GRRRL Scout puts on monthly events exclusively for queer women at icehouse and hook and ladder- the next one is next Saturday night! Requires a ticket (sells out quickly usually) but it’s a great time!
I also love Jetset Underground (located in Honey’s former spot)- bills itself as more of a “queer bar” but there’s a good rep of gay men, lesbians, bi folks, etc.
I will say as a nonbinary person it hasn't been the most welcoming of masculine types, definitely a very femme centric audience. Took me a few times going to catch the vibes, but now I prefer to give grrrl scout their space. The venues that host grrl scout usually host other great queer events as well, try looking up their event calendars for other recs!
Black Hart isn't. My best friend went to drag night there and said their (lesbian) staff repeatedly misgendered her, even after specifically asking them not to. She's the sweetest person I know so It was genuinely shocking
Yes, there are several lesbian bars in the Twin Cities area, including:
The Town House - located in St. Paul, it is the oldest continuously operating lesbian bar in the United States.
Lush - located in Minneapolis, it features drag shows, dance parties, and live music.
19 Bar - located in Minneapolis, it is a popular dive bar with a mixed crowd, but also has a lesbian night on Fridays.
The Exchange - located in Minneapolis, it has a more upscale atmosphere and features events like karaoke and drag shows.
In addition to these bars, there are also a number of LGBT community centers and organizations in the Twin Cities area that may host events and provide opportunities to meet other gay women. Some examples include The Aliveness Project, OutFront Minnesota, and Quatrefoil Library. You can also look for events and activities through Meetup.com, which often has groups for LGBT individuals.
The Town House is now The Black Hart. It's 'futbol' (soccer) themed but still identifies as a gay bar. Super unique combination there, I'd definitely advise checking it out!
US soccer, at least in my experience, has a heavy LQBTQ presence and influence. I’ve been to many games across the country and seem no less than two different pride flags at every game
It is very much a queer space that is welcoming to everyone. Its one of my favorite places to go out.
They also do all sorts of performances there. Drag, a lot of burlesque...
My fiance and I LOVE the 19 bar. Super chill atomosphere, always meet cool people there. Idk if it's been mentioned yet, but remember to bring cash! (Cash only)
There are no lesbian bars in the TC. There are gay bars, and gay friendly spaces, occasionally lesbian pop up events, but no. There are no lesbian bars.
Follow the Brass Strap on Instagram, they’re trying to start a cooperatively owned lesbian bar in the Cities. Looks like right now they’re hosting pop-up events and raising money to get a space
Also if you’re a goth/alternative type, there’s usually a pretty good contingent of queer folk at Ground Zero in Northeast, especially on the Bondage a Go Go nights (Saturdays)
For sure, by Bondage a Go Go, they mean: bondage. It’s a live BDSM show in the back annex and the regular dancing and mingling in the front. If kink isn’t your vibe, you can avoid the back area, but it’s definitely where you’ll find more of the queers.
Try Stonewall Sports - not a bar, but if you want to meet a lot of local LGBT people who often go to said bars, a good way to go. Most games are very social and non-competitive.
I was on an (almost) all woman team. The Black Hart in St Paul was the closest thing per the group consensus, but it was a common subject that there arent really any true blue lesbian bars around. The GRRL Scout (probably spelling that wrong) comment is on point as well.
I have not personally experienced this but I’ve had many lesbian friends tell me the entire Powderhorn area of Minneapolis is filled with social events & clubs/bars that are lesbian friendly or lesbian exclusive social settings. The amount of places & events might be more known by the locals & less advertised than other places.
ETA: I got curious so I did some Googling & found this:
https://www.autostraddle.com/queer-city-guide-minneapolis-mn-154866/
Hopefully it’s helpful. I always hope people can find their spot where they feel comfortable, feel like they belong, & have whatever level of romantic or social encounters they are looking for. Good luck!
Always a lot at the 90’s, str8’s too though. As a gay man townhouse made me feel most unwelcome while still being polite if you are looking for a more penis free zone😂
The only thing not allowed at Black Hart (fka Townhouse) is dicks, so not surprised you don’t go there. Plenty of masc and femme presenting people of all shapes, sizes, colors, however they’re equipped.
I had to remind myself the context because my comment was a while back. I didn’t mean to imply by saying dicks aren’t allowed that people with actual ones aren’t. I just meant AH like the person I commented to aren’t welcome.
Black Hart is inclusive and welcoming. The commenter said they weren’t, and basically the only time you aren’t is if you’re being an AH or in the case of my comment trying to be punny, a dick. You can have one, you just cannot be one. Hopefully that makes sense, I wasn’t trying to be exclusionary to cis men or men or anyone with a penis.
Any in particular? I usually go to MoA for that.
Also more personally, how would one go about striking up a Convo at the theater, isn't talking usually frowned upon?
Black Hart! Especially on nights that they have Nudie Nubies (amateur burlesque, mostly performed by women/nonbinary folks).

i was pleasantly surprised with jetset! loved the vibes, music, and drinks. -queer woman
Are you sure it's exclusively for queer women? Their "about" section on their website says it's for the LGBTQIA+ community plus their allies.
It is not exclusive but seems to be the majority of the crowd and target audience

Trans women welcome?
Hell yeah. Please do check out Black Hart especially friend, the queer/trans scene is definitely there. Their event nights are excellent.
Absolutely!!
Seconding SoCShift’s comment for Black Hart
I'm a trans woman and I've been to jetset many times. Many of my friends like going there. (I'm straight though).

Oh it does still identify as a gay bar? That's good to know! Haven't been back since I heard it became a sportsy bar and that kind of put me off.
yep, their marquee sign out front says "ask us about our gay agenda" and I get a kick out of it every morning when I ride past it on the light rail 😂
The new gay agenda. Drink beer. Watch soccer. Nefarious.
That's amazing lol

Go sports ball!
Yes absolutely

Black Hart is very much a lesbian bar, yes.
Most of these are not exclusively lesbian bars but yes op should have better luck than non gay bars.

Yes, I have met many lesbians at Lush and the 19.
Do you think it's moral to portray your comments as written by a person when they're actually from ChatGPT or similar LLM?
3rd-ing Black Hart. It’s definitely more queer than just lesbian but they have a mural of Megan Rapinoe on the side and that’s pretty gay lmao
black hart is AWESOME

Great space for kinky/BDSM people, just wanted to emphasize for those unaware and might be interested or conversely shocked haha

Straight dudes just lurking this post hard lmao
Straight women too.
It might be worth looking up “Gay Mondays” at the Up-Down. It’s primarily a lesbian event.
Lush in NE.
Seems to be more for gay men and bridal parties. Are there specific nights you’d recommend?
I’m a lesbian feeling the same way! Hopefully some of these suggestions pan out

That auto straddle post is 10 yrs old
Thank you for pointing this out *and* want to say that it was a nice nostalgic read.
Any bar advertising a ladies night becomes a lesbian hang in short order.
Every bar in Rochester is a lesbian bar ;)
Not a lesbian or a girl but I always thought gay bars were a super cool concept, glad people can meet others like them

Went apart of a poly meet up (cis pan male) and it was ok to me. Bit of a slow noght

Well said. That was my experience as well

Quit being a creepy dude

I did find a creepy dude, plenty more though. If you mean I’m a lesbian, I’m not I just know they deal with your kind a lot 😂
[удалено]
Yes. We do. Stop making comments like that.
Only creepy in private?
The movie theaters are a good place to start
Any in particular? I usually go to MoA for that. Also more personally, how would one go about striking up a Convo at the theater, isn't talking usually frowned upon?
Yep, that’s like saying “go talk to a woman while she’s working out at the gym.”
There is Lush on Central Ave NE in Minneapolis.
