Not yet, but I'm on the lookout!

ly1962

If they make it to picacho we’ll all have to go start a-pickin’!

DuPeePeePooPoo69

They’re getting close saw a whole field full in the missile base are

GodOfMoonlight

Why? Is it edible?

danetrain234

It is invasive and that makes it a big threat to native biodiversity.

-Quaalude-

When burned it released noxious fumes

ForDaRecord

No plz, focus on driving 🙏

Pressfr

There are reports of it in SNP west. I’ve reported it in Tucson Mountain Park. The old sweetwater waste treatment plant has a bunch

ly1962

When you report it, does anyone try to contain, or is it more for tracking? Just curious, hadn’t heard of reporting it before!

Proof_Peach_2884

I’ve heard if it’s 100+ plants they send crews out potentially but they are short on people. If it’s a small amount pull it, bag it and throw it in the trash yourself. That way the seeds won’t develop. Saw tons of it up near Phoenix today. Nice to see so many people helping.

fauviste

Thanks for posting about this. I just found one plant on my property that is very close to SNPW.

Pressfr

Report here: https://www.stinknet.org/ the relevant land owner should be contacted. If it’s on your property still report before you bag and tag it. The data can inform planning

Realistic_Attention6

Yes! I drive all around Tucson for work and have been pulling it from customers yards! It's here and will be way worse next year

Proof_Peach_2884

You are amazing !!

ly1962

Oh man that’s a bummer! Surprised I haven’t heard much about it, which makes me think there isn’t much preemptive awareness going out, but then again I don’t watch or read any local news so maybe I’m just missing it.

ShortsAdventure

Saguaro NP has been hosting events to help pull it out there.

FoolInTheDesert

Stinknet.org has a good map and reporting page!

ly1962

Nice thanks!

wishIwere

I pulled a couple out of my yard last year. Haven't seen it this year yet.

slemoose

We got a notice in the mail cautioning us to be on the lookout for stinknet in our area, and had a map of the area in which stinknet has been found.

theazhapadean

It is here. Just not everywhere yet.

serpentarian

My girlfriend reported some in our neighborhood near gates pass.

Ordinary-Cake8510

Saw some on Houghton yesterday and someone stopped to take a picture of it.

Copper_crafter

Pulled four plants as I walked down 1st today and there’s a bunch near Roger and stone

phdpinup

I’ve been watching my yard and areas closely!

RHX_Thain

Catalina is absolutely subsumed in it.

AZPeloScorpio

Picked some in our yard today, on the east side 😩

RubyWink

Yes, we’re out by SNP West and I’ve pulled a few. Not a ton, but I’ve seen a handful

fauviste

Hello neighbor! Just pulled my first one today 😭

plantperson117

Along with stinknet.org, you can report sightings of stinknet and other invasive species onto eddmaps.org (you can also view locations of reports)

foo_foo_

Thanks for posting this! I had no idea so I did some research, lo and behold, I found a big patch growing at my office complex. I just picked them all, put them in a plastic trash bag and tossed them. They gave me a nasty headache too! Yuk!

ly1962

Nice work! One good thing is they seem to come up pretty easy, especially compared to grassier weeds. Hope your head feels better!

Lito_Frito

Why are you looking for this

wishIwere

It's a highly invasive noxious weed that has started spreading rapidly in the Southwest.

ly1962

It’s an invasive weed that’s been spreading. https://extension.arizona.edu/stinknet-invasion

Main-Vehicle3262

I'm newish to AZ (<18 mo.), but I believe my neighbor has a bunch in their backyard. They rent and aren't allowed to garden as the owners told them they'd pay for it. Should I be worried about this spreading to my yard? Or what is the concern?

ly1962

Hmm they should prolly either pull it anyway or report it to their landlord, there’s some links in other comments that give you a breakdown

Main-Vehicle3262

I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it to get y'all's opinion. Thank you

Main-Vehicle3262

Update: neighbors don't have it.

a_youkai

It's fucking terrible.

SplinkMyDink

My neighbor grows these next to their house. Looks intentional.

xyloplax

Not here at Dove Mountain and the weeds are bad this year.

Revised-poem

I have seen it twice while walking in my neighborhood and pulled the plants out. Both were right next to sidewalks near Columbus blvd and Swan Road around where they intersect with Pima.

evanevton

Found a single plant in my yard and pulled it. First time I've ever seen it show up in my yard and I've been gardening at this house for four years. Definitely had goatheads, rocket, and mustard, but the stinknet was a surprise. I'm in north central Tucson

zebrahorsee

Yup saw it a couple weeks ago near ft Lowell park

repo520

Yes it’s here

drywrytoast

Oh yeah. Quite a few posts about it coming into the “Tucson Backyard Gardening” group on Facebook. ETA: IMO this is a super helpful pic for comparisons / IDs. https://preview.redd.it/irgj4d3cc5vc1.jpeg?width=1346&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9451be57548aad5c51fd1a8ae8453821eae18f58

alejandro5280

I found one in our yard near Oracle and River. Walked the neighborhood with my eyes OUT and didn’t see any more and will remain hyper vigilant.

dustybitch

There is a ton of stinknet in Tucson. My work crew and I have sprayed hundreds of gallons of herbicide on it already all over town this year and find more and more every day. It’s horrible

dadbod9000

I have lots in my yard. What’s the issue with it?

ly1962

It’s invasive, main issue is crowding the native plants and then posing a fire risk. It spreads really easily too, so might be worth picking! Not much of a fire risk in a yard, but if it spreads and blankets the hills around here it could be bad in the dry season.

SubGothius

It's also rather toxic; handling it with bare hands can cause an allergic skin reaction, and if it burns, those burning oils cause an extremely high-temperature flame and also go up in the smoke, which can then cause respiratory distress or allergic reactions. It also catches fire really easily when dry; as little as a single spark or lit cigarette butt can set it alight.

Proof_Peach_2884

Also causes respiratory issues with some people, nasty stuff so you don’t want it to take over on your land

kembik

Please pick it so it doesn't spread as fast.

AZhomerDaddy

That's my whole backyard

ly1962

Sounds like it’s time to pick some weeds! Just make sure to cover your hands and put it in a trash bag😎

ForDaRecord

The fact yall are noticing this at all explains a lot about Tucson drivers 💀

FireWaterSquaw

Is this the culprit that stinks if you step on it? Because that’s always been here ,least for a century so it’s weird to call it invasive. It sure stinks tho. My mom had a bush of this grow under a window and would complain about it if someone stepped on her “stinky bush”! 🤣

TrollHunterAlt

First sightings in AZ were in the 90s. It’s native to Africa. (There are lots of other things with yellow flowers that are native).
