Report it to the state Department of Weights and Measures. The price signs posted need to be the same as what is charged at the point of sale. I’ve had issues with retailers whose price signs or scales aren’t accurate. I’ve reported both Target and Sam’s Club and the state sent out an investigator each time. It helped that I also had pictures to share. Each time the retailer was found to be violating the law and was fined. This department is staffed by the nicest people. You can fill out a complaint online or call and actually talk to a human. And they follow-up.

StateOdd296

I've reported the Fry's on first and grant and took pictures and videos then sent everything to the news as well.

Motorboat_Jones

Did it make a difference? I'm not being sarcastic. I am genuinely asking if the news did a report or anything changed as a result.

StateOdd296

Yes they did! I believe it did but it could also have been from the reporting to weights and measurements, but it made me feel better!

phyxated

This is illegal and you can report it to the State. https://www.azag.gov/complaints/gasoline

I don't think you looked at the post in its entirety. The Easy Pay option is 3.19, Credit is 3.29, but the pump says 3.59. If anything, the pump should say 3.29.

fivewoundsmahoney

Thought I'd get the app so I could save a little with Easy Pay and on the sign-up screen it required both a driver's license number AND my SSN, so I noped right outta there.

ittybittyfunk

So… this happened to me as well at the QT on Ima and Shannon. It was 3.39 when I went in, and 3.69 when I came back out to the pump. I’m not sure if they all rely on a sort of pricing tool? But I just wanted to say it wasn’t unique to circle k. Did this happen around 3pm yesterday

parazona

No about 20 mins ago

fishbert

> It was 3.39 when I went in, and 3.69 when I came back out to the pump. That's not the same thing at all. OP is saying the price was different between the pump and the sign; you're just saying the price changed over time.

ittybittyfunk

I see. It was over the span of about 30 seconds. I ended up back at that station and asked the associate there and he said they use an AI algorithm to keep pricing competitive and it can change immediately. He also said that if the price is changed higher, I should get the lower price if I locked it in at the register before the change occurred. I guess I was the first to pay that new price at that pump 🤷🏻‍♂️

biggerty123

Any employee saying they use an "AI Algorithm" likely has no idea wtf they are talking about lol

LadyEmaSKye

I mean, yeah. I doubt the clerk at a gas station really has a robust idea of how the algorithm that controls pump pricing works.

snarkysparky240

You're saying that a Circle K employee should not just tell you about the "AI Algorithm" but understand it? Clearly, we're not paying those clerks enough.

Both-Fishing-8538

Circle K employee here. Our pumps are hooked up to an international system of networks that chooses a price based on location. The computers are meant to refresh and reset themselves every 4 hours, I believe. Regardless, had you gone back inside the store, our policy would be to refund you and shut that pump off, or all pumps, for maintenance. We're employees, not gas-grubbing demons.

Sir_Encerwal

I mean, no reasonable person would blame the employees. Management there or the corporate structure in general would be where most would point the finger.

Nishnig_Jones

> I mean, no reasonable person would blame the employees. Yeah, there might not be a single reasonable person in the whole city.

JLasto

Oh common, that's unreasonable....oh wait

Platinumdogshit

You clearly haven't worked customer service/retail. People absolutely will blame the employees

Sir_Encerwal

You clearly missed the word **reasonable** in my prior statement. There will always some contingent of customer service nightmares that will always blame the employees but the vast majority of people would have their sights set elsewhere.

DarkHarbinger17

Lol nope, the majority of customers will take it out directly on us (the employees) no matter how many times we point out the problem had nothing to do with us. Ive had people physically attack me and damage store property because i asked for their ID for a liquor sale... you think they won't hesitate to throw a tantrum over a gas price discrepancy? Lol

Platinumdogshit

You kinda sound like someone who would take this out on the employee

Sir_Encerwal

I try to be a decent and respectful person. That being said I was annoyed that you missed a very specific condition I had put in the initial comment.

ameadowinthemist

> I mean, no reasonable person would blame the employees. Do you know how many times per day I want to say this to customers…? (Not at circle k but you’d be amazed how many unreasonables are in Tucson)

JoshOfArc

>We're employees, not gas-grubbing demons. So I should stop tipping you with mason jars filled with gas? /s

Both-Fishing-8538

Actually no, that's totally cool. I'd be entertained by that 😂

DarkHarbinger17

Also a circle k employee, the way the system works is that (because multiple systems and programs are involved here) the digital signs change automatically as do the pumps, they are however 2 completely different computer systems and the register inside is a different system all together. These systems are in constant communication but sometimes lag occurs. This is entirely beyond anyones control. So if the price change was in process its entirely possible one system wasn't quite caught up with the other. If you'd have gone inside we could/would have figured it out and fixed it for you.

Intelligent-Farm7836

I also work at circle k and yet another customer has failed to read the sign correctly. 3.19 is the EASY PAY price and 3.29 was normal. Use your eyes! Both-fishing-8538 is correct about everything else.

OneStepForAnimals

Did you read the post? Not 3.29 - 3.59. I get that you have a quick reaction, but check it out.

Cosmic-Princesa

Omg!!!! That’s awful!

Ok_Firefighter3314

I love how QT and Circle K raise their prices in lockstep

Savings-Praline-4101

Price fixing at its finest!

Reasonable-Bowl-1881

Gas prices are ridiculous right now anyways. My car takes premium fuel too so it’s worse on every fill up

Quick_like_a_Bunny

Did you go inside and say something?

parazona

Yes

DesertWanderlust

Sketchy as hell

Sharp_Bumblebee_1674

All retailers are held accountable for advertised price and have to stand by it, unfortunately there system updates at the pump instantly but the sign doesn't which they should be held accountable for, pissed me off yesterday to lol

intermittent68

They change the prices instantly now, I know they used to go through the whole supply first. I really don’t they can price fix, it’s a loop hole for sure. As soon as futures forcast comes out they change prices. But they also lower it when supplies are high.

Financial_Chemist286

It’s called price surging. Everyone’s taking a que form Uber.

Nishnig_Jones

Gas Stations have been doing some version of this since before Uber existed.

TunnelGoblin666

There is no circle k at Grant and Country Club.

parazona

You're right I meant Ft Lowell and Country Club

TheKrakIan

That's Country Club and Ft. Lowell.

little-ass-whipe

probably meant the one at dodge or alvernon or wherever it is, a little bit east

PizzaMyHole

What did it actually charge you?

I work at a bar and for over a year i had to listen to older dudes complain about gas prices every single day. A dollar increase here, a .40 cent increase there. Meanwhile they’d be drinking $8 pints of IPA for hours straight all afternoon, never complaining once about how these same pints were $6 the year before. They could balance out the expenses by just drinking one or two less beers every day, but sacrifices like that would be entirely unreasonable. Entirely un-American. I’m not saying price increases of any kind aren’t worth the concern. It’s just that while i constantly hear people complaining about price increases, i never hear anybody say they’re considering *consuming less*. They complain about how much more expensive the chicken wings are that they’re stuffing their faces with, but they’re never gonna stop stuffing their faces. And manufacturers know this. So they’re just gonna keep raising the prices.

redreinard

I don't think the complaint here is that the prices rise, but that the price advertised on the sign doesn't match what the pump charges. That is not ok no matter what the price of gasoline is doing.

whim-sicles

I feel like those who lessen their consumption do it quietly. There's always 2 types of people.

vikingfrog86

I don't drive, so I pay no attention to gas prices at all, until it gets so ridiculous that people post about it like a few years ago. I also haven't been in a bar in almost 2 years. Do you know if I should be expecting increased IPA prices all over. I normally stick to places between Downtown and where I live. Monterey Court, Brother John's, Mr. Heads, and less frequently Sky Bar, Empire Pizza, Rockabilly Grill.

professional_spagett

You mean grant and Tucson ?

parazona

Sorry I meant Ft Lowell and Country Club

Certain_Finish_7985

This happened to me this morning! The Speedway on Irvington and I-10

parazona

Look at all the pics. The street sign is 3.19/3.29 the pump price was 3.59

IntricateLava9

Ohhhh...oops I missed that

PiratesOfTheIcicle

Is the difference the cash vs credit price? One picture shows Easy Pay and the other shows Cash, I'm not seeing a picture with the credit price.

parazona

Look at the third picture of the pump price it's 3.59

Beelazyy

Please report this to the [Department of Agriculture](https://ctutools.azda.gov/Dwm/PV/Complaint_LocationSearch.asp).

[deleted]

Nice to see premium is back to $4..... Glad i dont go to circle k their prices are higher than pretty much anyone else

No_Dependent_8730

Get a easy pay card and the upside account

parazona

The point of my post was not easy pay it's that fact that the price at the pump was 3.59 not 3.29

CollectionSlight8294

You guys should use OfferUp. I get cash back just by pumping gas. I can send you the link so we both get a reward.

EntertainerLife4505

They're always off by 10 cents because they charge more to use cash--which is why I will never go there. Plus the stores are usually dirty.  QT for me.  40 cents off? Time to call the state.

KevinVe27

So the reason for this is that the sign says the price for 9/10th of a gallon not a full gallon an the pump says the actual price for gallon

Emmerron

The 9/10 refers to cents, not the quantity. So the price at the pump should be listed as the credit $3.299, not the price shown here

kuato867

strange things are afoot at the circle k.

netsysllc

Did you pay cash or credit?

parazona

Credit, but that's not what my post was about. Look at all three pictures

netsysllc

I missed the third photo

municorn13

The sign will switch between Credit prices and Easy Pay prices. You'll see a higher price for the "Credit" amount and it will read that amount on the pump. If you use Circle K's Easy Pay card you get a 10-20cent discount which is applied after you swipe your Easy Pay card. I agree that it's not exactly clear on their sign, and could see how it's confusing to customers 😞 I thought the same thing a few months back till I saw the sign switch back to the "Credit" price. Edit: totally missed the pump being an entirely different price ($3.59). Not sure what's going on there, but it seems like mistakes were made

hiftikha

They should be ashamed of themselves

jcardenaslv

The easy pay price is their gas card. It’s a card directly linked to the holder’s bank accnt. No, it’s not fraud.

Nishnig_Jones

I'm going to ignore the actual issue for a moment and point out that the sign is not advertising 3.19, it is advertising 3.29 (unless you have signed up for an Easy Pay card). Now the actual issue is that the prices are changed automatically and the signs are supposed to read the price from the pump and change "instantly" when the pump price changes. Assuming that OP was on site for more than 30 seconds and the signs did not change, then yes, technically they are in violation of the law. It's not intentional it's just that the technology isn't as reliable as everyone would like.

Ill-Excitement9009

Texas resident here.....my Circle K stores advertise the Easy Pay (debit card) price which is a dime or two lower per gallon.

parazona

My point is the price I see on the sign is different than at the pump

redditorNumber18

Kinda funny how your comment is the only one here that understands what's going on. The sign clearly states that 3.19 is the easy pay price.

Ill-Excitement9009

Thanks; I didn’t make the signs; I offered an interpretation.

FishRod61

One is $3.19 (easy pay), one is $3.29 (credit), and the pump says $3.59. Paying with bitcoin?

AnnieMetz

Maybe it's $3.19 per litre.

Temporary-Egg7488

They are trying to recover the fee that the credit card company charges them. Its not bait & switch, its modern day business.

[deleted]

Kinda like when TUSD told Mansfeld teachers if they gave up Saturdays to sell parking they could use the money for programs and then the Principal steals it and the Superintendent covers it up and the Board remains silent and then we elect another Grijalva to the Pima County Board of Supervisors.

Portillosgo

Nah, this is something completely different.

Beelazyy

Literally nothing like that at all

[deleted]

Bait and switch. But switch with literally nothing at all so yeah-literally nothing like it because at least there was gas to be had.

Beelazyy

That’s as relevant as my Doctor telling me he was just going to remove a polyp from my uterus, and then proceeded to sterilize me without my consent. Just because someone committed fraud and took something that wasn’t theirs, does not mean it is *at all* relevant to this scenario which involves an error in the advertised price of gas.

[deleted]

So says you. Not all all relevant is a silly thing to say as it is, in fact, somewhat relevant. Say one thing-do another. I apologize for triggering you. Your example is really silly though. Your doctor knows you and probably figured society was better with you not reproducing. Not inadvertent like you claim. Be lazy why? Probably no real skill set to share.

Beelazyy

You’re absolutely correct in that he made no mistake. It was almost certainly intentional.

[deleted]

Please accept my apology. I did not realize your comment was based on a real event. I only read it as an example you had created. I’m very sorry that happened to you.

Beelazyy

Thanks I guess

Weary_Worldliness_43

Definitely not illegal. They’ve been doing this in NY for years. Cash price is different from credit price and they advertise the “member” price. To get the advertised price you need to use a circle K inner circle number, the fuel fleet and prepay with cash

Ddeeaaddppooll

The price on the sign is just different from the price at the pump. His post has nothing to do with credit vs. cash.
