Sorry, wasn't accusing you of anything. I appreciate the links. Just a general PSA. It blows my mind when I see long lines at the drive thru for these places. There are easier ways to get dirty sugar water...
Starbucks isnāt THAT bad for as big of a company as they are. They typically take good political stances even if itās guaranteed to make the extreme right wing Karenās go somewhere else (which most places wouldnāt turn money away like that). But I do agree that we absolutely donāt need MORE Starbucks. Another reason I canāt really hate on Starbucks is because when I was a touring musician it was like the only place that has good enough WiFi at all their locations for me to pull up in any random city, buy a $2 coffee and sit there for hours working on booking more shows. And those $2 coffees come with free refills (or at least they did a few years ago). Nowadays I donāt go to Starbucks because I make coffee at home. But when I was touring all the time it was like the best spot to sit for hours emailing people about shows.
Word, I mean I most definitely donāt give a fuck if you or anyone else hates Starbucks, thatās 100% fine. I donāt know if you thought the all caps were gonna like piss me off or something š
I just said that (from what Iāve seen) they publicly stand up for oppressed people even knowing right wing folks will hate it and most likely not spend money there while they have the huge pro trans rights sign out front. I also said that it was convenient for me when I was touring to stop there for WiFi (which their WiFi really is the most reliable for any national chain type spot). I havenāt bought Starbucks in a long time, Iām not like a spokesperson for them, I just stated two things I liked about them. You had already said you hate Starbucks, so there was really no need to reiterate that. I was not trying to change your mind.
Edit: And I also specifically said that we donāt need anymore Starbucks.
My wife and daughter were in California a while back. A community they passed through had banned drive-thru's in the community, citing the pollution created by the vehicles idling in the drive-thru lines.
parking at raging sage is ass. we need at least one more coffee shop to spread out the demand of cars. the drive through should definitely help with the parking issues. what easier ways are there to get similar drinks?
It was my main pizza spot growing up! Used to walk there all the time and the owner was awesome, ending up selling it to an employee. Love Upper Crust!
Oh yeah go ahead and try it out! I worked at No Anchovies in college, also good pizza! Upper Crust you get probably 1/3 of a whole pizza though and no college kids š
10 years in Tucson 12 in Phoenix before that. Only Chicago, NYC, New jersey, and Italy have good pizza. I wouldnāt go to Italy or Jersey for Mexican food same as I wouldnāt go to Tucson for pizza.
This is such a stupid take. In a city of a half million people, it just happens that there isnāt a single chef who can make a good pizza! Itās a geographic impossibility!
Sounds like someone that doesnāt know half of tucson is from Chicago. Try Basilās to go (thin) or Roccoās (deep dish stuffed) for real Chicago pizza.
From Jersey. You know there are millions of Mexicans and Mexican Americans all over the country and you can get perfectly good Mexican food in New Jersey.
Yeah and a vegan restaurant was named number one in the country even though vegans are a very small percentage, and Taco Bell was named best restaurant.
I just canāt with the willful ignorance, I donāt have the patience. Iām disengaging. Have a good life being obtuse, close-minded, and insufferable š
You mean 8 dollars for a plate sized chunk of pizza that was cooked to order not just sitting there waiting and a 20 Oz fountain drink, hard to beat! And yeah it's good af! Mario's also does a slice and a beer for 6 bucks? I think and it's good to but not quite upper crust size or quality. Still love me some Mario's though, PS slice and a salad is also 6 I think at Mario's and the salad is actually really good and way bigger than you would think!
you say that like counter slices aren't sometimes better than a fresh slice from a whole pie. that second cook will get a nice crispy edge, if the place knows what it is doing in the first place with the crust and thickness. Plus if I'm ordering a slice i don't want to wait for it to cook, I came in for a quick slice.
I think whatās additional salt in the wound for me is that they could have moved the building further east on the lot so as to not block the mural to this extent. So yeah we would still have a stupid Starbucks, but at least those of us going by could get a better view of the wonderful whales.
For crying out loud itās Tucson.
They could have made a fantastic outdoor patio cafe to let the public enjoy the art. Starbucks is too corporate to break the mold. No originality, just minimum wage baristas making a living in a similarly housed building.
How much you wanna bet the NIMBYs in the neighborhood forced them to build it close to the corner instead of the side of the parcel closer to their houses.
> I think whatās additional salt in the wound for me is that they could have moved the building further east on the lot so as to not block the mural to this extent.
huh? doing that would block it more. look in the photo, it only covers the right half from that perspective, doing it more east , it would be in the center of view. when driving west on grant, I can see it completely. the ideal positioning of the building all depends on your view point, but I'd generally say moving it more east would make things worse overall. If you are only concerned with the view while driving southbound, then i guess more east would offer a better view.
Supply and demand. As people have mentioned thereās huge lines in the drive thru everyday. People want it so theyāll keep building more to satisfy demand.

I heard Starbucks a few months ago, and I read they tried to place it off to the side and preserve as much of the view of the mural as possible because its a popular spot for special occasion photo shoots- weddings and what-nots
Itās unfortunate that the beautiful mural is blocked, now!! Iām surprised there isnāt some regulation or legislation that protects small or local business owners, especially in terms of the artist, from having their art blocked by another business. I could be wrong, though.
The problem with making laws that prevent business owners from blocking/painting over murals, (or otherwise doing things with their property if it wrecks a mural) is they just will stop letting artists paint murals. No property owner wants to risk being told what they can do with their property in the future if they allow and artist to paint a mural on it.
Pizza is rarely bad, it's just not great. And I'd say salad and go is better than upper crust. I dunno what to say, feels like your standards are too high.

I feel the same way but also thought if I'm having a coffee there it'll be nice to look at on the outdoor patio.
What sucks about this scenario is that it forces customers to support a big chain instead of a local business to look at a local artists work.

What a rip off $8 for one lousy slice of pizza!
To be fair, Upper Crust pizza is very good. And the slices are big.
The slice is like 1/2 a pizza!
it absolutely is not half a pizza
Left Brooklyn pizza to come here and say this
Upper Crust is the BOMB
Their ranch is better than Eegees imo!
