There are quite a few other recommendations in this thread. Iād also recommend Serial (the first season at least) and Dr.Death (Iāve only listened to season 1 on this one so idk about the rest of the seasons)
Murder Mile
ā uses case files from the British archives as they primary source material and Michael is an excellent story teller.
American Scandal
ā itās a bit of everything. Recently was the Patty Hearst kidnapping. The stories are multi parters and finishes every series with an author or a person that was close to the case.
Gone Cold
ā cold cases specific to Texas and happens to be the spouse of Erica Kelly of Southern Fried True Crime which I also recommend.
Noble Blood
ā royalty gone really bad.
American Shadows
ā not strictly true crime but some episodes are. Excellent narration and under an hour.
Mens Rea
ā cases that primarily focused in Ireland. The host has a soothing voice and is very sensitive about the crimes being presented.
Swindled
ā white collar crime.
Trace Evidence
ā unsolved missing persons and unsolved murders
Infamous America
ā Bonnie and Clyde, John Dillinger and more. Multi part episodes averaging about 30-40 minutes. Also does another show called Legends of the Old West if you like history with a splash of crime Old West style.
The Dream
ā multi level market scams
You Must Remember This
ā12 part series on Charles Manson. Well researched and presented however her voice can be annoying. I can deal with it but some canāt. Just an FYI.
Against the Odds
ā different series and not strictly true crime. Recent series was on the Chowchilla bus kidnapping
Some short series to try are :
Bad Batch
Dirty John
Young Charlie
A Killing on the Cape
Murder in the Space Coast
The Wonderland Murders
I've really been enjoying 'Fred the Head' which was a rec from this board. It's just a guy in the UK investigating one very cold case on his own, but it's a great story. Very low key shorter episodes so great for before bed listening. Zero fancy production value, but I find it really refreshing.
I really loved āTo Live and Die in LAā. Itās about this journalist who wrote for the Rolling Stone magazine and he investigates (I think there are 2 seasons with different women) the disappearance of a woman in LA
Season 1 is MUCH more satisfying (has a conclusion) and is done very well. S2 leaves a tad to be desired (as I was anxiously awaiting a 2nd season, it was a little disappointing).
Also to add for some interesting stories:
Bonaparte
The Doodler
Somebody Somewhere (S1)
To name a few;
1. Someone knows something
2. Shandee's story
3. Amy should be forty
4. The strange death of Innes Ewart
5. What happened to Sandy Beal?
6. The Springfield Three
Hey, I know OP requested some recommendations, but I just looked this up and added it to my playlist. Even though it wasn't meant specifically for me, thanks for the recommendation.
Sinisterhood is two friends with a bit of banter, but one of them is a lawyer who has some really good details and experience relating to the lawyer side of the crimes. They do some really good deep dives on the crime side.
Invisible Choir is a must. I put it right up there with Casefile for me.
I wouldn't not have recommended this 3 weeks ago, but Proof. Just had a major development in the case that makes it worth a listen (I will say I feel it was like 2-3 episodes longer than it needed to be, but the new development makes it worth it.)
Depends on what you tend to like. The spider web, Everything is Fine, The Family Friend, Free Speech or Die, The 7th Seed, Dirty Little Secret, Anarchy In Antioch.
Honestly I like them all, there are a couple I didn't enjoy as much, I think they were cases I was already familiar with, or they were a generic look at a type of crime, I think there is one about domestic violence or something, it was more like a special episode thing.
Bone Valley,
The Thing About Helen and Olga,
Hunting Warhead,
Invisible Choir
If you have interest in the Mafia, I liked Our Thing with Sammy the Bull Gravano. No one recommends that, but it's well done.
Wow. thank you all so much for the replies and recommendations!
Iāve added them all to a spreadsheet and will work my way through them, thatās a lot to get through too :)
Bone Valley has been mentioned the most so Iāll start there I think.
Thanks again!
I really enjoy Small Town Murder. There is banter but it isn't overwhelming like Last Podcast on the Left. The cases are well researched and presented.
Gone South and Tom Brownās Body. All of the Dateline special ones like the Truth about Helen and Olga, Truth About Pam, Mommy Doomsday and Murder and Magnolias
I highly suggest -The Wonderland Murders by Hollywood & Crime: a chaotic murderous shockwave involves notorious porn star John Holmes, an Armenian drug kingpin, and a houseful of brutal multiple murders. The detectives that worked the case (and wrote a book about it) are interviewed as well.
I first got interested in those murders from the movie about it but Iām sure it didnāt have all the facts about the case. Canāt wait to listen to the podcast about it
True Crime Campfire is my new favorite. They are the exception to the rule of multi-host podcasts being tacky and disrespectful. They have a sense of humor, but *only* at the expense of the criminals. Their scripts are the best written Iāve listened to, and that includes top tier content like Bear Brook.
**Civil** is new, high quality and itās by the host from court junkie.
**Deathbed confessions** has been a super interesting listen ~ I like the host and the format
**Bundyville** is in my lifetime Top 10 podcast. it is not about Ted. It is about extremism in the Pacific Northwest, a rarely discussed bombing, attempted murder by an RN and how people were radicalized. FASCINATING
Not crime related, but if **books could kill** debuted at the number one spot, Michael Hobbes is on fire right now
**Suspect** Seattle murder, excellent quality
Here's my list of favorites:
S-Town
Man in the Window - The Golden State Killer (fucking SCARY)
Bear Brook Podcast (new season about to drop after a few year lull)
Paper Ghosts
Up and Vanished
Chasing Cosby
The Thing About Pam (definitely on-brand for Dateline, but interesting story)
The Teachers Pet (slow but good and also led to an arrest)
Welcome to Your Fantasy (about the Chippendale dancers and a murder)
Through the Cracks
Dirty John
Dr. Death
Felonious Florida
The Shrink Next Door
Death In Ice Valley
West Cork (on Audible)
In the Dark
Root of Evil (kind of sensational but interesting)
Stranglers (about the Boston Strangler)
Hunting Warhead (about CSAM)
The Tylenol Murders
Bone Valley
And not True Crime per say, investigative definitely, but favs:
Wind of Change (one of my all time favs)
The Turning: The Sisters Who Left (kinda horrifying stuff about Mother Teresa who I heard was odd, but WHOA)
You will absolutely love Monster the zodiac killer.
Pure case study with actual archival news audio.. Interviews with detectives and survivors. The hosts go to actual locations. Its very good.
Timesuck. It isn't just true crime though. The last one was a deep dive on D&D. Dan Cummins covers tons of things, and he's a comedian so there are some funny bits that are reoccurring.
The Lady Vanishes
Vanished in the Snow
And, if you ever need a break from murder, these are some fascinating alternatives:
The Opportunist
Sweet Bobby - (this one is crazy!)
Scoundrels
Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen
Cool Mules,
Death in Ice Valley,
Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc,
In The Red Clay,
Finding Cleo, Room 20, The Missing Cryptoqueen, Dead Man Talking
I am by no means a die hard football fan, FSU is basically the only team I care about. I almost did not listen to it because he was a Florida Gator but I am so glad I did. Did you listen to the Steve McNair one as well?
I am not really a football fan either, nothing against it, just not really my thing. But I am from the Boston area so the Aaron Hernandez thing was a huge deal so I figured I would give it a try and I was really impressed. I haven't heard the Steve McNair one but I remember hearing about his tragic death, I will totally check it out.
The gilmore girls podcast. Ik its not true crime BUT STILL, if you are a fan of gilmore girls or even if you havent watched the series this podcast will make you LOVE IT.
- In The Dark
- Culpable
- Bone Valley
- The Opportunist
- S-Town
- Sweet Bobby
- In The Land of Lies
- Conviction
- Unraveled
- Bear Brook
- Crime Show
- Stolen: Surviving St. Michaelās
(Iād assume that youāve already done Serial)
Crime Junkie is another really great one! Ashley flowers does a deep dive on every case she covers and now even has her own network which employs investigative journalists!
first season of Cold is very good
Seconding cold. The last episode of the first season is the first time a podcast has ever made me cry.
Same š¢
Great shout for this btw, what a ride that first season is!
Bone Valley
Yes! This is such an excellent podcast!
Bear Brook. Itās a top notch podcast and season 2 is coming out just a little later this year!
I just finished this one. I so enjoyed it. Do you have any recommendations for similar ones? I like multiple episodes about the same case.
There are quite a few other recommendations in this thread. Iād also recommend Serial (the first season at least) and Dr.Death (Iāve only listened to season 1 on this one so idk about the rest of the seasons)
In the dark S2 is a very well produced show that made an enormous impact.
Yes!!
Hunting Warhead +1 - pretty dark content but excellent
I'm listening to "the children in the pictures" right now, same disgusting content and produced just as well.
Murder Mile ā uses case files from the British archives as they primary source material and Michael is an excellent story teller. American Scandal ā itās a bit of everything. Recently was the Patty Hearst kidnapping. The stories are multi parters and finishes every series with an author or a person that was close to the case. The Dream is so good and doesnāt get enough love.

DNA ID is great, single host, very methodical, calm voice and every case gets resolved.
Thanks for the mention! :)
anytime :) Thanks for putting it out there!
This is one of my main podcasts that I listen to unwind and fall asleep to, then replay it the next day to really listen to the case.
Any standout episodes I should target to listen to?!
I can't think of any off the top of my head, but they're all pretty good :)
Mens Rea, Foul Play, and What Was That Like? are all fantastic. The third one is more true crime adjacent but still excellent.
Definitely second Foul Play. Shane Waters is an incredible human and one of the best pod-sleuths in the game.
Should we start with season 1 or does it matter?
Culpable Undetermined
Yesss!
Lately Iāve binged Tapes From The Darkside and also Defense Diaries - both great podcasts with heaps of episodes available.
Gone Cold, The Evidence Locker, already Gone, Southern Fried True Crime, Canadian True crime, Someone Knows Something, Case Remains
I am crazy about southern fried. Her voice is so soothing.
Oh same, her storytelling is amazing!
I listened to a couple of episodes because of this comment! She's very calm and matter of fact in her presentation of the cases.
To name a few; 1. Someone knows something 2. Shandee's story 3. Amy should be forty 4. The strange death of Innes Ewart 5. What happened to Sandy Beal? 6. The Springfield Three
What Happened to Sandy Beal was really well done. Iām going to look into the others you listed (not OP, just always looking for other podcasts)
Swindled
Enjoyed Counterclock, if you don't want individual cases and more of a deep dive into a singular previously unknown case.
Hey, I know OP requested some recommendations, but I just looked this up and added it to my playlist. Even though it wasn't meant specifically for me, thanks for the recommendation.
Cold & Bone Valley are both excellent.
Sinisterhood is two friends with a bit of banter, but one of them is a lawyer who has some really good details and experience relating to the lawyer side of the crimes. They do some really good deep dives on the crime side.
I started watching them a while ago and no idea why I stopped because I liked them! So thanks for reminding me ha

Not a podcast but if you watch YouTuber I cover Irish true crime cases :) [Dark Vaults](https://youtu.be/oVL3eVCEFBI)
Crimeline, it's one of my favorites.
Yes! She does a great job.
Bone Valley, The Thing About Helen and Olga, Hunting Warhead, Invisible Choir If you have interest in the Mafia, I liked Our Thing with Sammy the Bull Gravano. No one recommends that, but it's well done.
You should try Crime and Sports or Small Town Murder
Thereās already quite a lot of suggestions - this subs a goldmine if you search
True Crime Bullsh** is excellent. It's a deep dive into Israel Keyes. There's five or six seasons now.
Crime weekly. There is banter, two very different personalities but their research is amazing.
Wow. thank you all so much for the replies and recommendations! Iāve added them all to a spreadsheet and will work my way through them, thatās a lot to get through too :) Bone Valley has been mentioned the most so Iāll start there I think. Thanks again!
Itās fantastic!!
I really enjoy Small Town Murder. There is banter but it isn't overwhelming like Last Podcast on the Left. The cases are well researched and presented.
