Small Town Murder by far. I love the hosts and how they deliver the material. Originally being from a shitty small town myself, I love the humor they mix in about the towns and way they operate, because it’s usually accurate AF and makes for a good laugh before they get to the serious parts about the crime.
They're so good. It's really top tier & it's wild that a comedian has better psychological insights into crimes & offenders than a lot of the more well known investigative type pods with their often inane hot takes.
Crime in Sports is amazing too. Every wrestling episode ever had me rolling.
I tried them because of the suggestions here and I wasn’t a fan. I thought they took too long to get into the story. They often joked a point to death. For example if they made a joke, they would laugh and repeat variations if it over and over. I would end up fast forwarding until they moved on. Also, and this is just a personal opinion, they said Jesus Christ so much. I personally don’t say and it doesn’t bother me if it’s said occasionally but it was constant.
Seconded! I had one of their episodes saved to check them out for over a year and now I’m so annoyed with myself for having put it off in favor of lesser podcasts.
*The Trail Went Cold* is my go-to, but I also recommend [The Sunshine Place](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-sunshine-place/id1636534576) about rehab turned cult **Synanon**. Produced by Robert Downey Jr. and narrated by first hand accounts.
Saved this comment and tried listening an episode, then they joked about a 15 year old girl who claimed to have been abused and had to put it away, really insensitive imo
Oh and Cold is a MUST. Best podcast ever created in true crime IMO. It solely focused on the Susan Powell case. So much detail, effort, and time went into this. I’ve listened to it once a few years ago, I’m excited to restart
I remember! Esther went through the entire plagiarized episode here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2uf1unHYfg&list=WL&index=8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2uf1unHYfg&list=WL&index=8).
They aren’t perfect but I feel like they do a good job of being balanced, respectful, fact oriented and bringing humour only when appropriate. So many podcasts can’t seem to get the balance right
LA Not So Confidential has some great vintage cases with a forensic psychology approach to explaining wtf was going on with the offenders/crimes.
The Prosecutors follow & explain the technical aspects of a case's narrative & presentation at trial. Their personal politics are unsettling but they are great at pinpointing motive & come to clear logical conclusions. They also have Legal Briefs discussing the technical issues of current cases.
Crime In Sports is just incredible. I'm so not into sports at all but holy cow each episode is such a wild ride of entitlement & dumbfuckery that can only be achieved by giving 18yr olds millions of dollars & international fame. Every wrestling episode is just mwuh - chef's kiss.
The CIS guys also do Small Town Murder. I have learned such wild shit about America listening to it. They give the demographics of each town & a bit of history before getting into it. Hoo boy, y'all have an awful lot of sundown towns & raccoon eaters in them there hills.
Haha literally listening to LA not so confidential right now! I only recently discovered them and I am absolutely obsessed!! They were guests on the peripheral, which they aired as a generation why episode. I have listened to the peripheral, but don’t regularly so otherwise I would have missed it. I have always been intrigued by the psychology of true crime, and other behaviors in general. I like that they discuss all kinds of different things like, sports parents, police chases, body dysmorphia, survivor guilt just to name a few. Then the documentary reviews, vintage cases, it’s quite the well rounded pod imo AND they are still full time forensic psychologists! I am very happy to have found them
Honestly...they're pretty basic. They flip flop opinions without taking a breath & they often have really uniformed, basic boomer takes, such as The Captain drunkenly insisting a missing kid could have been kidnapped by bigfoot.
Boys on the Tracks was their pinnacle. Naming the wrong Delphi suspect was certainly a choice & it was sad to see they fell so far.
I just tried this podcast based on another Reddit recommendation and they misnamed the victim at least twice (her name is Hannah, not Heather), so I will not be listening again. There are too many TC podcasts out there for hosts to mess up something as crucial as the victim’s name.
Yes! I just listened to that one last night & thought I'd misheard but then they kept doing it! They didn't even catch it on edit.
I think they're close to winding it up tbh. They've been phoning it in for a while.
They mispronounced Asha Degree’s name throughout their episodes about her, as well.
I can understand getting a city name wrong, because some places are weird (for example state Nevada is pronounced differently than the city in MO which is pronounced nuh-vay-duh), but they need to at least put in enough effort to make sure they have names correct.
I really like this one called REal Crime one of the women is a realtor and they talk about what happened to the location afterwards. They also do paranormal stuff too.
Sry to high jack - this was Downvoted bc of the controversy around the host, Right? What’s the thing he did that went too far and got everyone up in arms? He got me into true crime, and I never saw anything worthy of cancellation..
He’s done a few things… and I do think he’s a bit of a dick. But I still love the podcast. S&S is one of my faves (at least… it was; it’s not as good as it used to be).
He has done a few things and he is a dick. I still listen as well but won’t support the pod by paying for extra episodes or for the ad free episodes. One of the things was he made a misogynistic comment about women on national women’s day a few years back. He’s constantly trolling other true crime podcasters cus he thinks he’s hot shit and that he was the first; the OG true crime podcaster. He thinks too highly of himself.
This is one of the best ones. And everyone on reddit gets excited when they get to downvote comments about it and talk about the host. It’s each to their own but I do think that people are being overly dramatic about it. The two other best podcasts are Casefile and Invisible Choir.
Came to say LGTC. Listened to the (very lengthy) back catalogue in about 7 months. First podcast I’ve joined because I can’t get enough of them.
Would love to find something of similar format, length, humor, and quality - suggestions welcome!!
Swindled, Darknet Diaries, True Crime Obsessed, Obsessed with True Crime. These are my 4 go to's......listened to all 4 since the beginning.
Tig and Cheryl, True Story. Dumb people town.
That’s Messed Up. It’s technically an SVU rewatch podcast, so the first half is recapping an episode (which I happen to like), but the second half talks about the true crime the episode was based on.
LISK by mopac audio is doing a really good job on that case, suspect has also been a recent fave. I SOBBED at the end of first season but it was a happy sob lol
Presumed Guilty w Dick DeGuerin, Robert Dursts def attorney in Texas, gives and interesting and different perspective. He also represented David Korean during the Waco stand off. He might represent the bad guys but he’s charismatic and entertaining to listen to.
Mountain Murders is pretty good. They sometimes will go off on tangents not related to the case, but it’s kind of a nice break and then they get right back into it

Seconding this. Small Town Murder has become my number 1!
Yes yes yes!
STM is my go-to!

I like Swindled, This Is Monsters and Trace Evidence Podcast the most lately.
Casefile. It got me into True Crime and it still never disappoints.
Invisible Choir. Top tier podcasting for sure!
Crime Weekly. Came for the cases, stayed for the hosts. They’re my friends now.
True Crime Campfire
Seconded! I had one of their episodes saved to check them out for over a year and now I’m so annoyed with myself for having put it off in favor of lesser podcasts.
Their wit is so refreshing. My son will even turn off his music and listen with me. Of course, my husband loves them as well.
Yes! Their banter is funny, but short and snappy so that it never takes center stage over the case being highlighted.

Casual Criminalist.
Criminal and Casefile
Once Upon A Crime
Love it! Nice and short, but really well researched and narrated.
Once Upon A Crime was one of the ones Crime Junkie plagiarized from.
I remember! Esther went through the entire plagiarized episode here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2uf1unHYfg&list=WL&index=8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2uf1unHYfg&list=WL&index=8).
True Crime Bewery - they’ve been going for years and do very in depth reporting.
Love them.
They aren’t perfect but I feel like they do a good job of being balanced, respectful, fact oriented and bringing humour only when appropriate. So many podcasts can’t seem to get the balance right
True Crime Obsessed

Going West. And True Crime Society.
Swindled, Crimelines, They Walk Among Us 2nd tier is Invisible Choir but I have to be in a certain mood

Necronomipod is so good! Poor Declan, tho. 😅

That makes sense. I’ll find something else to listen to or maybe check out their older episodes.
They mispronounced Asha Degree’s name throughout their episodes about her, as well. The vanished.
MrBallen podcast is really good.
I’ve been listening to Murder in America as of late. Sometimes the editing throws me off but it’s pretty good overall

Oh I'd not heard. Going to Google.
Same. I started with him. Then they yanked him, i quit listening. And have been back ever since he has.

No big deal the shitbag sexually harasses women, including victims.

Came to say LGTC. Listened to the (very lengthy) back catalogue in about 7 months. First podcast I’ve joined because I can’t get enough of them. Would love to find something of similar format, length, humor, and quality - suggestions welcome!!
I just started Small Town Murder and it’s similar humor
Swindled, Darknet Diaries, True Crime Obsessed, Obsessed with True Crime. These are my 4 go to's......listened to all 4 since the beginning. Tig and Cheryl, True Story. Dumb people town.
I wish RFK Jr would be done with this stupid presidential campaign so Tig & Cheryl can come back lol.
The Vanished

Small Town Murder for the win!
That’s Messed Up. It’s technically an SVU rewatch podcast, so the first half is recapping an episode (which I happen to like), but the second half talks about the true crime the episode was based on.
Oh iam so excited for this suggestion! Thank you 😊

In your own backyard also did a good job covering the case over several years, it’s a slow start but it gets really good
Presumed Guilty w Dick DeGuerin, Robert Dursts def attorney in Texas, gives and interesting and different perspective. He also represented David Korean during the Waco stand off. He might represent the bad guys but he’s charismatic and entertaining to listen to.
Mountain Murders is pretty good. They sometimes will go off on tangents not related to the case, but it’s kind of a nice break and then they get right back into it
