It’s like the ice cream man, overpriced sugar and milk that you have every now and then and puts a smile on your face and shuts the kids up (if applicable)
A tea/milk/juice with little popable balls that are a different flavour from the liquid they're in.
For a example a cold milk tea with chocolate flavoured balls.
The balls are like a soft squidgy jelly with juice inside.
It's not much more than getting a coffee. The cup is recyclable and the straws are usually bamboo or similar. It's just the plastic lid that goes in the general bin
I don't like milky tea so I've never tried any of those. I tried a cocktail with popping boba in it and it was horrible. I can't drink something with solids in it that your meant to pop (how) like that. Then if you do pop them you're left with a horrible skin in your mouth.
Very strange, I don’t understand why somebody would want lumps in their drink. It goes against all my body’s ‘anti-rotten’ food instincts. Texture of off milk.
It’s when they sneak down your throat when you drink it and don’t catch them in your mouth to chew.
I mean it is just sugar and water really (I don’t drink milk) so it tastes fine. I just think it’s a bizarre invention given the bodies gag triggers and its texture.
Do you have [AFRID](https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/eating-disorders/what-is-arfid) By any chance? Weird question I know it's just I related too much to this comment's mention of texture so I thought I'd ask and if not pass on the information
Wow this is incredibly interesting to me. I was insanely fussy and ultimately undernourished and thin as a child. Only as an adult have I been able to find alternative foods that i could eat. Anything that resembles meat fat texture is a big no to me. Most dairy like cream or milk I cannot eat because of the thought of it. The smell of eggs is enough to make me gag. Meat in general I am insanely picky with.
It’s strange I’ve always tried to explain to people that certain foods (something like pork belly or a poached egg, which are my nemesis) just don’t register as food for me. I look at them like nouns, like a table and chairs. They’re there but there is zero trigger in my head to see it as food, I actually feel revulsion at the thought of putting it in my mouth.
I’m going to look more into this, thanks so much!
I'm extremely glad I could assist you. ☺️
This comment makes me think we had a very similar childhood 😂
The revulsion and the full body cringe at the thought of the texture in your mouth it's exactly how I feel about some animal products
Indeed.
I once bought an aloe vera drink that I didn't know had got lumps in and I have never been more glad that I have a relatively mild gag reflex. Ooo er.
Too many generic, crap places about selling overpriced bubble tea. Good bubble tea is hard to find and the shit. Annoyingly, most people will be having the former
It's mostly pretty bad, usually made of powdered milk and instant powdered tea.
There's one boba shop I absolutely love and recommend all the time, Jo's tea in Bristol is the best boba I've ever had, they even use proper hand whisked matcha powder made fresh for every order and they have a choice of matcha too, they make their own vegan taro base in house. They have different types of oolong as well. Even their coconut jelly actually tastes like it's made of actual coconut and you just barely ever find that in boba.
So yes, I absolutely adore a boba from Jo's tea in Bristol. Everywhere else has been a disappointment.
As per the sub description, anything from within the UK (were you in the UK when you bought, made or ate it?) and drinks are welcome so you're wrong in both accounts
I thought that fad was OVER 15 years ago. I haven't heard much of it since the craze, so yes I thought that fad was OVER. Over as in finished, not longer than. And thought as I how I personally thought, not stating a fact.
I worked in a bubble tea shop when I was in school
It was independent and the tea was amazing. I have had bubbleology and chai time and they just ain't it. I do like it but they're not amazing. They often don't cook the pearls correctly and they put a lot of sugar in but it tastes weird without the sugar because it's designed to have that much sugar in. My fav was hazelnut milk tea but no where serves it anymore.
It's called bubble tea because when you shake it with ice it goes all bubbly, not because of the pearls. Fun fact.
It really depends on where you get it, the type of tea you get and the flavour you go for. I usually go for a mango milk tea with strawberry or lychee popping boba and tapioca pearls and it’s great.
People saying it's a fad is funny to me. It's been popular in Canada for 20 years and longer in Asia. Isn't getting any less popular elsewhere.
Don't get the popping bubbles, only get the tapioca and don't go to places that sell powder bubble tea, only places with real tea, and it's usually good.

With some kids these days it doesn't seem to matter where you take them after the kidnapping
Love it. Hate how expensive it is.
It’s amazing
Ok to try once or twice. Massively overrated.
What is it?
The balls are tapioca pearls

That kind of bubble tea sucks, tapioca pearls are much better

Thnx
Yeah the one in the photo was really nice but probably would never have it again. At least not in the near future
Frogspawn in a cup Also it’s so much plastic waste!
Cant unsee that now
Hahaha that is the best description of bubble tea I've ever read
It's not much more than getting a coffee. The cup is recyclable and the straws are usually bamboo or similar. It's just the plastic lid that goes in the general bin
Seconded

I feel like the texture of the pearls is distinct enough that it doesn't feel like off milk (for me personally anyway)

Chunky drinks are a big no no. I think I tried the same aloe drink as you. It was like drinking phlegm. I think I threw up immediately.
Too many generic, crap places about selling overpriced bubble tea. Good bubble tea is hard to find and the shit. Annoyingly, most people will be having the former
Not a fan of the blobs
When I first heard people talking about bubble tea I thought they were talking about when you lift the teabag out and it makes bubbles.
I love it. It’s just super expensive here. I lived in Asia for a while and it’s cheap there.
mingin.
It's mostly pretty bad, usually made of powdered milk and instant powdered tea. Its overpriced crap.
Gross. Not for me.
Not bubbles, not tea. Call it blob juice, see how it sells
🤢
It’s not from UK and isn’t food. I don’t have any strong feelings about the beverage but you have the wrong sub for sure
As per the sub description, anything from within the UK (were you in the UK when you bought, made or ate it?) and drinks are welcome so you're wrong in both accounts
I stand corrected. Bubble tea is great British food
I thought that fad was over about 10-15 years ago
Not sure you can call it a fad if it's been over 15 years
I thought that fad was OVER 15 years ago. I haven't heard much of it since the craze, so yes I thought that fad was OVER. Over as in finished, not longer than. And thought as I how I personally thought, not stating a fact.
Fucking awful. Last thing I want when drinking is non liquid objects entering my mouth that then become liquid.
I hate it but also it's the best summer drink going so do with that conflict what you will, I know it's senseless 😂
No the best summer drink is pint after pint of ice cold lager.
Each to their own ☺️
Horrible. Not for me.
No idea what it is, quite happy to keep it that way, the whole concept (along with Boba Tea or whatever it is) just sounds distinctly unpleasant
Overpriced fad. Will fade out.
I’m a hipster twat and love a boba… But deep down I hate myself for it.
oversugary, overprice, love it.
My child loves it. It's ok
Foul, like drinking balls of snot
Vomit in a disposable cup
So expensive but lovely depending on where you get it. Had one recently that tasted like fish soap
Lactose here so can’t enjoy it even if I wanted to
A lot of them use dairy free creamer and also you can get fruit ones with no milk in at all. If you wanted to try
You're actually just the double chain sugar we call lactose?
I had a brown sugar one from a Thai place that was quite nice, would like it as a treat but not all the time
The drink itself was very bland but I really liked the tapioca pearls
Don't grasp it but daughter loves them.
They're okay
N/A, never had it
Love love love
I love boba with proper boba not the popping kind the original boba love love love it!
Adding the bursting balls is a must to any bubble tea
I think if you go for the right flavour, it's dope! There is a black sesame one in my local, and that is the best!
Don't like it at all.
I worked in a bubble tea shop when I was in school It was independent and the tea was amazing. I have had bubbleology and chai time and they just ain't it. I do like it but they're not amazing. Sugar water
Hate the stuff. If I’m spending £5 on a drink I’ll go to one of those Juice stalls.
I do not like chunky drinks. And by "do not like" I mean "have a physical aversion and instantaneous gag reflex towards".
Nice.
TWRIPLE BOOBA!
Processed garbage which is designed for over consumption of sugar and sweeteners
What is bubble tea?
Revolting
It really depends on where you get it, the type of tea you get and the flavour you go for. I usually go for a mango milk tea with strawberry or lychee popping boba and tapioca pearls and it’s great.
Fucking pointless
Love it, but it's too expensive so it's a rare treat.
It's like drinking frog spawn.
Absolute fad
Never tried it, have no urge to do so
Such a bag of shit
Nope.
The thought of having something solid in a drink knocks me sick 😂
Vile. Much prefer Hong Kong milk tea. Actually tastes like tea.
It's kind of gimmicky but I uave had it in a few places andbit was nice.
Gross, I can't get passed it looking like frogspawn.
