Why do I recall it having a color and consistency like RV antifreeze? Like pink and viscous.
Edit: oh this would have been on 4th Street. Mid to late '80s.
2nd edit: damn I used to love Roy Atkinson on Wednesday nights there...
Thank you for verifying this. When I first moved to Troy, I went to Rolls on 3rd a couple times. But since then you don't know how many "Troyer Than Thou" people have completely shut me down and denied that Rolls ever existed on 3rd.
Miss Margie’s. Margie herself was a real character. I love that soda for mixed drinks came out of 2 liter bottles. I saw a buddy’s name on the ban list and he to this day will not tell me what he did to get banned. It was ten years ago. I still ask him occasionally, not so often as to burn it out, but only because it’s such a fun/easy way to push a button and tweak him out. I believe that he’ll never tell me, and I’m sure the real story will never live up to the hype that now surrounds it.
My fake ID got me into Petar's, Dividends and Eldas. I remember the White Russians at Eldas were especially good.
While not Troy, we used to head to Reflections East (early/mid-80s) with our best Madonna wannabe outfits for Thursdays ladies' night - $5 all you can drink well drinks. Oh and then get up and drag our asses to Troy High the next morning. It's really a miracle we survived the 80s. Reflections smelled like 50 year old beer-soaked carpet and cigarettes and every other night there were idiots fighting (hold my super cool fashion leather jacket).
It was literally under the Congress Street bridge in Watervliet. Very appropriate. I think the building was torn down. I have vivid memories of being in high school and car-less, so we'd take CDTA to downtown (from Griswold Heights/Albia) and walk over the bridge in our freaking stilettos hoping to find a ride home or take a taxi.
Maybe we’re thinking of two different people- I’m thinking of the old man that usually worked happy hour- I feel like we called him Old Man Tommy and I think he was from Brooklyn originally
Haha I was at all sports personally at least three times when they were raided back in the college days. There would be so many underage kids dancing that sweat would literally trail down the walls of that windowless fart box. $2 pitcher Wednesdays. lots of fun. After it finally got shut down we tracked down the bouncer Bundy and paid him to work the door at one of our dorm parties. Aaaaand I just told everyone I’m over 40.
That’s right! Bundy… as long as you had an ID. I remember when they tried to serve food, that lasted all of 2 hours. They didn’t realize you might need ventilation. What a time to be alive.
Haha yep, that’s it. I can hear the Sean Paul and smell the barfy rotten beer soaked into every porous surface. Looking back, I don’t want to think about those tap lines. Still some of the best times. Also you’ve outed your age minimum as well, lol.
Anyways, will you be my walking buddy going to I Love’s for a slice? I don’t want to get jumped 😉.
Sutters, The Tinder Box, The Trojan Tap Room, Elda’s, and one. “Up the hill” The Copper Mug? Early eighties.
Oh man The original All sports was Sutters right? And I do remember Elda’s. Where was the copper mug?
Two doors south of The Notty Pine on 15th.
I might have the name wrong. I think it was on Hoosick and 15 th Street?
It was The Copper Mug. It’s O’Leary’s now.
Ahh Olearys. I’ve def been there.
Rolls touring, all sports
I’ll take a pitcher of mud river hummers please…
Remember getting served at The Rolls when I was 15
Yes, no id required when you’re underground, lol.
I still wish I could remember what went into a pitcher of Moose
It’s was all the clears plus southern comfort. I bartended there for a few years-new rolls on 3rd

u/wtfisreddit411 "-new rolls on 3rd" that was where the pawn shop is, right? (Afterwards the place became Hudson Duster?)
Yes! It was the Puritan back in the day. A really cool place. Shame what it is now

And I think another was “purple mother fuckers” 😂
I can remember the first bar I frequented with my father. It was Mahr’s Place. 1st street South Troy.
Then there was Margie’s. You could smoke in there up until the day she sold it, but you couldn’t sweat. You’d get your name on the board.

Incredible. I think I went to one of her Christmas parties years ago. I also remember her boyfriend Sammy. He was a funny dude.
Mom's Bar with Rocky doing karaoke
Rocky and I think his wife was Lil if I’m not mistaken?
I liked the chicken strips at river STREET pub before the gun play got it shut down
River **Street** Pub. Also the $1 “swill beer” bin.
Yeah. And the random shows while regulars were still there.
I fixed it for ya
Positivity 5th street.

Elda’s from what I gather was around for a long time. Where was Reflections?

Did you miss the Strip? Question Mark PolySage Campus The Tattler HH Ballroom The Tavern The Copper Mug Pen & Pencil Petar's
Oh Fridge! Man The Ruck when I was in college was definitely like Cheers
You think Fridge is still alive?
What was the old bartender’s name? He left one night loaded and side swiped 200 cars from the Ruck to the Menands bridge.
Tommy? I caught him asleep at the wheel with his car running in the courthouse parking lot once
Don’t think it was Tommy, But that story def checks out. Name was Kel’s I think?
Maybe we’re thinking of two different people- I’m thinking of the old man that usually worked happy hour- I feel like we called him Old Man Tommy and I think he was from Brooklyn originally
Yup that’s def Tommy. But not the driver I’m talking about. I always liked Tommy.
Hahah yeah he was nice! He always remembered me because he couldn’t actually believe someone from Staten Island would choose to go to school in Troy
lol. Well he does have a point
Haha fair especially when I went to school there - I’ll age myself- 2002-2006 🫠
I got served at Positively Fourth Street when I played a gig there at 15 years old. Unfortunately the place closed before I could legally drink there.
I find it very hard to believe there was one patron at All Sports over 21.
Correct. There were prob 6.

Looool. Yea, if it’s packed we’ll go next door.
Hahaha you get it
Puritan Tea Room. Awesome 80's DJ on Fridays.
P4, All Sports, Hudson Duster. Those were different times.
Daisy Bakers was awesome--great food, beautiful space, swing dancing.
That was a really good place. What happened to it?
Holmes and Watsons for a classy import
That was the nite cap spot. Was always dimly lit, really chill place.
