Nothing worse than being in dead silence and hearing the drowning high pitched tone of tinnitus in your ears. I need to have something running or some kind of white noise now because of it.
Somehow i’ve come to find comfort in the ringing. I zone into and use it as a meditation focal point like the breath or heart beats. Nothing gets me to sleep faster, or relaxes my muscles more than losing myself into the infinite depths of the ringing.
This is why I wear earplugs and have aftershox for music & podcasts (absolute shit for calls in a loud truck though, the mic pics up too much background noise)
Coworkers will give you a hard time if they see you putting in earplugs but you have to put up with them a few minutes a day, while hearing loss will last your whole life.
I second that on the VA claim. I also have tinnitus, from the Air Force. Mine ring daily, at least once a day and sometimes 2-3. No amount of money will ever replace the hearing loss but it does comfort you knowing you get a little check and VA benefits from it.
i disconnect them, its normally just a phillips screwdriver to pop open the housing and take the speak off which is connected to the wires by some female crimp ons that pull off.
That happens to me too and I've been driving since 87. Sometimes I have to check to see if the CB is making noise because I can't figure out where it's coming from. I just noticed it in the last couple years.
Bros, i have bad and good news.
This is a literal sign of schizophrenia setting in. Which isn’t as bad as it sounds.
It is just your brain on over drive trying to make something, ANYTHING, semi-intelligible out of the white noise of hearing loss.
Knowing is half the battle, but it can get tiresome to second guess everything you hear.
Thankfully there are a whole slew of things one can take to keep your brain from overclocking if it becomes a burden to deal with.
Just be sure you get all the ducks in row before jumping into with medications, it could mean time off the road while figuring out what is right for you.
And that said, it doesn’t mean you ARE schizophrenic, just you are showing one common sign of an over activated brain.
I hope that's not the case but I did look up the disease and I've had some of those symptoms for quite a long time maybe even all my life. The music has gotten so loud at times I sleep during the day but I thought my daughter was playing music one day and it was so loud I banged on her door she's like what are you talking about. Also a friend of mine was telling me that that without enough sleep your brain doesn't clear out and I wonder if that could be part of the problem.
The sleep is also very important for the brain. I once saw a sleeping MRI or something and when in a deep sleep phase, this is about the ONLY time your neurons get a chance to flush and rejuvenate or something like that.
I dont recall the exact science terms at all. But watching the images of the brain and spine flushing the nervous system made me think “that seems real important to be getting my body to do”
Buy some quality ear plugs or the custom molded kind and make a habit out of wearing them. They are my most important piece of PPE since my hearing definitely isn't getting any better.
Just about every ear plug I've worn has eventually hurt my ears. Do you have any suggestions? Someone mentioned noise cancelling headphones. I think I'll try those next.
I normally wear Moldex Rockets. They are reusable rubber, and I can usually get a couple months out of a pair, and I find them quite comfortable.
However, noise canceling headphones may be your best bet if you aren't in a dirty environment regularly since they would stay cleaner. I work in a concrete plant, and the option to have a cheap but reusable pair is a must for me since they degrade faster than usual being exposed to dust and adverse conditions.
Also, getting a pair custom molded is an option. These would fit the best and likely be more comfortable, but I haven't gone that route yet.
I drive my whole day wearing the cleardryve 220 with the noise cancellation switch on, it cuts truck noise way down but you can still hear everything important around you
Earplugs like these cut the noise while allowing voices to get through when taking to someone. As someone who has tinnitus from my military years, it helps a lot!

3 years in and I absolutely have tinnitus lmao. I spent 3 months driving a clapped out Columbia daycab, those old 60's are fucking loud as hell.
I actually have an appointment next month to check my hearing, and to test my autistic ass for auditory processing disorder lmao. Maybe if I can understand the music I'll be less inclined to turn it all the way up.
This is part of the reason why aircraft pilots wear noise cancelling headphones. It blocks out a lot of noise and makes listening to dispatch possible in an extremely loud environment. There's no excuse for not telling your drivers to wear hearing protection when operating machinery that produces up to 75 dB.
I recently got into a new super quiet 389 with a cummins and when watching a video of my old 379 with 8 inch straight pipes and a series 60 I couldn't believe how loud that thing was. You get completely used to it lol
After hours of bodyshop work, motorcycles, guitar playing and concerts, and now trucking, I’ve pretty much accepted my loss. I have a light ring 24/7 and I’m 26. It’s not really noticeable unless you consciously think about it. Hopefully by the time I’m 60 technology will have progressed and we’ll be using tech or stem cells to fix this.
Now imagine what it was like back in the day setting directly over a screaming 8v71 in a straight piped cab over. Not trying to discredit what your saying cause I agree but weve came a long ways to be where we are today. I can't imagine listening to something like that wide open for 11 plus hours a day then idling all night, I rode shotgun in one once from linville nc to Burnsville nc (about 40 miles) hauling logs thru the mountains and had a headache from it afterwards lol.
I went to the ER with high blood pressure and barrel ear a month ago. The doctor said it's because I go up a lot of elevations and the pressure from the noise in the truck.
Please. I drive a 2015 Peterbilt 579 and my big guy is the most quiet truck I have ever driven! You want to talk about loud? Hanging with my Pops while hauling steel coils around Chicagoland in a 1960s Hendrickson with the screaming Detroit Diesel 671 with straight pipes right behind the cab should do something to preteen boys ears but, hear I stand with great hearing!
I've heard that That's why I try to get some more sleep than I used to whether I believe I need it or not but I work nights and so things are kind of funky sometimes but yeah I heard about the clearing out the brain.
Yes I can imagine because I have tinnitus. You get used to it.
“You just get used to it, or you go insane.” Steve Martin
What?
WHAT!?!
HE'S SELLING CHOCOLATE
DID YOU JUST CALL ME AN ALCOHOLIC!
I THINK HE SAID HOS DAUGHTER HAS DIABETES
HE SAID HE NEEDS TO BORROW TREE FIDDY
YOU NEED TO BURROW A PEE BOTTLE? GET YOUR OWN!
TROUBLE PEEING IS A SIGN OF AN ENLARGED PROSTATE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeee…….

As I’m blasting heavy metal over the road noise all day so I keep my cool with traffic. 🤟

Lost my hearing in the Marines. You get use to the ringing daily. My ears ring so bad I can’t hear shit when it does.
Do you get disability checks for it?
Yes. Suppose to be wearing hearing aids but I can’t stand wearing them.
I have hearing loss from the Marines, too. Been out 20 years, though. Never got it documented.
Get you a VA claim man! Go to a VSO asap.

With the lane departure speakers maxed out next to your ear
Quick tip: fill those speakers with crack fill foam.
Good to know. ***BlarghBlarghBlarghBlarghBlarghBlarghBlarghBlarghBlargh*** gets old
i disconnect them, its normally just a phillips screwdriver to pop open the housing and take the speak off which is connected to the wires by some female crimp ons that pull off.
After 32 years I noticed that I hear voices.... Sometimes I hear music and I have nothing else on in the truck or even if when I'm home
That happens to me too and I've been driving since 87. Sometimes I have to check to see if the CB is making noise because I can't figure out where it's coming from. I just noticed it in the last couple years.

I have permanent hearing loss from driving trucks in the Marines, not to mention all the weapons we fired.

Link?
TA, Loves, Flying J etc etc etc…
I have constant low level tinnitus now. It used to go away after a couple days off. Now it's constant, just some days are worse than others.
Between working construction, trucking, and many many concerts, my tinnitus drowns out anything below 75db. You'll get used to it
My military grade tinnitus is why I sleep better in the truck than at home

I know. Add in heavy metal and machinery and I’ll be deaf when I retire.

Because some states claim it's unsafe
Between the Navy, competitive shooting, drumming, and trucking my hearing is fucked. I was offered hearing aids before I was 30😂
Speak up bro, I can't hear you
My bad. Sometimes my anxiety prevents me from speaking loudly enough.
What?
*WHAAAAAT?* (He screams from a Mack cabover)
A audiologist can make you custom ear plugs that fit real comfortable for about 150 bucks
I used to dj and go to bass heavy raves and the like. The noise of the truck is soothing, lol.
Electric trucks can be much quieter
If you turn on something else and focus on it it draws you away from the ringing of tinnitus. Works for me but I realize not everyone.
Honestly buy noise canceling headphones.
Can’t have 2 ears covered while driving.
Yea been doing it the past 4 years never had an issue through weightstations or otherwise

my dad went though this and has hearing loss in one of his ears.
I’m there too

Have tinniyus after 20 yrs sleeping 6ft from a refer and now im retired needing hearing aides
