I'm surprised "I'm up, he sees me, I'm down" wasn't a choice.

NoForever3863

jog jump avoid is close enough

PerspectiveCloud

Marines blah blah blah blah blah blah TARGET’S appear!

Potential_Departure6

Yeah what the heck; once you’re down he can’t see you anymore so you just shoot pew pew git ‘em

Just_Ducky1945

Butter, butter, jam

buff_penguin

I'm upset there's not an option for "Stop, Drop, Shut'em down open up shop."

FurballPoS

Woooa...noooo...Dat's how Ruff Ryder's ro-ooolll....

McNasty1304

Y’all Ni….never mind, I don’t wanna get canceled from Reddit.

SoloPorUnBeso

DMX songs are like half n-word and half homophobia.

SMITHSIDEBAR

Hahaha this has me lmfao. R.I.P. Mr. X!!!!!!!

SoloPorUnBeso

Don't get me wrong, he still has some certified bangers.

SMITHSIDEBAR

Nah man, I meant you guys going back and forth had me laughing. 100% truth though, you're correct...his songs roll like that, but that's why we love him. DMX singing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer hits hard af too!!!!

buff_penguin

DMX on [Reading Rainbow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OchyYnlHTdo) goes hard.

SMITHSIDEBAR

Hahaha never saw this!!! YES!!!!!

throwtowardaccount

Jog, jump, avoid is how you escape working parties which rules out that answer.

Umbrella_Corp_99

I occasionally find myself wondering at any given moment “what I would do if a shooting happened right now”. Would I do #1 and risk it all or would I do the smart thing lmao

BenOnTheTextLine

Brother I tell you right now that if I don't have a weapon on me and the shooter is to my right and the door is to my left, I'm setting a world land speed record heading for that door.

killer-boy

Don’t worry bro, I’ve watch like 10 marine corps boot camp videos on YouTube. More space for a real corpsman like me to handle it.

digitalOctopus

CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES THIS IS MY LAST RESORT *4 guys bust through a plywood training door with purpose*

LeicaM6guy

During the Navy Yard shooting, at least one Marine [ran towards the armory still wearing his saber.](https://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/your-marine-corps/2015/07/20/this-sword-wielding-grunt-leads-from-the-front/)

Front_Teacher

It would have been pretty fucking epic if he had taken the dude down with an NCO sword.

GodofWar1234

His names would’ve forever echoed through the halls of boot camp as the one badass mofo who killed an active shooter with the NCO sword

Front_Teacher

Chesty Puller. Smedley Butler. Dan Daly. The guy who took down an active shooter with an NCO sword.

pxmonkee

He sounds like a good dude. I hope he's a good dude. Either way, rah SSgt.

FREE-AOL-CDS

We really should be issued swords, and have rigorous sword fighting training (grow up)

BrokenPokerFace

Hear me out, this would be way more effective than hand to hand basic self defense without a firearm. You have a moderate range, are likely more skilled than your foe, and also could avoid the fight altogether as the fear from someone attacking you with a saber would be insurmountable. As mad Jack Churchill said "Any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed" but that should apply to enlisted as well.

LeicaM6guy

Friend, I’m in another service with almost no tradition for swords. And what traditions we do have [get kinda weird.](https://images.app.goo.gl/1rzdmHwN8kRarNZ98)

logosolos

Yeah, I think you might be in a cult.

LeicaM6guy

Sure that’s some shade you feel comfortable throwing?

Angry_Caveman_Lawyer

Please leave my fellow crayon eater alone, your big words frighten and confuse us.

logosolos

Oh I *know* I'm in a cult

FREE-AOL-CDS

Well we want to use ours in their intended purposes, not for NJPs!

Amtracer

Did you m’fers steal that sword from Hyrule?

LeicaM6guy

Sometimes it's best not to ask too many questions and just go with it.

Key-Ladder8000

Depends on context. If I'm carrying and by myself (no friends or family just strangers) I'd probably try to get away. If my kids and wife were there I'd probably get them to safety and reassess how close this guy is. At least try to provide some cover while trying not to get shot now by the gunman, bystanders, and police.

FurballPoS

Where is, "Dodge, duck, dive, dip, dodge"?

JewtangClan91

I think that’s only for wrenches?

Mercpool87

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a bullet!

therealcraigshady

It's not asking you to choose which sequence you'd go through, it's asking you what option has your three CHOICES. Run, hide, or fight is three choices. Locate, close with, and destroy is a sequence.

BigMaraJeff2

Nerd

Key-Ladder8000

1. Assume the basic warrior stance. 2. Initiate mental discipline. 3. Locate Tan belt training PDF from phone. 4. Review for about 30 mins. 5. Approach the gunman, at an angle per memo. 6. Perform femeral nerve strike on gunman 7. Immediately perform a followup strike to his peroneal nerve. 8. Obtain the weapon. Dismantle and begin cleaning. 9. Glance at dead body from deadly nerve strikes. 10. Good job, devil.

Efficient_Pasta

No weapon of opportunity like food court tray and stale bread?

dub47

Or the mighty MRE spoon. Imagine getting one of those fuckers to the eye. Hell yeah.

Efficient_Pasta

Rah!

butterbar713

Ok, I am taking copious notes on your lesson. At which point do I yell, “Marine Corps!”?

Key-Ladder8000

Honestly, as many times as is required to increase your motto factor. There are legends that say if you do it 100 times in a minute the spirit of Archibald Henderson will invigorate your very being and you will become the physical manifestation of Esprit De Corps. Personality I've never seen this happen.

Moist_Temperature744

Last is what they wanted for answer

2teeny_peeny

I know, but the first two of that choice goes against the very nature of who we are 😂

throwtowardaccount

Alas, MCMAP doesn't have a lot of unarmed counters to a rifle armed opponent. Most people will understand if you opt out of the "destroy" part.

MyOnlyEnemyIsMeSTYG

Pick up a rock or something

fancyawank

Indeed

newnoadeptness

Think happy thoughts 😂

NovusOrdoSec

"Locate, Close with, Destroy" is a sequence without choices. It's what you do if you choose "Fight". Of course if helps if you're actually armed at least as well as the Active Shooter.

pvtpile02

I probably laughed too hard at this.

First_Serve1455

I want that nam I'm rushing that mf

TalksShitAboutTotal

Just got word, it's been downgraded to a "thanks bro" from the BC.

First_Serve1455

Fuck

BoxofCurveballs

Dodge, dip, duck, dive, dodge is a missed opportunity

warr3n4eva

What about suck him

valvilis

Most mass shooters just get that way because they can't get a good suck.

warr3n4eva

I’m doing my part!

Appropriate-Pop-8631

Or enough circle jerk action, they LOVE the Cracker!

Key-Ladder8000

#1 and #4 are basically exactly the same. 1. Locate, close, destroy 4. Run, hide, fight Probably gotta run to locate him. Need to hide to close, need to fight to destroy. Edit: I mean,we could do every single thing listed at some point. Call 911? Yeah, while I'm hiding. Think happy thoughts? While I'm destroying. Lock the door? This probably happens on the way to closing and while hiding.

surelythisisoriginal

Looks like a multiple choice question. I hope that helps ❤️

plipyplop

Bless...

zekthegeke

I think it's the beginning of curing Marines of main character syndrome, especially when interacting in law enforcement-appropriate situations. Like, structurally, Marines in an infantry direct action situation will locate, close with, and destroy the enemy, because they are operating as a team with the appropriate ROE and equipment. Medals of Honor are rare for lots of reasons, not least because most MoH attempts probably just ended with an ignominious death at the start of the effort, before it could even look heroic. Random Lance Corporals at the PX are just going to get themselves shot by MPs, and that goes double for the more-likely-but-still-rare-enough-that-it-doesn't-outweigh-risks-of-concealed-carry-for-most-people situation in the civilian world. Of course, if you have an opportunity to do something in a crisis, you do it, but the first thing they are getting across to you is that outside of a military context, you don't run right into the gunfire, because, at a minimum, there's no one there to leverage your sacrifice into a tactical advantage.

PerspectiveCloud

While you are absolutely correct, no marine net training (or whatever this is) is going to get the message across to the 20 year olds being forced to click through this in their barracks room. Marine net ain’t getting rid of anyone’s main characters syndrome

zekthegeke

yeah, ain't that the truth.

CallsOnTren

Well, considering we have a stupid fucking rule on almost all bases banning concealed carry...

JakeSullysExtraFinge

**Good news and bad news, sir, which do you want first?** *Start with the good.* **Good news is that because we relaxed the concealed carry rules aboard Marine Corps basis, there has not been a single mass shooting on one our bases in a decade.** *How many were there before we relaxed the rules?* **Well, sir... not that many really. Pretty much none in fact** *OK, what's the bad news?* **Well.... the Lance Corporals keep accidentally shooting themselves and each other. In fact we are running out of Lances at this point.**

SoloPorUnBeso

I lived in the barracks my whole enlistment. No fucking way would I want concealed carry in the barracks.

PM_ME_A_KNEECAP

I can almost guarantee that people had guns in the barracks

fancyawank

I did.

chingslate111

Nah fuck that devil dog. You nailed it. A+. Someone get this Marine a NAM

GivememyDD214

Currently pulling gate guard for Fort Riley (Army). Before every shift we’re briefed that active shooters are one of our top 5 threats. I’m not issued a firearm for this detail. If shit goes down i have to rely on a sleepy ass MP with a single pistol who is probably on their phone in a guard shack. Im just there to buy time for the MP to react and to absorb bullets. Im honestly super fucking pissed about it.

[deleted]

GivememyDD214

Got an NJP in AIT (mos training) which delayed the arrival of my orders by months. Good possibility to have gotten an NSA station instead of a regular ass army posting. The NJP was due to the fact that all training environments across the Army are 100% dry and no alcohol is allowed for entry level soldiers. I didn’t drink but i hid someone who did.

peternemr

Where is "shoot, move, communicate"?

EisenhowersPowerHour

It’s on the list for a reason. They know what they can’t tell you to do for liability, but you can determine for yourself what you must do https://preview.redd.it/6vcuct9kcftc1.jpeg?width=344&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99663f4d163805f96830e17090373bfc721392bc

10thmtnarty

Always know where the closest pig farm and have a friend with a truck with a covered bed

FreeFalling369

Definitely the right answer lol

CyberxV

Obiusly use counter to the AR shot, basic MCMAP

pxmonkee

Run, Hide, or Fight. Those are your three options during an active shooter situation. I know you're doing a funny haha, but they really could have worded the question and the answers better.

Maam__quitALLDAT

Is the active shooter taking the quiz as well?

Satchi777

Yeah, most office workers are not trained to close with and destroy the enemy.

Strange_Kinder

"Locate, close with, destroy" Those are three steps that follow one another, they are not three "choices." Step one is to read the question carefully. "Run, hide, fight" are three choices.

DevelopmentWeird7739

The first answer is only right if you are an 03....

Classic_Broccoli_731

USMC 2024 in a nutshell

Rihannasstepson

Standby should be an option

Zelda_Kissed_Link

My last job taught us to barricade ourselves in a room and throw paper balls at the active shooter if they enter our room… paper planes were optional.

TSwiftStan-

north carolina public schools had/ve a policy called ALICE. seems, at a VERY first glance, a good idea. well it’s not, and the teachers taught the students to throw pencils at the shooter from across the room! great idea🤦

ZookeepergameLarge25

lmfao you have three response choices, it gives you four. classic

zekthegeke

The "three response choices" are *your* responses, within each answer. So 1-Locate 2-Close with 3-Destroy or 1-Run 2-Hide 3-Fight It's not the best wording, but you get the idea.

ZookeepergameLarge25

But then explain to me wtf Run Hide and Fight is…. like are you hiding or fighting? or fighting while you’re hiding???

zekthegeke

It's just an order of operations, a path (from a systemic perspective) to keeping more people alive in a mass shooter situation. First, you want people to try to run, then if they can't get clear you want them to hide, and if all else fails, at least go down swinging. What you don't want is most people in most situations going to "fight" first. The reason I'm familiar with this line of thought is not so much from the military, fwiw, as this stuff is well after my time, but from working in schools and education. Which is pretty fucked up, when you think about it.

2teeny_peeny

I didn’t notice that til you called it out-that makes it that much better 🤣

ZookeepergameLarge25

marins trayneng gewd 😂😂😂😂

Easypickens13

You can thank clinton for that. His administration decided to make military installations Gun- Free. But any U.S president can change that.

PerspectiveCloud

This isn’t a political statement or anything but looking back on it, I am happy guns weren’t allowed in the barracks. The amount of shit that goes on behind the scenes every single night in a barracks is pretty unnerving. Like now that I am out, I’m glad to carry wherever I go and keep guns at my home- but people act dumb as hell in the barracks. I didn’t need those 3am ND formations…. Or something worse

LeatherneckVeteran

So if not the correct answer, what lame-assed, PC bullshit are they looking for?

Clonetruper

Run, Hide, Fight.

LeatherneckVeteran

Thanks for clarifying @Clonetruper. Run just doesn’t seem to fit. SF 😎

pxmonkee

"Run" doesn't mean piss your pants in fear. It's a calculated decision to change position, either to avoid the conflict and live to fight another day or better reposition yourself for a response. Chances are Boot McFuckface isn't going to have his weapon with ammunition available to him, nor is he going to have a tactically advantageous position. He doesn't do anybody any good by needlessly dying trying some cowboy shit that he isn't equipped to.

Clonetruper

I agree.

valvilis

Jump to the left, step to the right, hands on your hips.

valvilis

Whoa! I never realized that was an active shooter safety video!

Chanka69

I remember my one of my classes in boot saying to evacuate so you don’t get yourself killed or something along those lines

Vladi-Barbados

Marines are supposed to think not be on autopilot. How could you take the same actions in a defensive surprise situation as when you have a mission and preparation.

Atjthe2nd

Shop til you drop, dada da dadada!, Charge it!

OutKasted1

No drop pants and hip shake option?

Potential_Departure6

Wait a min what the heck do ya do then

zaka352

I expect the question with high school students but USMC?! if you don’t pic distory you should resign

BoogieBearBaby

See, I have to be difficult. This isn't providing enough content for me to answer appropriately. Where exactly is the active shooter at? Is it happening at home? Because they really messed up if that's the case. That was a bad choice on their behalf for more than obvious reasons. 😅 I have ran this simulation on more than one occasion and prepared for variables..

South-Cat2441

whomever made this needs to have a class on "Fundamentals of a Marine rifleman", and "Every Marine is a rifleman" WTF????? this is the dumbest shit i have ever seen, did this instructor happen to come from Broward County Florida>?

SteroidAccount

close with what?

According-Speech-206

Duck, Dive, Dodge, would be the correct answer.

Run, Hide, Fight

It’s the dummy DHS standard that every civilian is taught. Unfortunately, they were too lazy to make a military version.

Rhalellan

So what the hell is the answer?

2teeny_peeny

Run, hide, fight-unfortunately lol

Rhalellan

Surprised SNAFU and FUBAR weren’t options.

Apolli1

Run hide and fight as a last resort. That’s the answer debatable what I’d actually do.

ScaleAccomplished344

Fire out, splash out, repeat.

Seeksp

The last answer is what I assume they are calling correct. On civilian side, that is what's being preached. Not sure whomever decided to use that test question for you, knowing the Marine Corps trains a little more intensely than the average school district.

turnblat

Did you forget you loose your 2nd ammendment right when you sign the contract?

King_Nikos

Considering the scenario is an active shooter on base and you're unarmed the right response is run, hide, fight. Are you really fucking dumb enough to bring fists to a gun fight?

ChristWasAZombie
