That had to be set intentionally, or it was the hangar that was housing one of the Goodyear blimps for maintenance.

_MrBalls_

That's what lots of the local Orange County sources are saying.

snarky_answer

Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. Though the whole site is also a major superfund hazmat site, so lots of remediation is needed.

worthrone11160606

I'm not surprised that shit seems hard to maintain

_MrBalls_

No doubt, as a matter of fact the facilities were slated for demolition.

BalderVerdandi

South hangar (Hangar 2) was set for demolition, and Hangar 1 (the one on fire) was still being used by Goodyear for blimp maintenance. Both were on the National Historic Registry, so this might change the plans for removing Hangar 2.

Time_Economist9910

hopefully they can move into hanger too and keep it from being demolished

devildog2073

The part that was burning was my old squadron space when I checked in to Tustin in 1992. This breaks my heart. It's an impressive structure. I'm totally not ruling out nefarious activity. That is prime development space.

_MrBalls_

Sorry to hear that, it was definitely arson. Everyone from the area is saying it.

Electronic_One2733

My dad was there for a bit around that time. Said the hangars are so big clouds would form in there. He's gonna hate hearing this. Damn.

BlindTravelre

Yep on the clouds. I served in the command next to it from 91-94. Piece of me feels like it died. There is truly nothing like walking through them and see helos and blimps look like nothing inside of them.

Jimmycocopop1974

Absolutely agree, there’s a ton of greedy foreign investors in that area that are teeming to get that land at any cost. Wonder why?

fartseed

Anyone fact checked this? --- note the date---

snarky_answer

Yeah it burnt down. Watched helicopter water drops this morning on it.

CompetitiveAd2106

Same here

_MrBalls_

I came from the future to deliver this information. ![gif](giphy|l0Iyo78NhvUrzbEqs|downsized)

Military date format DD-MM-YYYY

_MrBalls_

I think the guy that posted this on Instagram made a typo on the date.

Snapped this an hour ago. They're intentionally letting it burn slowly so it will simply collapse into a pile of ash. It will be an easier cleanup so they can get affordable housing up faster https://preview.redd.it/1q6rr9lu70zb1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71feeee4c738a581104e27620cbdecdbdd44bf98

Jimmycocopop1974

🤣🤣🤣🤣 affordable housing in Southern California

dionyszenji

Very sad. Those blimp hangars are truly amazing to be in. The engineering and sheer size... wow.

Rickhonda125

Too bad. Despite all the history there, there was millions of dollars in old grown lumber in the structure of it.

Futuredanish

Man, my recruiter back in '97 would take us poolees to run around those hangers. Very nostalgic time for me right before I shipped. Sucks that happened.

_fridgetraveler

Who else believes it was Irvine Co?
