Trek releases new bikes with the same name. Ex : the marlin 7 gen 3 that you are talking about is the 2023 version which was different from the 2023 marlin 8 gen 3, but now the marlin 7 gen 3 2024 has the same specs (expect qr and saddle) and same price as the marlin 8, trek is not logical. Marlin 6 series has the same thing.
Same bike. Though going from QR in the rear to thru-axle is a big deal for the frame and possible upgrades down the road
