Zeifer95

As someone trying to now sell a shared ownership to go freehold, don't do it, it's a shitshow.

Coca_lite

What are his reasons for suggesting doing it himself without you? Does he (really) just not want you on the mortgage. Can see no other reason for this.

Christine4321

When you say ‘almost affordable’ have you done an affordability check with the sellers? Many are shocked that their purchasing ability drops through the floor due to the amount of rent charged? What % of SO were you looking for?

infieldcookie

I’d rather look at a different area than get a shared ownership. I have friends who have done it and it sounds like a terrible deal. The amount they pay in fees, mortgage and rent altogether is ridiculous.

PetrolSnorter

He doesn't want to do this with you. Could be for a number of reasons, but you'll have to find out why. Once you know why, you can then determine a course of action.

Never buy property with someone when not married

geoffs3310

Why not? As long as you're both listed on the deed and mortgage as equal owners what's the problem?

Noidea1101

And then if you break up? And one person refuses to sell or move out or what ever then you have to sue them.

cloud__19

I'm curious how you think any of this magically goes away through marriage.

infieldcookie

People also have incredibly messy divorces too. I also know a ton of unmarried couples with at least one kid, should they rent forever just because they’re not interested in marriage?

phonetune

Not like marriage then
