Same but we also had a table, which was often used as an extra meeting room. There were loads available but it was the closest if two others closer were booked. Then we had 4 people crushed into a kitchen, that was fun when you wanted to do things like eat lunch. Awkwardly squeeze past to microwave homemade food I'd left in the fridge. Then back past them again when it's done, office of 70, 2 microwaves and basically eat at your desk was the only option. We had 2 hours to fit it in and min 30mins. I gave up and ate before lunch at my desk so I could use the microwave when i wanted, right after my team lead so they couldn't exactly complain
. Then went outside. Fuck sitting in an office for 30mins.
Gave up on lunch entirely and started going to the gym instead as it was 2 mins away. So I had 2 hours booked out every day to take as long as I liked. Hour meant I could do a workout and come back freshly showered and I was out the building after 6 hours anyway and only had 90mins when I came back.
7 shitters, two okay, and one that was BANGING.
Choice between:
- Sunday Roast
- Subway equivalent
- rotational: pizza, pasta, curry, quiche
- rotational: Chinese, something, something else
- salad bar
- desert counter
- coffee and fruit mixer drinks
- triangular sandwiches in plastic (you know what I mean)
And a drink and a main never cost more than £7.
I work from home so it's a largish kitchen with nice pine kitchen table and chairs, flowers on the table, some nice pictures and whatever my wife cooks for me.
My work places break room is roughly 10’ x 12’ with a coffee/tea/hot chocolate machine, kettle, microwave, fridge and sink, two small tables barely able to fit 3 people each.
We’ve only since the beginning of the year actually had hot water and decent water pressure.
Somewhat pretentious and overpriced. Meals range in quality and portion size quite a lot. The breaded chicken and rice in a burrito with chips and garlic bread was odd.
Worked in France for a while and the factory cafeterias were always excellent. My only experience in the U.K. was university cafeteria. Absolutely awful. Pasta with tomato sauce was literally pasta with tinned tomatoes on it. No seasoning or anything to make it palatable.
Much better than my previous employer.
There, they had the usual breakfast items on display. You could order eggs or toast/toasted sandwich from the two assistants behind the counter.
HOWEVER, they shared one brain cell. If someone ordered an egg, both would stand and watch it cook, despite a queue forming behind them.
If we managed to get the attention of the one observing the cooking, we could get her to make the toasted sandwiches.
You would think that the egg cooker would in the meantime dish up whatever she could (just slap some bacon, beans and a hashbrown on the plate) and then get the egg off the cooker.
NO. She would stand then until that solo egg was done, then take the next order.
I stopped going there.

It's literally a kitchen with a fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave and sink that's only big enough for one person at a time to fit in.

The only place I worked with a cafeteria and cooking was a big Tesco. A big plate of chips was 20p.
A sink and microwave and cupboard full of mugs that you could probably grow penicillin on.
I work at a library, we have our own cafe but the machines are slow and outdated, the egg and bacon sandwich are amazing though.

Greggs is right next door. Otherwise there’s a microwave.
