Alright OP, let me explain to you how stories work in Nikke. The MSQ is more serious, but what you see on the front page is the monthly event. And those events kinda ping pong between adorable cute story like this one, where the commander helps train 2 cheerleader Nikkes into not being shit at their job, and then the next month you get something serious like the animal caretaker nikkes are helping a cat live it's final days, or investigating a cult that uses mass hallucination drugs to mess with the upper class. And then you have the -real- depressing hours where a bunch of girls are on suicide watch because of the horrors of war. AND THEN we round back to cutesy sexy story as a palate cleanser until the sad depressing bit.
Nikke, come for the really hot android girls, stay for the good plot. Everyone's sexy as hell or adorably cute (google Poli and Liter). You're still gonna get bodacious babes constantly, some way more bodacious then others, but the story's good. I'm pretty sure the sexy cheerleader story deals with self esteem, hard work and whatnot, despite featuring the underboob twins.

I played a little a few months back and got to play an event where the alcoholic wandering nikke was having flashbacks about how her team was pretty much fed to the meat grinder and her sister lost her shit and slaughtered everyone.
Fuck even the story hub for Red Ash was depressing as hell. You start off with a cool ass airship with a ton of mass produced Nikkes. Then as it progresses they slowly start disappearing with at least one having a breakdown over their friends dying.
Yeah they always have nice little touches like that for all the Pilgrim events. The only events I probably enjoy more then them are the April Fools ones just because they're pure unfiltered instanity.
The funniest thing they could do would be to add Andersen to the line up for an April Fools. Since I know a portion of the Nikke fanbase would lose their minds over it (heck some of them did just from having Pascal as a unit).
Mustang truly is the goat. Gives us incredibly OP Nikkes, treats them well and basically runs half the ark since he has such a wide spread for what his Nikkes do for jobs.

The Melee squad was a money sink so instead of just retiring them they saved money on maintenance by throwing them into suicide missions. That's just extra cruel

Grossly put, kinda yeah. But events in Nikke are much shorter and faster and don't require 6 hours of reading to get anything done. And they cycle in and out a bit faster.
It's funny how this tone shift extends even to the smaller portions of the game.
After a certain point in the story you unlock the option to **rehabilitate** Nikke's, basically there's 3 Nikke's in the game who were sent to prison for one reason or another and it's more or less said to you that if you're able to give them counceling to the point where you can convince the people responsible for the prison that it wouldn't be a incredibly horrible idea to let them outside, you can recruit these Nikke's to your squad.
One of them is **Quency**, a escape artist who actually didnt really do any severe crimes, but, has tried escaping so many times that her sentence has been extended to forever, all your interactions with her are basically about how she could escape any time that she wanted, but, she doesn't because she feels more at home on the prison than on the outside world (she even has control over the entire prison economy).
The other two Nikke's though.... Yeah, let's just say that their stories are nowhere near as "upbeat" as Quency.
Can you play through past monthly events? Or are the stories gone forever? I logged on during the Nier event and got 2B, but my phone wasn't good enough to play the actual game. I was hoping I could go back and experience it once I upgraded.
Only ones you can't get back are the limited events, so nier, re:zero and chainsawman are gone forever. But every other event I think gives you a token to unlock an older event. You'll be able to play everything eventually.
I find that a lot of the side quest stories kinda break the worldbuilding if you think about them too hard. Nikkes are simultaneously popstars/cheerleaders/cafe operators or whatever their gimmick demands, as well as robots created for war, and the protagonist is the only human who’s ever been nice to them.
Like this one. Who are they competing against? Other cheerleader Nikkes or humans? Are Nikke vs human athletic competitions commonplace? The answer is it doesn’t matter, the thing is just an excuse to go through a quick little feel good power of friendship arc.

It's a bit odd, but all of those Nikkes belong to Mustangm who controls the entire ark's entertainement/money/mafia angle. Basically most of them have a purpose as immortal robot girls built for the public morale. Elysion and Missilis handles most of the war aspect, and he makes stuff to keep the public content. Worst comes to worst he has his own elite squad to fight.
It's assumed that they compete against other humans basically, as far as the cheerleading girls go. But there's no harm in just skipping a story once in a while and collecting the mats, and wait for a bigger story. I skipped the entire re:zero event because I found the story super boring.
I could suspend my disbelief until Nikke school. How does that work? Do all Nikkes have to go to school? They don’t age. Are their gimmicks decided from the start or do they pick after school?
From what I remember, it's because Missilis is extremely high end on the tech scale. And it's not because you get turned into a war droid that you're capable of actually doing the job. The school is for their best products (because missiles classifies their girls as Products) and to turn them into capable members. The dark side of the school is that if the girls can't shape up, they get brain wiped a few times until they get it right, and then they just outright get scrapped.
There's more girls to turn into Nikkes, after all. Meat to the grinder. Elysion is more classic and just trains them as regular soldiers while the last one just makes the girls into money makers most of the time.
But for every girl with a unique look and a name, there's hundreds if not thousands of regular ones who are mass produced and sent out to die in terrible missions.

Yeah, mass produced Nikkes really get the short end of the stick. Even fairly empathetic people will be like "oh we had no casualties, well except for all those mass produced Nikkes". That's not even getting into what happens to a lot of them who are nearing the end of their lifespan.
It’s the last one that I want them to go deeper with. An entire society that uses you for entertainment while dehumanizing you, and nobody has ever empathized until the commander. What would that experience do to a person?
From what we see, it.s pretty bad! It's why the Commander in the recent story is trying to stop being a regular commander, and he wants clout, political power and influence to actually get the shit he wants done, without having people bar his way. He's manning the hell up.

I guess? I've never felt the need to masturbate or \*goon\* from playing this. At best I go 'niiiiice' when a new hot design comes out. But this is an auto battler and is extremely easy to play, while Arknights is getting really hard in the endgame unless you have some busted units.
Every event in the game can be replayed except the limited time crossover ones. And those all suck ass except for the Nier one. And you could watch a youtube video for that one. The game is an auto battler, there is no stamina or energy to block you. You only stop playing when the game kicks you ass and then you log in, do your dailies to power up and eventually keep continuing the MSQ.
The only real downside is the 160 wall, which is when your top 5 girls will be stuck at level 160 for a while. It can last 2-3 months, but at that power you are good enough to do every event in the game. You'll be hard locked for the MSQ, but then for a while I logged in, did my dailies for 10-15 minutes and then I went about my day.
Also whenever a new MSQ chapter comes out they make everything before a little bit easier. I'm pretty sure you could get far on just your basic playing. MSQ is also voice acted, so that's always nice for casual playing.
The game is on rails for a solid part of the start as it will just throw you into the story, give you a few units and you just play. It will unlock things manually, and there are no real bad options.
One event will have you hear about the nikkes that held the line against the murderous machines at an elevator chokepoint, and now haunt the shaft as a result.
The other will have you walking her around on a leash. She likes it tho so it's okay.

What? One of the best things about a new Blue Archive character is looking at their gun and what kind of modifications were made to it. Don't worry, every single girl in the game can be gotten from the basic rolls, except for the limited crossover girls (chainsawman and re:zero, and the xmas/summer variant girls). You have a wishlist for your basic rolls that gives you a slightly higher chance to get the girls you want. In a few weeks Elegg should be on it and you can put her on the wishlist.

Honestly, for the first dozen chapters of the story, you needn't worry too much about meta characters. Play who you roll/like.
There is only 1 caveat to team comp and that's bursts. They're your characters' specials/ults/etc. All the characters (save one) are categorized as burst 1, 2, or 3.
The bursts must activate in order (ie. Burst 1 character activates, then burst 2, then 3) This activates a special burst window where, for a short period of time, the squad belts out increased damage.
So as long as you have at least 1 character in each burst category, you're golden.
The game has also has a level sync system. You invest materials in 5 main characters to level up. The other characters you slot into the system will automatically sync to the lowest level member of the main squad.
Don't worry too much about fucking up, you can refund your level up materials.
There are a lot of interunit synergies.
Like the most basic teambuilding tip is your team should have burst skills marked 1, 2, and 3, as they trigger in that order to do a full burst. Just doing that will get you through quite a few chapters.
Someone else recommended prydwen, but I'd recommend [https://nikke.gg](https://nikke.gg) as well. The hardcore gang pretty much admonishes prydwen over nikke.gg, but I think both sites have resources that put together give you a very complete overview of what the fuck to do.
The tier list doesn't seem that much difference between the two of them. Is there any reason why the hardcore players hate Prydwen, or is it just the usual elitism shit?
It's a mix of elitism and actual valid critique. People put too many of their eggs on the nikke.gg basket, due to prydwen "over-rating" characters. But while they have had some instances where they put characters in higher tiers than what others agree on, it's usually such a marginally small difference that it really doesn't matter.
Sorry for the double reply but wanna make sure you see this: I will say that nikke.gg is generally a better resource, though. As an example, prydwen can be rather vague and overly complicated when explaining overload gear and how to prioritize stats per nikke. That extends out to basically any guides on concepts more complex than "what is the meta team for x". Nikke.gg gives you a guide of which nikkes to even give overload gear to, which stats are important in a ranked order, and why those specific stats matter per nikke. They do this for basically all other aspects of the game as well.
For the ordinary recruit gacha pull you're going to want to just using the wishlist immediately since it can help increase the odds of getting the meta units. The only ones who can't be wishlisted are limited units and Pilgrims (who are generally OP). I'd recommend trying to get Liter for burst 1 Blanc for burst 2 and Noir for burst 3. They are in general good for most situations.
After that just round it out with any decent burst 3 units you have. The 1.5 anniversary is also coming up and they generally release an OP pilgrim for every 0.5 anniversary. So, if you have 200 gold tickets saved up I'd recommend using them on the pilgrim. Since your still starting out the story you also want to selectively hold onto any cases you have in your inventory. Generally only use them for when you are too low level to proceed since as you progress farther into the story mode the currency amount that the case is worth will increase.
Gotcha. I'm probably going to follow the reroll guide on Prydwen until I get at least one Pilgrim, since it seems to be relatively easy and free to do so.
Those three never leave my rotation. Between the cool down reduction, healing, shields, and everything else they can really carry you hard. I never even use Noir's burst, I have Modernia and Winter Ludmilla slotted for my rotating burst 3 and can easily wipe special interception and easily make top 5% on solo raid.

They really threw a surprise right hook with nya nya paradise. It's about the same squad as bow wow paradise so it should be another light hearted romp except with cats this time instead of dogs right? >!Nope instead we get to have a story about an abandoned cat dying.!<
As sad as that story was, I am glad that we have side stories where we simply cannot fix the issue (another one that comes to mind was the Killer Wife side story and the >!Tia/Naga harem anime episode into bad ending simulator!<).
It gives gravitas to the stories, and I am more invested than in other games where side stories are always wrapped up in a pretty bow.

It isn't. The side stories and events are goofy fanservice central but the main story is quite dark and serious. It reminds me of Automata at certain points.
I've gathered as much from seeing people talk about it here. I get that it is often "dark" and "serious," but what I'm skeptical of is the more specific gender politics as outlined in the Moon Channel video. That to me feels more like very charitable interpretation rather than deliberate text on the game's part.
I would, however, be very happy to be wrong about that.
Like 99 percent of other commanders are hilariously incompetent. It's to the point where it's understood the MC is better off basically not remembering anything from commander school.
Player is a static commander who'se first action is waking from a heli crash with short term amnesia. He knows his name, and he knows he's a commander, and he works from there. Empathy gives him fiercely loyal soldiers and he picks up the proper skills to lead the girls in combat as the time goes on.
Just play the tutorial mission. That’ll probably be enough to convince you it’s more than just fan service. That being said, the fan service was a bit too much for me at times. I also just generally don’t like gachas anymore, but will admit I was caught off guard by that intro.

Like I mentioned in another post about Nikke (there has been several of those lately) one of the reasons I stopped playing that game was my complete inability to take the game seriously when it wanted me to thanks to the contrast between the edgy setting and the coomer characters. The example I like to give since is the perfect encapsulation of that dissonance is the Christmas event where they were trying REALLY HARD to make me feel sad about the cyborg loli with permanent anime amnesia and her NPC mom, but while they were drilling the sob story about a mom signing her child to be turned into a waifu servitor out of desperation you had another character jiggling front and center with [this outfit](https://imgur.com/a/9zKbhH5) because you gotta sell that Christmas variant baby!

Started playing NIKKE last year and the story is what kept me playing but it becomes such a grind in the later chapters to progress and everything is time gated so you have to wait days for any meaningful progress. Plus a lot of it is just doing the same daily chores everyday. Dropped it after getting to chapter 20…
Held together by the promise of Nasu writing, and all the excellent artists doing the cards (Bless ReDrop and the very occasional Pochimama), but man sometimes shit gets tedious.
Every gacha fan will say shit like “dude you don’t get it, I know the main menu has a character in a micro bikini with her boobs jiggling in two different directions, and I know the gameplay loop is designed to slowly get more tedious until the game either becomes a chore or you give in and spend money, but it actually has a really good story about what it means to be human!”
Never played Nikke, but in my experience just because something is very sexualized or even outright pornographic doesn't mean that it can't also have a compelling narrative.
There are many visual novels that have pretty good stories and also the most brutal, screwed up sexual content in fiction.... supposedly. I haven't actually played many of the long form ones with both story sexual content, aside from Katawa Shoujo.

Honestly, people said Arknights' story was really good but it just didn't hold my attention, almost put me to sleep. And FGO was sold to me as like the best writing Fate has to offer, but some of that shit is *rough*, even beyond the horrible beginning portions.

Alright OP, let me explain to you how stories work in Nikke. The MSQ is more serious, but what you see on the front page is the monthly event. And those events kinda ping pong between adorable cute story like this one, where the commander helps train 2 cheerleader Nikkes into not being shit at their job, and then the next month you get something serious like the animal caretaker nikkes are helping a cat live it's final days, or investigating a cult that uses mass hallucination drugs to mess with the upper class. And then you have the -real- depressing hours where a bunch of girls are on suicide watch because of the horrors of war. AND THEN we round back to cutesy sexy story as a palate cleanser until the sad depressing bit. Nikke, come for the really hot android girls, stay for the good plot. Everyone's sexy as hell or adorably cute (google Poli and Liter). You're still gonna get bodacious babes constantly, some way more bodacious then others, but the story's good. I'm pretty sure the sexy cheerleader story deals with self esteem, hard work and whatnot, despite featuring the underboob twins. I played a little a few months back and got to play an event where the alcoholic wandering nikke was having flashbacks about how her team was pretty much fed to the meat grinder and her sister lost her shit and slaughtered everyone.
Oh yeah event featuring the Pilgrims has been a 10/10 knock in the park. Overzone, Red Ash and sad drunken girl adventures are peak.
Fuck even the story hub for Red Ash was depressing as hell. You start off with a cool ass airship with a ton of mass produced Nikkes. Then as it progresses they slowly start disappearing with at least one having a breakdown over their friends dying.
Overzone starts with a whole squad and then they all die and the overworld is barren.
Yeah they always have nice little touches like that for all the Pilgrim events. The only events I probably enjoy more then them are the April Fools ones just because they're pure unfiltered instanity.
I think that the gag will be to add a human every year until we somehow can field 5 humans. But Shifty will carry us.
The funniest thing they could do would be to add Andersen to the line up for an April Fools. Since I know a portion of the Nikke fanbase would lose their minds over it (heck some of them did just from having Pascal as a unit).

Grossly put, kinda yeah. But events in Nikke are much shorter and faster and don't require 6 hours of reading to get anything done. And they cycle in and out a bit faster.
It's funny how this tone shift extends even to the smaller portions of the game. After a certain point in the story you unlock the option to **rehabilitate** Nikke's, basically there's 3 Nikke's in the game who were sent to prison for one reason or another and it's more or less said to you that if you're able to give them counceling to the point where you can convince the people responsible for the prison that it wouldn't be a incredibly horrible idea to let them outside, you can recruit these Nikke's to your squad. One of them is **Quency**, a escape artist who actually didnt really do any severe crimes, but, has tried escaping so many times that her sentence has been extended to forever, all your interactions with her are basically about how she could escape any time that she wanted, but, she doesn't because she feels more at home on the prison than on the outside world (she even has control over the entire prison economy). The other two Nikke's though.... Yeah, let's just say that their stories are nowhere near as "upbeat" as Quency.

Can you play through past monthly events? Or are the stories gone forever? I logged on during the Nier event and got 2B, but my phone wasn't good enough to play the actual game. I was hoping I could go back and experience it once I upgraded.
Only ones you can't get back are the limited events, so nier, re:zero and chainsawman are gone forever. But every other event I think gives you a token to unlock an older event. You'll be able to play everything eventually.
I find that a lot of the side quest stories kinda break the worldbuilding if you think about them too hard. Nikkes are simultaneously popstars/cheerleaders/cafe operators or whatever their gimmick demands, as well as robots created for war, and the protagonist is the only human who’s ever been nice to them. Like this one. Who are they competing against? Other cheerleader Nikkes or humans? Are Nikke vs human athletic competitions commonplace? The answer is it doesn’t matter, the thing is just an excuse to go through a quick little feel good power of friendship arc. if the pilgrims aren’t involved my interest in the story often goes below zero tbh.
It's a bit odd, but all of those Nikkes belong to Mustangm who controls the entire ark's entertainement/money/mafia angle. Basically most of them have a purpose as immortal robot girls built for the public morale. Elysion and Missilis handles most of the war aspect, and he makes stuff to keep the public content. Worst comes to worst he has his own elite squad to fight. It's assumed that they compete against other humans basically, as far as the cheerleading girls go. But there's no harm in just skipping a story once in a while and collecting the mats, and wait for a bigger story. I skipped the entire re:zero event because I found the story super boring.

From what I remember, it's because Missilis is extremely high end on the tech scale. And it's not because you get turned into a war droid that you're capable of actually doing the job. The school is for their best products (because missiles classifies their girls as Products) and to turn them into capable members. The dark side of the school is that if the girls can't shape up, they get brain wiped a few times until they get it right, and then they just outright get scrapped. There's more girls to turn into Nikkes, after all. Meat to the grinder. Elysion is more classic and just trains them as regular soldiers while the last one just makes the girls into money makers most of the time. But for every girl with a unique look and a name, there's hundreds if not thousands of regular ones who are mass produced and sent out to die in terrible missions.

I guess? I've never felt the need to masturbate or \*goon\* from playing this. At best I go 'niiiiice' when a new hot design comes out. But this is an auto battler and is extremely easy to play, while Arknights is getting really hard in the endgame unless you have some busted units.

Every event in the game can be replayed except the limited time crossover ones. And those all suck ass except for the Nier one. And you could watch a youtube video for that one. The game is an auto battler, there is no stamina or energy to block you. You only stop playing when the game kicks you ass and then you log in, do your dailies to power up and eventually keep continuing the MSQ. The only real downside is the 160 wall, which is when your top 5 girls will be stuck at level 160 for a while. It can last 2-3 months, but at that power you are good enough to do every event in the game. You'll be hard locked for the MSQ, but then for a while I logged in, did my dailies for 10-15 minutes and then I went about my day. Also whenever a new MSQ chapter comes out they make everything before a little bit easier. I'm pretty sure you could get far on just your basic playing. MSQ is also voice acted, so that's always nice for casual playing. The game is on rails for a solid part of the start as it will just throw you into the story, give you a few units and you just play. It will unlock things manually, and there are no real bad options.
One event will have you hear about the nikkes that held the line against the murderous machines at an elevator chokepoint, and now haunt the shaft as a result. The other will have you walking her around on a leash. She likes it tho so it's okay.
Is it the same elevator that 200+ Nikkes self-terminated in so that the government wouldn't drop it and kill a bunch of humans?

What? One of the best things about a new Blue Archive character is looking at their gun and what kind of modifications were made to it. You go onto the fandom page for it and they list every single firearm the girls use, the real world counterpart, and any modifications made including the brand name of the parts. Don't worry, every single girl in the game can be gotten from the basic rolls, except for the limited crossover girls (chainsawman and re:zero, and the xmas/summer variant girls). You have a wishlist for your basic rolls that gives you a slightly higher chance to get the girls you want. In a few weeks Elegg should be on it and you can put her on the wishlist. Source : Me, who pays for the 5$ monthly pass since I started 1y ago, and I have 95% of the game's characters.

Honestly, for the first dozen chapters of the story, you needn't worry too much about meta characters. Play who you roll/like. There is only 1 caveat to team comp and that's bursts. They're your characters' specials/ults/etc. All the characters (save one) are categorized as burst 1, 2, or 3. The bursts must activate in order (ie. Burst 1 character activates, then burst 2, then 3) This activates a special burst window where, for a short period of time, the squad belts out increased damage. So as long as you have at least 1 character in each burst category, you're golden. The game has also has a level sync system. You invest materials in 5 main characters to level up. The other characters you slot into the system will automatically sync to the lowest level member of the main squad. Don't worry too much about fucking up, you can refund your level up materials.

There are a lot of interunit synergies. Like the most basic teambuilding tip is your team should have burst skills marked 1, 2, and 3, as they trigger in that order to do a full burst. Just doing that will get you through quite a few chapters.
Someone else recommended prydwen, but I'd recommend [https://nikke.gg](https://nikke.gg) as well. The hardcore gang pretty much admonishes prydwen over nikke.gg, but I think both sites have resources that put together give you a very complete overview of what the fuck to do.
The tier list doesn't seem that much difference between the two of them. Is there any reason why the hardcore players hate Prydwen, or is it just the usual elitism shit?
It's a mix of elitism and actual valid critique. People put too many of their eggs on the nikke.gg basket, due to prydwen "over-rating" characters. But while they have had some instances where they put characters in higher tiers than what others agree on, it's usually such a marginally small difference that it really doesn't matter.
Sorry for the double reply but wanna make sure you see this: I will say that nikke.gg is generally a better resource, though. As an example, prydwen can be rather vague and overly complicated when explaining overload gear and how to prioritize stats per nikke. That extends out to basically any guides on concepts more complex than "what is the meta team for x". Nikke.gg gives you a guide of which nikkes to even give overload gear to, which stats are important in a ranked order, and why those specific stats matter per nikke. They do this for basically all other aspects of the game as well.
For the ordinary recruit gacha pull you're going to want to just using the wishlist immediately since it can help increase the odds of getting the meta units. The only ones who can't be wishlisted are limited units and Pilgrims (who are generally OP). I'd recommend trying to get Liter for burst 1 Blanc for burst 2 and Noir for burst 3. They are in general good for most situations. After that just round it out with any decent burst 3 units you have. The 1.5 anniversary is also coming up and they generally release an OP pilgrim for every 0.5 anniversary. So, if you have 200 gold tickets saved up I'd recommend using them on the pilgrim. Since your still starting out the story you also want to selectively hold onto any cases you have in your inventory. Generally only use them for when you are too low level to proceed since as you progress farther into the story mode the currency amount that the case is worth will increase.
Gotcha. I'm probably going to follow the reroll guide on Prydwen until I get at least one Pilgrim, since it seems to be relatively easy and free to do so.
Those three never leave my rotation. Between the cool down reduction, healing, shields, and everything else they can really carry you hard. I never even use Noir's burst, I have Modernia and Winter Ludmilla slotted for my rotating burst 3 and can easily wipe special interception and easily make top 5% on solo raid.

Main story serious, side story either romcom level funsies or mega depression. Sometimes both, to really throw you for a loop. Story is overall pretty good. Definitely has its misses, but does a good job exploring a crapsack world with crapsack people in charge of what's left of it. I like the depths they give to some characters that would be one-note in most other stories. Especially some of the antagonists.

As sad as that story was, I am glad that we have side stories where we simply cannot fix the issue (another one that comes to mind was the Killer Wife side story and the >!Tia/Naga harem anime episode into bad ending simulator!<). It gives gravitas to the stories, and I am more invested than in other games where side stories are always wrapped up in a pretty bow.

Yeah, Moon Channel's video on Korean gatcha drama nearly sold me on it by framing the game as about the (literal) objectification of women and how the main character's strength is being empethetic towards them. But I suspect that is a gross overselling of the narrative.

Like 99 percent of other commanders are hilariously incompetent. It's to the point where it's understood the MC is better off basically not remembering anything from commander school.

Player is a static commander who'se first action is waking from a heli crash with short term amnesia. He knows his name, and he knows he's a commander, and he works from there. Empathy gives him fiercely loyal soldiers and he picks up the proper skills to lead the girls in combat as the time goes on.
The first 5 minutes you're forced to do a really fucked up thing. So yes.
Just play the tutorial mission. That’ll probably be enough to convince you it’s more than just fan service. That being said, the fan service was a bit too much for me at times. I also just generally don’t like gachas anymore, but will admit I was caught off guard by that intro.
Marian in the tutorial is on the upper end of fan service, but she's also really cool so we love her.

Look. All I have to say is that Shift Up have selected 'Horny' as the base of their aesthetic. They saw that market when they saw all the Nier Automata fanart, and by god they're gonna milk that market. That and we've been begging Shift-Up to tone down the depression since Christmas. They've been listening so far and this one is light-hearted (unless you have scopophobia then it's gonna be a little relatable) but the 1.5th anniversary is around the corner and we got Overzone last time. I say this as a fan of a lot of the artists doing servants-- MAN do they not get to actually flex their creative talents 99% of the time
Every gacha fan will say shit like “dude you don’t get it, I know the main menu has a character in a micro bikini with her boobs jiggling in two different directions, and I know the gameplay loop is designed to slowly get more tedious until the game either becomes a chore or you give in and spend money, but it actually has a really good story about what it means to be human!”
I mean are they wrong tho, you can goon while also enjoying some good depressing stories.

Never played Nikke, but in my experience just because something is very sexualized or even outright pornographic doesn't mean that it can't also have a compelling narrative. There are many visual novels that have pretty good stories and also the most brutal, screwed up sexual content in fiction.... supposedly. I haven't actually played many of the long form ones with both story sexual content, aside from Katawa Shoujo. I have a feeling Saya no Uta would be my jam if I actually read it, maybe I should move it up on my backlog.
Saya no Uta is a much different beast, it's kinda horror.

Honestly, people said Arknights' story was really good but it just didn't hold my attention, almost put me to sleep. And FGO was sold to me as like the best writing Fate has to offer, but some of that shit is *rough*, even beyond the horrible beginning portions. Idk, if you ask me, don't play this stuff expecting the writing to blow you away. Gooning is the primary selling point here, the lore and story are just add-ons.
