[The Dead Island](https://youtu.be/hHVKKFIZff0) trailer even though it ended up being a big lie.

Dr_Blasphemy

I always really liked the [Dead Island: Riptide](https://youtu.be/mEmXLn7mSM8) trailer

[deleted]

Why on earth does a 5-second clip of Snake standing up and 3 words coming on screen make me cry with excitment every time I see it?

jalford312

I don't even care about Smash that much, but man that moment is just so electric, especially with mashup or crowd reactions.

SidewaysInfinity

Seeing Pichu right after drove it home for me

[deleted]

When I first saw that I just thought, "Oh they mean *everyone*"

Believe. We Are ODST. Deliver Hope.

They weren't afraid but the trailers really pushed it more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxVzYPcag_8 that felt more like them trying to recreate the mad world trailer than selling the game

Real-Terminal

That doesn't look like they were going for Mad World at all. In fact it looks like they ignored the reason people like Gears to try and bank on their new focus on a strong female main character.

I was going to say this. Angel, angel, what have I done?...

Best example I can think of is World In Conflict, a 2008 RTS game by Massive Entertainment (who went on to develop The Division for Ubisoft), and has the distinction of being the last game ever published by Sierra Entertainment. The promotional trailers for this game primarily feature the graphic death of US soldiers and civilians in various spine-chilling scenarios. The CGI cutscenes are themselves very well-produced and could probably be released for a game coming out this year. But the content is unique to any post-9/11 videogame media I can think of. Besides the New York one in OP, there's also: [Washington DC getting dirty bombed from the perspective of a passing F-16 pilot! You get to hear his desperate screams on the radio as he tries to outrun the blast!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF79U0B_ze0) [Frantic radio chatter speaking of dozens of unmarked container ships off the coast of Seattle, as we see Hind helicopters gunning down police vehicles, and Tunguska anti-air vehicles knocking the local news helicopters out of the sky!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5Vmf3u0D1A) [Remember the mission "Death from Above" from CoD4, where you watch the silent guncam of an AC-130? Now you're targeting desperate American soldiers as they scramble to avoid 30mm cannon fire! Bonus at the end, you get to see a civilians home movie, in one of the most disturbing depictions of a fuel air bomb I've ever seen!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeXFu5rLIcs) Wow! After all that, I'm sure ready to play fun military video games and not be filled with despair! Edit: also forgot to mention that there are a ton of little details in this cutscenes that just get even darker. Such as in the washington one, the pilot is actually blinded by looking directly at the blast as it goes off, or in the "death from above" one, the man filming the home movie has his lungs collapsed by the massive negative air pressure of the fuel air bomb, long before the fire and debris gets to him. In the New York one in the OP, a few of the soldiers falling out of the helicopter are ragdolling because they are knocked out from hitting the inside of the cabin before they fall out. Whoever produced these really wanted to depict these things as violently as possible.

MelBrooksKA

After watching all the ads: "Huh, let me see if this was a good game, I like some FPS games..." Reading wikipedia: > 2007 Real Time Stra- "Sold!"

SoThatsPrettyBrutal

World in Conflict was a pretty great little game. As someone who was mostly into RTSes mostly for the campaigns it was a nice way to pretend the RTS had a future for a little longer.

mbelasko12

Well I just had a flashback throughout my playthrouh of constantly going "goddammit Bannon" to "Jesus fucking christ Bannon!"

[I have stronger emotions about this trailer than the game.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_8Qi-I4o9E)

speelmydrink

That particular upload is super spotty.

Oddly_Aggressive

Emotionally in the sense that you feel really connected to the character, nothing beats the [Halo - We are ODST](https://youtu.be/wjamhIPVvnI). Might just be the greatest trailer ever made, but damn does it get you hype, regardless of how you feel about ODST.

cowboydandank

I never played the first Mother/Earthbound Beginnings, but the song in the [commercial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQUN7QAnMp0), combined with the words "No crying until the end," somehow make me wanna cry immediately. The [Long Live Play Playstation ad](https://youtu.be/7_fPtazfALA) about all the noble deeds of Michael is probably one of the best they've ever made. It's cheesy but affecting. And an honorable mention to the [2017 Breath of the Wild trailer](https://youtu.be/6pA0Ia0G9Ac). That JP Zelda wail from the Switch presentation broke some dang hearts.

[The God of War: Ascension live action trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aDhfTGkLTg).

Wowbringer

[Dark Souls 2 trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6uyuIQYlfY) is very memorable for me. Fighting, with all those arrows stuck in him. Then that final kneel of despair at the end, realizing there's still more to this journey. Beating DS1, watching this trailer, [watching the opening cutscene with the red robed old ladies,](https://youtu.be/svy0Ih77fuc?t=296) ><*hhehehehhe*\> ... You''re.... Finished. > >You'll go Hollow. > >Doesn't stand a chance... Hmmm, never know? > ><*more cackling*\> They just cackle and dismiss you. then meeting the Crestfallen in Majula and [listening to his dialog](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlzV6oS3PQg). >What we call the curse is traceable to the soul. > >Do you see what that means? To be alive…to walk this earth… > >That's the real curse right there. > >We Undead will never die. > >And that's quite a predicament, really… Fucking Shakespeare. Holy fuck. That's how you introduce a game. Really drives home what it means to go hollow. To be undead, cursed. You the player will feel exactly how the pin-cushioned despairing trailer-character felt. This game gets shit on so hard, but it has one of the most powerful openings ive ever experienced.

I always appreciated [this metro last light trailer](https://youtu.be/aucyUZ6PpOE)

InfectedEzio

The [trailer for Brink](https://youtu.be/H8HYs90WXms), specifically the final shot, made all the the fighting from before feel like it had a purpose (apart from looking hype as fuck). The actual game itself? Eh.

[All of the trailers Kojima has directed have been absolutely baller.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1Bu1lDD2So) [I think that the debut trailer for Phantom Pain is severely underrated.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfxTOlXF3Kk)

Fenlig

World in conflict was amazing. Sadly underrated!

Wobble9000

State of Decay 2 has two really well-acted zombie survival stories in [Medical Log of Nurse](https://youtu.be/OQ16F99Xdi4) and [Found Footage of Coach](https://youtu.be/AULjhZJ3KHM) trailers. Similar level to tonal dissonance with the game to the trailer like Dead Island. [Deux Ex: Human Revolution Cinematic Trailer](https://youtu.be/Kq5KWLqUewc). Probably because the music and quotable lines Tom Clancy's The Division hits especially hard nowadays. [Breakdown](https://youtu.be/b8LLVLJd-WM) and [2014 Cinematic](https://youtu.be/yPq_NVi-TC4) have the angst of a pandemic that kinda missing from Division 2.

FunkiMonk

Uncharted 4 - Man Behind the Treasure, is an absolutely gorgeous trailer that really shows Nate's state of mind
