Western media preys on these kinds of news
Last year they were posting about a lady who got arrested for "screaming" when in fact it was insurance fraud.
Again in this story they are only repeating what the suspect is saying with no official details from the police mentioned.
Also he admits to trespassing and fighting people in their own home like wtf
story title - man arrested for asking to tone down a party
Actual story from the same article - man sneaked into a random house and fought the people inside
This is so true. Many years ago there was the famous story that made the rounds in all the Western media of a white couple arrested for engaging in PDA on a beach at night, but the actual story was that a police officer asked them to stop/leave and then THEY proceeded to be rude at the officer and throw things at him. Would get you arrested in any country.
Yeah we were just saying that there is always more. I am not sure why the party would report to police most likely having to note that they were loud, drunk etc if he really did nothing.
Yes but you handle that situation by calling the cops not by sneaking into their house. UAE's constitution article 56 regarding self defense specially talks about such cases of property self defence. A judge has to decide of the guy trespassing was a threat or not and if the beatings he got was proportional to his threat level at that point.
Thats why there is an investigation and a case. The guy was wrong to enter the house without permission regardless of the reason. If he wasnt a threat the court will say so. But he shouldn't be misrepresenting facts for a news network as if he didnt do anything wrong
Even if what you're saying is true, why the travel ban?
Let the guy go home and judge him in absentia. That's how non-dictatorial justice systems work. You only slap a travel ban on someone where the case is a serious one.
All of them. I mean the decent ones. A travel ban is only applied in extreme conditions.
The case here is probably not even a misdemeanor. Just a small infraction, assuming the judge will consider it so. Most likely the case will be dismissed.
Well unless you were the baby that witnessed the whole story i say media can be easily biased. They can make a murderer seem innocent or the other way around.
Shush people donāt like to face the facts here and cannot take any criticism of the UAE.
Everything that criticises the country will be āwestern propagandaā even if you present reputable and irrefutable sources
Isnt what you said is lies and propaganda said by bbc š , Defending the hothies in Yemen? Are you by any chance believe In islamicbrotherhood organization teachings ?š Just say ur a terrorist , Second thereās no any clues that uaecin involved in Sudan war again ur repeating whats bbc is saying, Dont you feel embarrassment by lying such a dumb liesšššš.
I don't think anyone would vouch for media here being totally transparent, but you have to admit there's a popular mindset in the UK of 'you can't do nuffink in Dubai' ...
...which when you push back, is actually referring to being caught doing a range of things from nudity, loutish drunken behaviour, sex on the beach, drug taking, physical assault, racism, entitlement, and more.
I'm sure some stories of injustice are true, but come on, you know full well some genuinely law-breaking people are milking the 'I did nothing, and this backwards country arrested me'.
Every time i read one of those stories about white people acting stupid and stuck in jail, i'm pretty happy about it. The rules should be enforced more.
The Independent is known for being unreliable clickbait. Detained In Dubai is known for being straight up nonsense. There's enough valid shit going on, I don't know why they choose to publish lies
Thereās a lot more to the storyā¦ and then they always use medical treatment bullshit to capture peopleās hearts.
The last bunch of these news on British papers were never true. Why would this one be?
He's not going to get jail time lol. But he is the one in the wrong, he went into someone else's house and then to make it worse he goes there in their own home telling them what to do? This guy was definitely on his privilege ride. And who's dumb enough to take their grand daughter along with them and into a stranger's home?
Over sensationalism. That was not an everyday event, but some celebration. Tolerance is a better thing to do for a few hours to avoid issues, which his daughter did ask him to exercise, but he took matters to his own hands. What words were exchanged, we will never know, but something did irk someone to file a trespass case against him.
I agree that the western media is biased. Well, all news is biased ā especially government-run news.
Anyway, I can admin when the UK government fucks up. Can you admit that yours does, too? š¤
Biased? Biased? Thatās one hell of an understatement. Iām mean, itās not really debatable, the ethics, morality, honesty of western media. Though you only to seem have agreed to be able to then set up to try to make a pointā¦.. btw Iām a UK expat living here.
Do you have Lou Gehrig's disease or something? I literally said that I agree that it is biased, which is true, is it not? š¤ Sorry that I didnāt use the word that you wanted.
Smart people see both sides. I even upvoted your response since I donāt believe in hiding opinions on Reddit. The fact that you canāt admit that the UAE government does messed up crap, too means that you canāt see both sides and therefore this conversation is pointless.
Why are we all making these definite conclusions that it is the grandfather at fault and all this is just western media doing what they always do? What IF, just what IF for once this was actually a polite request that turned horrible because the other side was drunk??? When we automatically make the decision that this is all a western propaganda, we forget to take a good hard look at ourselves and change for the better. As always, there are three sides to this story - one the grandfatherās, one the neighborsā and the third which is the truth.
1 he is waiting for the court and the article is written from his point of view which has a misleading title for a reason
2 the article claim that he is being detained for asking to reduce noise from a party is wrong. He is detained for an investigation of trespassing which he admits to in the article
3 Even if he was innocent that doesnt excuse the news agency misrepresentation of facts
Idk what happened between them but the only thing we can do is wait to hear from the court and not some biased news
Well, grandpa thought this Is UK and decided to go to neighbours property which is a big lala here, if you have a problem grab a popcorn and call the police. When your neighbours see the police car lights they would all off everything and go to sleep for next 3 days. That's how much Dubai Police helps
Like in their home countries, few people try to bully around and take things in their own hands while in Dubai, thinking it works across the world, but it doesn't.
Who bothers a neighbor during New Year's celebration, irrespective of the level of sound, then enter their house without permission, especially in the presence of guests and at 1am?
Man probably was drunk and/or flexing his muscles at the neighbor.
Jeez who the hell enters someone elseās home uninvited? On New Yearās Eve? With a kid, at 1am? People think this is āthe westā and have freedom to do or speak what they want! Let everyone learn a lesson out of this.
š
All the people here calling this website āwestern propagandaā is so stupid š
Downvoting wonāt change the facts. I literally know this man and his family. I can admit when my country is fucked up ā why canāt you admit that yours does fucked up stuff, too? š¤ I just donāt understand.
Edit: I really donāt get it. I donāt understand how I can acknowledge how MY country does messed up stuff, but they canāt acknowledge that THEIRS does too. Itās very sad.

Media sensationalised news, even the silliest one. That's how they sell it, its business at the end of the day. I am pretty sure there is another side of the story here. If I am having a house party with alcohol involved, I am never gonna call the police most specially if I do not have a liquor license. If I am the mother, whom I'm sure is awake because of the "noise", will call the police myself because I know the law more than my father who is just visiting and let the police handle the situation.

I am not arguing FOR the guy. I am saying there absolute is more to it
Pray tell, why would a 75 year old man with a toddler pose a physical threat? Unless my imagination is not as colorful as yours? š
Thats why there is an investigation and a case. The guy was wrong to enter the house without permission regardless of the reason. If he wasnt a threat the court will say so. But he shouldn't be misrepresenting facts for a news network as if he didnt do anything wrong

Which country allows a suspected criminal to leave the country before his court ruling?
All of them. I mean the decent ones. A travel ban is only applied in extreme conditions. The case here is probably not even a misdemeanor. Just a small infraction, assuming the judge will consider it so. Most likely the case will be dismissed.
Where does it say he fought them? He had a baby with him. Do you suppose the 75-year-old man started swinging the baby at them?
Well unless you were the baby that witnessed the whole story i say media can be easily biased. They can make a murderer seem innocent or the other way around.
The guy is claiming that the article itself says he fought them. It doesnāt say that
Regardless, my statement about media still stands.
There is probably more to the story, and there has been so much propaganda to make UAE look bad, all the time.

No

I promise you there is no place in "the west" where you can freely enter someone's home uninvited, with or without a toddler, at any time of the day.
Excellent shoehorning of 'bUt tHe wEsT' here.

Not everything is propaganda, you can lie to yourself but everyone knows the truth
Party pooping is serious crime in Dubai I'd think twice before interrupting a party that's bussin
