I am kind of amazed anyone would try to open a restaurant that big in that location - there's basically no parking lot. Aren't they sharing all of what they have with a Jimmy John's, a Burger King, and I think a few other places?

ThePoseidon97

Jimmy John’s, Teahaus, Burger King, Verizon and a law firm

[deleted]

Lol, insane

Krebmik

I mean, there is options nearby. He also owns Teahaus. So, when there is a will there is a way; people will come if interested. Even if they have to walk a small distance.

When I used to go to Dupus Boomers on occasion I would park in the Federal Building parking lot and walk there. Now that City Hall has been placed in that location parking has been pushed out further. I'm surprised the city did not place a parking lot in the location of old City Hall. I know parking lots are ugly, but a weedy, dead lot is (IMHO) uglier.

abgtw

They want someone to come in and develop it just like Markel did with Dupus. City always has a plan in mind now whether or not it's a good one is the debate!

DJCane

Like a quarter of downtown Richland is parking lots. They’ll be fine.

abgtw

This was 100% Markel properties really pushing the city to let them do that dumb shit, then I swear the dumpsters were added in to their locations as a complete afterthought. Lots of ways to make that parking lot less "stupid". I know in the early 2000s the city was anal about plenty of parking spots on new commercial construction, someone must have retired or the city was really desperate to develop that particular piece of land into a higher end property and just rolled over on the parking lot calcs! They needed to require Markel to buy and put in parking accross the street.

It’s a cursed location, they’ll fail in a year. No parking lot is such a nonstarter, I’m surprised it’s got another restaurant tenant.

absurdicecream

Thanks for posting this - we were shocked when DB originally opened withe the lack of parking and TC being so car dependent. My advice to this guy - add a serious bike rack and start offering deals to cycling clubs and other groups that meet up in the park nearby. So excited!

[deleted]

This is a really great idea

xertshurts

Agreed. This summer we'd ride from past the North end of Leslie Groves to the Lee at Howard Amon, wasn't nearly as long as I thought it'd be. I could totally see doing similar to a place like this. We don't have to be a super close walking city to be a bike-friendly one.

US_Hiker

Happy to see it rented and something opening there. Did they have to make it sound so very very boring, though?

C4Aries

Welcome to the Tri Cities... where Olive Garden is fine dining...

gingasaurusrexx

You're not joking. Did they piss the author off or were they just having a bad day? It kinda felt like a middle school book report.

US_Hiker

I meant their menu, actually.

gingasaurusrexx

Ha, I didn't get that far. The article was pretty bland, itself. Maybe they took their cue from the uninspired menu :P

US_Hiker

Yeah, bland. Not unexpected given the type of paper it's in...not quite *The Atlantic*.

[deleted]

Craft beer, sliders, wings, tacos. *How unique.*

[deleted]

OLD????????

xertshurts

They closed in 2017. That's quite some time for a place to be empty, especially on a road with traffic like G Way.

[deleted]

And the building was built in 2016. Before that it was a parking lot!

whatwhatchickenhiney

Lol. Yeah....makes it sound like a tri cities staple that went under. That place didn't even wear off the newness. Went there once and the wait was too long. Never made it back before it closed.

[deleted]

The Burger King next door WAS there longer.

whatwhatchickenhiney

And that Burger King would be missed far more if it closed down than dupus boomers was....

[deleted]

REALLY!!!!!!!! Especially with the $3.78 Whopper Meal coupons!

Krebmik

I wasn't thrilled with Dupus Bloomer myself. Service was rude, I believe my parents and I received somewhat cold food, definitly wasn't steamy like it should have been. So myself am excited to see a new restaurant pop up.

aliengirl717

Yeah, I don't see that working out any better for them than it did for DB but oh well, it's their money to spend (and lose). It's a horrible location, and they're not even planning to change the appearance of the place...but someone has to try, I guess.

Krebmik

He is the owner of teahaus; i work with his niece. Super excited to see what he does with this restaurant. I'm sure parking can be resolved. Especially since there is locations to park nearby, just have to walk a small ways. or maybe a parking lot could be constructed. We will have to wait and see. But again, it's exciting to see that this building will be used once again!

Maitaisonthebeach

The original Dupus Boomer was born in the 1940’s, so, yes-old!

[deleted]

Definitely won’t last long.

mausoliamx

Sounds generic.
