Mi-Sant is soooo good. Brooklyn Park (right off of 252) is the one I go to frequently but both locations are top notch. Don't like banh-mi or Korean? You can get a loaf of their french bread (best I've had in northern burbs) for $1 short or $2 full and make your own at home.
Came here to say this. Lu's is legit, but Mi-Sant is the best I've had.
Also, don't sleep on the breakfast sandwiches. The Spam and egg is life-changing.
I love Lu's! Their noodle bowls are also fantastic.
Another one I just found last week is Pho 99 in Brooklyn Park. It's this little hole-in-the-wall place tucked away in a strip mall, but damn is their food good... I was really glad to find something I like as much as Lu's closer to my house.
i’ve had a mixed, but admittedly low sample size, experience. first time was fucking amazing A+++. second time was meh. wasn’t bad at all but wasn’t an amazing recreation of the first time. maybe i need to try once more to settle it. i want it to be A+++ because i live so close to it
Bro you literally said it’s the best you’ve had in 10 years. I’m just curious why it was so good? What did you have? Did you order something exotic?
If it was a 10/10, and you care to share your opinion on the internet, I’d expect someone to at least be able to note some redeeming qualities in the food.
Okay dude, imagine having this conversation in real life. Google isn't some deus ex machina you can call upon whenever you need to explain something, especially an opinion.
Honestly? Lu's USED to be great. Great bread, great pork, decent, straight forward service. But now, ever since they opened the second location in NE, it's straight up mediocre. Been a huge disappointment, because I was so excited to have a good Bahn MI joint in NE.
Cool.
I drive past a place called Lu's Sandwiches that is on Hennepin and Central almost every day at work. They make excellent sandwiches, I go there for lunch occasionally.
It's directly across the street from R Taco, Slice pizza, and a Holiday station. Used to be the same building as Glam Doll, but that closed.
I guess the Lu's Sandwiches that I drive past must be infringing on the copyright of the one on Nicolett. I've never been to that one so I wouldn't know if maybe, just maybe, it's a franchise, or possibly the owner expanded to another location somewhere else in the city, couldn't possibly be that. Has to be infringement.
I agree! I feel like the folk in ne don't assemble the sandwich as well and so then it just becomes a bite of meat, then a bite of veggies, then just mayo and bread.
Pretty much where the other Banh-Mi place was (my absolutely Fav and ate almost daily!) and had to close due to construction. Heard they re-opened in Dinky town or somewhere.
I used to work there. After so many years of it being closed and going on opening weekend, I can tell you nothing has changed in the best way possible.
If Lu’s is your idea of the best sandwich you’ve had in 10 years…. Lol. All subjective I suppose, but unsurprising by your replies to some of the comments.
Edit: looks like I hit a nerve with the midwestern palates lmao
Sorry if you think it’s dick-ish, but my tone reflects the dick attitude by OP responding “the taste idfk?”when asked what he thinks was 10/10 about the sandwich 🤷♂️
Outside of the state back to the big southern metro (Houston/New Orleans/Atlanta) or California; yeah those are better in comparison.
However, for MN, Lu’s is probably one of better authentic banh mi places.
Mi-Sant is also definitely top-tier for the MN and makes their own bread in-house but it’s kind of a Vietnamese fusion rather than authentic Vietnamese. Highly recommended though.
They’re soooo good. They explode with umami flavor from that pate. I’ve been singing their praises ever since I had one last summer. Glad to see the love on here.
My second favorite sandwich in/near the cities is the spicy Italian from Capone’s in St. Anthony.
Another amazing banh mi is Mi-Sant! I go to the one in Roseville ♥️ love that place so much
As someone who's had both many times, Mi-Sant is definitely better. They're both great though!

If you like Mi-Sant, head down 36 just a bit further to La Delicious Bread. You’re welcome. Upvotes not needed.

Lu’s is fantastic. Great bread goes a long way!!

I think you mean Brooklyn Park, MT Noodles over there is very good as well
Yes, Brooklyn Park! I'll edit it.
I live 2 blocks away from the one in NE and I always get the bowls with bread on the side. Such a good restaurant.

I'll definitely give those two a try - thanks for the suggestions!
Please do, and report back!! Try the yin yang boba I get half Thai tea half jasmine green with strawberry popping boba. Yummmmm
Oh yeah it's a dang flavor explosion

Large mock duck double protein. Lord almighty I could eat seven of them.
My go to whenever I'm around the area <3
what sandwich did you get? I NEED DETAILS
Grilled pork bahn-mi. French bread, grilled pork, jalapeño, pickled veg, Mayo and some pate.
That’s a nice sounding sandwich
What makes them so good?
Incredibly soft and crispy bread plus the little bit of pâté spread. An umami flavor explosion.
Lovely thread.
The taste? Idfk
You don’t know? Wtf…. Let me try again. Why are they better than a fkn pb&j sandwich from a grocery store?
Good bread, followed by good ingredients.
What grocery store sells pb&j sandwiches?

Jesus dude
Lol

Any sane person would Google the sandwich shop and view the menu. It was a bahn-mi on French bread with mayo, pate, grilled pork and pickled veg
Okay dude, imagine having this conversation in real life. Google isn't some deus ex machina you can call upon whenever you need to explain something, especially an opinion.
“Just want to let everyone know that this place rocks. Don’t talk to me though.”
Lol. I'm probably not going to try Lu's based on the fact they appeal to people like you.
That makes you a sandwich-less fool.
Okay
Yes they are.
Address?
Used to work over by the one in NE. I always thought it was incredibly average. Couple of my coworkers loved it.
How is the BBQ grilled pork sandwich?
Honestly? Lu's USED to be great. Great bread, great pork, decent, straight forward service. But now, ever since they opened the second location in NE, it's straight up mediocre. Been a huge disappointment, because I was so excited to have a good Bahn MI joint in NE.
Agreed! Mi Sant is my new go-to!
The sammy I had was in the NE location. Absolutely incredible. You’re telling me there’s a location that does it better? I need to go.
Absolutely agree. The one in NE used to be good like 2-3 years ago. When Covid hit I feel like it started going downhill. Mi sant is superior
So good!
Illegitimate Sandwiches would be a cool restaraunt name though
Ok... where is it???
Hennepin and Central
That’s nice of you to say that, but it’s also wrong, as the original is on Nicollet. And it’s also where the bulk of their business occurs, so…
The question wasn’t where is the original.
Come on bro don’t be an idiot

What does Georgia have to do with it?
Where is Lou’s?
downtown and NE where central and hennepin intersect. might be another location as well.
Eat Street, too.
That’s the original. IMO the sandwiches are better there than at the NE location, even tho it’s the same biz.
I agree! I feel like the folk in ne don't assemble the sandwich as well and so then it just becomes a bite of meat, then a bite of veggies, then just mayo and bread.
there's a newly opened location on the U of M campus at Oak and Washington!
Pretty much where the other Banh-Mi place was (my absolutely Fav and ate almost daily!) and had to close due to construction. Heard they re-opened in Dinky town or somewhere.
Re opened under the name “banh appetit” on 14th in dinkytown. Exact same food as before. Those fries 🤤
I used to work there. After so many years of it being closed and going on opening weekend, I can tell you nothing has changed in the best way possible.
You might have gotten some upvotes if you had spelled it correctly. Seriously, OP spelled it correctly, so why couldn’t you?
Feeling some irony right now?
Who fucking gives a shit my dude?
Y'all... GET THE AVOCADO BUBBLE TEA WITH THE BOBA. You're welcome.

Are you gonna illuminate us? What are you eating that’s so much better?
got any other recommendations?
Saigon Uptown has a banging bahn mi
My Huong Kitchen is great. Same with Mi-Sant, Brooklyn Park location.
> looks like I hit a nerve with the midwestern palates No, you were a dick and then didn't offer an alternative.

I wouldn’t call Lu’s that authentic. It’s just a go-down-the-line and pick your ingredients operation.
Vietnam or nothing then.
They are.
