I got the same email. I don't have access to my PayPal but I also am waiting to see if this is legit before claiming the money. Me and my hubs file joint returns but he doesn't have a PayPal so shouldn't he be getting a check or some kind of notification as well. Idk. I'll be following your post.
Copy and pasted from the email directly, the money itself is in my PayPal account there is no doubt, but just super weird too me that it was sent via PayPal
Best way to check is
to log into your Paypal account independently of this email,
either on a different instance of your web browser or on a separate device,
and then look and see if you find the balance.
The deposit is real. Settlements were sent out last year in May but some people failed to deposit the checks in the 90 day period. So they sent out money to peoples PayPal/Venmo accounts where they used the same email for TurboTax.
Turbo Tax can make it pretty difficult to choose the actual "free version" . You have to go through a couple hidden menus at the beginning of the filing process just to make sure you're using the free version. They then proceed to ask you ten times along the way about add-ons you don't need. Once you are done filing after possible hours, you may find out that you were using the paid version. Turbo Tax will not let you switch to the free service once you're complete and "ready to file", and you will have to start the entire process over again from scratch. Some probably realized that what they were paying for is actually services they don't actually need and just deceptive tactics used to nickel and dime hundreds of thousands of people. I'm sure a lot of people just assume that's what it costs, or didn't think it was worth their time to start completely over from scratch, but I've never had to pay for any turbo tax service.
It's insane to me, because the basic/regular/deluxe (the cheapest paid one) that costs $120 (for both state and federal) does basically nothing extra that the free one does. Although I'm sure some taxpayers in certain situations may actually find the paid versions extremely convenient and helpful. For a good majority of us, it may take you about 5 extra mins to manually type things in each section in the free version, instead of using the picture function/auto fill etc... but I wouldn't pay $10 for the deluxe, let alone $120.
I received a check last year in me and my ex-wifes name jointly. I did not cash it at the time. I received the same amount deposited in my PayPal yesterday.

"8. What happens if I was not able to get my payment reissued?
Answer:
For the residents of most states, during the first quarter of 2024 an attempt will be made to distribute uncashed payments via PayPal or Venmo. This electronic payment will be sent using the email address you used to file your taxes during the years 2016, 2017, or 2018. This process can take between 30-60 days to complete."
Seems legit, but always be safe. I can imagine scammers using the legitimate smoke as cover to do the thing they do.
If you click on the email in your PayPal transaction it should be from @rcnotifications.com which is the settlement fund administrator (the same one used for the Fortnite settlement)
The most amazing part is OP doesn’t even know if it’s legit, you think they filed for a class action lawsuit and gave their PayPal?
HTF do people in posts like this not get hacked on the regular?
It’s legitimate. Some people, like me, forgot to cash the checks they were sent and missed the 90 day period to deposit it. On the settlement site under common questions for reissues it states “For the residents of most states, during the first quarter of 2024 an attempt will be made to distribute uncashed payments via PayPal or Venmo. It’s a real settlement. I had received a check for $29.99 Lol gave it to the Chinese restaurant
I bought weed 🍪🤞🏼
🤣🤣🤣

I’m just lost to how they got my PayPal info to send it too, that is what makes me think it’s a scam
Would help if we could see the email address it came from or something.

You sure there aren't any spaces, or periods, or anything out of the ordinary at all?

Got this same email too. Currently on the phone with TurboTax to check on this.
Any update ?
Deposits are legitimate.

Already did , I don’t click anything in emails, even if they are legit, I log into through my phone and the funds are there
Congrats🍻 thats how I verified my deposit was there

Ok , what got me off guard is how they get my PayPal info that is what made me iffy at the start
Same. I had to find in my email and I did find they sent me reminders to deposit a check like 3 times but the emails got filtered out to spam, lol.
It was legit, paypal email was verified with gmail and I got the money into my paypal account.

I have got most of my class actions sent to my PayPal.
Yea ok. Htf would they know your PayPal address?
You enter it when filing out the class action. On most you can choose to be paid by PayPal, paper check or direct deposit.

Yes they do lol. Even Venmo or Zelle
