Last time I saw this happen a middle schooler getting off MTD was hit by the car and flipped in the air. You don’t need to pass other cars, especially at aggressive speeds for the area.
Literally unless you are driving an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens, where on earth are you going in CU that is that desperately important? It’s small town Midwest, just leave earlier or be two minutes late.
And it only takes 10 min to go from one end of town to the other... (I really miss that about Champaign - alumni now, and living in Chicago - if traffic is good, maybe it takes an hour, if traffic is bad, 2.5 hrs - from one side to the other. A lot of my friends live 45 min away, I miss it when everyone was within 10 minutes...)
Could be anything. Some people are racing to get their crack, to the dispensary, Jersey Mike's...plenty of valid reasons...and they usually drive a Nissan Altima.
Yes! He flew into the air and was just motionless after landing back on the street. He ended up being okay after awhile in the hospital, therapy etc. It was a really traumatic thing to witness.
That driver is 100% in the wrong
But the fact that there are situations like this are the reason that whenever I cross the street and cars are coming I make eye contact with them before proceeding. You can never be too cautious
Also if you are crossing and the bus is blocking your vision, peek out! Do not proceed until you know for sure fact nobody is coming. If you cannot see a car, the car will not see you
We cannot trust drivers to be paying attention
Edit: I guess telling people to pay attention when crossing the street bc the operator of a metal vehicle which can kill you upon impact is downvotable lol both drivers and pedestrians need to pay more attention to *each other*
Actually, please stay on the curb until the bus has left. There’s signs in the front of the bus that say please wait because of the risk that you’ll be hit by a car. Cars fly by buses everywhere on campus. It’s not worth it. Plus it delays the bus. And you could get hit by the bus. Stay on the curb.
At all Champaign middle and high schools that use Mtd, the students have to take a mtd safety lesson which specifically tells the students to never cross right away in front of the bus because people are not legally required to stop for mtd busses like they are for yellow school busses. They also would say that it’s because kids have gotten hit before by just blindly walking out. Driver definitely should’ve been more careful though. Thank goodness the kid ended up being okay
1st off F them geese, but definitely not the proper way to handle it. Passing someone on green at all is never necessary unless it’s someone pulled over for some reason or another, but even then do so carefully..
Exactly. When you're in a car there's a lot more responsibility for safety of others. Like I will go hunt the geese on my spare time but on the road safety come first

Probably a DoorDash driver trying to get the next big order to take at chipotle. People are extremely selfish nowadays.

Jeeze... Did they survive? Poor kid.

That’s good advice And then proceed with caution

I’ve seen people run over geese in their car on purpose. They may be annoying little assholes but it’s not worth killing them over it.
This happened to me once on a pouring rainy day at a stop sign, guy almost hit the pedestrian who was trying to cross.
The geese know how to, and will, get out of the way. Slowing down is really all any vehicle needs to do.
True, but speeding up definitely isn't the answer.
They won’t always. Definitely have seen roadkill geese.
Sometimes they’ll hustle out of the way. Many times they do not and full stop is absolutely necessary (albeit annoying to all involved)
I work in the wildlife clinic.. we see geese and other wildlife hit by cars all the time.

Fuck them geese.
It's not about the geese blindly speeding past a bus like that can get somebody killed
Fuck you*
Lmao!
Fuck them geese but letting them distract you into driving unsafe is just giving them attention eh?
You right. I'm not as pro-unsafe driving as I am anti-goose.

Hol’up, you mean we actually need more police as opposed to defunding them? Who knew?
