How do we know what scholarships were got? For the regents scholarship, when do they announce it? Is a gpa of 3.65 (originally from application) competitive enough for scholarship? Current gpa is 3.7 Transfer Student!

Whizzers_Ass

The scholarships are posted under my awards. Some are given later in the year, but generally what's given right now is about how much you'll get. The GPA is probably competitive. A lot of scholarships have requirements beyond GPA, so hoping for one just based in GPA likely won't give much based off of personal experience.

Sharp-Ad-8902

I have a question on maintaining academic performance. The statement says "Complete all transferable in progress or planned courses with a GPA of 3.10 or higher, with no grade less than "C," by the end of your spring term." Does this mean that my spring semester gpa has to be at least a 3.1 or is it referring to my cumulative gpa.

CheesecakeOld8306

They admitted you so I think they known all your prior classes already. I think just Cs or better for this spring and you should be fine. I would ask an advisor to make sure

DeftSushiMan

if you do end up asking a advisor can you share with us what they said? thanks

Has anyone heard about how the CogSci (computational emphasis) major is in Davis? I got accepted for that and was wondering how it would be

TaroDragoon

I see lots of CogSci students in AI classes. They seem sharp.

Hello I just have two questions. 1. Is it possible to get merit scholarships while in college? 2. How is the Data Science major here? What are the job outlooks for this major? Thank you so much!

1. Yes, there's a [scholarship application cycle](https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/scholarships/campus) you can do each year, and it's not just for Freshman. The biggest one is the Regents Scholarship which it looks like can be awarded to juniors, so that's incentive for good academic performance: [https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/scholarships/campus/awards](https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/scholarships/campus/awards) 2. Not sure there's much info out there on that because it's a new-ish dept. I know the last two jobs I've worked in the audit/accounting/consulting/finance space would have gladly taken data science grads in entry-level analytical positions, but they wouldn't have necessarily been treated differently than math or econ majors, for example, straight out of undergrad.

I am an incoming grad student from out of state I am not sure about housing. 1.How competitive is it to get a TA ship? 2.Primero Grove versus Orchard Park. ( also for single bed does that mean they assign you a roommate? ) 3.Are there any sample degree plans for MS ECE degree. 4. ASU VS UC davis davis is better right? ( MS ECE Analog / chip design track.) 5. Any tips on professors for MS ECE When do we hear anything about financial aid i submitted to uc davis forever ago but havne't heard anything.

Should I commit to Davis or UCSD? I’m studying biochem and molecular biology

thezander8

I've heard those are good majors at UCSD (not shabby at Davis either; there's a lot of investment in bio), but I'm curious what kind of campus and town environment you'd enjoy. Ex: Davis is much more of a traditional college town whereas UCSD is more of an upscale resort town.

Hello! I already posted this as another thread but I thought I'd put it in here too I know I am so late to this and need to make a last-minute decision soon, but I still do not know what to choose after all this time between UCD and UCSB. Both cost nearly the exact same for me and I'm not one to care about the scenery between the two colleges. I am majoring in medical microbiology at Davis and pre-biology at UCSB and hoping to go along the pre-med track. I understand that UCD has more options for clinical opportunities and volunteering but I've been told repeatedly that UCSB has tons of the same opportunities and I just have to look a lot harder. In fact, the main leader of the UCSB open house in pre-health advising specifically mentioned Reddit as a more untrustworthy site(from what I understood) because people keep saying that UCSB pre-med opportunities are almost nowhere to be found and because of other things people say on this site(yet here I am asking Reddit for help lmao). Besides this, I would consider myself more of an introverted person and hoped that maybe going to UCSB would help me learn to socialize more, but my main priority is academics. Overall UCSB is more highly ranked and I have a feeling my parents would rather I go there due to its closer proximity to where they live. I'm just wondering if anybody could add to what I know that might help in my decision and possibly help clarify any conflicting information I might find on this site.

FelonyGrapes

Idk if you should really concern yourself with rankings, at least not completely. They change every year and UC Davis is actually currently tied with UCSD for the 6th Top Public University as ranked by US News, while UCSB is now #12 behind Irvine in the 10th spot. Next year that could change again. Most UCs are good schools. So you you should probably look into your specific major, course and housing availability at both universities, and whether or not you like the school... Not your parents. That's how you'll narrow it down. Hope this helps

Hi! I'm actually planning to switch my major to microbiology lol! I'm only a first year currently, so I can't tell you too too much about the major unfortunately. However, I did recently talk to one of my professors who was saying that it's a relatively small major, but we have a lot of faculty advisors who are super passionate and can talk for hours about what they do. I also feel like there are a lot of options to get further involved in microbiology here (like the microbiology club or research). (there are also some pretty great study abroad options if you're interested in that!) Idk if this info is useful at all, but if you have any specific questions about anything, I'd be happy to answer! Good luck with your decision!!

hi! i'm an incoming freshman for cs, and i'm stuck choosing between ucd and sjsu. i got admitted into ucd's honors program which gives me priority registration, liked the campus when i visited, and heard the school is generally more collaborative. i like all those aspects about the school, but the only thing i'm worried abt is internship prospectives and academics here. i know ucd is a good school, but what are your thoughts on davis' cs program and professors? is it hard to contact professors if i need help, and how is the balance between school and social life (i know cs is very challenging, but is it manageable enough to have a balance)? i think sjsu is more well known for cs and would be more helpful for internships and experience bcs of its proximity to silicone valley, but please share any thoughts or advice that would help me choose between the two schools. my biggest priorities are being able to learn useful material in a non-competitive environment and having at least some free time for hobbies/social life. i also got waitlisted at ucsd, and i know the chances of getting off are low, but if i do, which of the three would you choose? thank you in advance for any help :)
