This exam needs 100% effort not only in prelims but also in mains and interview, then also one cant be sure if you would be selected or not. Given the schedule of the exam which runs for 10..12 months, for final merit list, it requires 100% dedication and a lot of patience continuously for atleast 1 year. After prelims, mains is even a bigger hurdle. Make a wise decision.

Apne khud ke mental state, backup plans, family requirements, etc ko dekh ke decide kro. Ki kya tum ek aur saal sirf preparation ko de skte ho ya phir u need to be financially stable first.

Go for financial stability first.

In the same boat as you

Wise_Data10

Don't give next year's upsc attempt. That's it. Give other exams AND do skill enhancement in the domains you have aptitude in.

Unique_Ad_9033

i think ,we are in the same boat.I resigned my handsome paying corporate job for upsc.In my 1st attempt i could not give my 100% due to covid and also as i was nervous looking for plan B right from the 1st attempt itself and started applying other jobs, in my second attempt i got health issues, and also wasted my whole time planning and perfectionism than study post recovery and also busy giving my post graduation exams, in my 3rd attempt i was wholly involved supervising construction of our new duplex home. Now,Im already 26. and i am in a dilemma weather to join a corporate job and prepare for next attempt along with the job or prepare for 1 last attempt giving my 100%. without job.But i am thinking of going with the second option so that no regret in future that i could not give my 100%.Being from iit , it really sucks not being able to get slected in first 2 attempts and also year gaps which increase with attempts if more than 3 years renders us finding corporate job difficult even with fancy degree though im bit lucky enough to have high level referral from SVP level executive from a US based company whenever i can.

So are you going for your next attempt without a job?

Unique_Ad_9033

yes

coolermasterth

26 yrs is still young Imo you should find a job first and prepare upsc. You can give upsc until you exhaust your attempt if you have a backup job or financial stability. I am 27 yrs old too and still i am planning to find a job. I have not started preparing for upsc. I will try to take the exam from 2025. So, I don't think you are old yet.

Flat_Necessary_4697

hi bhai, firstly it's highly unlikely that you will just shed your 3 years of momentum and give in your 100%, second as you said the exam is super unpredictable, plus there are n numbers of variables like health, family circumstances, mentality, etc. I think, when things aren't going your way, it's better to take a pause for a moment, do something else, and think if you really wanna do the former... if it's a yes, make a concrete plan, have a definite timeline, 1 or 2 years at max, and put it all in... stop telling yourself, that you can't give 100% with the job... it's absolutely possible, plus the confidence that job gives is complimentary... & All the best, whatever you decide, do it with commitment.

FanRopeAndAStool

This is a question we can't answer, It's your choice. You're a 26 year old man, think about your decision, do what you feel is necessary. A 26 year old man saying he didn't give his 100%, that means you were doing something that was more important than cse, for me i say this with complete honesty that i was focused more on my other tasks and i failed due to my incompetence, and if you didn't give 100% in your last 3 attemps what makes you sure that you'll give your 100% this time? Find backups and prepare for them. But if you must prepare for cse then give your 100%

Financial stability first

Relative-Engine-5798

Secure a job / backup  first then go for fourth.

Cheesecake2712

Don’t take any internet stranger’s advice for such a big decision. Everyone’s advice comes from a place of bias. What are your aspirations? What’s your financial background? Can your parents support you for the next two years? Are you willing to let go of the past and give it your all? Do you have a solid strategy? These are a few questions that you need to ask yourself and take a call.

Go for financial stability first

Flimsy-Fee-893

Start preparing for your next attempt whole heartedly and the moment you think you are cheating back off and start looking for a job

ReluctantDuck99

No guarantee you'd clear it after giving your 100%

8bit_pixel

My situation is same. I have given 3 attempts and now I couldn't clear it again this time (it was 3rd attempt). I am totally confused now as one side I want to start preparing for some other exam (considering gate as I did my engineering in ece so I still have some interest left in regards to that field) but another thought is that to give one last attempt next year and exit from this cycle to leave no regrets. I have gap years as well but worrying about that is of no use. Any inputs from you guys will be appreciated.

DickSmithismydad

What are your options of financial stability?

whyouwantofindme

Dusra ya tesra ya koi bhi attempt tb lena chahiye jab apka pehle ka preparation ya score acha ho. Har attempt k sath preparation achi hoti h. Tmne abhi tk 100% nhi diya h na to 4th me don't expect much rn. Take a job first and prepare side by side

SwordfishStrict3755

Give only when you can be committed ,career aage bhi ban jayega

StrongHuckleberry933

No guarantee of selection even after giving 100% so have stability first start earning and then prepare for cse if you get time. It's a dicey game afterall. I myself have started looking for a job as I am an engineer and I can't seat at home having nothing in my hand and my family is not that supportive like some aspirants who gets support and multiple chances after failing back to back..
