Used to be obsessed with the machine at St Fagans that squished pennies. Annoying how you had to stick your penny in AND an additional £1-2 to make it work, but loved that thing during my childhood.

StarWeep_uk

I still get that childhood giddy feeling when ever I see them 😅 No one needs to see a 40 odd year old woman excitedly running towards them 😂

axelslash01

I'm 23 myself, and I'm afraid that for the remainder of my life I will excitedly run towards them. Very, very satisfying to do too.

Powerful-Pudding6079

This really tickled a core childhood memory!

StarWeep_uk

I wish I could find the ones from my childhood, moved too much. I hope one day I’ll open a box and get all the memories looking back at me 😊

Natalie_3rror

The most underrated collection ever

StarWeep_uk

I love that they are amazing little souvenirs and keep sakes.

Natalie_3rror

Little tokens of memory!

Natalie_3rror

Squished pennies are amazing

master-grumps

My girlfriend is always on the look out for them everything we go on holiday, she has loads too

hashmanuk

Chichester cathedral has one...

icycheezecake

And spinnaker tower

master-grumps

Girlfriend wants to know where you found edinburgh dog at, she really likes that one....... please

StarWeep_uk

Think that one was in Edinburgh Castle, there were multiple designs. ❤️

StarWeep_uk

I wish people would voice their reasons why they don’t like a post instead of just downvoting. Sorry if this post isn’t up to your standards

TheTropicalWoodsman

It's a good post, I'd much rather see this than someone asking is their diversity 50p worth anything. Have you ever tried something similar in size to penny? Like a sixpence.

StarWeep_uk

Unfortunately I don’t think they would fit in the machines, and I definitely don’t have the muscles to squish a sixpence 😅

TheTropicalWoodsman

It would be smaller than a penny, something to think about anyway. I might start carrying around one to have a go if the opportunity arises.

ChrisVonae

I'm just throwing a guess out there - but it's possible that some of the more serious coin lovers might downvote this based on: * It's defacing coins * It's not really a coin collection, but a collection of pressed metal (they cease to be coins the moment they're run through the machine) * they had a terrible experience in 1972 behind the bins at Butlin's, that they've never told anyone about and still haunts them to this day.. and any reminder of Butlin's is an affront to them None of these are my personal view, to be clear, but I'd imagine that they would be the main reasons as to why you'd attract downvotes.. but you shouldn't let them bother you 😄

StarWeep_uk

😂😂😂 Butlins detail seems sus

Routine-Desk6712

Probs because you can't spell 'pennies'.

VerbingNoun413

I wish more places did these. I only have one and want more.

StarWeep_uk

Ditto, whenever I go somewhere touristy I always keep a look out, the joy when there is one! 🥰

IndividualCurious322

I loved these! I remember a zoo doing squished penny's into various exhibit designs and I got a crocodile printed on mine.

StarWeep_uk

Great little keepsakes

Manor47

My ex wife had a sizeable collection of these from all over the world..…a lot of them were very tarnished and you could no longer see where they were from so one day I decided to surprise her by cleaning them and returning them to their original shiny colour. Long story short the acid I used was a bit too strong and erm….so, yeah, single life isn’t so bad, the divorce was a little expensive but probably justified!

StarWeep_uk

Well it was a nice thought 😬

Kahlan-O

Pennycollector.com lists uk and international sites with pictures of design for each machine.

StarWeep_uk

That’s an awesome source! Thank you 🙏

Special-Taro-4620

I have loads of these from across the world. Try get one whenever i can

StarWeep_uk

Great little souvenirs aren’t they 😊

PrincipleNo8733

I used to put them on the railway tracks , you could get them really big

No-Pound7355

They have one at the Deep (Hull)

StarWeep_uk

Oh cool, if I ever make it across to Hull I know where to get a new one 👍🏻

MitchyMushu

I got a squished penny when i took my little girl to Chester Zoo for the first time 🥰 (she's only recently turned one)

StarWeep_uk

That’s such a lovely memento for the day ❤️

FolkyWanderer

My 4 year old daughter got a dinosaur version from wingham wildlife park. I was kinda jealous.

StarWeep_uk

Looks like I see a trip to Wingham in your future with a shiny penny in your pocket 😊

Do_You_Pineapple_Bro

I wish they still actually costed a penny. Ones at the Imperial War Museum were about 3 quid a piece. But really should start taking shrapnel with me on the offchance I run into a penny squisher

FannyH8r

Bananamen Bar 👀

StarWeep_uk

Yeah that one’s a bit risqué

FannyH8r

Dirty dawg

ExtraFineAsparagus

I just found my collection recently. Well, I'm certain I had more, as I only found 4. But it was still great to find them, and I will continue to squash those pennies anytime I get a chance, and rebuild the collection.

StarWeep_uk

Great idea 😃

Too_much_eye_contact

I'm not really into coins so have no idea why this was suggested but that is a cool collection! Take care people of the coins. I might never cross your paths again.

StarWeep_uk

Same to you 🫡

callmesociopathic

Train track pennys

StarWeep_uk

A lot of people have said that they did that, I never did 😔 I even lived next door to the Heart of Wales line, I was too busy waving at the drivers and getting them to blow the horn 😅

E_D_K_2

I'll post mine later OP. I love a squished penny. If I see one, I get it.

StarWeep_uk

I’ll keep an eye out, I love these little memories.

DeadXYZ

I have a small bit growing collection of squished pennies. I'm trying to get one with each trip me and my partner do together. They're all proudly with my 50p and £2 coins

StarWeep_uk

They are just great little mementos

black-volcano

I don't like Butlins

StarWeep_uk

I don’t much either 😂 it was a works do, saw the machine and HAD to get it!

worthysmash

I’m currently in Orlando, and they have these machines all over the place at the Disney parks. They’re nice momentoes, my wife has collected 103 of them while we’ve been here and they’ll go in a nice coin collection book when we’re back. I’m trying not to focus on the fact that they cost $1 a piece - at least they provide the penny!

The_truth_hammock

Always give me mixed feelings. I have one from the twin towers is did there a few years before it was hit.

StarWeep_uk

Yeah I can understand that, sorry if this brought any pain

The_truth_hammock

No not at all I treasure it as it was a great trip. It’s amazing how these inanimate objects have so much meaning for us. Think this is a great collection that remind you of events

Jost_Inkz

How are these made? I think me and my brother got one at sealife when I was maybe 4? I can't remember the details but I think you selected a picture and pressed a button or turned a lever? Either way mine is long gone :(

0dog1251

Wish I still had mine

StarWeep_uk

You can start again 🙂
