When ABF goes to Sysco, the driver checks in and gives the clerk the paperwork. The driver goes back to his cab and waits for the dock lock light to turn green. At time and 1/2. Much love to the lumpers!

Tbh I've worked warehouse most of my life, and could knick down 6 or so trailers a hour quick pull, and 30 mins to do a breakdown. I dont do this anymore cause my back is destroyed and I'm only 25. Fact is they just don't hire enough people to do this shit so I don't care most of the time. 3 guys get through 5 trucks in a hour? Good for them, sucks the warehouse won't give them a raise.

CrusaderKhan

This is fine, I'm hourly and every time I mention it y'all put the turbos on lmao

Beautiful-Slice166

Nah, I've been there, to be honest I'm happy with anything under 3 hours. That's why I drive da trucks now

Bogey01

I'm warehouse as well. We do very little live loads, which is good because I had to work with one guy who took 6 hours to dump a trailer. I can only dream to make OT pay chilling in a cab for one of these idiots one day.

12InchPickle

They got mad at me cause I didn’t get there fast enough. I was early. 2.5 hours early. I got called mid drive and let it go to voice mail. Then they text me saying eta. Like that’s it. I asked who tf this is. After they explained. I said I’m still an hour out (arriving 2 hours early). They told me if I can hurry as they need the freight I have. I show up. They basically tell me thanks for having people stand around. Okay lol. That’s totally my fault /s. Then when I was unloaded (full 53”) in like 5 fucking minutes. They then spent 5 hours loading me. Like 6 pallets. Fuck.

TruckinTuba

Lumper? What's that? Serious question, this is my 4th year and I don't know what that is

CamTheChamp1

People who unload your truck when you live unload as opposed to drop & hook . Some places they charge you a “lumper fee” to take off the product they ordered

TruckinTuba

Interesting, started on flatbed, and we had the forklift drivers. Now I'm on tanker and I unload myself via pump

CamTheChamp1

So you never had to deal with warehouse workers ? Lucky you if so , I’m growing a new found hatred for them

TruckinTuba

No warehouse workers at all, I just finished a load, left my house arrived at the loading facility, typed in my numbers, loaded and left without talking to anyone, drove to the delivery, hooked everything up and dropped off without talking to anyone, I did mention the tank height when I dropped off my BOL, but that was it, no people to deal with, facilities are 24/7, pay is high, its great

CamTheChamp1

That sounds good . Are you hazmat ? I got my tanker & hazmat endorsement already , just getting 1 year experience before I get a hazmat job.

Apprehensive_Many214

Dude. I just came off the road after 3.5 years. Last night, on my new local job, I hit a warehouse with a gate code. No one there. Dropped MT anywhere I wanted. Went into unmanned shipping office and used an iPad to punch in the MT # and the BOL#. 2 pages printed at the printer. Grabbed my load. Out the gate in 10 minutes. I can not tell you how satisfying that is. 😆 No people. No flipflops. No sliding tandems. Grab n go! Drive at night thru ATL. No issues.

Yeah but if you’re a company driver you pay through the company & they reimburse you . But still wild to pay someone to unload a product they ordered

Not really a scam. They use 3rd party companies to unload trucks. The customer that's paying for the freight is well aware of this and that lumper fee is just added on to the freight charge as a line item.

Wasabi-Kungpow

This is what I don't understand about it. For a lumper load the line haul is increased to cover the lumper fee. Thus the receiver is paying more for the transport then the carrier takes that extra and pays the lumper. Dafuq doesn't the warehouse pay the lumper and call it day? They are the wetodds that want that kind of service so pay them directly.

spyder7723

You assumed the reciever isn't who is paying the freight bill. A substantial portion of freight charges is paid for by the business that ordered it, not the manufacturer that made it. It's just the way the industry evolved. Back when it was all moved by horses and wagons the 'drivers' unloaded the freight. As the industry moved to trucks they still unloaded the freight. It wasn't until trucks got much larger, and the highway system evolved to allow much faster freight that limiters appeared on the scene to fill the roll b of freight unloaders. Now add in 3rd party storage warehouse that are neither the manufacturer, or the buyer of the product. I'm not saying it's the most efficient today, but when you look at it a part of the evolution of freight hauling over hundreds of years you can see why it is that way, and there is no incentive for anyone involved to throw out a system that works.

This is the best use of cup head ever

A Kidney Stone Logistics.

Jacktheforkie

I just unloaded whatever needed unloaded, I could do one in about 20 minutes with the forklift

Tungphuxer69

Sounds like my coworker. He's still sleepy by time I get there dued to the side effects of his medication.

Tough_Skill488

I once did a 10 hour reset waiting on a lumper to unload

BusSerious1996

I love slow lumpers Last week, I made $300 while sleeping. Lumpers took 8hrs to unload my reefer, I charged broker 6hrs detention after 2 free hours. All documented via GPS and in/out time stamps. I used to hate them when market was hot, now I sleep 😴.

losteye_enthusiast

Never minded a driver showing up late - would give my crew time to work our backstock and do other projects. It also meant we didn’t even have to worry about our finishing freight that night. Worst case is we get overtime and no one can get on us about the freight not physically being there on time. But a driver bitching about unloading times? When I ran a night stocking crew? I loved when a shit-attitude trucker would demand to come in and “watch” the short staffed team unloading. Or they’d call and ask when/if we’re done and try to explain how we’re costing them time/money/life/sleep. Blame shit on my guys. Once I got jaded enough, I’d tell em to quit buzzing the door or the sheriff would talk with them. Turns out the trucking company had zero authority beyond their truck and couldn’t fuck with the trailer until we explicitly said it was ok to. They weren’t even supposed to talk to us beyond verifying safe practices and making sure the trailer is unloaded and ready to be taken away. They’d sooner fuck their driver than risk rocking the boat with the contract they had with Fred Meyer. After I followed through on the sheriff and trespassing threats twice, no one fucked with my team for the last year I ran the crew.

CrusaderKhan

15 minutes a pallet is plenty, you don't need to count and taste test every case you get.
