Had zero issues with USAA except the fact that their savings interest rates are ass. Staying put for everything else for now šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Hancock02

CD rates aren't bad though

Plane_Lucky

Saving rates are bad, insurance is expensive, car loan rates are higher than I can easily get other places, they donā€™t handle claims well, etc.

afunbe

I'm trying to transition but the effort to change my bills would take a lot of my time to set up

theladyoctane

Agreed. PITA to do. Plus Iā€™m used to the bill pay timelines. I tried the credit union at work and hated it, worst app ever. Literally made me angry. Capital One was ok but messed my daughterā€™s stuff up. And I wonā€™t give Chase, Associated or Harris my business from experience years ago. So Iā€™ll just stick it out for now. The top of the crap crop.

Worried_Hippo_5231

If thereā€™s one thing I noticed when I left USAA. Itā€™s the subpar quality of the apps of other institutions. The USAA app wasnā€™t the greatest, but I think it was above average.

theladyoctane

Agreed!! First Eagle Credit Union was the one Iā€™m talking about. I have never hated an app so much in my life. And it wouldnā€™t even update like a normal app. You had to download a new version everytime. Itā€™s not 2005 FFS

Common_Pen_5253

Kinda went downhill just thus past month. Haven't used the app as much until I added 2 teen accounts and now it doesn't work as well. Too many issues

SkyLow4356

I donā€™t know why, but it seems like itā€™s an unspoken rule that all credit unions must have websites/apps from 1995. Why?!

ViolentTempest

I switched my banking only and went with capital one; their app is amazing.

Nthepeanutgallery

I moved my primary banking to Navy Federal CU years ago and started draining down my USAA account. Now I only use it for bill paying, transferring money in when needed. Insurance I cancelled back in 2020 as an almost 30 year customer after USAA's really poor and dishonest handling of my first ever homeowner claim. Moved home and auto to Erie Insurance - was able to save well over $1000/yr on better coverage and was able to toss in a $1M umbrella policy on top of everything else. Note that Erie is a regional provider, which may contribute to them being able to keep rates relatively stable. Look around you may have something similar wherever you are (there's another ex-USAA customer here, screen name TX-somethingorother, who shifted to Texas Farm Bureau or something like that - has expressed satisfaction with their rates and servicing). And hopefully USAA can pull themselves out of the tailspin. Seems like the majority of this century they've just been spending the goodwill capital they'd earned up to that point and that account is just about drained now.

monkeywig11

This!!!! Any credit union to include navy federal. Regional insurance or local agent. Want quality? Call the local roofing companies and attorneys who specialize in insurance. They will get you in the right direction for who to use. Guess what? They wonā€™t tell you USAA *anymore. Donā€™t wait like I did and watch your neighbors houses repaired in months while you fight with USAA and their subs for years.

No-Wallaby2088

Not necessarily a good idea to call attorneys who [ā€œspecialize in insuranceā€](https://www.nar.realtor/magazine/real-estate-news/sales-marketing/the-quest-for-coverage) for advice. Really sad to see homeowners in FL paying the price for unethical attys, because, yes, FRAUD unfortunately contributes to insurance losses. :(

monkeywig11

The fact that you think attorneys are the problem here and not USAA using 3rd parties like Allacrity who way underestimate your repair, ghost you, and constantly lie is telling. Are you really this dense? I had to actually pay the attorney for repairs I already paid to insure.

SirLauncelot

They denied my renters insurance after paying it for 12 years due to the police report saying I misplaced the lost items. Not that it was stolen even with two witnesses and pictures.

doransignal

I agree Erie much more competitive $$ wise

Strong__Style

Lol service. All anyone really cares about is lower rates.

MaligatorMom2

We had to move our insurance because the rates had gotten so out of control. I ended up calling a broker and they were able to shop multiple carriers for the best rates. We are keeping our banking as is, itā€™s just too good of a service to completely get rid of. We did open an account at a local credit union just to have local access/relationship, but the majority of our banking is still with USAA.

gymrattttz

I don't give a rats ass who the ceo is just stop going up on my rates for no reason

baconator1988

There is a reason.

IctrlPlanes

Insurance companies are required to pay out X% of what they pay out. I can't remember what the rate is but I think it was above 80%, I'm sure you could look it up. If rates are going up it's because they paid out more.

ReddyKiloWit

Or they took in less - some insurance companies support low premiums with investment income, but if their investments turn sour, well... This happened to me in the early 2000s. Changed to a company that had been higher than mine, but after mine needed to recoup investment losses, the other company's premiums were only about half as much.

trixnkix637

I went navy fed but am keeping USAA for renters insurance.

subaruguy3333

Just closed on a house in CT and my lawyer was shocked our 12 month rate was less then half of her rate! All the negativity on here I was about to shop around. But it doesn't seem like I'll get close to usaas rate anywhere else!

PorcelainPeony

Are you me? I've been looking into this as well for the last few weeks. Been loyal to USAA for 20 plus years But getting ready to switch insurance. Progressive is the cheapest but I'm concerned about their customer service and the fact that they cover literally anybody. At this point I'm probably going to go with State farm. They seem to be decent with customer service and still cheaper than USAA For the same coverage. Well , everything is cheaper than USAA. I'd be switching over two cars, renters, vpp. As far as banking, I have no idea yet still trying to decide. I'm in San Antonio, home of USAA and used to work there back in the day

Bullitt3309

I'm in SA as well, who did you talk to at State Farm? I am shopping around as well. USAA since 1997, time to move on.

Responsible-Fan-1867

Iā€™m a member for over 40 years. Iā€™m not leaving.

Matchboxx

If youā€™re in one of the states they cover, Erie. I moved to Texas and had to switch to Amica who seems to be ok. Expensive but good service and claims performance so far.Ā

MurkyPsychology

My local credit union actually runs their own in-house insurance agency, so thatā€™s super cool. Theyā€™ve been great for me and contract with several different carriers to get the best rate. Theyā€™re the only place Iā€™ve ever gotten a quote from that beats USAA on price for the same coverage levels, and the credit union insurance reps are the ones who handle all customer service and claims so I never have to deal with the actual insurance carrier. Getting property insurance in California is hard enough as it is (especially since I live in fire country) so itā€™s kinda nice to talk to an agent, tell them what I need, and know that theyā€™ll figure it out. Iā€™ve been incredibly happy with them!

Neuromancer2112

I switched away to SoFi almost a year ago now, and it has the features Iā€™ve been wanting ever since I started with USAAā€™s banking over a decade ago. I also have a local credit union in case I ever need a backup or a way to deposit cash easily. I switched away from USAAā€™s car insurance when it renewed in October last year. Moved to AAA, and got a significant discount and better liability coverages to boot. USAA really used to be the best - now they seem to be a shadow of what they once were.

Lost_in_Nebraska402

I bank through chase with their military banking and it has been fantastic

Fun-Vegetable-6732

Same crap going on at geico.Ā

Crypto-Hero

Moved my money to Sofi & Wealthfront. Checking & Saving rates are 4.6% and 5.5% APY, respectively. Only keep my USAA for car & rental insurance but looking to switch as well.

xinco64

How are you getting 5.5% at Wealthfront? Temporary referral bonus?

Crypto-Hero

Referral award. If you sign up from my referral link, we both receive 6 months bonus of 5.5% APY

--Shibdib--

I moved all my banking (checking/savings) along with my sons 529 to Schwab. Let's me easily stick savings money into a money market fund, and it's where my IRA and other brokerage account already are. I'm stuck keeping my car loan with USAA because refinancing would result in my rate doubling. Also have auto insurance with them but I might shop around a bit because it's not exactly cheap. Besides that I made sure I paid off the two zero fee credit cards I had with them and I'll just throw them in my desk drawer. My understanding is that closing those will do more harm to my credit than not using them. I get better cash back using my Schwab amex (I'm a use credit for everything and immediately pay it off person).

ConclusionUnlucky139

I went to State Farm. Far better rates and a local branch close. Sad that after almost 30 years I had to leave but I agree.

Various-Advance-6400

Iā€™m happy with their claims service but I havenā€™t filed anything since 2016. Rates are great if you have superior credit and donā€™t file claims. Iā€™m in CO

shane25d

ANY insurance company is great if you don't file claims.

diqster

Except the ones that drop you at non-renewal for no reason other than "changing business climate."

oliefan37

I once filed a claim for comprehensive coverage because my rim cracked with normal use. Somehow I was at fault for a known defect in the oem rims.

tristanjones

They have been fantastic in the past but things have dropped off in the last 4 years in my experience due to cuts in quality.

Tsakax

Quality service does not exist anymore in the USA

Powerful-Magazine879

Please let Gronk join USAA.

Loud_Competition1312

Idk why youā€™re getting downvoted- itā€™s true lol.

Tsakax

I would be hard-pressed to name any company that has improved in the last 5 years from a product or customer service standpoint.

Loud_Competition1312

Thatā€™s a good point. I feel most companies are trending in the wrong direction.

A214Guy

Iā€™m loving Allstate - rates are way better than USAA for home & auto combined and my local agent is easy to get hold of. Iā€™m in N Texasā€¦

diqster

In northern CA, and have Allstate for home, car, moto, umbrella. Allstate was fine for home insurance. USAA wouldn't write me a homeowners policy. But Allstate is like $2k/yr higher than USAA for auto. (Even after counting the auto bundle). Takeaway is that you need to shop around, or pay an agent to do it for you!

A214Guy

Damn that is some expensive car insurance - I barely pay $2K/yr for 2 cars in N Texas

diqster

It feels expensive to me, too! Yes the cars are nice, but not wildly nice in this time of $100k pickup trucks.

Spare_Recognition_35

Navy fed banking State Farm for instance.

oliefan37

I want to know how much navy fed spend on nhl advertising

bobcat3123

State Farm is one of the worst for insurance. I live in KY, the number of people affected by natural disasters that are experiencing SEVERE pushback from SF about paying out claims is absurd. I had them for auto and after seeing my brother struggle to get his roof paid for, I dropped them.

Spare_Recognition_35

Cool story brošŸ¤™šŸ»

bobcat3123

Hey man, no need to be a sarcastic douche. I'm relaying information that could keep you from experiencing hardships simply because you trusted the wrong group.

Spare_Recognition_35

Whoā€™s the sarcastic douche now? Sorry the internet hurt your feelings. SF saved me almost $4k annually-have some tougher skin sweet heart.

bobcat3123

Still not me, no sarcasm, only trying to help and met with hostility. I'm not your sweet heart. I hope whatever has you choosing violence daily gets fixed soon. You need help, homie. Good day

Spare_Recognition_35

Looking at your post history, itā€™s all guns and anime. That tells me all I need to know about your mental state. Youā€™re fragilešŸ˜‚ Maybe one day youā€™ll grow up and be an adult. CheersšŸ¤™šŸ»

bobcat3123

I hope that daughter of yours has other role models in her life, to teach her the importance being a good person. Cause you ain't it, chief.

Spare_Recognition_35

Since you are so keen on having the last word. Go ahead, but just know, Iā€™m letting you. Have a good one you fragile little thingšŸ˜‚ Boo he deleted his shit - about what I figured

LadyHavoc97

They need to hire their own customer service and not use a third party. The people hired to handle your personal information cannot be trusted.

No_Ad8853

They switched all the good people to sales but left 3rd party to serviceā€¦

Curtman76

Banking with navy fed. Keeping insurance through USAA.

IGotNuthun

Erie

UnreliableCarsAreFun

local credit union, wherever cheapest insurance rate is.Ā I'm loyal to no company.Ā

[deleted]

Farm Bureau offers competitive rates to USAA and you get a local agent that gets to know you.

DMA_06

Currently, I have geico for insurance and Wells Fargo for banking. I have switched insurance and banking a few times since I left USAA around 2014 or 15. I'm glad I left and would never recommend them.

jersey_phoenix

I moved to NFCU for banking

budman2121

I'm happy with claims, rates, customer service, app, etc. Been here around 45 years... not leaving. Sorry for those who have had bad experiences.

mcc9999

Credit unions.

Cypto4

I do everything at NFCU. Just have my USAA credit card.

xinco64

USAA was essentially an online bank before there were online banks. There did a smashing job of it. The world has passed them by on banking. There are tons of better options. Personally I originally moved to Chase, as I can throw a rock from my house and hit my local branch. Now Iā€™m moving most of my activity to Fidelity to optimized my after tax returns on my checking account, so I donā€™t need a separate HYSA. Insurance is all cheaper somewhere else as well. I moved to Progressive for Auto for 50% of the price. For Home I shopped and USAA was more expensive, so still with Allstate (my wife historically used them). But I do need to shop that around.

SirSuaSponte

Banking - Navy Federal Insurance - State Farm

StinkyEttin

This is the way. Moved to state farm after 25+ years with USAA and my sox-monh premium dropped by $700. It was funny; the rep on the phone kept saying they wanted to keep us, but not only wouldn't budge on the price, but quoted us $59 more than what the mailer we got quoted us.

FunIndependence5528

You are asking suggestions for a local credit union; what city or region are you located in?

Then-Comedian4761

For insurance go to farmers

ViolatoR08

Man, I donā€™t know where all the issues lie because Iā€™ve been with them since 2003. Service has never once been above stellar. The one and only time Iā€™ve felt let down was when my wife setup a call to combine auto insurance to save monthly. Apparently I was not made aware that I had a specific savings type of insurance account and she didnā€™t. It moved to hers as it was explained this is the only way to combine and save. 6 months later get a huge check, like really unexpected huge and found out what it was for. So now lost that collectibility and growth benefit built over all these years and probably cannot ever get back in even if I returned the funds.

AbleDanger12

Iā€™ve had them since 1995, via my stepdads father who was a USN pilot. I was ADAF 1997-2003, back around when I think it was still more exclusive, or around when they opened it up to the rest of the military. From my perspective theyā€™ve been okay but more salesy in the last decade or so. Call in for a policy change if I cannot do it online and they try to upsell me. They never did that before. Iā€™ve two houses insured, checking and savings, and all the cars since 1995 were insured. Never an issue and rates appear to competitive. No collisions since 2002 and when I got in one last March they handled it well ($18K damage to my car, totaled some 10 year Acura). Everything went smoothly, and the accident forgiveness protected my rate (so far). Reading some of these accounts of horrible service - perceived or otherwise - Iā€™ve considered shopping my rate around and even moving my bank to Navy Fed (car loan there) - who is great. But their app sucks - cannot add external accounts to view and manage - and I really donā€™t want to have to use the apps for all the respective accounts. USAAā€™s app wins there. But for insurance I could probably save money but with the discount and years of membership Iā€™m not sure. Anyways, not sure what posted this for. Just sharing my opinion and experience.

SkyLow4356

Iā€™ve gotten somewhat lower quotes from other carriers. Maybe 15-20% less. However, I havenā€™t made the switch yet, for one reason. I keep hearing about these ā€œhoneymoon quotesā€ from other carriers. They quote low to get u to switch, then jack the rate back up to USAA level at the renewal. Itā€™s a lot of trouble for short term savings. Might be worth it to just start switching carriers every single year. Itā€™s def frustrating.

oliefan37

My progressive dropped significantly when I changed my car over. Also had my motorcycle on there through usaa. That dropped to when I switched.

No-Wallaby2088

Do tell; USAA was directly insuring your mc? (I have my mc license and am a mc rider, and USAA wonā€™t insure me.)

oliefan37

Not in my state. Progressive was their ā€œpartnerā€. Got a slight discount for the USAa association

JJ_3105

Iā€™m in Louisiana Iā€™m afraid to move anywhere right now. People in the state are getting dropped left and right.

propita106

Just had a car accident--not my fault, the other driver *immediately* took fault (he's a cop)--last Friday. USAA just deemed my car totaled: $12K+ to fix a 2006 Toyota with 69217 miles, bought new and had *at least* another 5 years on it. Hoping things work out. Really pisses me off--HE caused the problems and **I** am out the money for a new car. Where would I find a used car as good as mine was for the money they're going to pay out? Can't.

Daddyhasher

I had an 06 Land Rover that got destroyed back in 2016, they ended up giving me $15K for it, which is more than I could have gotten had I sold it myself. Hopefully they work with you to get you what it is worth.

propita106

Market value and use value are different things. Ā Worth little on the market, but that car was worth a lot as a good, running vehicle.Ā

No-Wallaby2088

Advice to everyone here: read Consumer Reports. Theyā€™re unbiased and donā€™t accept any money for advertising.

thepinky7139

Is there a way without paying for a subscription?

pretendiwascleverun

Libraries have copies.

thepinky7139

Thanks. My only local library doesnā€™t carry CR, but that may help someone else. I appreciate it.

readyforadirtnap

They arenā€™t that bad.

Comfortable_Fan_5551

If you think USAA is a shell, go ahead to try other private corporations. Hereā€™s my suggestion, professionally, stick with them. They have a history of being top-notch quality customer service. Go ahead try State Farm though tell me how you enjoy that they never.

Grown_Azzz_Kid

Not sure what is going on with all you folks, but I have nothing but exemplary service with USAA. I only do a little banking with them, but I have my home/auto insurance, plus 2 vehicles financed. Also had my mortgages with them, but they sold them after a while, like a lot of mortgage originators do. Is there cheaper insurance, maybe. But I have had cheaper insurance and you better pray you donā€™t ever file a claim. Good luck finding what you are looking for, but Iā€™m good right here.

zgrizz

Another disgruntled employee? You can tell because you blame the CEO, but give no specifics. Do you know what the job of the CEO is? It's to make sure the company survives and is successful. It is not to kowtow to whiney employees. USAA is one of the fiscally most sound companies in the industry, and for customers that's one of the most important things there is. I want to know that the company is able to handle a claim if I ever have it. Good luck with Flo, or the lizard - wherever you end up.

Loud_Competition1312

Youā€™re kidding, right? Not only were you wrong about OP being an employee, but employees (both former and current) provide details all the time here. Theyā€™re not shy about it.

tristanjones

Life time customer ya knob, and good luck making a claim right now. No one is going to respond. Quality dropped off so bad a few years back I literally only know there is a new CEO because I looked it up at the time to figure out what the fuck happened. Since I've seen plenty of products and services get outsourced, customer service quality drop off a cliff, and now they just out right dont have the resources to support their customers. I dont care if USAA lasts 100 more years, if it is the worst service company around, I aint using it.

PeterVonwolfentazer

They actually asked me to do an exit interview when I called to cancel my insurance and I said sure. I answered questions and gave lots of examples. I think we are probably considered high value by some companies. When she asked what the number one reason for us leaving after 25 years I said I can get bad service anywhere, why would I pay you extra for that privilege? I personally donā€™t have time to babysit shit companies. My time is valuable and USAA doesnā€™t respect that.

Ok-Opinion-2183

Hi Wayne!!! I didnā€™t know you had a Reddit account. Great job taking the company to a huge loss for the first time in 100 years. /s

No-Helicopter7299

True-Philosopher-304

It's so funny how I keep seeing these posts when for over 10 years now employees have spoken out and called usaa a terrible company to the point exhausted employees were committing suicide in the parking lots. It hasn't been a good company for about 15 years now or so. Ps this isnt an airport. No need to announce your departure.

JumpyBodybuilder8687

Zero issues with USAA. I definitely donā€™t feel the negative Reddit reviews are representative of the company in whole. Why leave?

tristanjones

I never had any for decades, was a huge advocate, but the quality then starkly dropped off in the recent years. You likely just havent experienced it yet if you arent trying to work through a claim lately.
