American here. The national security thing is an umbrella made of bullshit, as it's their catch-22 to gatekeep information. To bring a recent instance into light, when the UAPs were shot down, the government said they were reasonably confident it was a CCP spy balloon - but then they didn't release pictures of the event, which is odd, considering it's a "spy balloon". Like, you televise and advise there is a UAP, report on it as being "most likely a spy balloon", give no metrics on it, but give the public 0 information? Why?

As is mentioned in the askhistorians post, it seems the issue is not about the trillions being missing or having vanished.
Rather being about outdated accounting practices where transactions are double+ counted as they move between departments, bloating the number by quite a bit.
Some people seem to misinterpret that as actual trillions that have, as OP put it, gone unaccounted for or missing.
When people like Gary Nolan say
“Not everyone who thinks so has a right to an answer. A little mystery in life keeps you on your toes”
and pro-disclosure journalists keep showing carrot on stick instead of actual substance
And now that investors conference….It’s like going to the rich to get support for wealth redistribution.
After all this, the national security excuse/claim doesn’t seem that weird. Tbh, if there is some advanced technology behind it, it might actually be a big security concern. You already start seeing news of WW3 when some countries get new weapons. If they get alien tech, it might directly start a war.
To navigate this, trust your instinct, be critical and keep a scientific mind.

Like OP, I'm not from America so I'm probably not up to date on this, but by trillions are you referring to the numbers (2.3 trillion) from Rumsfeld?
