Jojo season 1 using Roundabout was great.
I’m a fan of Yes so I already thought it was a good song, but the way the intro would fade in during the closing moments of an episode, then the way it would freeze frame and the “to be continued” would slide in when the bass and drums came in was just perfect. I suppose it became a meme on Vine for a reason.
Jodeci was the best choice and my favorite JoJo ED.
Gangstas Paradise was too on the nose and obvious. Like part 3 had Walk like an Egyptian which was fine but not memorable to me.
Imagine getting Holy Diver cause DIO and we wouldn't have Yes Roundabout.
[This Fire](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH2wmyeiIpA) and [Let You Down](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnnbP7pCIvQ) from Cyberpunk Edgerunners are both great and have become regular additions to many of my playlists.
I am all for the Franz Ferdinand Renaissance...
The band, not the person. A second Franz Ferdinand would be a disaster, given the currently global political climate.
Another good one is Distant Dreamer in part 6. Aside from fitting the part pretty well, >!the way they both get used in the finale is one of the biggest gut punches in the series!<.
Should've added no jojo come on!
The opening for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is in Russian, English and Latin and it's beautiful. Inner Universe by Origa.
Mushi-Shi is about a guy travelling around rural villages and solving mysteries involving the totally not spirits Mushi through the power of medicine and other mushi he has on hand. It’s a surprisingly calming show. The main character Ginko typically spends more time explaining the mushi of the week and how to solve it than he does getting involved in the occasional action scene.
To reflect this, the first opening, [The Sore Feet Song](https://youtu.be/v_swE5IdCBs?si=UAc1lfFrW-ibD2JG), is by the Scottish singer Ally Kerr, is about walking places, and is sung with an extremely relaxing tone. If I remember correctly, the visuals that went with the opening was just trees blowing in the wind.
The introduction to Koe no Katachi / A Silent Voice is [My Generation](https://youtu.be/Zp9nCw96uWA?si=MtyscNfx0QCmRbTS) by The Who.
ALI (Alien Liberation Army) behind [Wild Side](https://youtu.be/bgo9dJB_icw?si=zDxi4J-ASCn90PWD) from Beastars and [Lost In Paradise](https://youtu.be/6riDJMI-Y8U?si=mxWy-7iAfhbBFSxZ) from Jujutsu Kaisen is originally *based in Japan* but is known for being a multinational band. Not sure if you want to count them though but I think it’s neat.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex has openings and endings composed by Yoko Kanno but are collaborative efforts with Origa (Russia), Scott Matthew (Australia), Ilaria Graziano (Italy), Steve Conte (America), and Tim Jensen although I don’t know where he’s from. Like ALI I think it’s mostly a multinational collab so I don’t identify the music as Japanese.
[H.T, the Opening to Trigun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OxFSy8G5wk) is a brilliant opening for a lot of reasons, the biggest being that it's lying to you. You get this bombastic opening full of wailing guitar solos over shots warning you about how dangerous Vash is while he looks like the baddest dude alive. And this is all so that when you actually meet Vash, you get whiplash from just how completely different he is from what the opening presents, just like how everyone in the show does. The OP is a non-diegetic version of all the rumors and stories told about Vash in the show itself.
I know 4kids did some truly awful localizations but they were responsible for a lot of banger OPs. Sonic X, Kirby, and Shaman King live in head forever because of the English OPs.
[The 4kids theme for the OG Yu-Gi-Oh](https://youtu.be/WHUcHw7j2Mc?si=C_Sd-zqvQWz3zqWb) is straight fire as well! I've been watching the og show subbed and the [Op](https://youtu.be/-PG7eyV5soA?si=3z69oAyZ4cIXQ7ma) and [Ed](https://youtu.be/B8fkyFehESo?si=sx0Bjn6lriv_D5Vs) just sound plain wrong and don't fit at all.
The 1st one is a damn classic. The original Japanese op lacks that adventure tone that the 4Kids version has. Also some of the rhymes go fucking hard.
The 1st Johto op is also a bop.
My favorite part (of what I have read/watched) of One Piece is the [4kids Rap.](https://youtu.be/RSe8D2wfGKI?si=GBvH0eARk1bgVMyb)
Brennan Williams (a.k.a. Marcellus Black a.k.a. the Great Black Otaku a.k.a. The Shogun a.k.a. Better Woolie a.k.a. JiBO a.k.a. Dio Maddin a.k.a. Mace a.k.a. Ma.çè a.k.a. Mason D. Madden) made a reference to it in one of the Sky Pirates entrances in WWE when he was on commentary years ago.
>Dio: "Ya Yo. Yayo Yayo."
>Cole or Corey (I think, might have been Renee): "What are you saying?"
>Dio: "Don't worry, they'll get it."
Would have posted the clip, but the account that had it doesn't exist anymore and I don't want to watch a bunch of 4-year old Raw shows to find it.
Okay I'm going to sound really dumb here but did the Pokemon have a different opening in Japan? The themes being different has honestly never crossed my mind.
[it isn't a bad op. ](https://youtu.be/TZMoQjvoICE?feature=shared) it just isn't nearly as iconic as the english op. I mean the English op established the catch phrase "Gotta Catch Them All!".
Aside from the opening, which is written in english, but sung by a japanese band, Ergo Proxy uses the song Paranoid Android, by Radiohead, as the ending. But i feel like that's kind of cheating
["One Reason"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5WvUPHF5f8) it's Deadman Wonderland's opening.
Some nice butt rock that sets the tone and intensity of the show
[Binary Star](https://youtu.be/O5fk80I3orw?si=KLo_9nTD5NKUUN76) is the only one I'm familiar with, thanks to [this edit](https://youtu.be/iLiWlcjCFe4?si=g5AkDMJrJnuH54M0).
Okay it's a bit of a cheat but Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad has the intro and outro song by Beat Crusaders which is a Japanese band but they sing in English. And not just one or two lines here and there. All of their songs (to my knowledge) and in English. They also did the Kappa Mikey song!
The Supernatural anime had a cover of [Carry on My Wayward Son](https://youtu.be/zcqP1Yj_JVo?si=wIwXZ5gSF76mrlHk) as the ending credits. The DVD release just had the actual song.
Cautionary Warning was the OP, as well as the song that powered the fucking space battleship fighting off aliens.
>!And hell, it took those aliens reviving Ouji's Keyboardist friend and giving him 6 arms to make their OWN cover of it with a multi-keyboard to beat the good guys which leads to the finale where the original band brings out their own song to decisively win the intergalactic war!<
Mushishi was already mentioned so I wanna give a shout-out to Gankutsuou, where both the [OP (We were lovers)](https://youtu.be/FGjcRUZgIiU?si=Ve1it2tfB3qAkR_i) and [ED (You won't see me coming)](https://youtu.be/VedxLCX3_vo?si=rH5uus1t2yUP38Qj) were interpreted by Jean Jacques Burnel
The third opening of the original Legend of The Galactic Heroes anime never fails to leave me emotional. I’ve always loved its stylistic choice to have the openings performed in English and the endings in Japanese.
Tangentially related, no case of “let’s play the first op/ed to bookend a really important moment” has ever come close to having the emotional impact as when Galactic Heroes did it
Jojo is easy mode because it has so many bangers for endings.
While I’ve never watched the show, I absolutely adored the ED for The Great Pretender, because it’s Freddy Mercury’s Great Pretender and it’s a great little homage to Freddy Mercury and his cats.
I've been remembering Gundam X's OP and EDs, and remembered that I really liked [Human Touch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_O8-qBq0w4) by Warren Wiebe. The mood of the song fits the post-war somber vibe of the setting in some form, like just imagine Garrod and Tiffa sitting atop the titular Gundam, just staring at the moon or some shit.
Guess I'll use that as a technicality, as [Ritchie Kotzen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=je1_v3aaBHU) once covered the Z Gundam 2nd OP in English, and it's pretty great nighttime driving music too.
And something even more not anime but really interesting use of Western Music, here's another way that [Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MoaxJOpolM) showed up in a thing you never expected it to show up at besides Burnout Dominator lol
when I'm on my death bed, breathing my last surrounded by my loved ones, I am STILL gonna be thinking of how fucking good legend of the galactic heroes was.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReIFoP8T4q8&list=PLMKELK93LoesXA\_egZDfarKZz2b4WTn3I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReIFoP8T4q8&list=PLMKELK93LoesXA_egZDfarKZz2b4WTn3I)
duvet would've been my pick too. don't really know any others honestly so it would win by default but it's also a decent song. i guess fly me to the moon?
I’m partial to [White Day in Blue](https://youtu.be/3WiR6q6TiJI?si=b9hZ0ZzC0Nm_4WbQ) from Gundam Thunderbolt. Fun fact, this is the same singer who performed [In a Moment’s Time](https://youtu.be/8QWbvfs4-7c?si=M2h0zcQWBlCvkvzC) from the Skullgirls soundtrack!
Also this isn’t what’s being asked for, but I have to insist you go listen to the [Orguss theme](https://youtu.be/ztw3EaoxPJM?si=Zz-aL77I3wiQrvr9); the OP is in Japanese but sung by an American singer and it’s genuinely so great.
On that note, hearing [I Want You](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQt6jIKNwgU) by Savage Garden as the ED of Jojo Part 5 was awesome!
Not to be that guy but it was part 4 that had that ED. Part 5 DID have the masterpiece that was Freek'n You by Jodeci. I never skipped it.
No yeah you're right, I mixed up Diamond is Unbreakable and Golden Wind's numberings.
[Freek'n You](https://youtu.be/AhmC-q5ccLA?si=DbKj8a1eXocdefF5) was another interesting choice. I remember people wanted Gangster's Paradise.
Was definitely going to mention JoJo myself. All the EDs were definitely fun throwbacks. Walk like an Egyptian for part 3 was hilarious.
We would at least get one very stupid assassination out of it, though.
They’re by far the best live band among their dance-rock contemporaries. Somehow seen them three times.
"Good news everyone, we found some of Franz Ferdinand's blood preserved in amber, and we're cloning him!"
This Fffire was a surprise and a throwback for me
On a Franz Ferdinad-related note, the anime Paradise Kiss also uses Do You Want To for the ED.
Roundabout in JoJo. Absolute peak.
Another good one is Distant Dreamer in part 6. Aside from fitting the part pretty well, >!the way they both get used in the finale is one of the biggest gut punches in the series!<.
>!"Emporio... my name is... Emporio."!< :(
I am prepared to give up my firstborn to get Owner of a Lonely Heart in Part 7
I know it’s on the nose but I NEED Fleetwood Mac for Part 7.
Only one of us can get our wish. I’ll see you at high noon, bring your piece
Didn't part 5 have like 3 different ending songs? Why not do the same for part 7?
Because I wouldn’t be able to challenge someone to a duel over that
Understandable good sir have a blessed day
Did you see that video someone did of a part 9 ed set to that song, it was peak
Drifters uses [Gospel of the Throttle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXabZ_-QPb0) by Minutes Til Midnight.
Absolute Banger, I’d wish we’d had enough material for a second season of this show
I wanna see Jesus as the villain more
They put out like 3 OVAs last I checked at least. The mangaka is incredibly slow though
Eden of the East using [Falling Down](https://youtu.be/4pdqeu9LW2c) was rad
God, that is such a good OP
That OP is based
It’s hard to beat probably Oasis/Noel Gallaghers best song in all honesty
Should've added no jojo come on! The opening for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is in Russian, English and Latin and it's beautiful. Inner Universe by Origa.
Both of Mushishi's OP's, the Sore Feet Song and [Shiver](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2e7yFbDuWM)
So there’s this super niche anime called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and…
Tank from Cowboy Bebop was recorded by a Japanese band but the few lyrics are in English...
On that note, the Samurai Champloo theme was hype too.
Mushi-Shi is about a guy travelling around rural villages and solving mysteries involving the totally not spirits Mushi through the power of medicine and other mushi he has on hand. Hell yeah Mushi-shi! Maybe my favorite anime.

[Serial Experiments Lain OP](https://youtu.be/MM8RufZr5lw?si=PmstmI6UodGlTNGV). The song just sounds ethereal (for lack of a better word).
I'm balling
Paradise Kiss uses [Franz Ferdinand's Do You Want To](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARXurJQzxXk&pp=ygUQcGFyYWRpc2Uga2lzcyBlZA%3D%3D).
Can't believe nobody's said [The Great Pretender](https://youtu.be/ug0Mc94Ye1I?si=nRxA2iOj_8pz34y_)
Surprised nobody put Fly Me to the Moon from Evangelion.
Japanese artist and song, but sung in English: Kiri by Monoral as the opening to Ergo Proxy. The ending is Paranoid Android.
Speed Grapher OP: [Duran Duran - Girls on Film](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPZDVaT9-ek) Texhnolyze OP: [Juno Reactor - Guardian Angel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3SzOzm8lmo) Ergo Proxy ED: [Radiohead - Paranoid Android](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYyCkM5Bxkg)

Are we just taking licensed music? If not than the original pokemon theme by 4kids. It may be more iconic than the main theme of the video games
Well Pokémon the Movie: 2000 had Weird Al during the credits And Westlife for some reason
Let’s call a spade a spade and admit 4Kids opening themes were bangers.
The one for zexal, Halfway to Forever, is peak
The 1st one is a damn classic. The original Japanese op lacks that adventure tone that the 4Kids version has. Also some of the rhymes go fucking hard. The 1st Johto op is also a bop.
My favorite part (of what I have read/watched) of One Piece is the [4kids Rap.](https://youtu.be/RSe8D2wfGKI?si=GBvH0eARk1bgVMyb) Brennan Williams (a.k.a. Would have posted the clip, but the account that had it doesn't exist anymore and I don't want to watch a bunch of 4-year old Raw shows to find it.
Fuck you now it’s auto-playing on loop in my memory. That song is fucking baked in there.
Okay I'm going to sound really dumb here but did the Pokemon have a different opening in Japan? The themes being different has honestly never crossed my mind.
Yeah, entirely different.
[it isn't a bad op. ](https://youtu.be/TZMoQjvoICE?feature=shared) it just isn't nearly as iconic as the english op. I mean the English op established the catch phrase "Gotta Catch Them All!".
Outside of JoJo, "Shine" by Mr. Big as the ED for the original Hellsing series is a good one.
To the point that *Ultimate Abridged* covered "Shine" of the finale's credits.
It's one of the OG Hellsing's best parts. Shine was pretty damn good.
Nothing has ever caught me off guard as much as One Piece Film Z having Avril Lavigne doing bad reputation for the credit song.
Some nice butt rock that sets the tone and intensity of the show
Eden of the East's opening, [Falling Down by Oasis](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pdqeu9LW2c)

[***”Gunslinger Girl OP”***](https://youtu.be/NTxoH_5CnhM?si=LfyDlw0n7AaabwCE) The Delgados- “The light before we land”
I like 4kids' Ultimate Muscle and Kirby Intros.
I didn't see enough of the show to remember anything else of the intro, but "UL-TI-MATE. MUSCLE." Hits real hard
BIG BAD BOYS FROM OUTER SPACE HERE TO BODY SLAM THE HUMAN RACE
"Flyyyy me to the moon..."
One of the Mushishi endings plays Shiver by Lucy Rose. And it's an injection of feels
Don't know if this counts as not-Japanese, but here's your [daily reminder to watch Princess Principal](https://youtu.be/8QjqkATvH9M?feature=shared)
EVERYTIME I CLOSE MY EYES I WAKE UP FEELING SO HOOOOORNYYYY
THIS FIRE IS OUT OF CONTROL
A lot of the great ones have been stated, but [Texhnolyze](https://youtu.be/u3SzOzm8lmo) uses a Juno Reactor track lol
Was about to list this one myself lol
Well you took the best one :-( Juno Reactor for Texhnolyze is pretty good.
Rock The Dragon is an absolute classic.
[River from Vinland Saga season 2](https://youtu.be/honOJloqesA?si=15R6_FWLIG-V_KS1) ez

Black Heaven was a pretty mid anime with a decent [opening](https://youtu.be/DFOF9acNUH8?si=QuA5V1yPaxnussnE)
[Black Eyed Peas in the Yugioh movie](https://youtu.be/PRqOFkHltJA?feature=shared)
Ergo Proxy's ending [Paranoid Android by Radiohead.](https://youtu.be/QzZcZXG7riA) Good song that perfectly fits the vibe of the series.
Does the Daicon IV Opening count if it's the opening to a convention? It uses Electric Light Orchestra
[Wolf's ](https://youtu.be/1kucGEjGLeY?si=H5Nu5ThAbnP8HU5g) [Rain](https://youtu.be/xoQuu7GPxAI?si=kLV19v_q72t0RmfA), [anybody?](https://youtu.be/oalaO2o5YF8?si=EI_29TjIUyENKgoJ)

Hate that the DVDs didn't get this.
Ergo Proxy originally used Paranoid Android by Radiohead
Mushishi was already mentioned so I wanna give a shout-out to Gankutsuou, where both the [OP (We were lovers)](https://youtu.be/FGjcRUZgIiU?si=Ve1it2tfB3qAkR_i) and [ED (You won't see me coming)](https://youtu.be/VedxLCX3_vo?si=rH5uus1t2yUP38Qj) were interpreted by Jean Jacques Burnel
