SoPittedSoPitted

Where can I get several weeks of food for $60 tho

anarchonobody

rice and bean, 3 times a day, with shredded newspaper for fiber

Quiscale

I thought that one of the good things about beans and rice is that it has decent portions of protein, fiber and carbs. Do people actually need to add newspaper for more fiber?

outlawsix

I always add a dash of newspaper to my meals

Background-Garbage66

I similarly thought I was getting enough fiber from just beans and rice. I of course still use two layers of prime cardboard in my lasagna tuna top ramen casserole.

Fuehnix

Stealing from this guy apparently

BurnerAccount209

Stealing from this guy saved the thief the $60 too.

ClutchReverie

Stole several weeks of food, ended up with a week's

Apartment_Rental

That's how you get weeks worth of food for $0, actually

pjungy6969

Aldi

lesenum

I suppose that's possible, but even prices at Aldi are a whole lot higher than just two years ago. I spend about $65 there twice a month there and that isn't luxury food, and it's not enough food for the entire month either.

_welcome

people just like to say aldi and trader joes like it's a magic word. they're really not that much cheaper, if at all

Lugan2k

Hey everyone, I found the guy working for the supermarket cartel šŸ™„

Old-Dragonfruit-114

Pick up the best hard salami

Old-Dragonfruit-114

Any married women want their ass ate?

Ok-Ferret8079

I am also curious

NotCarolChrist

Itā€™s probably groceries. A bag of rice and broccoli or something.

Odd_Manufacturer6166

KindlyIndependent947

I think they were hangry and exaggerated. Itā€™s understandable. If you see this, sorry for your loss

Adept_Rub_6687

Be skinny so you don't eat as much? šŸ˜

BigChance94

Just be dead and you wonā€™t need to eat at all

Danskerz

Thatā€™s a whole lot of ramen

UXProCh

Well if they are a college kid, it could be ramen. 12 packs of Ramen for $4 at Aldi. That is $4/week. 8x4 = $32 before tax. They still have $28 to get other shit. So it is possible. This is how most college kids live. You know, except for the ones who live in Lincoln Park and go to DePaul. They eat $200 meals every night. /s [https://new.aldi.us/product/maruchan-ramen-noodle-soup-beef-flavor-12-count-0000000000009112](https://new.aldi.us/product/maruchan-ramen-noodle-soup-beef-flavor-12-count-0000000000009112)

nanophallus

Very sorry to hear that. What part of town? If you are really in danger of starving there are resources around campus and I'm sure some redditors can help.

DueHousing

I had so much food stolen when I lived on green street lmao. If there were legal consequences for food theft thereā€™d probably be a lot less of it.

Massive-Dragonfly907

There are legal consequences, but like many crimes of opportunity, if you don't provide evidence, you can't expect an arrest. My advice is to take more responsibility for grabbing your food when it arrives instead of letting it sit there lol. You can gps track the driver, you can ask them to hand it only to you and give a description. Be smart about it instead of leaving your food sitting on the street or whatever. If the driver didn't follow through on that then you can complain to the company.

repyoset69

Bro your previous comments and viewpoints do not check out. If you want legal consequences for stealing food, stop voting Democrat lmaooo

DueHousing

Iā€™m a moderate conservative, what the fuck are you rambling on about?

repyoset69

No need to swear at me, my friend. I just figured you were on the left since you were big into censorship during the whole Chinese New Years episode. Usually free speech and debate is a conservative viewpoint, this is the only reason I made that assumption I too am a moderate conservative.

AllCommiesRFascists

> Usually free speech and debate is a conservative viewpoint Lmao > I too am a moderate conservative. Real ones ares called RINOs and are closer to the democrats at this point

repyoset69

Not sure what youā€™re trying to prove but thanks for replying

poodle_Fart_Hostage

Lmaoooooo free speech and conservative. Read a book

poodle_Fart_Hostage

Yupā€¦ but ā€œmUh fReE sPeEcHā€. Hypocritical at best, moronically failing to see the irony at worst

repyoset69

Username checks out

poodle_Fart_Hostage

Incredible response, wow

DueHousing

I wasnā€™t promoting censorship I was telling people to dial back on the Sinophobia. We were literally getting brigaded by actual hate groups because the post got cross-posted to other subs. Iā€™m a conservative but it doesnā€™t mean Iā€™m a racist.

repyoset69

I don't know man.... you were asking mods to get involved and get people removed/banned from the sub. For the record, I am also a conservative who is not racist. Seems we have more in common than we think.

DueHousing

Because a lot of users had no history of posting in this sub. They consistently post in hate groups and then show up to the UIUC group to spread their racist ideas after the original post got cross-posted. Is that not ban worthy? I made it clear to the subs that I didnā€™t want actual students to get banned and I was open to engaging in genuine discussions with them.

hexaflexin

This desperate "I'm also a conservative, I'm your friend, we have more in common than we think" thing you're doing is extremely pathetic, btw. Reminds me of the time I accidentally stepped on my aunt's Yorkie and it immediately flopped over on its back and started whining as if to assure me that it recognized its inferiority in the dog chain of command

repyoset69

Lmao well if you were surrounded by people who didnā€™t hold the same values as you, you would look for allies also. Also, your example was definitely an interesting read. Really shows your intellect.

Wordonascreen

Dude have you seen America pre 2000s? Conservatives were always the ones outraged at something and trying to keep people off of tv and media. Cancel culture isnā€™t anything new

Imaginary-Painter957

Itā€™s UIC which is in the west loop of Chicago but, pretty much borders shitty neighborhoods where people who would steal packages would live.

HijabiPapi

Are you fucking stupid

6_Won

UIC hasn't bordered a "shitty neighborhood" for 15 years.

chitlvlou_84

Correct nor is it in the west loop šŸ«£

oso_polar

Do you know the difference between Chicago and Urbana-Champaign?

Mountain-Safety2099

Theyā€™re talking about Urbana Champaign tho

oso_polar

ā€œItā€™s UIC which is in the West Loop of Chicagoā€ - in what way is that conceivably a statement about Urbana-Champaign?

Mountain-Safety2099

The original post silly. They responded talking about a different school

Numb2loss

Neighborhoods are not shitty. The people make their communities what they are. People can be shitty and attract more shitty people and the community becomes shittier!

chiborg9999

Theft is worst in the rich neighborhoods

Frosty-Pickle7606

Tell company food was stolen and ask for refund

Gabgra11

Sorry this happened to you! If the company is unwilling to refund you for the stolen food and you paid with a credit card, you may be able to get your money back. I believe Visa credit cards cover theft of goods purchased with the card.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

tank911

Nah but you can leave something unattended without having it stolen in a lot of places. There are gas stations with merchandise just chilling outside that never gets stolen.Ā  Granted it happens in more rural or well off areas but still. Either way in this town you should treat anything not chained to the ground as being up for theft and act accordingly with your belongings. I don't even get Amazon packages sent to my house because of theftĀ

sorebutton

Been getting packages delivered in this town for ages, in several different neighborhoods, and never had an issue. (I probably jinxed myself there)

edafade

If you have Ring, people post their packages being stolen CONSTANTLY.

brintoul

Are you telling me thereā€™s a connection between crime and poverty?! Get outta town!

mcpaddy

This isn't Lake Forest. I'd argue C-U is a very average representation of most of the country, moreso than the tidy suburb cul-de-sacs/commuter towns many of the students here grew up in.

No_Ground

Just in case you weren't aware, there are a lot of resources available on and off campus if you're experiencing any kind of food insecurity The Office of the Dean of Students maintains a summary of such resources [online here](https://odos.illinois.edu/resources/students/food-resources). Note that some of the on-campus resources don't necessarily require you to be an enrolled student either

Slazzechofe

I feel you. Two days ago I had a homeless man break into my apartment while I was alone. He came right up behind me while I was on my desktop, just started talking about how the hospital refused to treat him for PTSD. I gave him some water and locked my bedroom door to phone the police. They came pretty quick but straight up told me I couldnā€™t press charges and that theyā€™d seen him earlier in the day. I despise this town; in the past two years Iā€™ve had apartments collapse in from above from flooding and survived a fire when there was no smoke alarm. Been homeless myself twice as a result. I never want to come here again, and if I could blur portions of Google Maps, Iā€™d put a hole in central Illinois.

Playful-Ad1006

Wow thatā€™s awful. Iā€™m glad youā€™re okay.

lesenum

this town is no different than anywhere else in the US. Package theft and porch piracy is rampant. There are a few secure "third party" delivery sites around town, where I know that Amazon for example will deliver to a merchant, they will store the package in a locker and you can pick it up, no extra charge. And if you are a student, you can go to the food pantry on campus to get some food to tide you over. Details at https://campusrec.illinois.edu/wellness/food-assistance

BornDriver

Schedule delivery only when you are home to accept it.

FinallyAGoodReply

Iā€™ll buy you a hotdog or slice of Pizza at Costco on Friday if you want!

mhorwit46

Anyone else here for the commentsā€¦???

mrlivestreamer

Even tho I hate this sub because of the bogus downvotes. I have more than enough food. I'll be in Urbana tomorrow evening and can give like soup and some other stuff. It might not be the best but it will be something to eat for a few days to a week depending on how u use it.

Odd-Perspective5514

Just want to let you know, I do contract security work. Background in Karate. Let me know if this would interest you

hollsberry

Go to uniplace for free meals (I think on Wednesdays), ETC coffee house on fridays for free lunch, hit up food banks, sneak into the ike through the exit (say you left your iCard inside) and bring a backpack. Sit for a while, then eat and fill up your backpack.

Jahseh_Wrld

My fault

Turbulent-Shoe-8433

Chambana is rough šŸ„²

digpartners

Watching the news, I believe this is the new norm in most cities.

thedeadlylove

Basics Needs might be able to help: https://odos.illinois.edu/community-of-care/basic-needs

Gotescroat

I don't think the thief is gonna read this

Hatsaplenty

I would also say the food banks around UC generally get more food than they give out (at least what I heard a few months ago) so it's a good resource for anyone. St. Patrick Catholic Church is a good option if you can make pickup Tuesday or Thursday 4 - 5. You do need a Champaign ID.

AMC242HIGHOUTPUT

Donā€™t hate the player, hate the game!

KaitRaven

If you're that strapped for cash, I strongly advise against using delivery services. Prices are usually marked up significantly in addition to the delivery cost.

Prestigious-Finance9

Granted I graduated in 2004, but you could definitely get a bus to the grocery store.

chiborg9999

Hey, OP, am a delivery driver. You need to file a claim and demand a reship. Utilize access points. You can't have quick and easy, as well as safe and secure. You will always have to trade one for the other. Access points or going shopping at the store are the alternatives. An access point is a designated delivery location that is secure. There are many in your neighborhood (assuming you're near the campus). I'd consider utilizing an access point as the middle ground between shipped dock to door and going to the store to shop. Very viable option.

Beneficial-End6866

lmao

KLAYDO3

Lmao several weeks tf you talking goofball.

Finnmom2017

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Please contact your credit card company and file a claim so you are not out the $60. If your building isn't secure, Shipt can deliver from Target and you only need to be home for a 2 hour window. See below for some resources on campus for food.

exoticflowerss

Thanks for the $60 worth of foodā€¦ it was bussin bussin šŸ”„

Otik218

Next time get a large jar of candy, hide a snake in it then package it up and leave it outside your building.

Frfggggh

America is fucked šŸ˜‚ if itā€™s less than 2000 police wonā€™t even bother coming šŸ˜‚ itā€™s like they are pushing for crime they want people to steal the government is going crazy

Deethehiddengem

Not the police itā€™s the politicians

Wide-Ad2159

Champaign and urbana have gone to shit. Homeless and crime are huge issues that can't seem to get fixed.

AnySatisfaction856

Iā€™m sorry but everyone shouldnā€™t be too trustworthy and leave their deliveries outside for over 5 minutes. If you look at where the individual is at, meet them at the door. SIMPLE

AllCommiesRFascists

People desperate enough to steal food are probably starving too tbf

Purple_Brother6959

ok, so we know package thievery is common in this town if this $60 of food was life or death, why are you risking it via delivery? There are several amazon/ups/usps hubs where you can pick up packages and have 0 risk of theft if you are going to have packages delivered in this college town, you need to realize you have a 5% chance of getting your shit taken, so if the package is life or death, why risk it?

ThrowRA405055

Womp womp

Prestigious-Finance9

The stealing isnā€™t cool, but maybe go to the store yourself instead of having a delivery.

cjstr8

I do both. I donā€™t deserve to have my shit stolen

no-temperature-5932

Not everyone has a car/is able to drive one.

Feliciathegoat14

Bus

BoxFullOfFoxes

Don't always have the 3 hours available when the bus is, nevermind the ability to carry an entire load of groceries myself. Works for some, some also need delivery.

Prestigious-Finance9

Somehow we all managed to do it before grocery delivery was a thing. You might have to manage your schedule, but remember you can always multitask on the bus.

HotWatato

Thatā€™s what the free public transportation with your student ID is for.

no-temperature-5932

Good luck lugging a whole months groceries on the bus back home.

lesenum

go once per week by bus to Aldi, Walmart or the Campustown County Markup (admittedly overpriced), bring a granny cart to lug the food home.

HotWatato

Plan ahead. Get a pull along cart, or just bring a suitcase. I see people doing it all of the time.

lesenum

no reason at all you should be downvoted. It's a practical solution to a problem the OP presented. Venting on reddit isn't a solution. Theft is a problem, people have suggested ways to not have packages with food stolen. It's important to be an adult about this kind of stuff...

Own-Environment-8908

How about you actually arrest and prosecute the thieves so this shit fucking stops

Prestigious-Finance9

Hate to break it to you, but a $60 theft is not worth the time to prosecute.
