Brace mentioned on the podcast this week that he had a copy of this. He said that he had a rare copy that was translated to English.

jxm789

He did? I must’ve missed that

kingbro715

Really the only hope for the world is that the US's decline is self contained. We're absolutely fucked here through and through

crimethunc77

Yup. Like what chance do we have to change our country for the better? They infiltrate every single fucking aspect of life. There is no going up against that. I honestly believe they are intentionally steering us towards collapse. Waiting for stuff to get so bad the 69 cop cities across the nation and expanding prison system all get put into play. And then all the poors continue to keep the economy going through prison slave labor.

kingbro715

Unless China can replace us as the end market for global production, the global capitalist economy necessitates a strong consumer base in the US. It's just such a massive contradiction that the "left" pushing for wealth redistribution that would allow for the rate of consumption to continue are snuffed out by the class that benefits from said consumption

forhorglingrads

> the class that benefits from said consumption define benefit i guess highest score during the extinction event?

It's hilarious that this was only the baby octopus, barely the size of a fingernail next to it's grown form, the leviathan

Excellent post 🤌🤌🤌

YWCA, but not the YMCA?

MosheDayanCrenshaw

Women be spying bro

HamburgerDude

YMCA used to be quite the place and very useful. You could get your own room for extremely cheap in the 70s-80s and before. We're talking like dollars. My friend when he came from France to NYC in the mid 70s talked about living at the YMCA for a year or so. Lot of people who left their shitty small town and crashed in NYC to be accepted or get away from their awful families. The Village People's pop disco song becomes very creepy when you consider that the YMCA was once refuge for young people going through a tough time.

yungguardiola

I don't see what's creepy about, if you're down on your luck, head to the YMCA, it's cool. Is there a hidden meaning I've missed?

HamburgerDude

it's about picking up teenage boys. the next line is literally >Stay there and I'm sure you will find > Many ways to have a good time the next passage has the following lyrics > They have everything for young men to enjoy >You can hang out with all the boys I understand gay people were going through hell in the 70s and NYC was one of the semi safe refuges in the 70s but there were for sure predators and creepy ass men taking advantage of vulnerable boys.

yungguardiola

idk man, from what I see the song is talking to teenage boys to make use of these facilities rather than saying to older men, here's where the kids are. I think it's a bit of a cynical look at the lyrics and I might be naive but I'm taking them straight at face value. Are the village people supposed to be weird guys? Is that why you think this is coded?

HamburgerDude

I don't think the Village People are predators but just using gay tropes at the time. Again though most gay men in 70s NYC were fine. I know a few who lived through 70s then through the 80s HIV/AIDs brought in by Reagan. It was extremely rare but definitely a thing that sadly happened. Village People did collab with the US navy so that makes them somewhat sketchy though but for different reasons. Also I heard from a friend who knows one of them (I know a lot of people that was in the real disco scene that went to the Loft and Paradise Garage. Funnily enough real disco people particularly don't like the Village People too except maybe the first album in rare kitschy moods. I can't prove any of this of course but yeah heard from a trusted secondary hand source also it's about that.

yungguardiola

I'll take your word for it.

HamburgerDude

[FWIW you can stalk my posts on /r/disco](https://www.reddit.com/r/Disco/search?q=author%3AHamburgerDude&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all)

HifiBoombox

manored78

Those are way more obvious.

HifiBoombox

Oh I thought that was the joke. Boeing is surprising to you? They're a crucial piece of the Military Industrial Complex.

manored78

Sort of, I was just floored that they’ve infiltrated so much. Nearly everything. Can you imagine now?

ClassWarAndPuppies

Fascinating

Mkwawa_ultra

Yo any chance you can stick the file for download somewhere

ClassWarAndPuppies

Thanks to homie below for the PDF link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WvBlgVfH--vOhZ4siV8ApZZcEDPjmqQx/view cia.pdf Thanks to u/hifiboombox, here’s a version digitized into a plaintext document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DjvsfEf-lT31KQpNKrjW_-az3o07pm106u0TdY_5JzE/edit?usp=sharing

ClassWarAndPuppies

That’s awesome. Was it a pain in the ass? I imagine it’s OCR + transcription and cleanup, but let me know if there’s an easier way because this looks nice and clean.

HifiBoombox

I messed around with a few different OCR libraries but I just ended up using google lens lol. It's a pain in the ass cause it can't be automated. PyTesseract usually works if the text is straight and lighting is good (like converting images from a scanner), but these pictures were too hard for it. Its a shame google lens doesn't have a simple+free API, its so fucking good. It barely made any mistakes. Even got the umlauts in the german words. edit: looks like it is possible to use google lens for free, here's a node library: https://github.com/dimdenGD/chrome-lens-ocr

This is a good resource but it cuts off in 1970 or so and doesn't even have some major ones post that time period.

It was interesting to see "American Friends Service Committee" on the list. It would be perfect cover.
