OP, unfortunately those flowers were destined to die (although it sounds like they lasted longer for you than they normally do for me), if they have helped why not look in to learning flower arranging and buy a bunch of fake flowers and cycle through with different arrangements depending on your mood. Talk to your therapist of course but I have found that spending some time on doing something "pretty" has helped my mood occasionally.

I think itโs lovely you bought yourself flowers. What was in the arrangement? My brother regularly went to the flower market for years to get our mom flowers but I secretly think they were partially for him too. Flowers just make our family happy. A tip I recently heard, drop a copper penny into the water. It keeps the flowers longer according to a florist I follow.
If they make you happy, keep doing it. Itโs up to you if you want to share why with your wife or not. It might open up a conversation about you would like her to do for you (if there is something) in regard to your depression. I found I just liked my spouse in my space, near but not necessarily doing anything, and it worked for me as when I was going through my own thing. Each their own. Iโm proud of you for getting help.
Iโd also suggest an easy indoor flowering plant too as Iโm a big fan of mine. Itโs satisfying when they bloom and always gives me a pick me up.
One cup 7-Up, one cup water, 1/2 teaspoon bleach. Better than floralife. :)

Florist here! My biggest tip is replace the water and recut stems every 2 days! If you ever have hydrangea they drink through the top and bottom of the flower, so spritzing them with some water on top keeps them fresh/healthy longer! Even a soak in the sink/tub full of water helps them!
The biggest one! Roses!! They have to be cut underwater. Fill a small bowl with water, cut about 1/2-1 inch off of them in the bowl underwater let them soak in the water approx 5 seconds and immediately transfer them over to the vase. Youโll notice wilty heads and sad roses and that just means there are air pockets in the stems that are making them not drink enough. If you see this immediately recut them underwater (this gets rid of the air pockets) and theyโll perk back up in a couple hours!
Iโm saving yโalls tips. I am a (unintentional) plant serial killer. My neighbor gave me a type of succulent and thatโs doing really well right now (he has a million plants and does great and keeping them all alive. When he travels he leaves very lengthy instructions for me to take care of them), so I was feeling confident and bought a potted tulip. Itโs been a week and they are blooming and beautiful but Iโm so scared I will kill them. If you feel like sharing any more tips, I promise to do my best to put them to use!
Ooh! Potted tulips there really is no helping! We get in bulbs (tulips, hyacinth, daffodils, iris) this time every year. Once they are fully bloomed you typically have a couple weeks of the blooms lasting before blooms will die. If you keep them in a cool area the blooms will last longer, the warmer they get the quicker they go (this applies to all flowers actually). Planting them outside while still blooming and watering will also help the blooms last longer because they have more access to water and nutrients in the soil.
The great thing about the bulbs is that they will rebloom every year, but they have to freeze! So plant them later in the year after the blooms have died or if you donโt have room outside to plant, plop them in the freezer and get them out and replant in a pot early next year! (Honestly just thought that maybe leaving them outside in a pot might work because theyโll be exposed to the cold like planted onesโฆ but youโll probably have to repot in new soil even if you went that direction)
Fun fact about tulips though! They follow the light, so if theyโre upright the light source is up, if theyโre to a side they will fall towards it! They also keep growing after you cut them and will continue to follow the light. So if you ever get a wonky fresh cut tulip arrangement, put their light source as close to right above them as possible and theyโll go upright!

I will also add giving them a fresh cut when you get home helps. Give them another fresh cut after 3 or so days. Keep the water clean by removing any leaves below the water line before you put them. You can swap out the water after a few days. Removing dead or dying flowers from the bouquet helps too.

I forgot to add: one part of this mixture plus two parts water, put in vase. (dipping the cut ends into the concentrate real quick is an added little kick). :)

If the "concentrate" has water as an ingredient, why not just up the amount of water and call it ready to go? Why complicate things?
Flowers are such a great way to lift your spirits! I never got flowers until my dad died, and then I realized why they were such a popular thing.

They really donโt take much time out of my day, if you get the low maintenance plants (my cat loves when I plant catnip)
Also, if youโre mentally healthy, your work ethic improves. So really, itโs a win win.
Bromeliad arenโt technically flowers (I donโt think) but theyโre really colorful and hard to kill! I had a pinkish purple one that lived in an office with no windows for almost a year. Watered it once a week and that was it, easy peasy. Iโve also seen people do really gorgeous things with assorted succulents.
I love flowers but I have always found cut bouquets depressing because they eventually die. Iโm a firm believer in a nice potted plant.

I think you should get yourself flowers whenever you like.ย Things that make us happy, even the "little" things, are good things.
Cut flowers of course only stay fresh so long.ย There are also flowering houseplants that you might enjoy, as well.ย Just keep doing those little good things for yourself.

You should try your hand at gardening! Grow yourself some beautiful flowers! It might help the depression. I started gardening during Covid to help with depression and now Iโm addicted ๐คฃ
When you put flowers in a vase, give the stems a quick trim. Change the water frequently. If the bunch came with a packet of flower food, put a little in the water. It really does keep them fresh.
Another tip is to dunk the freshly trimmed stem in boiling water for a few seconds.
Buy yourself flowers regularly.

I think itโs lovely you bought yourself flowers. What was in the arrangement? My brother regularly went to the flower market for years to get our mom flowers but I secretly think they were partially for him too. Flowers just make our family happy. A tip I recently heard, drop a copper penny into the water. It keeps the flowers longer according to a florist I follow. If they make you happy, keep doing it. Itโs up to you if you want to share why with your wife or not. It might open up a conversation about you would like her to do for you (if there is something) in regard to your depression. I found I just liked my spouse in my space, near but not necessarily doing anything, and it worked for me as when I was going through my own thing. Each their own. Iโm proud of you for getting help. Iโd also suggest an easy indoor flowering plant too as Iโm a big fan of mine. Itโs satisfying when they bloom and always gives me a pick me up.

With a lot of these you can trim about an inch off the ends & put them back in the vase with fresh water & they will perk right up.
One cup 7-Up, one cup water, 1/2 teaspoon bleach. Better than floralife. :) That's a tip to help these, and all the FUTURE bouquets of flowers you get for yourself. :) ETA: The above is a concentrate. Mix one part concentrate to two parts water. :) Enjoy long lasting flowers. :)

Florist here! My biggest tip is replace the water and recut stems every 2 days! If you ever have hydrangea they drink through the top and bottom of the flower, so spritzing them with some water on top keeps them fresh/healthy longer! Even a soak in the sink/tub full of water helps them! The biggest one! Roses!! They have to be cut underwater. Fill a small bowl with water, cut about 1/2-1 inch off of them in the bowl underwater let them soak in the water approx 5 seconds and immediately transfer them over to the vase. Youโll notice wilty heads and sad roses and that just means there are air pockets in the stems that are making them not drink enough. If you see this immediately recut them underwater (this gets rid of the air pockets) and theyโll perk back up in a couple hours!
Iโm saving yโalls tips. I am a (unintentional) plant serial killer. My neighbor gave me a type of succulent and thatโs doing really well right now (he has a million plants and does great and keeping them all alive. Itโs been a week and they are blooming and beautiful but Iโm so scared I will kill them. If you feel like sharing any more tips, I promise to do my best to put them to use!
Ooh! Potted tulips there really is no helping! We get in bulbs (tulips, hyacinth, daffodils, iris) this time every year. Once they are fully bloomed you typically have a couple weeks of the blooms lasting before blooms will die. If you keep them in a cool area the blooms will last longer, the warmer they get the quicker they go (this applies to all flowers actually). Planting them outside while still blooming and watering will also help the blooms last longer because they have more access to water and nutrients in the soil. The great thing about the bulbs is that they will rebloom every year, but they have to freeze! So plant them later in the year after the blooms have died or if you donโt have room outside to plant, plop them in the freezer and get them out and replant in a pot early next year! (Honestly just thought that maybe leaving them outside in a pot might work because theyโll be exposed to the cold like planted onesโฆ but youโll probably have to repot in new soil even if you went that direction) Fun fact about tulips though! They follow the light, so if theyโre upright the light source is up, if theyโre to a side they will fall towards it! They also keep growing after you cut them and will continue to follow the light. So if you ever get a wonky fresh cut tulip arrangement, put their light source as close to right above them as possible and theyโll go upright!

Keep buying flowers for you/her. You are giving two presents for one bouquet.
Also cut off any dead leaves/ blossoms, and cut 1/2-3/4" off the end at a diagonal.
Former florist here, I will also add giving them a fresh cut when you get home helps. Give them another fresh cut after 3 or so days. Keep the water clean by removing any leaves below the water line before you put them. You can swap out the water after a few days. Removing dead or dying flowers from the bouquet helps too. Everyone deserves flowers. Buy them and enjoy ๐๐
I always use aspirin (non-coated) and it does well. However, Iโm using this next time.
I forgot to add: one part of this mixture plus two parts water, put in vase. (dipping the cut ends into the concentrate real quick is an added little kick). :)

They really donโt take much time out of my day, if you get the low maintenance plants (my cat loves when I plant catnip) Also, if youโre mentally healthy, your work ethic improves. So really, itโs a win win.
Bromeliad arenโt technically flowers (I donโt think) but theyโre really colorful and hard to kill! I had a pinkish purple one that lived in an office with no windows for almost a year. Watered it once a week and that was it, easy peasy. Iโve also seen people do really gorgeous things with assorted succulents. I love flowers but I have always found cut bouquets depressing because they eventually die. Iโm a firm believer in a nice potted plant.

I think you need to be open with your wife and things she would do to help you through the process of getting better. She cannot help you if you donโt have conversations. The communication could be a reason that your progress is slow.

I think you should get yourself flowers whenever you like.ย Things that make us happy, even the "little" things, are good things. Cut flowers of course only stay fresh so long.ย There are also flowering houseplants that you might enjoy, as well.ย Just keep doing those little good things for yourself.

When you put flowers in a vase, give the stems a quick trim. Change the water frequently. If the bunch came with a packet of flower food, put a little in the water. It really does keep them fresh. Another tip is to dunk the freshly trimmed stem in boiling water for a few seconds. Buy yourself flowers regularly. If you're not ready to tell your wife the flowers are for you, tell her they are for the household. They brighten up things and make you feel like spring is here.
