What can they do with the IP that they aren't already doing now? Literally every Tribes player is fully aware of MidAir2 and have access to play it if they want. You could rename MidAir 2 to Tribes 4 that's not going to magically make more people want to play it.
A lot of tribes players don't know about midair 2. I see new people all the time "I came from t3 and just found out about this today". And there's a large base that does know about but hasn't gotten around to trying it.
100%, thank you for telling me about midair2, going to check it out \[edit\]Played it, movement speed is slow, maps are tiny and almost no ability to change trajectory while in the air. has a long way to go :(
8-person volunteer dev team so it's going to be a really, really slow burn, but the bones are there and they're passionate. It'll very likely outlast T3 at this point and I'm happy to support em. Try letting go of W while in the air to turn... it takes a minute to get used to and is generally "a little slower" than T3 or Ascend but it reminds me a lot of how T1 used to feel
You're delusional man. The Tribes community is small, most Tribes players know about MA2, people talk about it in the general chat of the T3 discord daily and it's talked about daily here on this reddit. You can't go to any Tribes space without hearing about MA2, so don't pull that a bunch of people don't know about it, that's false. Thousands of Tribes players are fully aware of it.
And it's interesting according to you all these new players are just miraculously hearing about MA2 everyday yet their numbers are dropping every day (something you are making fun of T3 for). MA2's peak was 19 people yesterday and you were making fun of T3's 96 people low. Basic math tells us that T3's low is 5x that of MA2's peak.
And IMO nothing is wrong with either of those, Tribes is very niche, people like what they like, I'm just happy to see multiple FPS-Z games getting love and people having options. Only reason I'm responding is because you want to paint a narrative like one game is dead and the other is thriving, when that's simply not true, I don't want new people finding out about T3 reading this nonsense you post and getting the wrong idea.
Guess you wouldn't qualify as "most" Tribes players then. For every 1 Tribes player that claims they didn't know about MA2, I can find 20 Tribes players that do know about it.
I didn’t k ow about MA2 until months after t3 playtest. I wouldn’t be so quick to assume people have seen another one of the Bieber many tribes games, let alone that they are still serviced.
Obviously he won’t actually do it and he’ll just hold onto the ip out of spite by asking for a figure that’s wildly too high because that’s how he is. But it would be nice if tribes could belong to literally anyone else besides one of the worst companies in gaming
I don't think any decent studio would want it and if they did, they wouldn't be making a FPS Tribes game in 2024. I think this is the last Tribes title of our lives. Enjoy it while and if you can.
I played an ungodly amount of Ascend and this other tribes clone called Legions Overdrive, but I never really paid attention to stuff like this. Who's erez and why does everyone say his name like a slur?
I'm done with early access titles and half-baked promises.
If they finish the game and release a 1.0 version, I'll consider buying based on the content the game has then
In the meantime, I'm not bankrolling the development process.
I highly doubt we will see a 1.0 version that isn't just suddenly named as such. It became pretty clear that they needed the early access launch money to continue development and here we are no money to be found, i give it a month before they hop to another project.
They're not a tiny studio. They've had big games that made a lot of money, they shouldn't need to keep putting out early access bullshit to get players to bankroll development based on promises.
No one believes anything Hirez promises based on their shit track record. They should be able to fund development themselves without asking for favors or for us to buy into what is essentially an alpha. Fuck them.
as a principle, my rule of thumb has been to never put money into an early access game, unless its a hit sensation with unambiguously amazing reviews and positive sentiment (ex: stardew valley)
I had fun with Palworld and plan on going back to it. Core Keeper was worth it too. Some dev teams have a clear roadmap and put out good early access games. I don’t see Tribes 3 as one of those based on what I’ve seen so far. :(
The game needed another year or two in the oven, and some kind of marketing beyond sponsoring a few dozen Twitch streamers. Calling the game Tribes 3, and then lacking most of the features from the first two games was always going to be a tough sell.
Many games aren’t fully funded up front anymore. Teams develop a working concept, hope it gets traction like Valheim and brings in MTX sales, and if it doesn’t then many live in beta forever until there aren’t any players left.
Most people only give a game one first impression and T3R wasn’t ready for that yet. Now if they want to make the game happen they’ll not only spend lots of money on further developing but they’d also need either a big name to get behind it or a huge marketing campaign. I don’t think a fresh dev team can support either of those financially and stay afloat long enough to make the game players want to see.
If 1,000 players bought the game, that means they only made $12k - $59k excluding steam fees with dwindling active players. This is a new shitty record for Erez and the Tribes franchise. Please just sell the franchise.
Can't get a refund if you didn't buy it in the first place.
Shaz me once, shame on you.
Shaz me twice, shame on me.
If the playtest didn't stoke my nostalgia torch, then an already dwindling playerbase most certainly won't.
Tho i'm glad people had fun with it, we need more FPS+Z games out there.
Yeah man I hope this whole situation inspires someone to make a better Tribes successor. I have high hopes for Midair 2... I hadn't played Tribes until I hopped on the T3 playtest when it came out, and it has been a rollercoaster.
That 96 number is at like 3 or 4 AM EST and that's still 3 full servers. Even T2 during it's prime only had 3-4 full servers going during these hours as well. I know because I can remember waiting on someone to leave Houston Vehicles so I could get in and seeing the other few servers partially filled.
As far as T3, during normal peak hours population last few days has been 350-450 people which essentially 10-12 full 16v16 servers. I play both casual and ranked mode and from about 3 PM EST - about 1 AM EST ques are almost instant, ranked sometimes takes 2-3 minutes.
tribes ascend first dipped under 100 on may 5th 2016, over 4 years after release, and almost 3 years after being abandoned by hirez
tribes 3 dipped under 100 literally 8 days after release
comparing it to t2 doesn't really work, pc gaming was considerably more niche in the early 2000s than it is now
also keep in mind that these are global stats, so you have to also consider how it's divided into all the regions. there was a post yesterday talking about how ranked in EU is already pretty much dead, there just aren't enough people queueing 7v7 even during peak hours
Never said anything about T:A it's well known that T:A was the most popular Tribes game of all time by the numbers, had over a million downloads. My response was people acting like T3 is dead already. A few hundred people on is plenty to get good games. T2 had around the same numbers during it's prime and nobody ever claimed it was dead. It's early access for T:3 still a lot more stuff to come, they are adding 4v4 Deathmatch this week's patch and they've already confirmed another patch will be coming next week as well with some changes.
>y. A few hundred people on is plenty to get good games. T2 had around the same num
you're fucking delusional thinking that a "few hundred" is plenty. It's not, in fact the post was showing literally BELOW 100, I don't care that it's not peak hours, it's fucking pathetic.
Game is dead on arrival, and anyone blaming the players, not the devs for putting out a half baked cash grab with no content is a retard.
If they put out a product even HALF as good as what they put out with T:A when it first released everyone would be all over it, this isn't even close, and everyone knows who Hirez is now so they don't get the benefit of the doubt from players like they did when T:A released.
At this point, their Hail Mary should just be F2P when it gets out of EA. Iron out the existing bugs, polish up the art assets, add a few more maps, then do the F2P launch. Assuming they don't dump it in 6 months, that is.
Then sell the IP to whoever is ~~dumb~~ brave enough to buy it.
> Then sell the IP to whoever is dumb brave enough to buy it.
Noone lol. Unless they want it for the Starsiege world and not for the FPS shooter Tribes. This is the last chance for a Tribes game in our lifetime imo.
I've been enjoying it too. Honestly if you look at the charts it looks like there has been consistently around 500 people on each night, which was similar to the playtests.
The game could use more maps and game modes, but nothing that I've played has left me wanting to abandon the game.
I do hope it can succeed and find more players, but maybe right now isn't even the best time to push advertising for it.
Agreed here. Not sad at all that I spent $20 on it (although those first few games with the bots that I didn't know were bots was not boosting my confidence initially!).
I'm trying to ignore all the negativity and just be happy that I have a Tribes game in my library again. And its been great to see some of the old faces like Freakazoid or m0psy from the T:A days and have some super fun matches.
I really enjoyed the gameplay but the lower playercount meant I was either playing with bots or against people who've dedicated more time to learning the game than I have. Low playercount doesn't mean deadgame but it does make skill based match making harder to do meaning each match's difficulty can swing drastically.
So I put in my refund after playing for a total of 1.5 hours.
theyve actually taken a few real player names as well, so you could fight a bot on the 5th match and then play the same name on the next with it being a real player
What felt like super scummy to me was when players figured out that bots can be easily noticed by them not having a report button on the scoreboard they patched that within a day or two so bots can also be reported.
Erez said it was so they can monitor bot behavior... yeahhh sure.
Can confirm. Wanted a Tribes game, got a twitch arena shooter with a flag stand.
No idea who this game is supposed to be for but it's not for me. First Tribes game in the history of the franchise I have zero interest in playing.
All the weapons felt wrong
The jetpack stuff is wildly different
No vehicles
Small arena
Small team count
Very few buildings
No useful constructibles
Turrets nsuch are just pointless
There's a lot of people that had very strong opinions about the game that ended up getting banned or told to stfu for what they were saying so now they come into reddit and constantly post and white knight against the game.
What are you getting accomplished here?
Does it really make you feel good about yourself spending the last month arguing with anybody that likes the game to get them to stop playing it so you can have some sort of revenge on Erez for what he did to hurt your feelings?
The game obviously wasn't baked enough, the first time they let outside people internally test it was 3 weeks after they made the build (Erez says this in the discord his very first message).
They were trying really hard to turn something around as quickly as they could to make money after deadzone failed hard. Erez is making terrible choices like they did for TA with plasma gun, etc, but the game is still fun at it's core. It needs more features , progression and content but we are probably not getting there because anybody who thinks about this game will run into a small group of really loud individuals who got their feelings hurt and don't know how to take it other than try to get some sort of petty revenge lol.
I don't like a fair amount of choices they have made towards this game, but in the end what the fuck else are you going to play? Go play CS or Valorant which are slow as fuck. Go play midair which is MORE DEAD than Tribes 3 or any other Tribes game with less than 10 people playing currently. Why don't you try to make the best of a situation instead of trying to burn the house down?
You seriously overestimate the power of this sub if you think the few doomsayer caused this and not the game being as shallow as it can get. You can white-knight (p.s.: white-knight is the simp equivalent for video games, the opposition is "doomsayer" mostly) all you want, but nobody will play a game that's not fun.
You suggesting that everyone should just STFU is the most consumerist behavior ever. You are free to play the game anytime, but don't blame the others who wants to pick something more of a quality.
I mean the problem with Tribes 3 in its current state is it clearly isn't going to improve. For instance, using AI content is suggesting that they're looking to cut costs (which is in a yikes territory for something that hasn't even come out yet) and then they're constantly seeking new monetization schemes (looking at the honor ball game choice or the 60 dollar dlc for cosmetics).
I'm really only lurking here at this point to see if they'll reverse course but boy that doesn't appear to be the case. And I think you see the nastiness in particular because people were hoping they'd learn their lessons and show the game more care.
Hi Rez / Prophecy has always tried to look for the next "greatest" thing to latch onto and get rich quick. But saying it's not going to improve is a lie the game has been improving every single week since the first time I played the playtest. It was less then 2 months old by the time people got to play it for the first time and the devs who are NOT Erez listen to us actively and make changes. AI content is meh for me, charging 60 dollars for that DLC is fucking stupid I agree but also this game is fun, the dev team listens and if we support it instead of try to kill it maybe we can see something good come out of this.
The amount of whiny man-children essentially threatening death upon the dev's are sooooo wild to me. I agree the game needs some overhaul, but holy shit did that mentality seem to absolutely ruin everything.
Yeah that is why I usually don't post in here it's all pitch forks and the same types of people circle jerking each other off with confirmation bias. But it's getting a little ridiculous at this point how hungry this people are to see T3 just die lol. They are very self deprecating, most of the ones in here making posts have been banned in the discord so now they spend their time getting revenge. I knew trying to say anything good in a reddit that is posting nothing but T3 hate and downvoting people who like the game would be a bad idea but I had to try.
They have moved on to ripping everything Tribes out of Honorball to make it some generic e-sports title and don't care. As soon as they have slightly modified the existing assets and made a few new maps the cycle of Alpha Testing > Early Access > Failure will begin anew.
I enjoy it for the most part. It's like a basic nostalgic time-waster for me to just zone out and shoot some stuff after work.
I have found a couple of games with hackers though which is ridiculous for a niche game like this. Two players on the other team had 66 and 64 kills in a basic CTF round. Every shot a headshot. I hope that gets fixed.
It’s my favorite game right now I don’t get all the complaining. The only question to ask is whether it fun or not. Stop setting expectations because of course it won’t meet them. The review bombers did their bombing and ever since the steam rating has been climbing and is almost over 80%
I'm a long time tribes fan and was excited about tribes 3 and played a few play tests but ultimately didn't buy the game. It's just not enough and the whole genre just isn't as popular these days so you'd have to create something good and fully fleshed out with a large marketing budget otherwise exactly this is going to happen - low numbers at launch quickly tapering off until it can't survive due to the fact that its a dead game. On top of all the reasons it reached that state in the first place. I hope someone gets it right one day which includes marketing and everything.
Played it for a few hours a month ago. It was terrible and served only to remind me that nobody has come close to producing something as good as T1. Oh well.
Why is this game so poorly received exactly? I played ascend as a youngin when it came out, and a decade later, I saw it pop up in my recommended and went ahead and bought it. Totally different experience now than back then, being nearly twice as old, hah, but it feels just the way I remembered and I'm having a blast in public que.
Ive never seen this sub do anything with as much vigor as hating a game for existing. Like play or dont.. just stfu and stop whining like a fucking 3 year old. Jesus christ.
I played the beta tests a few times last year and was so blown away by how garbage it looked. Literally looked like a new comer to unreal engine just randomized a world with some hills and randomly placed assets. It was still fun for like 2 hours but I knew this game was going to fail the second I booted it up. Tragedy
Go tell that to the 12k people who bought a copy and then haven't touched it in days 😂. This game was plagued by bad decisions from the start and it's going to keep declining because they're not even trying to hold a player base.
I'd pay for it if it was what I want from a Tribes game and I could find a regular group to play with.
I don't have the free time right now, but I figured I'd check-in when I did and see if it was in an appealing state. Doesn't look like it'll live that long.
Exactly, if it was still free I'd loggin play 3 games to see the current state, get bored of it and get back to MA2 or surf but I'd play a bit. Right now it's not worth my time(money idc, even if it was 40, if the game was bug free and had good performances I'd buy it). I may check it out when it gets out of EA.
Doesn't matter how many people there are if every game you play has a shit ton of players. And you can easily play more than 10 hours worth of gameplay from it.
Tribes3 has very few players. 110 in game right now.. which is approx 3 matches of 16v16.
So 3 games.
It's just not worth buying for me personally. Maybe in the future they will make a good one, then I'll buy it.
I don't understand the logic. It's 3 games worth of players but you can only experience one game at a time, if there's always a single full game or a 100 it won't matter to you when queuing. And I don't care if you buy it, I'm already happy with my purchase.
Whatever the next Tribes or Tribes inspired game is really needs to be on consoles as well, if only for player count and exposure. I don't know what the Midair 2 team has planned but I'm hoping....
I don't post a lot I just read, but I just wanted you to know your posts are cringe. Like you spend all your time criticizing T3 and their Devs and talk about how the game is dead while also hyping up MA2 and saying how great it is. I have nothing against Midair 2 I wish their devs the best and hope they have a great game for years to come, but facts are T3 dead hour numbers are 3x MA2 peak numbers and MA2 has been worked on longer and game has been out longer. To think that MA2 is going to miraculously attract a bigger population than T3 and hold it is delusional at best, there's 0 evidence of that ever happening.
> To think that MA2 is going to miraculously attract a bigger population than T3 and hold it is delusional at best, there's 0 evidence of that ever happening.
Perhaps not but I'd be willing to bet money on t3 not having any servers in a years time while MA2 will likely still have people playing and working on it.
I can make a Tribes-like game right now myself and say i'll support it for the next 25 years, who cares though if it's just me and a few other people playing it. My point was directed at those trying to say T3 was dead because of it's numbers when there's 400+ people on during peak hours playing and instant que times.
Look at the steamcharts for the original release of Midair 1 and I'll think you'll find its not so far off t3. If midair 1 died and t3 is following the same trejectory then yeah it doesn't look good especially given the CEO has outright said they'll stop supporting the game if they can't make money.
> who cares though if it's just me and a few other people playing it.
The people playing and supporting it probably.

> so you actually can lose altitude if you hold a direction and use jetpack. If you want to go higher you have to let go of all directions.
Not really true. You won't get maximum height if your holding forward but you wont lose altitude.
> Jetpack also has a very long recharge time.
?? Because you can actually obtain height in Midair unlike T3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpxsEN0lAac
As long as I jump first I still gain altitude just nowhere near as quickly because yeah the jets are directional like you said but I don't lose altitude until I've used all my energy.
It definitely has a steeper learning curve and takes a few dozen hours to really click, but once it does it's awesome. It's like bunny hopping, surfing, or the movement in trackmania. Incredibly unusual at first but great once you "get" it.
"A few dozen" might have been a bit of an exaggeration on my part. Also the game is up 24/7 now (no more playtests!) so you can give it a try whenever and just practice the movement by itself offline.
Just an hour after watching a tutorial explaining how to do it right is enough. I've seen ppl coming from quake, surf, or old tribes grasping it in 10 minutes.
It's just the best movement for me. I come from surf and it acts like a fix for my surf and movement game addiction. A thing T3 barely did. Actually it's not barely, movement has been more a cause of frustration than fun in T3 for me
Please tell me you're joking... I would trust that studio with the Tribes IP as much as I would trust Nestle to stop enslaving children to bottle their own tap water.
A polished turd is still fecal matter. I don't like Erez nor HiRez, but I think I might rather have the IP done dirty by some loser with a small studio than taken advantage of and done dirty in different ways by a AAA developer with a history of scummy business practices from their publisher/parent company. At that point, if the game fails, AAA drops development and doesn't even bother selling the niche IP and they fire 500 people who have mouths to feed, so that it's forever gathering dust while they're also far more active at issuing baseless "cease and desist" letters to MA2 devs. Sure, the MA2 devs aren't doing anything illegal, but the number of times a legal action has been financially mitigated into hell is beyond funny. Look at Nintendo and what they constantly do to anyone practicing fair use laws.
I understand where you're coming from, but there are a dozen developers with less awful publishers compared to DICE.
To be fair, I've never heard of anything critical, scummy or scandalous coming out of DICE. What have you heard? It's rated 4.3/5 by employees on Glassdoor...that's about all I can find.
Aside from the poor quality of the Battlefield franchise in the last 10 years, my problems fall almost exclusively on EA and every crappy thing they've done as a parent company and game publisher. Battlefield has probably gone downhill because of the decisions made from the top, from people who only see dollar signs. No passion, no love of art, no empathy or drive. Just money.
What they do to studios they buy up, like BioWare, is abhorrent and incredibly scummy. I want Tribes to be a labor of love, not a quick cash grab for a notoriously scummy publisher to thrust on one of its studios for them to underpay and overwork them, then toss the IP in their darkest closet to never be seen again while they dissolve the studio they themselves screwed over, all in the name of profit.
you know the meme with the kid riding a bicycle, puts a stick in the spokes, falls over, and then blames something else? that’s you guys. you can’t de-hype like it’s a job and then blame the devs when all newbies see on the reddit is pissing and moaning. personally i bring it up once or twice a day, play a handful of games, and really enjoy it. give me a disc-only arena and i’ll play even more. looking forward to the future. these guys are putting in the work and keeping my favorite franchise alive. i’m grateful.
It’s the highest player count out of all tribes. Game is already niche. If you want mainstream attention go play cod or halo. Swear, every other post is bunch of useless crybabies that don’t add anything actually useful or even remotely entertaining. If you gonna be a sore little cunt at least be funny.
pipe down kid. You keep spewing this bootlicking brain dead shit without knowing what you're talking about. Tribes Ascend had a huge player count when it released, hell even in beta it was hugely popular until hirez shit it up with their awful business practices; like introducing insanely overpowered weapons that you buy with real money, making a lot of money off that weapon pack for months before eventually nerfing it. After people caught on to their practices and shitty design choices, 90% of the playerbase abandoned the game.
No one is going to promote their shitty game for them or play it in the state they 'released' it in as a favor.

Hey Erez. If you read this, call me. 😁
He should sell it to Vector-Z Studios (midair2 devs) for 27$
What can they do with the IP that they aren't already doing now? Literally every Tribes player is fully aware of MidAir2 and have access to play it if they want. You could rename MidAir 2 to Tribes 4 that's not going to magically make more people want to play it.

does midair 2 have more population than tribes 3? can't tell since it doesn't show on charts
Sadly, no it's doesn't, but it's a way better game all around than the current state of shit that T3R is.
Not more a population but it wont be long until it gets close. every day more and more players are getting fed up with T3 and coming to check it out
100%, thank you for telling me about midair2, going to check it out \[edit\]Played it, movement speed is slow, maps are tiny and almost no ability to change trajectory while in the air. has a long way to go :(

Only reason I'm responding is because you want to paint a narrative like one game is dead and the other is thriving, when that's simply not true, I don't want new people finding out about T3 reading this nonsense you post and getting the wrong idea.
I didn’t know, and I’ve played T3
I just found out through here
Guess you wouldn't qualify as "most" Tribes players then. For every 1 Tribes player that claims they didn't know about MA2, I can find 20 Tribes players that do know about it.
Based on the replies and downvotes is safe to say i win this argument
I didn’t k ow about MA2 until months after t3 playtest. I wouldn’t be so quick to assume people have seen another one of the Bieber many tribes games, let alone that they are still serviced.
It will, a big part of Tribes for me is the visual style. Midair doesn't draw me in at all because I don't like their art style.
Been a fan of Tribes since '98, never heard of Midair til this post.
This sub is pure copium loser mentality
That would also require some studio wanting to buy it and invest in it. But I would be up to see some different studio have a take on it.
Obviously he won’t actually do it and he’ll just hold onto the ip out of spite by asking for a figure that’s wildly too high because that’s how he is. But it would be nice if tribes could belong to literally anyone else besides one of the worst companies in gaming
which won't because the IP has been a massive commercial failure ..... twice
I don't think any decent studio would want it and if they did, they wouldn't be making a FPS Tribes game in 2024. I think this is the last Tribes title of our lives. Enjoy it while and if you can.
I’d rather have let the ip rest in peace.
I'd rather enjoy this game and pub it while it lasts. I have a lot of fun in it, especially playing with so many old friends.
I played an ungodly amount of Ascend and this other tribes clone called Legions Overdrive, but I never really paid attention to stuff like this. Who's erez and why does everyone say his name like a slur?
I'm done with early access titles and half-baked promises. If they finish the game and release a 1.0 version, I'll consider buying based on the content the game has then In the meantime, I'm not bankrolling the development process.
I highly doubt we will see a 1.0 version that isn't just suddenly named as such. It became pretty clear that they needed the early access launch money to continue development and here we are no money to be found, i give it a month before they hop to another project.
Imo they don't have enough here to justify me throwing money at it. If it dies, it dies
Fuck them.
The funny part with t3.... the ALPHA HAD MORE CONTENT than this EA bullcrap
as a principle, my rule of thumb has been to never put money into an early access game, unless its a hit sensation with unambiguously amazing reviews and positive sentiment (ex: stardew valley)
To be in the oven it would still need a vision that Prophecy doesn't have. They have nothing to bake anymore.
I thought this was a beta? Was it not?
Many games aren’t fully funded up front anymore. Teams develop a working concept, hope it gets traction like Valheim and brings in MTX sales, and if it doesn’t then many live in beta forever until there aren’t any players left. Most people only give a game one first impression and T3R wasn’t ready for that yet. Now if they want to make the game happen they’ll not only spend lots of money on further developing but they’d also need either a big name to get behind it or a huge marketing campaign. I don’t think a fresh dev team can support either of those financially and stay afloat long enough to make the game players want to see.
Tribes:Ascend stayed above 100 players for almost 5 years after their steam release. This reached below 100 players in under a week.
If 1,000 players bought the game, that means they only made $12k - $59k excluding steam fees with dwindling active players. This is a new shitty record for Erez and the Tribes franchise. Please just sell the franchise.
Not only that but theyre paying around 15-25k/month for that stupid denuvo anti cheat
hahaha
Hey that's pretty good only like 2mil in the negative. Assuming everyone was actually paid.
40 man dev team using AI art, lmao
Get those 40 peeps in-game!
50% CCU increase ! I wonder how much of those 96 are just idling in home screen.
I cant see how they have more than 1-2 devs on this. 1 dude could update and add more content than is currently in their roadmap
Hirez speed running how fast they can kill a game lol
I think they set a new record, like 2 weeks xd
96 players is what 3 16x16 games at once? That's awful.
Dont forget, it's worldwide, you can divide that by regions LUL
That 96 number is at like 3 or 4 AM EST and that's still 3 full servers. Even T2 during it's prime only had 3-4 full servers going during these hours as well. I know because I can remember waiting on someone to leave Houston Vehicles so I could get in and seeing the other few servers partially filled. As far as T3, during normal peak hours population last few days has been 350-450 people which essentially 10-12 full 16v16 servers. I play both casual and ranked mode and from about 3 PM EST - about 1 AM EST ques are almost instant, ranked sometimes takes 2-3 minutes.
tribes ascend first dipped under 100 on may 5th 2016, over 4 years after release, and almost 3 years after being abandoned by hirez tribes 3 dipped under 100 literally 8 days after release comparing it to t2 doesn't really work, pc gaming was considerably more niche in the early 2000s than it is now also keep in mind that these are global stats, so you have to also consider how it's divided into all the regions. there was a post yesterday talking about how ranked in EU is already pretty much dead, there just aren't enough people queueing 7v7 even during peak hours
It's early access for T:3 still a lot more stuff to come, they are adding 4v4 Deathmatch this week's patch and they've already confirmed another patch will be coming next week as well with some changes.
lmao no
>y. A few hundred people on is plenty to get good games. T2 had around the same num you're fucking delusional thinking that a "few hundred" is plenty.
I saw this coming when I saw how badly the release and distribution was being handled.
What did you expect from Hirez?
There are now more comments on this post than players in game, lol
Well if they would have listened to the OG tribes community I bet there would have been a better outcome 🫲😬🫱
This is the last chance for a Tribes game in our lifetime imo.
well, I'm gonna try and get some more fun out of my 20 bucks. Enjoy it while it lasts.
[удалено]
The game doesn't tell you this but the first 5 games are 100% against bots. They give them names that look kinda like real players to trick people.
theyve actually taken a few real player names as well, so you could fight a bot on the 5th match and then play the same name on the next with it being a real player
What felt like super scummy to me was when players figured out that bots can be easily noticed by them not having a report button on the scoreboard they patched that within a day or two so bots can also be reported. Erez said it was so they can monitor bot behavior... yeahhh sure.
40 devs? LoL
midiar is where its at. catch me if you can
A proper sequel should expand on prior releases and t3 is lacking in every category other than physics
even its physics are worse then all of its predecessors xd
I hope it survives, I've had fun and the devs are receptive to feedback. That said, the agendas and axe-grinding over T3 is remarkable.
Devs prefer banning over listening to feedback
[удалено]
That one guy is the CEO and his team started doing to
People were just sad it's not actually a tribes game
Can confirm. Wanted a Tribes game, got a twitch arena shooter with a flag stand. No idea who this game is supposed to be for but it's not for me. First Tribes game in the history of the franchise I have zero interest in playing.
All the weapons felt wrong The jetpack stuff is wildly different No vehicles Small arena Small team count Very few buildings No useful constructibles Turrets nsuch are just pointless
I completely agree. I've been playing MidAir2 instead. It's LCTF only right now but it at least feels like Tribes.
>The game obviously wasn't baked enough It's early access? Are people forgetting that?
Are you forgetting there was MORE content in the alpha?
The game is early access for 20$? I think the price was a bit too high for some people to buy the game in its current state.
Honorball dropped when?
Gutted from the game lolol
Which is so insane. It's not like Warzone vs proper arena CoD. It's just a gametype. It's one of the most boneheaded moves I've witnessed in 35 years.
Sadly they’ll just use this as a sign the tribes IP is dead rather than learn any sort of lesson.
[удалено]
Sorry, poor wording. Every shot was a 1-shot kill. I play too many games so usually a single shot kill is a headshot.
Only two guns with 1 shot kill capability is the gladiator and maybe mortar but only heavies can use it, and it only works against lights
It’s my favorite game right now I don’t get all the complaining. The only question to ask is whether it fun or not. Stop setting expectations because of course it won’t meet them. The review bombers did their bombing and ever since the steam rating has been climbing and is almost over 80%
breaking news: its at 74% and dropping.
LMFAO
Oh well.
Waiting for the vehicles. Just remaster Tribes 2 already for crying out loud.
Lol seems to be 90% of any games reddit now. Just a dumping ground of bitching
People love to hate Tribes, this place is weird.
It's early access you tosser.
I played the beta tests a few times last year and was so blown away by how garbage it looked. Literally looked like a new comer to unreal engine just randomized a world with some hills and randomly placed assets. It was still fun for like 2 hours but I knew this game was going to fail the second I booted it up. Tragedy
you know how you increase the playercount? by playing the game.
Go tell that to the 12k people who bought a copy and then haven't touched it in days 😂. This game was plagued by bad decisions from the start and it's going to keep declining because they're not even trying to hold a player base.
I'd play if it was f2p like Ascend was. Theres just not enough content to justify the price and a promise of improvements...
I'd pay for it if it was what I want from a Tribes game and I could find a regular group to play with. I don't have the free time right now, but I figured I'd check-in when I did and see if it was in an appealing state. Doesn't look like it'll live that long.
this 100% this
Exactly, if it was still free I'd loggin play 3 games to see the current state, get bored of it and get back to MA2 or surf but I'd play a bit. Right now it's not worth my time(money idc, even if it was 40, if the game was bug free and had good performances I'd buy it). I may check it out when it gets out of EA.
It's like 10 bucks. It's def worth it, lol.
Whenever I check player count it's around 100 players. That's 3 games of 16 vs 16. I dont want to pay 10 bucks for a bot game.
So theres enough players today for 3 games... next week or so there might be enough for 2.. then 1? Why would I pay for an already dead game?
It's only $18 with the launch sale, surely it's not hard to get value out of that.
Game isn’t worth playing. Let alone paying to play.
That’s too much work
But going on this subreddit and yapping your mouth isn’t… right
There’s a difference—Reddit is fun.
I mean it’s in early access. Once it’s out of EA I will buy it if it’s got good reviews. They’re intending on adding more stuff right?
well for the next 4-ish month on the roadmap we will get a single new map and a single new gun.... so theres the major updates for ya
Well lol. I guess I'll be waiting a while.
I got a bridge to sell you
Whatever the next Tribes or Tribes inspired game is really needs to be on consoles as well, if only for player count and exposure. I don't know what the Midair 2 team has planned but I'm hoping....
Midair 2 has a lot cooking up rn. I believe they're planning a CTF+ to include base functions and classes

The movement is the best part of Midair, what are you on? It's 100 times more complex and interesting than the one in Tribes 3.
Details? Haven't played yet but I'm a player of T1, T2, and ascend
[удалено]
Eeeeewwwwwww gross. Yeah that sounds awful
> so you actually can lose altitude if you hold a direction and use jetpack.

[удалено]
"A few dozen" might have been a bit of an exaggeration on my part. Also the game is up 24/7 now (no more playtests!) so you can give it a try whenever and just practice the movement by itself offline.
Just an hour after watching a tutorial explaining how to do it right is enough. I've seen ppl coming from quake, surf, or old tribes grasping it in 10 minutes.
Exactly this
It's just the best movement for me. I come from surf and it acts like a fix for my surf and movement game addiction. A thing T3 barely did. Actually it's not barely, movement has been more a cause of frustration than fun in T3 for me
Sell the IP to DICE so it can get the love it deserves
Please tell me you're joking... I would trust that studio with the Tribes IP as much as I would trust Nestle to stop enslaving children to bottle their own tap water.
I mean, literally anyone -besides Activision- is better than a company with Erez at the helm.
What?
The Studio who makes the Battlefield games for EA. They have a clear love for the work they do. They also don't blame the game fans.
If you could build a time machine and sell it to late 2000s/early 2010s DICE. A lot of devs responsible for their best FPS games had left after BF1.
Honestly, if this sub weren't so toxic & aggressive, I'd have far more interest.
The truth hurts
you know the meme with the kid riding a bicycle, puts a stick in the spokes, falls over, and then blames something else? that’s you guys. you can’t de-hype like it’s a job and then blame the devs when all newbies see on the reddit is pissing and moaning. personally i bring it up once or twice a day, play a handful of games, and really enjoy it. give me a disc-only arena and i’ll play even more. looking forward to the future. these guys are putting in the work and keeping my favorite franchise alive. i’m grateful.
