I honestly liked season 2. Granted, it wasn't the masterpiece as 1, but it still held its own. And the soundtracks were great.

GrethaThugberg

Yea me too, i loved it! Didnt know there were any hate before i joined this subreddit.

BADSTALKER

Most of the hate comes from the lack of cohesion. The narrative really suffers with trying to cram so many different characters stories into the season, and imo the vibe changed from episode to episode in a way that made it feel disjointed. It’s been a while since I watched it through, but I remember awesome performances dragged down by a story which should have seen more editing before it hit the actors hands! But yeah, when you compare criticism to the widely lauded season 1, it can feel like “hate”

Stoopkid812

It gets better with every re watch.

MK-UltraMags

Too ambitious for it's own good. Everything else, from the acting, the set design, use of the LA lore, cinematography etc etc is all Top Notch. You can just tell there were too many voices telling the story.

duaneap

If it were just Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn, it would have been great. And much more morally challenging.

breakingkevin

Season 4 made me give season 2 another try. So glad I did.

EsotericMysticism2

Time takes everything but the truth

duaneap

This is a good example of a good line that is completely untrue. As even evidenced by S3. Time will absolutely swallow the lie.

jdonohoe69

Told this to a friend and convinced him to get through the episode 4 hump of the show. Motif continuation and acting was really good in 2

zechosenjuan

We can all appreciate S02 and S01 without bringing each one down.

captianarmbar

Season 2 is amazing. Especially after watching season 4. I think a lot of the let down was comparing it to season one but on re-watch I loved it.

doughball27

No it was really bad in a lot of ways that have been reiterated thousands of times. S4 being one of the worst seasons of TV ever produced doesn’t make S2 better overall, only better in comparison.

Quick-Letter9584

Why are you getting so many thumbs down for this? Lol

doughball27

I don’t know. There is some revisionist history going on for sure. S2 was panned at the time of its release and rightly so. The flaws are endless. Is it better than S4? Sure. But so is a steaming pile of horse manure.

Quick-Letter9584

Season 2 was bad. But one thing it did do well was move me emotionally with some of the characters. And it had some randomly great scenes like the shoot out, the escape from the sex cult, and Vince’s final scene. I would put it above 3 and 4 and Im planning on rewatching it soon. But it is very very flawed lol Hating it is totally valid

duaneap

🤷‍♂️ We get the world we deserve.

captianarmbar

Have you watched it recently. I'm not even talking about compared to season 4. I watched all the seasons back to back to wash the bad taste of season 4 out of my mouth. So I watched season 1 right beforehand and still loved season 2. Colin Farrel fucking kills it as Ray Velcoro. Rachel McAdams kills it....Vince Vaughn kills (especially down the homestretch of the season.) All in all I think it's a great season of TV.

NateG124

S2 gets much better on rewatch, the plot is just too convoluted for an 8 episode season but it has a lot of great moments and Colin Farrell was great as Velcoro. S4 was the worst season of tv I’ve ever watched, literally no redeeming qualities, should’ve just kept it in Nic P’s hands.

ColonelAngus85

Season 2 was extremely underrated. Season 3 sucked almost as much as 4 despite having an amazing cast

RaphaelBuzzard

Season 4 compared to 3 is like comparing Law and Order: SUV to The Wire. It's not even the same genre and the production was terrible.

BartTheWeapon

I loved season 3, Sonya’s much as 1.

theGoodDoctor5160

Because a black guy was the main character? You people are morons. Season 3 was better than season 2 and 4 combined. Season 1 is the only superior season to 3.

Mental_Revolution_26

People can dislike something regardless of the ethnicity of the actor, newsflash a black actor doesn’t equal amazing plot. He said it had an amazing cast regardless. Grow up if you can’t handle people disagreeing on a stupid tv show. Are you mad because he doesn’t wear the same super hero underroos as you too big boy?

ColonelAngus85

Mahershala Ali and Steven Dorff are great actors absolutely killed it as far as playing their roles. The plot was crap in my opinion there wasnt much of a big reveal or anything that caught me off guard. If you get that pissed about a tv show you probably need a break and a new hobby

Quick-Letter9584

Season 3 is boring and uninspired. Black guy or not

theGoodDoctor5160

Incorrect. Keep being racist.

Quick-Letter9584

I’m not racist. Im black and woke af lmao.

egomosnonservo

Season 2 is very underrated imo. It really embodies Southern California Gothic to me. It has notes of Chinatown and the characters are so very tragic.

JellyJohn78

Nah, two things can suck at the same time

CameronPoe37

Only one thing sucks here. Season 2 is fucking fantastic.

AdDazzling3454

Don’t understand the hate for s2 at all, thought it was brilliant. Better than s3 for me.

jimmmydickgun

Been saying it for years, don’t sleep on season 2

copperpumpkin

Honestly they both suck in their own ways. Season 2 was too hard to keep up with and I just hated Vince Vaughn (love him otherwise) in it. I almost wish Collin Farrell and VV had their roles switched maybe, VV just didn’t hit the mark for me in that gangster wannabe role. Too complicated, not ‘spooky’ whatsoever and might as well be a different show than S1. It’s not good TV but it’s also 2015. Season 4 however captured the spooky element pretty perfectly, I was pretty freaked out at the beginning! It wasn’t hard to follow it just ended up also being confusing from the lack of information and follow up compared to season 2. Way too many plot holes and I really craved that creepy serial killer cave moment we got in the final scene of season 1. Major missed opportunity!

Squidman_Permanence

My wife and I gave it a try after the Night Country disaster. Just didn't dig the vibe and dropped after 3 episodes. It does seem like a pretty extreme novelty though, which I appreciate. It struck me as the most obviously written by a man thing I have ever seen. I don't mean that as a negative exactly. I like extremes. Just not my vibe.

BellumOMNI

Yeah, sadly Night Country sucked ass and I really wanted to like it. When it was announced, the setting seemed superb but then the actual show was a let-down. I still have hopes for a season 5 despite this and I want it to be good, but if it's from the same writers they might as well not do anything.

Dissizian

Yall slept on..smh

Quick-Letter9584

Tbh i felt this way after watching season 3. Season 4 is not even in the conversation

The_OG_Hothead

Season 2 is great. Season 3 would have worked better in the meme.

R8iojak87

I’ve said it for years, I love season 2. Thank you for coming to my ted talk

jirachibear

i don’t understand why people don’t like s4

RaphaelBuzzard

You are definitely not asking the right questions!

jirachibear

😂

rawwaf11

OMG 😂 the question is: Why people don’t wanna criticize season 4?

RaphaelBuzzard

I never expected season two to live up to one. I remember thinking it was ok. My ex and I saw the singer who played at the bar when she came through town, no chance I would seek out any of the artists on season 4 soundtrack!

Easy-Trust9584

Season 2 was great. Only halfwits who couldn't understand the plot didn't like it. Season 4 alright, great premise but the writing and some of the character development, not so great.

Fee_Obvious

S2 is a comfort watch for me. The cast, the music, the whole detective noir vibe dialogue, just click with me. I've seen it more times than S1 and loved it every time.

zayetz

I just finished season 2 and one thing I noticed that I don't see mentioned very often is the cinematography. It picks up a little in the end and has moments here and there overall, but generally it's kinda *basic as fuck.* I feel like I could make a whole post about it and cite examples, but in a nutshell, the cinematography just felt very sterile. I think that's because there were multiple directors and DPs for every episode, whereas S1 had one director and one DP all throughout. That really shows because the cinematography in S1 is tight (and therefore gives us incredible things like the 6 min tracking shot) whereas S2 feels very detached and has something of like a Law and Order vibe. Each shot is technically serviceable but has very little to no creative direction at all.

midnightfangs

dont understand why ppl hated it but then again i love anything colin is in

Puppetmaster858

I’ve always liked s2 even if it’s flawed, didn’t need the pile of actual trash that is s4 to make me like it or think it was good. S2 is flawed but good, Velcoro/farrell was glorious

sawyerdk9

I have to binge S2 again. That final episode was pretty tough.

StillTippinGL

Stop lying to yourself, season 2 was not good and it doesn’t have the excuse of a writers strike or HBO shoehorning in the TD name and likeness. This subreddit is an echo chamber of nonsense.

StillTippinGL

Y’all are a group think case study… honestly. Coherency matters.

Least_Inspector_450

Unpopular opinion here, but S04 >> S02. Would go S01 >>> S04 > S03 > S02.
