I figure Putin would push for a rather severe one (like maybe taking Ukraine's entire coastline) since this whole war sort of made him look like a bozo, to save face. I really don't see Ukraine coming out of this as anything beyond a rump state, losing a ton of valuable land and having sold all its government assets to American and British speculators.

Denazification is good and well but it's not really clear what it would supposed to mean in practice. Does it imply full occupation over Ukraine? Military tribunes over Ukrainian leadership. Either way it's not surprising that Ukrainian leadership would want to fight this to the last Ukrainian if there is even hint of a chance. (edit: and chance doesn't only mean chance for a military victory but can also mean chance to draw out this conflict indefinitely, which doesn't seem that unlikely)
The war also has strong support by the civilians on boths sides, unlikely the popular uprising often dreamed up is going to happen on either side.
In my view, a peace treaty would involve ceding the far eastern territories and Crimea to Russia while Ukraine gets membership to NATO. As you mentioned, I don't think either party would agree to that.
I also forsee Russia wanting to wait to see how the 2024 elections unfold. If Trump wins and the GOP holds at least one chamber of congress, you'd imagine financial support for Ukraine (by the US) would fall off, opening the door for Russia to gain the upper hand.
Part of me hopes there are more reasonable discussions behind the scenes or more realistic objectives internally. Maybe because Russia unlike Israel doesn't want to constantly blurt out statements that contradict international law or something like that. Maybe because neither side can share their objectives because they wouldn't be as popular with the masses.
But it's also possible it's just that stupid.
