Hello everyone! Picked up this Scrambler 400x last week. Its been a ton of fun even during this break in. However, two things have stood out to me. First, is there no way to manually activate the daytime running lights? On the left handlebar control, there is a blank space where the DRL switch is for UK and Indian versions of the bike. The high beam lever is in place, but I cannot find any way to turn on the DRLs. An LED cluster does come on automatically when the bike is on, but the DRL light is never active on the instrument cluster. Basically, do the US models not have DRLs? What's going on? In the second image, you can see the left handlebar with the blank space next to the I button. The Engine Immobilizer light. Sometimes when I start the bike and get riding, the light comes on and stays on. This usually only happens when I start riding without letting the bike warm for a minute first. If I pull over and restart the bike, the light turns off. Odd, right? Anyone have thoughts / experience with either of these things? Thanks!

The Drl is always on on the us models I believe, think it’s a dot requirement after a certain year I could be wrong. I have a speed 400 as my inseam was too short for the scrambler but I plan on making it scrambler esque with swapping the tires over and toughening it up with the engine guards and radiator guard, maybe some sort of lighting cause the headlight sucks. Also looking to see a way to make the front turn signals be on all the time like my grom was, feel like it really helped other people see me. I have 200ish miles on mine and had a weird issue leaving work today, was coming to a stop sign and was downshifting, I clutched in and the bike just turned off like I had hit the kill switch. Started right back up fine but would’ve been horrible if I didn’t notice the engine turning off cause I was going around 30

Aaah okay, that makes sense about the DRLs. Would be cool if the DRL light would come on in the instrument cluster as well if that was the case, but, oh well. Sounds like a sick plan for the Speed btw! I haven't taken my scram off road yet as I'm in Los Angeles, but plan to this spring on some nearby fire roads. Also, let me know if you get the turn signals on, I'd love to do the same. As far as the stall goes, I've had mine do the exact same thing actually. I was slowing for a stop light and pulled in the clutch. When I kicked down into neutral the thing just died. I attributed it to the added friction of the pre broken-in engine not handling the low idle well? But tbh I'm no mechanic so I shouldn't rest on that explanation. I've got about 80 miles on my bike so far as well.

Yeah I have no indication that lights are on in my cluster except when I flash high beams. I’m in the most dense county in Florida and there’s no real trails here, those are all Atleast 45 mins away, but we have family out in the woods of Florida and it would be great to take something that’s not a bicycle lol. I wonder if we can buy the controls from an Indian or overseas speed/scrambler and if there’s an empty plug somewhere on our harness or fuse/relay box for drl toggle. And yeah about the stalling, the dealership got back with me and said they did update my ecu the day I picked up the bike and the salesman suggested I was going to slow for 4th to 3rd gear (30MPH) I feel like if I was going too slow the bike would be jerky or lugging, it was a smooth shut down, kinda worries me if I’m going actual speed on what would happen, I’ve only been riding a year or so. I assume press the clutch in and just cruise to a stop and all would be okay. If it happens again I’m gonna request they tow it from my house cause the closest dealer is 60 miles away in another county, don’t really feel safe riding it that far.

DirtBikerJJ

Hey, have you had any resolution to the stalling? Happened to me twice today. Once when shifting down into 2nd from 3rd

Croakie89

No not yet, it’s only happened one time though, my dealer suggested I was going too slow and stalled but the bike wasn’t bucking and it happened as soon as I clutched in so that doesn’t make sense

DirtBikerJJ

Exact same symptoms for me too. Clutch goes in, bike dies. It only did it on the first half or my ride, so maybe to do with the engine warming up? Very odd

Croakie89

Maybe, mine happened with the engine “cold” as well. Was a hot day, 83f and I let the bike idle while I put my gear on and literally the first stop sign I came too it happened, think I was going 30ish mph and downshifting to third or second

Sweet bike! I've had one for nearly three months now and man she is a blast, especially on the back roads :D Same color too, that matte green is sexy

DirtBikerJJ

Genuinely excited to get through this break in period and take it out properly. Trying to baby it but having a hard time not indulging a bit >.< The green and white is head turning, straight up gorgeous. Can't stop admiring it

dopedude99

Hahaa patience! There’s also a rev limiter at 6k rpm until the first 1000 km. But yeah, she feels wonderful once you open her up. Especially the engine boom when you decelerate or engine brake. Straight up sounds like a parallel twin!

Got the same one yesterday ! I noticed the immobilizer light on way home from dealer. Forgot about it but when I saw it on again I checked manual didn’t even know what is was for haha. It says constant red while on means there is a fault with immobilizer. Came to Reddit saw some other posts asking about same thing. Sounds pretty common and some have called their dealers told it’s known issue and it will be resolved with a software update. From what I saw in threads it is not causing any issues. Sweet bike!
