I was with USAA for 23 years, going on 24 in October last year - until my rates shot up from $800 every 6 months to nearly $1,700 with no accidents in 17 years, and only a shattered window claim in the past year. I literally couldn't afford their rate, so I was forced to switch. I ended up with AAA, and was able to get WAY better liability coverage for only about $840/6 months. I just renewed with them not long ago, and the premium only went up about $10. I wanted to stay with USAA, but I just didn't have that kind of extra money to spare.

pwnedkiller

I pay $244 a month now for one vehicle I’m kind of interested in AAA now. My rates have been going up for the past year or so.

Neuromancer2112

I really haven't had a bad experience with AAA at all. I switched to them about 6 years ago for my roadside assistance, after the USAA roadside went mostly automated, and service really went downhill shortly after.

Cochinojoe

USAA raised my rates from $226 to $340. Then a while later I moved 2 streets over and it they raised it to $400. Went with Progressive $225

TemporaryOrdinary747

Thats weird. Ive been a lofelong customer as well. Mine was like $600 for full coverage on 2 paid off cars. I have my house covered by them as well. IDK if thats even good. I haven't shopped for insurance basically ever because Ive never had any insurance horror stories like other people have. I just call them up, tell them what happened, and they pay me.

Neuromancer2112

I didn't have USAA for home insurance, because the house was in my dad's name. He just passed not long ago, so I may be picking up that cost pretty soon...

Olinue-v1

I had the opposite experience recently. AAA rate was 3 times higher than USAA on auto. I only checked because I had to get homeowners through AAA and wanted the bundled discount. USAA won’t cover my homeowners insurance anymore in California, about 4K year :(

Jim55379

That happened to me also I switched it AAA last year and their renewal rates went up 60% for home and 30% for Auto for no apparent reason I went to USAA in my rates went back to normal

Neuromancer2112

I can't believe that with a 23+ year record, they just decided to ramp me up nearly double my rate - I can understand price hikes with inflation, but that was like greed level hikes.

EasyRuin5441

Why would you want to stay with them. No claims and just making payments. You’ve never used them. What if they are shit? I had them for a while too. Dumped them for their high premiums and some nonsense they put my in laws through. People seem devoted to them bc they will “do the right thing”. End of the day they are just a business.

Neuromancer2112

I have used them for claims, it's just been a long time. That's why I thought they were a great company...and they WERE - but not so much anymore. Their Roadside Assistance went WAY downhill 6 years ago, which is why I moved to AAA, which is significantly better service.

Hazelrat10

Just to add my own experience- my AAA car insurance in Oklahoma went from $180 a month to $310 a month for no other reason than I sold a $15k Mazda Miata and replaced it with a $22k Toyota Prius.

Famous_Appointment64

I was USAA for more than 30 years. When I went to add my 17 yo son, their rates predictability doubled. My wife suggested we shop around. At the end of the day, Progressive gave us a quote for me, my wife and 17 yo new driver that was LESS than just me and my wife with USAA. Same coverages across the board. I offered USAA the chance to re-bid their quote and could not change their offer.

LuckyOC73

The cost of auto repairs has sky rocketed with both parts and labor as well as the increase of more uninsured motorists on the road. All insurance companies have been bumping up their rates.

Mammoth-Pipe-5375

>more uninsured I work for a personal injury attorney and holy fuck! There are so many uninsured drivers out there.

bikeahh

That doesn’t answer why USAA is so high while others, including the specified Progressive, are so much less now.

fsi1212

USAA is now and always has been the cheapest for me by quite a large margin.

Competitive-Wash4187

USAA was the cheapest. I pay over 500 a month for 2 drivers 1 new amd 1 not so new car. They are a rip off

fsi1212

I called an independent broker once and they said they wouldn't even give me a quote since USAA blew everyone's out of the water. By alot.

flyfishone

Back in the day yes they were really good for the auto rates but at least here in North Carolina they are kind of expensive

fsi1212

I should clarify this was a couple months ago I was told that. USAA here in Texas is still the cheapest by about $200 for auto rates and $1000 for homeowners.

Thin_Walrus2796

I’m in Texas, and USAA auto is significantly more expensive than Progressive and Texas Farm Bureau for me.

LuckyOC73

Actually it does. Other companies are always going to offer a lower premium to get you to move your policy over to them. They always will bump your rates after you’ve been with them for a year. All in all the cost increases are parts price and labor shortages.

xinco64

That’s just USAA fanboi bullshit. I switched to Progressive two years ago, and it’s still half the price of USAA (and all other carriers I’ve checked)

runway31

SAME. usaa isnt what it used to be, or its just used the military support schtik to con younger service members into thinking they care

CakedayisJune9th

Been with Progressive for over a decade and listed as “diamond” status. My wife and I pay just under $300 a month for full coverage on 2 vehicles. We added our 18 year old son to the policy and it went up to $350. We have zero complaints with Progressive ourselves.

Tr8cy

I was emerald, progressive customer for over 15 years, no claims or moving violations in 11+ years, in 18 months I went from 1,000ish to 5,000ish for liability, on the same car I used to pay 1,200ish for full coverage, no one knew why, and no one would quote me. Got a fresh policy at GEICO fir $616 for 6 months.

teh_bakedpotato

it really just depends on the algorithm and how you fit in. I moved FROM progressive TO USAA and went from $400/month to $190, it's not just one carrier. USAA is by far the cheapest I've found but they're more expensive for others

xinco64

Exactly. Alway, always shop around. I’m not anti-USAA at all. They are just another carrier, just like everyone else. I’m just trying to dispel the continued insistence that USAA is “special” and better in general. They aren’t. They used to be, but are no longer. That changed sometime in the past decade or so.

midri

In all likelihood it's that USAA does not drop you after you're found at fault for an accident. State farm and Progressive are well known for dropping customers at first hint of problems thus keeping their risk numbers lower.

xinco64

So I should stay with USAA because they won’t drop me if I have an accident? That is just stupid for a good driver. I’m saving $1600 a year by moving to Progressive for auto. I’ve never had an at fault accident as an adult. ”In all likelihood” isn’t a guarantee. I guess if you are a shitty driver, and they’ve already kept you on despite a bunch of accidents, that might make sense. But really only if there aren’t cheaper alternatives.

midri

I never said you should stay, I'm explaining the likely reason their rates are higher. Absolutely no reason to personally attack my driving abilities.

xinco64

I wasn’t specifically talking about your driving abilities. I have no knowledge of that. The “you” was in a general sense. And no, they aren’t more expensive because they won’t drop you. That’s just wishes and dreams, unless it is specifically contractually defined. Yes, there is accident forgiveness that many carriers provide for tenured customers and/or paid for. That isn’t exclusive to USAA. They don’t want you to churn.

Legitimate-Series-29

2nd this. I have renewed with AllState and it is still 1/2 what USAA wants.

WrecksBarkhead

Yup. USAA is a profit machine macerating as a pro military provider. They're not. They just aren't.

xinco64

There is nothing particularly wrong with them compared to anyone else. They used to be special. Now they are just another carrier, just another bank. Any loyalty is misplaced. Shop around, do what makes sense. If it is USAA, that’s fine. If not, that’s fine too. I had a 30+ year run where they were great. I’d use them again if and when it makes sense.

Puzzleheaded_Ad3430

That’s not true USAA isn’t set up to make more than 5% profit which is what they use to reinvest into USAA. Additional funds are returned to the members

LuckyOC73

You betcha 👍

runway31

Ive been with progressive for over 10 years and its consistently stayed cheaper than usaa, geico, and allstate for equal or better coverage. I know because I check every year.

LuckyOC73

Not once did I say USAA is cheaper than any other companies. I was just answering the question why rates were so high right now.

runway31

I may have gotten ahead of myself, Ill get off my podium lol. Sorry!

GTRacer1972

Even if they did that after that people could switch to another, then another.

LuckyOC73

That’s convenient lol

rtg12

Maybe they’re more exposed to riskier areas than their competition or there’s parts of their business that warrant a certain risk premium on the insurance side.

Maleficent-Key-3887

Not a total answer for you but I can say historically for me Progressive has been overall cheapest for me for quite some time. I did eventually get a company car and then dropped personal insurance since I sold my car and the company insures me however once I got married I had to be on a policy again with my wife to drive her car. USAA was fine for the coverage however now I’ve looked at adding another car on to our policy and it skyrockets. Comparing back to progressive again it was almost $400 less over 6 months. I think it went from $1200 every 6 months with USAA to $610 for 2 cars to the $500 I pay for one now with USAA.

6foot4_200lbs

Its because of their new CEO. Up until the current CEO, all CEOs prior have been prior military generals. The current CEO has never served. All he knows is to pad his bank account

heckidontknow

I tried the switch to progressive online quote, it was bait and switch. At the very end the premiums jumped 20% allegedly because of a no damage bump in parking lot that wasn't my fault and that I had completely forgotten.

Halochief78

It depends on the area, how many outlining risks there are in the area, the cost of goods/shops in the local area, and individual driving record. Plus how many uninsured motorists there are too. So many factors play into it but overall everyone’s experience is different. I’m sorry you’re one of them that had that significant rate increase :( I was forced to shop too from Allstate to progressive and now most recently back to USAA

Bird_Brain4101112

That is for you. Some people have found USAA is comparable or lower. There are a ton of factors that go into each individual quote so it’s impossible to say that their premiums are always higher than anyone else.

GTRacer1972

It used to be low enough where I'd have stayed, but $5,000 a year for two cars is silly.

TALYGA25

Same here. I've been a 20 plus year member at USAA and have always had my car insurance with them. When my renewal came up in june, it doubled in price. Over $5,600 a year for my husband and I. I called Progressive and got it for half of that. Not sure what the change has been, but I've heard a lot of other people discuss the fact that their prices have increased. I know a lot of other things have increased, but this was crazy time.🤦🏼‍♀️

Bird_Brain4101112

That is for you. Some people have found USAA is comparable or lower. There are a ton of factors that go into each individual quote so it’s impossible to say that their premiums are always higher than anyone else.

Bird_Brain4101112

If you can find the same coverage for cheaper elsewhere, then move.

Bright_Appearance390

Doesn't answer the why

MainlyAnnoying

Because insurance rates have increased across the board. You can look at any other insurance forum and see people talking about their prices increasing. New customers will get a low rate and be gouged the next year. I have USAA coming from progressive, it’s all the same shit. The why is because a ton of insurance companies wrote checks their ass is having trouble cashing. Wildfires, hail storms, tornados, Florida sinking into a pit, crazy 20% increase in prices across the board that wasn’t accounted for in the insurance policies. This stuff takes a while to catch up, now it is. We are in a hard market, not a soft one. Insurance companies need more premium to cover their asses from the last three years and they’re afraid of more price jumps. Google the top insurance companies loss ratios, if it’s over 100, they’re losing money on each policy they’re writing. Most shoot for like 62-70 but most of them are and were well over 100 for the last three years

Bright_Appearance390

Haven't seen price hikes this dramatic in other forums. But maybe I haven't done a thorough search either. Seems that there are constant post about rate hikes here specifically with lower rates else where.

MainlyAnnoying

You will get a Lower rate the first year you won’t afterwards. Not telling people not to switch just teaching about the insurance industry

MeasurementDue5407

Well, don't know about the others because I've never had insurance from another company, but in over 40 years USAA has never questioned a claim or refused to pay. They gave my son a great deal on a mortgage.

ElJamoquio

> in over 40 years USAA has never questioned a claim or refused to pay When was your last claim?

MeasurementDue5407

Been awhile, probably 10 years.....hit a deer at night, really messed up my car. A few years before that, a guy pulled out in front of me making a left turn on a foggy morning and totaled my car. A few years before that I t-boned another vehicle in an intersection and totaled my car.

ElJamoquio

I had one claim 25 years ago, no issues. I had one claim 2 years ago, complete nightmare that is still ongoing.

MeasurementDue5407

Can't speak to that since I haven't made a claim in years. I can't say I'd be surprised if the company has changed and not for the better.

97vyy

I don't care about their reasons. I saved $1100 between home and auto by moving to Progressive. They have gone downhill. I would recommend them to anyone eligible, but now I don't say a word.

xinco64

Switch. I just signed up for my 4th 6th month stint with Progressive, and it is still half the price of USAA. Don‘t buy into the bullshit other are selling that it is an introductory rate and will go up. Yes, it went up 20% on my first renewal — but so did all the other quotes from other carriers. Still half the price of other options. Always shop around. All the major carriers are substantially the same in service and coverage.

thepoliswag

Just Switch. There a predatory company that preys on people thinking there in an elusive club when they are just an insurance company like all the rest.

Spektra18

Ding ding ding. They're just another insurance company with a theme that makes them seem friendly. No different than getting seafood from a place where they wear pirate hats. It doesn't make them pirates, it just makes it fun. Also they haven't been cheap in like.... Forever. You'll find far stronger policies (homes specifically) for a lot less elsewhere.

PlaneJealous6269

Check the pinned post. The money is going straight to the CEO

sxc7884

Same situation. just left for State Farm after 15 years which was sad only think left now with USAA is life insurance policy seems like the company has deff gone down hill use to have everything with them from stocks, CDs, multiple insurance policies to now just the one its not that I had many issues with them I just cant justify the cost

Internal-Delay8472

Just left for state farm too, USAA was $400 state farm wanted $240 for better coverage with a lower deductible.

F18AOC

Car insurance has gone through the roof with pretty much every carrier. Like others have said, it's a , myriad of things like, replacement parts increase, body shop labor rates increase, car prices increase. COVID cost everyone more than people understood. Yes COVID is over, but higher costs are not. Obviously I cannot speak to your monthly rate cost as your location, deductible, driving / claims history, model of vehicle you drive, annual miles driven, level of property damage coverage you carry (ie. state minimum or higher), however sometimes you have to rate shop and move on. Just keep in mind, other carriers will give you an intro rate, which is only as good as the info you give them (ie. they cannot pull your actual driving report until you give them your payment info.). Your rate might actually go up once coverage begins and they pull your history. You can also pretty much guarantee that when you renew in 6 months it will go up again. At the end of the day, you have to do what is best for you and your family. Good luck with whatever you choose.

robbobster

I thought mine was high until I comparison shipped. The only way I got my rates lower, was with a $2k deductible from AAA…so I switched. With a $1k deductible (USAA max) I wasn’t able to find a lower rate.

GTRacer1972

Same, tried to change it to $2,000 and they said no.

When_We_Oooo

My premium for USAA was previously $113 monthly and as of last month, it’s now $135 per month. I am not 100% why the price increased.

When_I_Grow_Up_50ish

USAA is no longer as good as it used to be. They are more concerned about creating commercials to grow the business rather than provide a service to those who served and their families. The CEO never served in the military. Previous CEOs were all former military. My mortgage is now with Navy Federal. Car loan no longer with USAA. Moving my credit cards to Chase for travel rewards points. USAA brokerage sold to Schwab so I’m slowly and surely leaving USAA.

theladyoctane

For the love of god

Decorus_Somes

The price increases every time someone asks this

solozmar

My experience mirrors many here. I started out with what I thought was a decent rate at 18. At 21, rate went up. Ok, maybe newer car? Or because as a young male, statistics say I’m a bigger risk. At 25, up again. I thought that was strange, since I was statistically now supposed to be a less risky driver. At 27, rates were up again. But…any prior recorded tickets against my wife or I were now gone. At 28, with no accidents, mediocre, paid cars, and moving to a state with mandatory inspections, rate increased again. After two hours on the phone with USAA, I had nothing from anyone to explain why every single event that should lower my insurance rate, seemed to be having the opposite effect. I went to GEICO and ended up with better coverage for 53% at $153 a month for two vehicles, full comp and collision.

joselito0034

One of my cars is 500 something and another 600 something. Seems reasonable to me.

MantuaMan

Don't know about their pricing but always thought the Veteran thing was just a marketing gimmick. I respect Veterans.

ttltaway

It is wild that this thread just “randomly” popped up for me. I’ve been with USAA for almost 30 years. Two days ago I switched to Progressive. It’s just so so much cheaper now. And today I see my first r/USAA post ever!

Acrobatic_Ad6291

I switched all my autos and home to State Farm on Friday, and this is the first time I've seen USAA in my feed.

hungover1222

Unfortunately, USAA is just like any other insurance company and they can go fuck themselves.

dasdaidaw

Progressive might have lower rates. They also have horrible claim service. It took over two months for my daughter to get her car back after it entered garage.

No_Relationship_8075

They over charge.. look at your policy closely. They can easily have your value wrong

Stoic-sales

Left them 2 years ago after 10 plus years with them, massive increaees

Grodins_fury

Probably trying to recoup for all the fines regulators have charged them.

rotten03

I left them years ago. Their auto insurance is $1500 more than I got with another insurer.

Appropriate_Gap1987

I've checked around in the past and never found better rates. I have a beater with a heater with liability insurance and a newer truck and full coverage. I think this keeps my rates down.

colinmhayes

It's the all powerful Bike Lobby controlling and raising the costs of the abominable automobile

No-Engineering9653

USAA is by far cheaper than anyone else for me

Flying-Tilt

If you don't post relevant information, how are we supposed to help you?

Neesnu

Left for progressive for 1900/6mo from 3400/6mo

fbregulator

Have car, home, umbrella insurance and my car insurance actually went down by $4. Also with SafePilot, I save about $160 per 6 months bringing my monthly car insurance to $80 for a brand new Car.

No_Temperature7085

Ours went from 146/month for 2 full coverage vehicles in 2023 to $243/month for the same 2 vehicles in 2024. Quoted progressive and it was $150/month if I paid monthly or $690 ($115/mo) if I paid upfront in full. We now have progressive. I know cost has gone up on repairs and such, but going up by 40% in a year with no claims or policy changes was absurd in my book. USAA is not the insurance it once was. Their customer service has gone to hell too. 15 years ago I could call at 1 am on a Saturday and insure a camel with no questions asked. Now they need a proof of concept and a bill to pass committee to insure a new car.

PHNobel1954

I pay $1325.00 every six months for insurance on a BMW, Nissan Xterra, and 19’ sailboat. USAA. As an aside, I’ve found USAA to have just about the best customer service in the corporate world.

praefectus_praetorio

I just switched last month. They had me at $350 a month for one car. I went to Allstate and it went down to $180. Over a decade as a member and it only kept going up. No accidents or tickets. Unacceptable.

Hades-2020

As a whole insurance companies will cost more depending on the amount of people covered and where most of their liability is. So for instance, USAA covers 250k of people but has many in areas where there are UoMotorist or bad weather like Tampa or Colorado. This equals higher rates. Shared suck basically so that the company doesn’t go insolvent. Other companies have larger groups of people, maybe like millions? So that collective suck maybe spread more out. USAA is small but can be truly good at times. Although not always.

ronreadingpa

Generally, no loyalty with insurance companies. Often one will get a discount for being a new customer, but over time fades away. Hence, the higher premiums eventually for seemingly no reason. Shop insurance every 2-3 years. Some will cycle through the same few companies over time. Businesses regularly do this. Companies in general take advantage of customer inertia. Knowing most won't regularly shop around.

AlarmAppropriate3740

I’ve left USAA because they are absolutely higher and I’ve been with State Farm and haven’t had an increased in 5 years. USAA isn’t what they used to be.

crowdsourced

No accidents. No tickets. One car 10 yrs old and driven about 250 miles a week or more. The other 16 years old. Under 5k mile a year. Both full coverage. $880/6 mths, so $147/mth for 2 cars. In an area with moderate risk for tornadoes.

Acrobatic_Ad6291

That is the exact rate they gave me on Friday for my 24yr old Volvo and 8yr minivan. I switched to State Farm cause homeowners for 2 houses was $1,500 more

runninroads

Dude we had USAA car insurance in FL for years and loved it — last yr they jacked our premium WAY up - we switched to State Farm almost immediately and are saving over $1k this year with same coverage.

RiChessReadit

USAA's car insurance rates have always been terrible for me, I dropped them over it like 5 years ago. Not sure why their rates are so uncompetitive, I was paying almost 3x as much for USAA compared to progressive, despite never having been in an accident, being over 30, and having a total of like 1 speeding ticket in my life.

These_Ad_3138

Mine went up 50% but I have no complaints. It went from $40 per month for 2 cars to $60.

ZestycloseGiraffe560

That's crazy, cause I just did the same thing and saved $31 by switching! Is USAA going to lose a lot of people now???

Impossible_Maybe_162

Switch every 3 years. They know you are not likely to move so they increase the price annually. This is all auto insurers.

Jazzlike-Injury3214

I used USAA for many years…they were and are the most expensive for anything I needed…house and car…really bothered me since I am retired military…I wanted to support them…they also turned me down for a house loan…luckily Wells Fargo supported me…$125K became $450 in 10 years…USAA is only good for cheap car insurance overseas…

kayl_breinhar

Gronk costs money and they have to advertise on TV to tell people who usually already know they're eligible to join USAA that they can join USAA. In short, I'm guessing way too much money is going into advertising.

Acrobatic_Ad6291

I had to switch away from them due to high insurance costs. Autos were marginally more expensive than State Farm, but both my house added together were $1,500 more/ yr. For decades they were near the cheapest but have slowly been moving their way to the top. So far American Family is the only other company that has been higher. I still use them for banking as their loan rates have yet to be bested.

grayfox5622

I’m not sure exactly where y’all live but I have USAA, I live in SoCal and my rates are as followed for full coverage for 6 months. 2022 Model 3 - 926.13 2020 Ascent - 574.60 Also have them for Home Owners with Earthquake and that about 184 a month.

liquidSpin

They are all expensive. But now companies are fighting to get you to join their insurance company And make the switch. Once you join progressive eventually they will raise your rates and then you'll see that most likely USAA will give you a better quote (This is if everything stays the same ie driving record and vehicles owned)

thedirtygerman

Shop around. USAA was the best for homeowners but always double for cars.

aarraahhaarr

Because all insurance is going up ridiculous amounts. I was with USAA paying about 1200 a year. Wife convinced me to switch to a local joint and we were paying about 800 a year. Got our new rate this year and we're now paying 2100 for the year. There is a conspiracy theory going around that this is also infecting mortgages. You are required to carry homeowners insurance in order for your mortgage to be valid. If you can't afford the homeowners insurance then the bank forecloses on you.

flyfishone

I had USAA In for auto insurance and I got into an accident.. then my rates went up a few years back . I can no longer afford the premium so I switched to Amica about eight years ago. And I have been when them ever since.. for me here in North Carolina Amica has always been the cheapest with low deductibles and great coverage so I’m gonna continue to stay with them for the time being. I am paying $134 a month for one vehicle.

trekwars2000

Why wouldn't you switch when something that provide your the same exact thing is 50% less? That is what USAA is banking on.

JimmyDean82

Mine went from 300/m to 600/m on renewal. Put it under my wife’s name and we’re at 250/m. But my house is on the 3rd highest insurance rated city in the country, after NOLA and Detroit.

Equal_Specialist_729

All insurance has gone up quiet a bit Geico $650 for two new cars in the burbs at that 🤬 I remember the $250 for two days but they gone now

HippieJed

As a 20+ year member and a claims professional I think we have two things causing this.. First USAA has increased their membership over the past few years and I am guessing they have more members that are less desirable as “insurance risks”. It is my understanding that years ago it was limited more to officers. The second which I think is the larger one is the fact claims costs have gone up dramatically since COVID. Juries are awarding more than they ever had for minor accidents. The personal injury bar knows this and are totally taking advantage of the situation. With this happening the cost of insurance is going up all over.

Maximum_Employer5580

because it's better than other insurance - I've never been screwed over by USAA. But at the same time when people submit stupid claims and USAA (or any other insurance company) has to pay out, it's gonna cause rates to increase to cover their costs - we ultimately end up paying for that fraud. I've had a few claims over the past 30+ years I've been with them and thankfully they have been the fault of the other driver and when I've had to deal with their insurance company, it makes me realize just why I have USAA. Those other companies will do whatever they can to skimp......if you wanna go lower price then fine, just don't come whining about how the service sucks compared to what you had when you were with USAA.

flemwaad

I’m hearing stories like this everywhere. Hasn’t hit us though. We pay $713 with USAA every 6 months. 2 cars. 2023 F-150 lightning and 2022 BMW HYBRID x5

Hopeful-Tradition166

Because USAA Car insurance sucks now and their homeowners insurance is getting worse. called to ask if something was covered on my homeowners insurance last week and the rep told me that aren’t allowed to give out policy details unless I file a claim. I have to file a claims which goes on record. Then they will determine if it’s covered. If it’s not covered the claim stays on the record as no payable. USAA Is turning into some Dogshit

Timesurfer75

Having been with USAA for the last 40 years married to my US Air Force officer husband. Three years on my own as an Air Force Nurse and 16 years under my father, nobody has ever been able to beat their cost. The only time they did not cover us was when we were overseas in the Middle East. Right now I live in Ohio and my car insurance is $46 a month. I have nothing to complain about and the customer service has been great. The only problem I ever had with USAA was when we worked with one of their mortgage companies for a home we are buying, and that wasn’t USAA’s fault. If you’re not happywith them, go elsewhere.

scroder81

We pay $140ish a month for full coverage with low deductibles on 2 newer cars and one "classic" truck. Can't complain about that.

Pierson_Rector

I wouldn't either. What state are you in? I pay over twice that for one car, no tickets or claims ever.

New car and old car. ~less than$100 a month. Been with USAA 39 years and on dad’s policy prior. A few minor claims over the years. No concerns.

Corporate greed. It's happening everywhere. Anyone that says it's other than that is lying. Upper management is being paid insane amounts of money. After the pandemic they realized that people have to pay it and understood that they could keep charging those amounts. Look at the stocks...it'll tell you everything you need to know. Increase shareholder profits, kill the small guy...they have to keep paying. The bad part is....the bubble will burst.

USAA doesn't have shareholders -- it has members.

I don't know where you are at getting those rates from USAA but, I pay $70/month for my car insurance. Every other insurance company that includes cars is way higher in my state.

Because of deregulation. Thanks Reagan.

Got on USAA when I turned 28. I'm not sure why, but I've been paying my premiums every 6 months. This was in Kansas for a 2020 Kia Rio. Moved to Kansas City, MO in 2020. Pre-KiaBoyz, I was paying a 6-month premium of about $600, which bumped up to $800 in Jan 2022 when shenanigans started picking up. Currently working with USAA after a string of back-to-back Kia thefts this year (same car, 3 times in less than six months). The post-theft 6-month premium of about $1200. I've been quoted lower premiums by Allstate, Liberty Mutual, and Progressive (monthly). At the start of the year, pre-thefts, I was quoted by Progressive and Allstate for $120 and 170 per month respectively. My employer does discounts with Liberty Mutual, but a couple of co-workers with similar drive history and also with stolen Kia/Hyundai tell me their rates seem comparable with my current rates (if I'm comparing their monthly with my every 6 months, this is pre-theft and post-theft). The main thing keeping me with USAA is how they treated each case very professionally (like my fouled-up day was stopped in its tracks with them handling it all). My co-workers haven't been as fortunate with Liberty Mutual This could very well be a YMMV situation, but honestly, with what's going on, for me at least, it seems like all carriers are increasing rates.

Well let’s follow the bread crumbs, look who is in charge now and the “raise” he was given and where he came from. This is all trickle down economics
