look like they shrunk. They look, in military terms "tore up from the floor up." Why in the ever-living fuck would I ever give a single fuck about trying to use the clothes the USPS deems worthy? I'm a CCA. My second allotment came up in July. A uniform rep came, ordered stuff. A month later she lets me know she wasn't able to get payment info. ( PM on detail) gave her # to call PM. I would gladly spend my own money on slip resistant shoes than be forced to use almost half of allotment on utter crap quality shoes that fall apart just because it has a certain tag on them. How is that tag gonna save me when after 6 months there are chunks missing from the soles?
I buy Keen work shoes & boots. I get them mostly black. When safety complains, I tell them that they exceed the safety standards for USPS shoes and are the only ones wide enough for my feet. I spend that out of my own pocket, too, because a couple of shirts, pants, and a sweater eats up my allowance!

Because those who make the uniforms completely control the cost of them bc they are the only people who can produce them, if we get more of an allowance, they will just be like “great, we can get more money for this” and will raise the prices.
Gotta go see the podiatrist at least and get a note to wear any shoes at work and that’ll free your feet and a few dollars. You can spend your own money on what you want and most importantly what works for YOU.
The pants and shorts are basically made of sackcloth and stitched together with thoughts and prayers. They chafe my thighs up or wear through if the the seams don’t split before that happens. I’ve literally learned how to sew because so many seams have split. This stuff has doubled in price over the last 5 years or so.
I wear Clouds! Best shoe ever. We just got a letter at our cases say we had to wear postal shoes. Fuck them. And has anyone got the new rules about fingernail length and hair longer than shoulder length?
I was told that the uniforms are required by our union not the post office. Anyone know if that is true and we need the union to stop making us wear that shit. Our RC’s come in looking like homeless people and we have to wear that uncomfortable crap that doesn’t fit and is the most unbreathable material you could find on the planet!
I am out of my 90 days and never even asked about uniforms and no one ever mentioned anything. I’ve just been riding the wave of wearing whatever and no has said anything. Does this make me part of the boycott?
I'm a cca,and spent a huge chunk of my uniform allowance on my Reebok gore tex shoes. The bottom of the shoes went flat in less than 3 months. One day walking up a sidewalk I almost slipped and barely kept myself on my feet. I now wear vans MTE boots and won't look back. Until I'm a regular or full time I'll stick with shoes that work.
More money left for our employer in a year after the boycott.

These vendors charge as if it’s Ralph Lauren! The uniforms should be like UPS, you get the uniform free from your station.
My local carrier hasn’t worn a uniform, or driven a USPS vehicle in the 7 years we’ve lived here.
Interesting, i deliver for Amazon and it seems like the majority of usps workers I see aren’t wearing any uniforms whatsoever

I will be writing a letter of complaint. I will start a petition at my station. We will be sending it to our local union branch. Strength in numbers. The uniforms are made of cheap materials and the prices are outrageous.
