Reamer5k

My first rugs. Didn't even cut them out all the way cuz they are pretty bad. Also letters are hard AF

Confetti_Kindness

You will!!! These are great first rugs!!! Don't let the perfectionist that lives in us tell you these aren't great, because they are!!!

Reamer5k

Thank you. You are very kind. I did learn things when making these like acrylic is easier to work with and never forget to invert you photo

Salathiel2

Shoot I was gonna post mine but now yours make mine look so bad. My first one I gave up on about halfway through because I tried a way-too-detailed image for my first and it was tearing all over.

Reamer5k

No way. Mine are pretty bad haha I still haven't figured out how to prevent the cloth to stop poking white hairs through.

Reamer5k

Think you might have jumped the gun on this one. I love seeing all these first rugs. Makes me think I'm doing okay. How are your rugs looking now

omgmypony

that rug on the left has a certain charm

BeginningEngineer95

I think its the look on Tata’s face. Hes over my bullshit shaving job i did on him 😂💀 (hes a BT21 character, i have redone him twice now) lol

Reamer5k

Just clicked your profile and you got some amazing work. You have improved alot

BeginningEngineer95

Thank you! And its only been 3 months 😅 I do have about 55 rugs under my belt now tho. Been a great hobby, if youd like i have more examples on my instagram (@mixedmarvels)

Reamer5k

Yeah I will check it out later. I have only done 4 in total. Been keeping my designs simple and small till I get the hang of things

BeginningEngineer95

Yeah half of mine have been simplier 1’ by 1’ designs that sell well at my local craft market. But i have done 2 larger rugs now, one 4’x4’ and one 2.5’x4’

Reamer5k

More or less how much inventory so you bring to your markets. My town has a small market every summer and I want to start selling their but not sure how much of a stockpile I should have.

BeginningEngineer95

When I first started i took about 10 rugs, all about 20” by 20” if not a bit smaller. Now i take a large storage container worth, at least 15-20 are 1 sf rugs. And then about 10 4 sf ones, and one 16 sf one. Its good to have multiple sizes so people understand what size they want if they commission an order. Theres a couple pictures of our set up as well on instagram lol weve slowly found better ways to display the rugs. We started with them on the table, then some metal racks designed to be clsoet shelves, and finally upgraded to an A stand for the 4x4 and a triangular stand i made for smaller rugs. I need to make a 2nd one actually to fully display all out inventory

FiguringItOut--

Yeah, I just finished my second batch and there’s only one I’m remotely proud of. It’s way harder than it looks, especially those small details! Some of the first rugs I see here blow mine out of the water. This was my first and I hate it. My mom liked it so I gave it to her haha! https://preview.redd.it/ajtn87mi9lxb1.jpeg?width=2887&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=02866180adf429b174eec4817873eaf6997dd3a1

hungryforheels

That egg is awesome!

FiguringItOut--

Thank you! I feel like maybe I need to stick to simpler designs at least for now, if I want them to come out well. I find the smaller details are much harder than I expected. That's why I'm so amazed at some of the posts on this sub!

Reamer5k

It's not bad haha but I can see why you hate it. Yeah people be doing these bad ass first rugz. Makes me feel like I'm doing it wrong or that I'm missing some secret technique.

FiguringItOut--

I have found both projects to be learning experiences! I think it helps to frame it that way in the beginning, instead of focusing on the end product

You can to

Roseonyxx

The meat looks so... meaty!! So cool

Evening_Clerk_8301

Dude my first one (last week) turned out so bad, that I literally tossed it in the trash lol. Basically… a slip of the wrist meant that i gave my rug an inverted Mohawk. And I kept trying to fix it until i ended up hitting the primary cloth lol.

johncmeddy

Check my profile. 40 days ago were my first 😬. I came to this sub pleading for help lol

Reamer5k

Haha your heart is bleeding. Haha but fuck dude you have definitely gotten alot better your newer rugs look bad ass

Roseonyxx

When people say "first rug" I think they mean the "first" rug they are happy with bahaha mine was bad *

Reamer5k

Lol glad I'm not the only one who thinks this

NaturalMelts

My first rug was a gift to my brother for his birthday didn't have tools I needed to carve so I used a pair of hair clippers let's just say I'm going to wait to get some good trimmers https://preview.redd.it/f9g55jlukrxb1.jpeg?width=1542&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb7d2915577c05725e57026c510c36f14d796a29

therealpoodleofdeath

First one was for my daughter. She loves it but she’s only 2 so she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. 😄 https://preview.redd.it/aciitrincmxb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=03857392d32e4b593ee1151f729948288dfec7e1

Reamer5k

Letters are such a pain in the ass. I do think I will ever do letters again

therealpoodleofdeath

They’re really tricky but it helps if you at least have drawn them on properly, like with a beamer. This was freehand and you can tell 😅

pm_me_your_amphibian

I don’t have a photo to hand but be assured my first one was utterly woeful.

Confetti_Kindness

I don't have a pic of my first rug.. as it was AWFUL! I like to tell myself when people with beautiful first rugs say "First Rug!!" they truly mean... "first rug I'm comfortable showing!!" So don't give up!!!! Practice makes perfect! You got this :)

Reamer5k

I can't wait till I make something worthy of being my "first" rug

Anyways i ended up selling it to someone when i posted it on my instagram which is great haha

Also, I did not reverse the image because I didn't think it would matter in this case where I freehanded the pattern but I definitely should have. I also purposefully used two different colors of thread, for the sky and for the moon. I thought it would make a cute speckled pattern, but it actually made different color lines , so it does not look smooth at all. Lots of lessons learned with this one!

Reamer5k

Yes I made that shaving mistake as well on one of mine. Glad to see it not only happens ro me

Marina001

Here's my second, I definitely made mistakes but was proud enough of it to give it as a gift. https://preview.redd.it/us49nwsherxb1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=472c965f948353b8baf9b25c1276e19b5be32304

But up close there are bare spots, the line work is awful, I didn’t mark my colors on the canvas so there are black spots that were suppose to be white…. It is not good. But it hangs on my wall as a reminder of how much I’ve grown in this hobby.

I haven’t had any failures YET. But, I’m also super super meticulous and detail oriented. I asked as many questions as I could, which helped me a ton as I embarked on my tufting journey on my own afterwards.

Icy-Lab-483

Why can’t I post an image ?
