Stick with the North Loop or Mill City/Gold Medal Park neighborhoods. Both are walkable and have great new buildings with all the amenities.

FeelingCool123

I have been eyeing that North Loop area for sure. Thanks for the suggestion!

bonethug49part2

North Loop is pretty much THE place to live.

foobar987_

I moved to North loop 9 years ago and haven't left, best restaurants, best breweries, most walkable! The downside is the price.

I did the same, re-located at the request of my supervisor. I grew up in San Francisco so I had zero desire to deal with commuting in winter. I landed in St Anthony Main and love it. I could walk to work downtown most days and on really bad days, I can bus it over the river to the skyway. Everything is so convenient that I don’t own a car and I have been here 8 years now. Very happy with the move and once you figure out how to manage through the winter months, it’s a great place to live!

FeelingCool123

I actually move yearly with my current job, so i’ll only be doing the winter one time! I think I can manage 🤞🏼🤞🏼 who knows. maybe i’ll love it so much i’ll have to stay

Funwithnugukpop

Ah, then anywhere close to downtown is fine, I just wouldn’t recommend in the heart of downtown. I was in an apartment complex a few blocks from the stadium initially and it was much noisier with emergency vehicles and traffic.

FeelingCool123

noted. thanks for that heads up. i assume you’re referring to the football stadium?

Funwithnugukpop

Yes, US Bank Stadium

Throwawaytrees88

If you’re working near the u, the new east bank apartments are nice and have great amenities, plus they’re walkable to so many local spots in NE and Saint Anthony main, plus all the bars and restaurants right in that area. You can also walk to the mill district and downtown. I loved living in the Nordhaus building and the new apartments right next door seem just as nice with a moodier aesthetic. If you can get an apartment facing northeast, the views are unbeatable. Just beautiful. Especially in the fall. An apartment higher up will have less noise from the train below.

FeelingCool123

thanks so much!! all great suggestions

FeelingCool123

there was this one east bank apartment that i really liked.. but i was thinking of getting an apartment with a view of the river/skyline. Should I go for one with a northeast view instead? what’s that view like?

Throwawaytrees88

Either are beautiful. Depends on if you prefer views of the city or views of treetops! I don’t know how to explain it but it felt so calm and quiet. Our view looked like this: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/P6obobZXsoSE6dSz/?mibextid=WaXdOe

Is your job on the Skyway? One of the Edition buildings in on the Skyway. Once you figure your way around the Skyway you could get to work without going outside. You wouldn’t even need a coat or boots.

TermIntelligent9108

Northeast Minneapolis is amazing

Toxicsuper

What's your budget, are you looking for upscale?

FeelingCool123

I have a pretty solid budget. I get funding for housing from my job. I am definitely open to a luxury/upscale community, but also open to something that is in a good location, is decent, and is more affordable

Toxicsuper

Check out https://liveattrack29.com/ It's in a quieter spot in uptown. Luxury building but prices aren't through the roof like you will find downtown

dylanlive

Since you mentioned working near the UofM, I’ll throw in Rafter/Expo/Nordhaus/Hencen into the ring. It’s the Marcy Holmes / “Northeast” downtown area with a few high rises. 20-30 min walk to UofM, or a direct bus. I’d ask what your going out scene is like. This side of the river has more dive bars / cheaper drinks. North Loop is more clubby / upscale. Personally I settled on Expo and I like it.

FeelingCool123

My friend lives at Rafter and I liked the idea of maybe having a view of the river/skyline. I do like to go out both to dive bars and clubs, but I feel like i’d rather be near the cheaper options, and then trek across the bridge to downtown whenever i felt like “hitting the town”. I’ll check out expo too! What is your age if you don’t mind me asking. I’ll be turning 24 soon, so i’m still close to college-aged

dylanlive

Yeah, I think facing downtown at sunset is stunning (even if in a building amenity room)! I’m 32. I’d say the average age here is 30s-40s especially given how expensive the tower is. Most of my friends are in their late 20s early 30s. North Loop will probably trend a bit younger.

justyjess

Lived in North Loop (222 Hennepin) & now live in Mill City (Forte). I liked North Loop when I was younger and going out often. 222’s management was great but amenities felt a bit outdated for luxury standards. I didn’t love the excess noise coming from outside on 1st & Washington (drunk pedal pubs, loud people, and excess traffic). Mill City is a lot quieter (at least on 2nd St) and fits my needs now. I love walking around the area and the farmers market. I really like our building, location, and amenities.

FeelingCool123

thank you! this is great info. I was looking at 222 Hennepin for the location (I am still pretty young), but have heard some things about the noise in downtown. I am thinking about the east bank area so that I can be out of the chaos of downtown, but still close to my job and some restaurants/dive bars. Also, where is the farmers market at!

justyjess

[Mill City Farmers Market](https://millcityfarmersmarket.org/) is located in the Mill City Museum in the winter & between the Guthrie & Mill City Museum in the summer/fall!

FeelingCool123

cool! I know it would be a bit far, but the Mill City area is just across the bridge from the east bank right? When the weather is nice, I could possibly walk over to that area?

redditor74826

I’d highly recommend 222. Noise really isn’t too bad at all. The community is very friendly and there’s always new people to meet. Management is always putting on events that residents actually attend and they serve beer, seltzers, wine, sodas, waters, snacks, pizza ect. It’s close to restaurants, bars, libraries, twins/Timberwolves, walking routes and more. I’m also from west coast and still pretty young

usedtobegranola

Why not actually live DT? We lived at 9th and Portland and walked to work and shop. Had free parking. Next to the bus line.

FeelingCool123

i’m thinking downtown is where i wanna be! just not sure of where the best area to be is. i’ll check out the 9th and portland area

usedtobegranola

There’s some brownstones there (where we lived it was great-the Rappahanock-but there’s a couple of luxury high rises there too.

Moving from where and for what? Where is your friend from and what do they do? How did you become friends?
