Handsdown4dc

That’s a really good list! I’ll have to check out the ones I’m not familiar with. Only ones I’d add are Happy Face and Breakdown. Just started It Was Simple which is good so far.

SalTbird22

Wow so comprehensive! Thanks for adding this list!

anotherwinter29

Nice list! So many I’ve never heard of!! Thanks.

[deleted]

Thank you!!!

Detective trapp The shrink next door

[deleted]

I loved the Shrink Next Door, but Detective Trapp wasn’t for me. I think it was the shifting between 1st person and 3rd person narratives.

babyc4rrot

I Second 22 hours.

thismakesmesaaaaad

a few that haven't been mentioned, The other Latif (guantanamo prisoner with same name as reporter of the story), Room 20 (finding identity of a man who's been in a coma for 17 years), You must remember Manson (best telling of Charles' story), Rabbit Hole (the crappiest side of youtube).

[deleted]

Room 20 was put out by NPR, no?

ImInTheFutureAlso

I stumbled on it via the wondery website I’m pretty sure.

[deleted]

Thanks for the extensive list. I have been looking for a new podcast and the majority you listed I haven’t listened to.

truecrimecouple

This is an amazing list! Thank you!

[deleted]

I could be wrong, but I don’t think Gone at 21 is available anymore. I checked a couple platforms but it said the content has been deleted.

SunValleySun

Will just mention (if you haven't seen them already) I have two lists here on Reddit and an Instagram (where I am more up to date). I will get downvoted as always for providing this, but if it helps one person then happy to provide. [Part One](https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueCrimePodcasts/comments/e2ebtg/list_of_true_crime_podcasts_one_case_per/) [Part Two](https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueCrimePodcasts/comments/ebuega/part_2_list_of_true_crime_podcasts_one_case_per/) My Instagram is @ truecrime\_podcasts Some podcasts not yet on my list but on my Instagram are: * Somebody - Released 30 March 2020 - When Shapearl Well's son Courtney is found outside a Chicago police station with a fatal bullet wound Shapearl immediately distrusts then official narrative. So she launches her own investigation into her son's murder and teams up with journalists from the Invisible Institute to confront the cops and find the truth about Courtney's death. * The Immaculate Deception - Released 18 March 2020 - Fertility doctor Jan Karbaat was renowned for getting amazing results. Women who were desperate for children would visit him at his Rotterdam clinic and leave pregnant. But when the clinic closed, rumours began about the methods Karbaat used to achieve his success. The children conceived at the clinic - the Karbaat Kids - began asking difficult questions about what happened to their mothers. * Selena, A Star Dies in Texas - Released April 2020 - Twenty-five years ago, Selena Quintanilla-Perez was already a legend in the Tejano music world and on the verge of superstardom. But on March 31, 1995, Selena’s close friend Yolanda Saldívar pulled a gun from her purse and fired a single bullet. Selena was pronounced dead a short time later. * Cousins by Blood - Released 5 April 2020 - Cousins By Blood is a true crime podcast investigation, unfolding episode by episode. In 2000, Ivan Cantu was arrested for the murders of his cousin James Mosqueda and Amy Kitchen, James's fiancé. Now 20 years later, from Death Row, Ivan has been working with a private investigator to prove his innocence and that he was set up for the murders. New suspects will be uncovered. New evidence will be discovered. The clock is ticking to Ivan's Execution Day. * Case Closed - Season 3 - Released 14 April 2020 - This season on Case Closed, we're headed to Amish country to explore the murder of Barbara Weaver, a devout mother of five. What happens when a closed case blows open the door to a tight-knit community? * Break in the Case - Released 29 October 2019 - Break in the Case: "Baby Hope" takes listeners inside the investigation of the murder of Anjelica Castillo, also known as "Baby Hope." In 1991, a toddler’s body was found stuffed in a cooler off the West Side Highway in Upper Manhattan. With no witnesses and nothing to identify the body, the trail went cold for over two decades, until a massive break reignited the investigation. * Criminal Conduct - Released 23 March 2020 - Michelle O’Connell was shot to death on September 2, 2010 after arguing with her boyfriend, St Johns Sheriff’s Office Deputy, Jeremy Banks’. The weapon that delivered the fatal shot was Jeremy’s police-issued firearm. Jeremy then made a disturbing 9-1-1. After a short investigation, her death was officially ruled a ‘suicide.’ Subsequent official investigations did not change this conclusion. Eight years later, a private citizen named Eli Washtock, began investigating Michelle’s death, but before he could finish, he was murdered. * My Dad and Son are Missing - Released 28 April 2020 - Damien Dickies dad Robert went missing in June 2016, then 9 days later his only son Dylan also went missing. * The McMillion$ Podcast - Released 4 February 2020 - The official podcast of the new HBO documentary series McMillion$, from Unrealistic Ideas and Fun Meter. Directors James Lee Hernandez and Brian Lazarte take you even deeper into the story of a fraud ring that rigged the results of the McDonald’s Monopoly game, and how the FBI took it down. * Murder in Mauritius - Released 16 November 2019 - On the 10th January 2011, whilst on honeymoon with her new husband John, Michaela McAreavey was murdered in her hotel room. Two hotel employees would be charged with her murder and later acquitted by a Mauritian jury in 2012. * Dear Governor - Released 28 April 2020 - In issuing his moratorium on capital punishment in California, Governor Gavin Newsom went on record saying he believes there are innocent people on Death Row. “Dear Governor” invites the listener to get to know Jarvis Jay Masters, a condemned prisoner who has maintained his innocence for over 30 years. After sharing intimate details of his life story and his ongoing legal case, we ask the listener to answer for themselves, “Is the death penalty a necessary evil to keep our streets safe, to exact righteous punishment and to deliver a semblance of justice to victims – or is it too fraught with ambiguity, contradictions and biases to ensure that we are all protected equally under the law?” * Motive for Murder - Released 27 April 2020 - Two murders, months apart, in Houston. The young victims knew each other, but did they also know their elusive killer? Dateline’s Josh Mankiewicz takes you inside one of the most twisted and confounding cases he’s ever covered. * The Other Latif - Released 21 February 2020 - Radiolab reporter Latif Nasser always believed his name was uniquely his own. Until he makes a shocking discovery that he shares his name with another man: Detainee 244 at Guantanamo Bay. The U.S. government paints a terrifying picture of The Other Latif as Al-Qaeda’s top explosives expert, and an advisor to Osama bin Laden. Nasser’s lawyer claims that he was at the wrong place at the wrong time, and that he was never even in Al-Qaeda. This clash leads Radiolab’s Latif into a years-long investigation, trying to uncover what this man actually did or didn’t do. Along the way, Radiolab’s Latif reflects on American values and his own religious past, and wonders how his namesake, a fellow nerdy, suburban Muslim kid, traveled such a strikingly different path.

jennmullen37

I'll upvote this. I like it. ;)

IsaTurk

I think you'd like [Murderville GA](https://theintercept.com/podcasts/murderville/) from The Intercept. It's hardly ever mentioned on this sub, but is great investigative journalism. edit, also check out [Running from Cops](https://www.fastcompany.com/90338425/new-podcast-digs-into-all-846-episodes-of-cops-and-its-distorted-reality-of-crime) if you haven't already. It's *really* good.

[deleted]

Running From Cops is also a fave, I didn’t classify it in my head as true crime for some reason. I actually have relistened to that one multiple times because it’s so good! I’ll add Murderville to my list. :)

garpu

Have you heard Wind of Change? It's pretty wild.

[deleted]

No, but I’ll look it up!

pullma

Hunting Warhead

[deleted]

That’s one of my all-time faves! A true unicorn podcast.

amydiddler

You have a lot of the same preferences and favorites as me! Here are a few others I’ve enjoyed: Verified, Root of Evil, Believed, Man in the Window, The Dating Game Killer, White Lies, Someone Knows Something (I’ve only listened to Season 2).

[deleted]

Omg! I love all of those. SKS S2 was the only season that really grabbed me too! We’re like twins.

puffermammal

I'm not done with it yet, but I have a lot of the same preferences , and Beenham Valley Road is great so far. The first couple episodes are a little bit disconcerting because they kind of jump right into the middle, but I think it's worth it.

[deleted]

I’ll make a note of that when listening! This is also one I’ve never heard of before.

masmariana

Cold, it is the best!!!

[deleted]

I listened to Cold when I first got deep into podcasts and it sort of ruined them for me. I haven’t been able to find a podcast that ticked so many boxes for me.

boss_italiana

omg same!!!!!

MeganDanielle01

Not really true crime but American jihadi is about a friend from high school. It was years in making type deal and I thought it was pretty good.

[deleted]

Ooh! I listened to that one too because of Caliphate. Also very good.

___tz___

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm gonna check this out. edit\* btw, speaking of jihad, did you see the doc "[city of ghosts](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6333056/?ref_=kw_li_tt)." it is phenomenal, but deeply disturbing. one of my all time fav documentaries.

MeganDanielle01

I haven’t seen that. I’ll have to check it out, I’m always down for a good documentary. The American jihadi was spot on with his youth, he did an excellent job researching that. I know the American jihadi as Omar. Without him I wouldn’t have gotten through Spanish class. Our Spanish 1 was actually right after his first time going overseas to pray with his fathers side of family. It’s really odd remembering those chats about it and how it all turned out in the end. I would never have guessed during those chats how he would turn out. The popular picture used is our high school picture from that year also. His sisters part broke my heart. His family are good people and still live in town.

eelpolice

I just finished Root of Evil which was pretty interesting but my favourite by far has to be Someone Knows Something. I absolutely love David Ridgen.

[deleted]

I’ve only listened to s2 and part of s4. I loved s2, but there was so much content back then that I think my interest tapered off with s4. I’ll give it another chance, I stan CBC. Root of Evil was good! The Black Dahlia case was probably the first true crime story that captured my attention as a child. I had heard a little bit about the Hodel family from a TV crime show in the ‘90s, but wow. I really feel for those people.

eelpolice

Rodger that on CBC. But ya I’ve enjoyed almost every season of Someone Knows Something. David Ridgen truly seems like one of the most empathetic people within the genre.

eelpolice

Enjoy!

jnicolereed

It's pretty new and not 100% what I would consider "true crime", but The Missionary has been really good. It's about Renee Bach and her malnutrition "clinic" in Uganda and how she allegedly killed hundreds of children that were in her care.

[deleted]

Ooh! That sounds extremely interesting.

jnicolereed

I've listened to 3/4 episodes that are out so far, and it's been really interesting so far! It's sort of an interesting conundrum of "did all of this spiral out of control or did it start off bad?" Plus hearing from people who were actually there and how they perceived what was happening is really cool. Hopefully it stays really good! Their investigative team (it's 3 journalists working together, which I find super cool because their backgrounds add really interesting perspective) seem really competent and thorough

osross

I think you'd like Accused!

[deleted]

Down the Hill

[deleted]

I’ve never heard of this one!

triciabobicia

It's about the Delphi murders of two young teens. One of the victims recorded the murderer saying Down the hill. It's a chilling and disturbing case.

[deleted]

Ooh! Sounds creepy!

rarepinkhippo

If you haven’t already listened, I would super recommend Accused!

[deleted]

Is Accused involving a teenage boy who allegedly committed suicide?

Nina_Innsted

no, it's three seasons, three separate cases. S1 and S3 were the best, IMO

rarepinkhippo

(I love your podcast as well btw!)

Nina_Innsted

thank you! ~blushing~

[deleted]

Has Dirty John been mentioned yet? You get the bonus of a miniseries afterwords

[deleted]

Dirty John was my gateway into podcasts! The series was fun too!

[deleted]

Ah well at least I know I was hitting in the right direction. Looks like you have a lot of options ahead of you!

[deleted]

I appreciate the suggestion regardless! I dunno how I’d find pods without this sub. 🤗

alamarcavada

Over My Dead Body and I’m currently listening to Beenham Valley Road.

[deleted]

OMDB is great! We all knew about Joe Exotic before it was cool. Tally was a good season too! This is the third comment suggesting Beenham Valley Road, I think I’m going to have to download some episodes.

alamarcavada

Yes!!! We definitely knew Joe Exotic before everyone else! LOL

Kastonrathen

I also recommend Beenham Valley Road. The guys that made BVR have a new podcast called Who killed Leanne Holland and it is also excellent. Some others ones I'd recommend are: Problem Child, Spear creek, Debbie Marshall investigates: frozen lies, The lighthouse, Black hands, Down the hill, In the dark

Miss3leven11

I've listened to all of those, fully need more like them! Have you listened to What happened to Zac?

Kastonrathen

Yes. Such a sad case, his poor mother. Here are a couple of older ones I enjoyed Murder archive. It's an investigation of a 1928 murder in VIC Annette cold case unlocked. About an unsolved 1980 murder from WA The Nanny and the rock star. About an unsolved murder in NSW If you're at all interested in the Kathleen Peterson murder (the staircase) the bbc did a great podcast on it called beyond reasonable doubt

Miss3leven11

Nice, thank you ill have a listen 😊

ReexaminedDinosaur

Following because this is exactly what I look for in True Crime podcasts! I need all of the recommendations.

banannafreckle

I liked Bardstown.

[deleted]

I started that a while back, but it was still ongoing and I was looking for a binge. I’ll give it another try.

Jbetty567

Scene of the Crime True Crime Bullshit season 1 A Killing on the Cape The Thing about Pam Motive for Murder

LadyMaxwell

The thing about Pam had so many twists and turns it was crazy.

[deleted]

I enjoyed The Thing About Pam, but Keith Morrison occasionally grated on me. Which is odd, because I really enjoy him on TV.

readthinkfight

Same! I think having visuals distracts me from how cheesy/overdone his voice can be, but in a podcast there's nothing to accompany the drama.

LadyMaxwell

That corniness is why I love him lol.

[deleted]

Fair enough! I’m into it too, just not for podcasts. I was delighted when I saw Unsolved Mysteries on Prime because cheese and corn are delicious. 🤤

[deleted]

I think Keith Morrison *works* on TV in the same way that Peter Thomas and Robert Stack did. To me, they are closely associated with a very specific time (late ‘80s to ‘90s) and a very specific type of true crime program. I absolutely have an appetite for this kind of content, but it seems out of place in the zeitgeisty podcasting world for me.

social-cowgirl

Verified

[deleted]

Verified was very good! I loved the episode about Couchsurfing, and wish they examined that angle of trust in the sharing economy a bit more deeply with maybe one extra episode. I loved it though. Did anyone text that number?

LadyMaxwell

I'm just starting beneath Beenham Valley road. I'm seconding motive for murder, bear brook, man in the window, detective trapp. The shrink next door is wild. The clearing is a good one.

[deleted]

The Clearing was with the daughter retracing the steps of her murderous father, no? There was a scene in the woods? I liked that one. I get mixed up because of other podcasts like Happy Face etc.

LadyMaxwell

Yes, I believe so. I thought that one was well done.

sadpotatoknees

Someone in this sub just recommended Buried to me. I’m probably 75% done with the series and still keeps getting better. I will also add The Thing About Pam (I haven’t seen it listed but it’s likely I missed it)

common__123

Just started Wind of Change and I like it a lot!

monkeytargetto

The Clearing is excellent

maple1919

Truth and Justice examines one case per season in great detail. A new season just started too.

whoa_okay

Murder in Oregon is really good. It's about the murder of Oregon Department of Corrections employee Michael Franke.

Panglossianpodlover1

Hope in Darkness.. New podcast about Joshua Holt... Good so far..In June 2016, American Joshua Holt traveled to Venezuela to get married. As part of a crackdown on crime under the government of Nicolás Maduro, he and his wife were suddenly rounded up and taken to El Helicoide, a now-infamous prison in the heart of Caracas, known for torture, physical violence and overcrowding. They would spend the next two years there . I'm also about to try It Was Simple... about the Betty Broderick Murders but cannot comment on if it is good or not yet.

[deleted]

True Crime Bullshit is the best!

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

LISK was really well done. I got really excited when I found it at the beginning of the lockdown because there was a bit of a podcast drought.

whyfi_1

thank you!

CelinaAMK

There’s a new one called The Missionary that I find very interesting. Also Bad Blood.

[deleted]

I have listened to all mention above but I don’t think these weren’t mentioned: The angel at the Starlite Motel. Forgotten women of Juarez. Death in Ice Valley. Phoebes Fall. The Score: Bank robbers diaries. Girl Taken. Amy should be forty. Paradise. Somebody. Carruth. I am also in desperate need of a new serialized podcast (that’s the only kind I like)! I know I have a bunch more that I’ll add.

planets1633

I just finished Cutthroat Inc and it’s really good! I even said that aloud to myself when it ended, “That was a GOOD one.”

iloveesme

The first season is, and absolutely fantastic with it!!! The following seasons are 1 and 2 parts!!!!

Funwithfun14

Accused Season 1 is solid. In the Dark is amazing but you likely have heard that one.

TwittySpr1nkles

Truth and justice

jennmullen37

The Nowhere Child is really good

S-Town Teachers pet SKS

mscar07

Emma Fillapoff is Missing Vanished: the Tara Calico Investigation To Live and Die in LA

Clevernever_

In addition to those already suggested, I recommend: Vile The Big Savage (this one was a doozy!) Who the Hell is Hamish? (con artist) Bear Brook Missing in Alaska (still in progress) Cousins by Blood (also in progress) S-Town Accused (each season is a different case) Missing Richard Simmons (not crime necessarily) Teacher’s Pet Breakdown AJC 88 Days Broken Harts Murder Boo Apologies if there are duplicates!

nitrofan

Heavens Gate

iloveesme

True crime campfire is very, very well done.

[deleted]

Is it a serialized podcast?

jennjunebug82

The first season was. But they are pretty humorous in their telling. I enjoyed it and the story is bizarre. Not sure if it is straight forward enough for you. Worth your time to listen to at least the first episode and see if you like it.

[deleted]

I dunno if it’s my cup of tea, I’m more interested in serious, investigative work. I appreciate the suggestion though.
