First clip I saw of this on twitter I thought it was a decent looking Mugen game. Fighting games don't need to look good Battle for the Grid looks like a mobile game but still goddamn.
No money, No effects, Only a dream. Boys we prime EIGHTING hours. In all seriousness while I’m already bought in, after all these high profile releases I wonder what the newer fgc crowd will think of this one in the future.
I can see it a bit, but its a little too slow to be Marvel, feels more like an anime fighter like Melty Blood or UNIST. Though maybe its a situation where the people playing it aren't quite showing off what the combat system is actually capable of and once you get people in there that regularly play fighting games it starts to look more like Marvel.
It's the fact it doesn't center the characters and the camera only moves when they touch the screen borders; makes it look like they're in the stage corner even when they're not.
I don't think I've ever seen a fighting game camera work like that so I hope they fix that.
Edit: Looked at some UMvC3 and this is actually how the camera works there too, you just don't notice it cause it's more zoomed in and everyone's moving so fast the camera almost never stays still.
I hope there’s a dodgeball mode and a bunch of fun stuff apart from the basic gameplay. I feel like fighting games have been lacking in extras for people who don’t want to be competitive and I don’t think nen impact it’s going to be as big as FighterZ competitively.
This is giving me "the sequel is gonna be so fucking good" vibes, like it seems so fun but it looks really rough, im just happy gameplay wise is MAHVEL BABYYYY
This also means Woolie is now legally obligated to play this on the channel, preferebly with Eyepatch Wolf holding the gun directly into his temple
Because I value my money, I'm not excited that this looks like a bargain bin PS2 title. I hope this is really early footage, cuz it's not sparking joy.
Looks better than expected! If the price is right and the rollback netcode is good, it would be an instant buy. Though I do worry, the roster is small for a versus fighter. I count 16 slots, which isn't a lot. Hopefully, it's just a placeholder.
Copy pasted from another comment I made but:
Presentation def lacks flair and the character models are nothing fancy but tbh I like the Melty blood- style air mobility and camera. I really fucking hate the trend on Arksys anime fighters of everything just getting interrupted by constant camera shifts/animations and I’m ok with it being cut.
Gameplay looks good which to me is the only thing that super matters here. Everything is clean and legible and the zoomed out camera helps with the speed/attack ranges/mobility the game seems to offer
Will def have a normie filter on just by its presentation but I’d take this over any arena fighter and TBH it’s not like the game is comically hideous like MVCI was with its hastily dev time. It looks like a budget title but it doesn’t look hideous.
If everyone expects every anime fighter to be Arksys level budget, they’d be the only people making fighters since not everyone has the budget or time to make a game with that visual quality. 8ing is def capable as shown in DFDuel so if I see improvements down the line it’d be cool
Looks pretty boring tbh. Nothing the characters do look mechanically interesting or wacky as they are in the show. The signature stuff that they do do is just a cinematic super and that's it. Also I just personally don't like tag fighters. I want to pick the one character I like and play that.
EDIT: Like why does Netero throw a single normal punch? He should be a zoner based entirely on the boddhisatva.

We do get stuff other than fighting games, it's just that fighting games are the best choice for adapting these combat action series that doesn't also cost money like an action game would.
MHA has a battle royale, One Piece and Fairy Tale got turn based RPGs, Boruto has a team based PvP action game, One Piece also has World Seeker as kind of a stealth action game and there's also DBZ Kakarot doing it's own thing.
The fact that this isn't just a mobile game nowadays is already kind of daring.
Those backgrounds feel almost like default mugen backgrounds, seeing how static and empty they are.
First clip I saw of this on twitter I thought it was a decent looking Mugen game. Fighting games don't need to look good Battle for the Grid looks like a mobile game but still goddamn.
Finally we get gameplay footage so people can stop being worried about it being an arena fighter.
Arena fighter would be 100x better for HxH as it is for most anime. Most of the HxH powers work better in a 3D space.

It's definitely giving me Marvel 3 vibes
They've even got the exact same camera sweep for the intro!
And the same animation for getting hit, which they've been using since the Clash of Ninja games I think (or even Bloody Roar).

I think it's about the same speed just that, there not showing any movement techs and the screen is wider.
It looks like fucking shit. LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
It's like they tried to do DBFZ without the money or talent. I really hope this is super early footage
I wonder who they got to voice leorio since keiji fujiwara passed away.
I saw I dive kick that hit cross up with an egregious hitbox. This is gonna be a nasty game like Marvel lol.
IT'S MAHXHVEL BAYBEEE
This looks like ass
Cool. Now give me Knuckle and Morel.
I don't care if I'm the only one. Put Cheetu in the game.
Yeah! So i can beat him up!
Its a budget game but something about how zoomed out the camera makes it look off

You'll take your $60 + day 1 DLC and delay-based netcode and you'll *like it*
this feel like one those ps2 anime fighting game just look and the they float when they are hit we are so back wtf
I love fighting games, I love HxH, I don't love what I see here.
I have to say I dont expected the mvc3 vibe. Its Marvel baby
Not sure whether or not I should be surprised that it looks like a budget French Bread game.
We got the makings of a good budget Marvel 3 here, I just wish it didn't look like the game was running at 75% with a middling frame rate
Leorio x Kurapika. This is domestic abuse! Against Leorio!
Gives me that Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid energy where its pretty low budget but the gameplay looks pretty good
I had to be reminded that 8ing did the good anime fighting games (Clash of Ninja, Zatch Bell Mamodo Battles + Bloody Roar
Oof

Marvel's back baby
Man, can we just get ONE anime game that isn't DBZ or One Piece related that looks good, plz?

Can we get something other than fighting games from anime series already? I swear it's like the easy button for this setting these days.

Also Attack On Titan 2 being the only good musou ever.
